Panoptigon plays Philip Glass - Einstein On The Beach - Orchestron & Optigan Discs

Published on Feb 15, 2019 optigandotcom

"While Panoptigon isn't particularly suited to overdubbing entire arrangements with itself, we thought it'd be fun to do a quick excerpt from Philip Glass' Einstein On The Beach (Train 1), since all the basic sounds required already exist on Orchestron / Optigan discs. Heard here are the Orchestron Flute, Saxophone, Solo Female Voice, and Pipe Organ discs, as well as the organ sound from the Optigan Nashville Country disc. The Flute disc was pitch bent an octave up to simulate the piccolo called for in the score, and the bass line of the Pipe Organ disc was pitch bent an octave down to get the low notes needed. A bit of reverb was added to the mix, but there was no EQ or other processing applied. You can find info about pre-ordering a Panoptigon here: http://optigan.com/2019/01/panoptigon..."

Oddly enough the following just went up:

Philip Glass on His Collaboration With Aphex Twin | Red Bull Music Academy

Published on Feb 15, 2019 Red Bull Music Academy

"The celebrated composer Philip Glass recalls meeting a young Richard D. James, AKA Aphex Twin, in New York City and collaborating with the producer on a handful of tracks and combining their unique approaches. #composition #aphextwin

Watch the full lecture - [below] - to hear Philip Glass wax nostalgic on his time spent in Paris, musical tradition, collaborations with Aphex Twin, David Byrne and Ornette Coleman and the art of performance.

It’s hard to overstate the influence of New York City composer Philip Glass. Along with Steve Reich, his minimalist compositions transformed the world of classical music and, eventually, popular music in general. Glass’ early epiphanies occurred in Paris during his time in the mid-’60s studying under Nadia Boulanger and in New York when he heard Steve Reich’s “Piano Phase.” These events helped set Glass on a course toward the repetitive, dramatic, and conceptually rigorous style that has become his trademark. Throughout the ’70s Glass refined his work, resulting in career-defining compositions like Music In Twelve Parts and Einstein On The Beach. In the process, he became a popular sensation, a serious composer who wasn’t willfully obscure or too difficult to understand. Glass’ stunning soundtrack work for films like The Thin Blue Line and The Hours, and a symphony based on David Bowie’s album Heroes, has only elevated his standing as one of America’s most popular living composers.

Red Bull Music Academy is the educational pillar of the Red Bull Music program. It is a global institution that for 20 years has been committed to fostering creativity in music by collaborating with those who are shaping our musical landscape and creating spaces for music makers to learn and immerse themselves."

Padding with the Delta CEP A

Published on Feb 15, 2019 Jörg Schaaf

"Some 'padding' with the Delta CEP A. Not bad for a "monophonic" synth ;-)
I did two snapshots for that sound. One of them uses only the Bandpass Filter and the other the Bandpass and the lowpass filter at the same time. The second sound also changes the waveform from a Sawtooth to a pulse. But the main sound animation comes from the modulation of the digital stereo multimode filter. The cutoff frequencies are modulated with opposite LFO phases to get this nice stereo animation in the sound.
The Delta CEP A has two different paraphonic modes. One retriggers the envelope everytime a new note message comes in. And the other mode only adds the two additional oscillators per voice without triggering the envelope.
At the end I am adding a little bit EFFEXX stuff to the sound.
Last but not least. In case you don't know this mode in the Delta. The paraphonic mode has 4 voices with two oscillators each. Just enough to create some phat pads with the Delta.

The DELTA CEP A is a new semimodular musicsynthesizer with monophonic and paraphonic playmodes, preset memories and snapshot automation. The DELTA CEP A is the perfect starting point into the EURORACK world and will become available soon as desktop standalone synthesizer and EURORACK module. The DELTA CEP A works just out of the box without any cable patching. If you are looking for a EURORACK FX unit or for POLYPHONY within your cabinet, you should also have a closer look as well. Are you curious about connectivity with your other gear? The DELTA CEP A has a MIDI interface and connects to every MIDI gear (MIDI sequencers, Keyboards etc.) The desktop version comes with standard 1/4 inch jack inputs and outputs."

Korg Volca Modular Patch Demo 12 Mins

Published on Feb 15, 2019 Dj Puzzle

"Just got a Kord Volca Modular and had some time to experiment with it for the first time today. This is pretty much my very fisrt impression. Created this patch and then turned knobs to get many different variations and sounds. Yes it’s a lot of wild and crazy synth noises but that’s what it’s all about baby! Lots of fun. I got it from Amazon here"

"Early 90s Roland synths are notorious for having a horrible red glue under the Key weights, which years later started to leak and cause sticky keys and other problems. I bought this synth with that problem fixed, most of the red glue was replaced or sealed away by new hot glue. As you can see from the pictures the glue hasn't leaked and is under control, most JD800 auctions won't contain pictures of underneath the keys for this reason! Also comes with original box (not pictured)"

"Undoubtedly one of the fattest sounding synths we've heard, and it's loaded with versatility. There's a reason why Aphex Twin decided to use not just one, but two of these to produce Syro."

"Amazing sounding vintage string synthesizer. Very rare. It has 25 oscillators with organ style divider circuits to create a full and enveloping symphonic sound, especially with the Ensemble effect engaged and the internal spring reverb cranked up. Very clean inside/out and fully functional. Some of the keys need to be leveled, but they do work. No lid"

Rutt-Etra Style Vector Rescanning With LZX Eurorack Modules & Vectrex

"We used the LZX Visual Cortex, Navigator and Shapechanger to generate and manipulate scanline images that are displayed on a Vectrex monitor. Read our article about scanline manipulation for more information about how this works: https://www.perfectcircuit.com/articl...

We used the LZX Escher Sketch as a control interface for the vectors. The sounds are generated in the eurorack case by a Rossum Assimil8or sampler for drums and a Harvestman Piston Honda MK3 for synthesizer sounds. A Strymon Magneto provides delay and reverb.

Song-A-Day & #RPM Challenge 14 - 'End Credits' Synthwave on PO-20 Po-28 & Blofeld

Published on Feb 15, 2019 ChrisLody

"So here's a bit of chip tune inspired music on the Pocket Operator PO-20 Arcade and PO-28 Robot, which are a match made in heaven in my opinion, joined eventually by a C64 style pwm lead sound on the Waldorf Blofeld. It has a really nice wavetable called Micro PWM which sounds like it must have been sampled from a SID chip to me as it's very close to the authentic sound of 8 bit hardware. The whole thing sounds like some sort of synthwave end credits to me."

Roland VP 03 vocoder jam with Volca Sample and SH 01A

Published on Feb 15, 2019 Ian R

"Sorry about the video angle, my tripod is out of commission for the moment.

Some noodling with the Roland VP 03. This is maybe my favorite of the boutiques, it's surprising how nice it can sound with a few effects- even with the cheap gooseneck mic. Also some bass from SH 01A and drums from Vocla sample. Reverb from the Zoom MS 70CDR. Hope the audio comes through well enough to enjoy.

I guess the song is called upside down, since those are the only lyrics. I'm no kind of songwriter or vocalist but maybe if I keep messing with this thing i'll need to start doing some lyric writing."

Mutes - the First DivKid Eurorack Module

Published on Feb 15, 2019 DivKidVideo

We have a new (and familiar) maker in town. :) Congrats to DivKid! I added a new DivKid maker label to the site. Don't miss the interview with BoBeats further below.

"**TIMING INDEX / SECTIONS BELOW** So here we have it, the FIRST DivKid Eurorack module. It's been a long journey (and and on / off casual one to start with) since I first drew up a rough idea and panel design for this years back but this super simple, but highly effective little module (if I do say so myself) is finally released! Now I'm not a circuit designer or manufacturer, which is why this took some time. But more recently I worked with Befaco to bring this to life so I'm proud to say that although this is a DivKid module the PCBs say "powered by Befaco" on them. There's tonnes of potential ways to patch and make use of this and nothing will make me happier than to see the module living in peoples systems for a long time. This is available as a DIY kit or PCB/panel as well as assembled. Check the link below for more information.

**CORRECTION** This is available as a FULL DIY KIT or PCB/Panel combo not a partial kit as I say at the end of the video.

ARP MODEL 2600 SYNTHESIZER demo after service and slider repairs

Published on Feb 15, 2019 Vykaar Tones

"ARP 2600 recorded flat in stereo to cubase. Only a few seconds of added Eventide Timefactor delay towards the end. The 2600 is being sequenced from a Doepfer Darktime with the gate going through a custom made box which increases the gate voltage to +15 volts. The CV for pitch is going to the KBD CV out jack which then routes it to all three VCOs. The sliders on these have to be desoldered from the pcbs and opened up for gentle cleaning - a quick squirt of deoxit or similar from the front panel is NOT recommended and will make things worse."
