Dave Smith Instruments Poly Evolving Pads

"Demo of evolving Pad sounds from the DSI Poly Evolver Keyboard polychained with the Poly Evolver Rack, so it has 8 voices.

I programmed a set of around 60 Pads, some from scratch, some from presets and also some from third party banks.

The Evolver series are known to be harsh sounding. The Curtis Filter Chips are quite aggressive, but you can achieve very warm tones and the instrument is capable for evolving pads thanks of the two LP Filter you can set individually in the stereo field.

Also with the 3 tap delay you can program chorus effects and take usage of the 4 LFO plus the third envelope and the step sequencer.

Even the digital OSC can sound very warm, when you use in a subtle way the Ring Modulator or FM effect.

The Synthesizer has a very big dynamic range, so the sounds are so dynamic in this video, that the basic volume is quit low. Also I took often usage of hard panned voices in the stereo field, so the sounds are really very much moving/evolving.

I didn't use any mastering, addional effects or euqalizer in this video. Everything is recorded life from the two synthesizers out from the PER mixer with two channels directly to the audio interface.

The VCS3 has three oscillators (the first two oscillators are normal oscillators and the third an LFO or Low Frequency Oscillator), a noise generator, two input amplifiers, a ring modulator, 24 dB/octave voltage controlled low pass filter (VCF), a trapezoid envelope generator, joy-stick controller, voltage controlled spring reverb unit and 2 stereo output amplifiers. Unlike most modular synthesiser systems which use cables to link components together, the VCS 3 uses a distinctive patch board matrix into which pins are inserted in order to connect its components."

RhythmBud is a MIDI effect application that would transform incoming MIDI messages into the rhythmic pattern you will create on its editor.

Has a very easy-to-use user interface that would work on iPad Pro to iPhone SE size screens as well as resizeable AUv3 plugin windows.

In its timeline editor, you can create/edit your rhythm patterns while controlling its MIDI transformation settings from its toolbar on the bottom.

You have quick timeline editor options on the top-left action menu - clear pattern, quantize, undo and redo.

"Kawai 100-F, cosmetically great, everything works perfectly (filter, modulations, audio in, 100% functionning)EXCEPT that the notes are out of tune (a few cents between each note, but the octaves do not match).
This "out of tune" problem appears on most Kawai 100 -F (see forums on the web), I guess a good synth fan knows how to fix that!"

"The first new piece of music I've written and released since 2012. As a challenge to myself, I tasked myself with creating a song using nothing but my old Moog/Realistic Concertmate MG-1 synthesizer--which is a REAL challenge given that I'm not a synth geek and my keyboard skills are dodgy at best. It also had to sound like something that could've been made and released around the time the synth was made (circa 1982). As such, effects are used sparingly and are confined to the basics (read: EQ, reverb & compression).

Written as part of my ongoing attempts at creating some new, original incidental music for Oddity Archive.
