BURG1k Synth Kit Setup - Session Three #volca #DrumBruteImpact #ehx720 #ms70CDR

Published on Nov 27, 2018 ollilaboratories

"If you like my stuff please support me on http://music.ollilab.com/ and https://www.patreon.com/theBURG

This is the Third video in my #BURG1K series and also inspirational video for the upcoming #BURG1KChallenge - stay tuned for this :)

In this one I am introducing the Electro Harmonix 720 stereo looper pedal and the Behringer 1002B mixer, yeay, stereo sound!! :)

Main focus and idea is around building the track and its layers on the 720 stereo looper. Volca Keys being the only instrument this creates a little bif of a challenge so I am using the majority of the sound modes in the unit.

Also, the ms-70 CDR "Filter PP delay" is playing a big part in this track, there is NO resonance / peak on the vKeys itself, all filter modulation is done in the zoom pedal. It is extremely powerful when it comes to creative sound design.

The ms-70 for the #DrumBruteImpact also provides some filtered delay action, but a bit more sensible and pulled back using the algorithm "Filter Dly".

Using the looper is great fun, expect to see it in more videos going forward.

Steve H's "Droplets Collide" on the Buchla 200e

Listen in stereo.

"This live, 3D performance features me, Steve H (aka Stephen Horelick composer of Reading Rainbow), playing the Buchla 200e. These sound gestures and timbres are then processed, sometimes looped and surround panned (using Fibonacci ratios) in Logic Pro X. Of course this is YouTube so this is a stereo mix!

Thanks to Mercy college for providing the space, master recording in Pro Tools and the tech support to make this happen. And thanks, too, to RiverArts for getting me out of my studio to perform my 3D surround compositions!"

The box includes a 14 page graphic instruction manual, a power supply, and 30 solid metal MELORHYTHMIC FUNNELS, used to resonate MELODY ORACLE with the MELORHYTHMIC WAVELENGTHS OF THE UNIVERSE.

Two eight-sided dice (included) can be used by any number of players to INVOKE THE ENDLESS SONG OF COSMIC ORDER AND CHAOS.

MELODY ORACLE has 8 multiturn fine tuners, a 1/4" audio line out and an "AMP LINK" port for interfacing with future AMP instruments and third-party synthesizer equipment.

1964 Modular Moog Synthesizer To Be Inducted To The TECnology Hall Of Fame In 2019

This one was spotted and sent in via Atomic Shadow.

via Forbes.com:

"At the 2019 NAMM Show, to be held in Anaheim, California, eight hugely significant audio inventions will be inducted to the TECnology Hall of Fame (THOF). Founder of the THOF, George Petersen announced the eight products for induction.

The inventions were chosen span from a period covering the 1940s to the present day. The event was presented by the NAMM Museum of Making Music and hosted by Petersen, a veteran pro-audio journalist.

The eight TECnology Hall of Fame inductees for 2019 include: the anechoic audio test chamber (Leo Beranek, 1943); beyerdynamic M160 ribbon microphone (1957), Bell Labs’ electret microphone patent (1964), Robert Moog’s 1964 Modular Moog Synthesizer; iZ Technology’s RADAR (24-track disk recorder, 1991); Meyer Sound Labs Source Independent Measurement (SIM) system (1991); Millennia Media HV-3 microphone preamplifier (1992), and the JBL Professional VerTec line array live sound system (2000)"

On Moog:

"Each inductee represents significant milestones and fascinating histories. The late Robert Moog is a household name for his music synthesizer development. His Modular Moog quickly became adopted by The Beatles, The Monkees, The Rolling Stones, Keith Emerson, and Wendy Carlos’ landmark Switched on Bach album."

Also note both Bob Moog and the Moog ladder filter were previously inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame:

Wayne Joness SBC-1324 Roland Vintage 24 and Modern 13 Pin Converter

Published on Nov 26, 2018 WayneJoness

Demo of the Wayne Joness SBC-1324 with the Roland G707 guitar and GR-300 guitar synth, and the Moog MP-201 Mulit-Pedal. The SBC-1324 is a converter with both 13 and 24 pin inputs, and 13 and 24 pin ouputs. The SBC-1324 was also featured here with a G-707 back in 2012. Below are some pics and info on its creation from joness.com.

"Back in 2009 I was approached by a very talented Canadian guitarist who wanted to be able to control both vintage Roland 24 pin GR-series synthesizers and modern Roland 13 pin GK-series synthesizers with one guitar, either a 13 or 24 pin guitar.

The SBC-1324 is the unit I built to meet this need. The unit has both 13 and 24 pin inputs, and a master analog switch to select between the two. There are six amplifiers for each string input, used primarily to boost the 13 pin signals to the 24 pin format, but they can also be used individually to amplify any single string input, whether 13 or 24 pin.

The unit also generates all the control voltages, plus hex fuzz, needed for the vintage Roland GR-series. For each control voltage, there is a switch to select from the signal coming from the guitar, or the internal control voltage.

In additional, there are control voltage inputs on the back for all four vintage control voltages, so that an external pedal, like the Moog MP-201, can be used as a control modulator. To top it off, an external control pedal can be used as the master control for each control voltage.

This was a one-off project, all hand-wired using perf boards and point-to-point wiring. To illustrate how to use the unit, I made several videos (shown below) that step through all the features."

Korg PE-1000 -- Polyphonic Ensemble SN 760397

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is a vintage Korg PE-1000 (Polyphonic Ensemble) from the 70s.

All keys work, all functions work, and it is in good working order. There is some cosmetic wear as you'd imagine for a 40+ year old synth, but it is in overall very good condition.

It has a separate oscillator per key. Not common for a 70s polyphonic synth. It sounds richer since detuning between octaves is possible using the Pitch Expand knob.

There are seven preset sounds: String, Pipe Organ, Brass, Piano, Electric Piano, Harpsichord and Clavichord, plus an eighth preset "Control" which is a free synth mode with a selection of square or sawtooth waveforms.

This synth has been used by Beach House to get a lot of their distinctive string synth sounds. Really cool, unique sounds from this.

Note: This is the 100v Japanese model and will run fine on a 115/120v without a transformer, however if you intend to play for a long time having a step-down transformer is advisable."

"It has all blue & white LED's, custom black rubber sides, custom black back panel. This is unlike any Moog you will ever come across and it sounds just as beautiful as it looks. The mods were done with help from Moog directly, they were great at assisting me with sourcing spare parts and any info I needed to complete this project.

All LED's are blue except for the pitch bend and mod wheel which I have changed to white. I can't stress how badass this looks in person."

"Next up in my #2hpTuesdays series of videos looking at the ... you guessed it ... 2hp series of Eurorack modules is the 'Hat'. Not a lovely Deerstalker, Fez of visor beanie but a hi hat module in 2hp. You get a closed and open hi hat, with the closed hi hat choking the open hi hat like many famous drum machines and a real pair of hi hats. We go through the sounds, modulation and making some non-hihat tones like cymbal hits and more cowbell like percussive sounds."
