ASTROGENIC HALLUCINAUTING experiments with tools of chaos

Published on May 16, 2017 thenoiztemple

"ASTROGENIC HALLUCINAUTING - experiments with tools of chaos - Landscape STEREO FIELD - Rob Hordijk BLIPPOO BOX - Lorre-Mill DOUBLE KNOT and an Eventide SPACE reverb - for more noiz:

an adventure with tools of chaos...

STEREO FIELD is one instrument with three uses. It is simultaneously a stereo/quad modular touch plate synthesizer, a stereo/quad audio processor and a pressure sensitive chaotic CV controller.

The Blippoo is a unconventional analogue synthesizer with a unique implementation of twin digital shift registers known as Runglers made by Rob Hordijk from The Hague in Holland.

Double Knot is an all analog synthesizer which is both sequencer and voice. It can be thought of as something of an indeterministic "groovebox". A stereo instrument with two identical voices that can give different rhythms, melodies or cross timbral slaps. The idea of this instrument is to invite reconciliation of linear and nonlinear systems, and to encourage the building of multiple-feedback synthesis architectures."

It's 40 Years Old!"

A few issues with this one:

"1. The F# and A# keys in the top octave of the keyboard are intermittent (the ones with dimes on them in the pics). They work, but you have to sometimes depress them a few times before they come back to life. This is a fairly common problem with any keyboard that uses a Panasonic keyboard (Memorymoog, OB8, Polysix, Matrix-12 etc...). For me it hasn't been an issue because I use my OB8 like a sound module via MIDI, using a master keyboard controller. But if you want to use the keyboard, these keys need their contacts cleaned.

2. There are four buttons on the front panel called 'group' buttons: A, B, C, & D. These let you select which bank of programs you want to play. The C and D buttons also need cleaning. They do work, but like the keys mentioned above, you sometimes have to tap on them a few times to get them to light up and work. But they do light up and work. One of the pics shows all four lit so you can see for yourself.

3. The number 5 program button is also a little fussy, but it definitely works. It has the same personality disorder as the others mentioned above. It needs to be cleaned.

(And by the way, There is a guy on YouTube that goes by the name of "sounddoctorin" who sells replacement contact strips for the OB8 keys)."

Planar Workout

Published on May 16, 2017 intellijel

Update: looks like this one got pulled. I will let you know if it goes back up.

"Here's a more noisy patch controlled by the Planar. In this case it's acting both as a mixer and a CV offset. It is mixing the direct outputs of the oscillator outputs with signals mangled by µFold and µMod. Planar is using the X and Y outputs to speed up Quadra's attack and release values, and open up modulation signals through Quadra VCA. Of course there's also a touch of reverb from Springray."

Kosmic Krell

Published on May 16, 2017 intellijel

"In this video we have created a short piece inspired by the Krell patch, a type of self generating music that takes its name from the music of the alien race featured in Forbidden Planet. The Krell patch uses random sources to generate melodies and gates, with higher notes using faster envelopes creating quick trills and slower bass swells.

In this case we are using a µScale to quantize the random notes into a Harmonic Minor scale. Delay and pitch shifting is being applied by Rainmaker, sidechain compression of every third step by Jellysquasher, and reverb from Springray.

You can view a step by step demonstration of creating a Krell patch on a Buchla system here:" [posted here]

"'A live performance of a semi- synthwave kind of track by Robots Against Children. Recorded at Cafe Coco, Nashville TN. February 11th, 2017'

Hello friends,

Here is some footage and audio from a gig I did this winter here in Nashville. I set up cameras in order to capture the entire 35+ minute performance but of course, in classic Matt Greer fashion, I forgot to start recording the audio until half way through the second to last song. DOH! Oh well.

So, at any rate, this is what was left over. I hope you enjoy it.

gear used:
- Novation Circuit
- Elektron Monomachine
- Novation Bass Station 2
- TC Electronics Flashback x4 Delay
- TC Electronics Hall of Fame Reverb
- Samson MDR 1688 Mixer
- GoPro Cameras
- Tascam DR-05 to record audio

Shout out to my buddies Moo & Steve for taking the video."

CYMRU Beats 17 Modular Synth Meet Announced - Saturday June 17th, Cardiff

Full details:

"Cymru Beats, the annual Welsh meeting for modular synthesiser enthusiasts, marks its third year in 2017.

We’re heading back to Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff again for a day of electronic music and sound, but this year with an even better venue, Chapter's Seligman Theatre.

The first modular synths were developed in the 1960s by legendary US synth makers RA Moog and Co. and the scene received a major injection of energy and popularity with the invention of the “Eurorack” system by Germanys Doepfer Musikelektronik in the 90s. The backlash against the computer and software, and the rush back to electronic analogue hardware is still exploding today.

As well as niche specialists there are many mainstream artists who have discovered the joy of the modular – including Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Lloyd Cole and Radiohead.

The evening performances will see some truly great and talented British electronic musicians and sound sculptors."

Performers for this year's event include Mylar Melodies, Nigel Mullaney & Ian Boddy, Martin Dubka, Wisdom Water, and Dr John Biddulph.

Make Noise Black and Gold Shared System (Sketch1)

Published on Feb 25, 2016

That’s my first experience with Make Noise shared system and modular synths as well. Music a little bit experimental, I used sample from Ingmar Bergman`s «seventh seal». Thanks to my friend Kirilll who made all visuals of this live performance, Natalia and Fedor Vetkalov ( who helped me with choosing this great system and delivered it."

Bastl Kastle Lo-fi Tiny Modular Synthesizer

Supporting MATRIXSYNTH members get a %10 discount at Perfect Circuit Audio!

"A sampling of sounds, sequences, glitches, and just plain noise from Bastl's lo-fi modular powerhouse, the Kastle. These patches use a combination of patching the synth into itself and also with a Korg SQ-1 sequencer.

The Bastl Instruments Kastle literally brings modular synthesis to the palm of its user’s hand. The module is battery powered for maximum portability and boasts a characteristically lo-fi digital sound. The synthesizer has three voltage-controllable parameters—Pitch, Timbre, and Waveshape—and utilizes three different synthesis methods: phase distortion, phase modulation, and track & hold modulation. There's also a stepped waveform generator that enables the creation of pseudo-sequences, meaning this synth literally has everything one would need to create a modular progression.

Psychedelic Modular Patch

Published on May 16, 2017 Urs Heckmann

Urs Heckman of U-he.

"A quick recording of a minimalistic rhythmic patch I came up with. It's a bit on the repetitive side with a huge boomy bass, which makes it sound a bit psychedelic. The sitar-like timbres from Rings add to this.

I was exploring two things: Using the Vermona fourMulator as 'offbeat processor' to have shifted triggers and modulations, i.e. 'disguise the downbeat'. Using uScale, uVCA and Quadra (+ S&H in Kinks) to occasionally add a pseudo-random melody line into Rings. I also wanted the whole thing be transposable through Pressure Points.

Apart from that there's various triggers (Circadian Rhythm, A 142-1, more fourMulator) playing a few drum sounds (HexInv HiHat, Peaks BD, 'triangles' from SMR), another Pressure Points (with Brains) controlling a synth arpeggio (VCO2RM + OptoMix).

This is also the first patch I found worth recording, mainly also because it's contained on just one case/rack. I hope to find the time to explore some more patches that allow for more complex musical structures.

Also, in future I'll probably record each voice separately in order to get a better final mix and maybe also a more distinct amount of reverb and delay ;-)"

Sequential Circuits Pro-One SN 5131 w/ Prophet-5 Style Knobs

"Sequential Circuits Pro One, no modifications. Serial 5131. Looks almost new and has been fully serviced and tuned.

New bushings, J-Wire cleaned, all pots and switches cleaned. All pots changed to Prophet knobs. White noise fixed, external audio input fixed so that it does not distort at normal levels.

Sounds VERY Pro-One!"

Love the look of the metal Prophet-5 knobs over the original plastic. It gives the synth a more robust look. Made me think of Synthwood's wooden case for the Pro-One. JJ Abrams had his done. :) You'll also find a white one in the archives.
