Theme Ospital soundtrack - Remix with Roland Jupiter 6

Published on Mar 22, 2020 mima14031985

"This is a different video compared to the others I usually do. I did a complete remix of the Theme Ospital's game soundtrack, using custom sounds that I made with my Roland Jupiter 6. For the drum tracks I used the GM drumset of my Roland RD700GX digital piano. My reference on how these tunes sound is them being played by a Yamaha OPL3 FM synthesizer, driven with the standard Windows driver's GM set, this reflects a bit on how some sounds are made. The electric piano and some basses are examples of that. For other sounds I preferred a more classic analog vibe, brasses and strings/pads are typical of the analog world.

To record the soundtrack I used the game's original MIDI files. I imported them into Reaper and did one track a time by driving the keyboards via MIDI and recording back the audio coming from them. To make the final result easy on the ear I added a bit of reverb to the master mix. You'll notice that some parts are in stereo (mainly the electric piano lines and background pads/strings), for these I recorded the same MIDI track two times, with the Jupiter's master tune a little different each time, and hard panned each of the two parts to left and right. This allows to achieve a cool "wide stereo spread" effect.

For those who own a Jupiter 6, here's the patch dump: https://www.dropbox.com/s/q86wd8d7m4a...

To make the video I chose to do a multitrack oscilloscope show, and I made it using the SIDWiz2 program, made by Rolf R. Bakke and RushJet1. This is a neat little piece of computer jargon! Check their Youtube channels, they're full of those awesome multitrack oscilloscope shows.

Here's the playlist:

00:09 - 1) Steady Pulse
03:34 - 2) 6's and 7's
07:02 - 3) Night Shift
10:10 - 4) Atlantis
13:28 - 5) Fortune
15:49 - 6) Doctor Frog
17:21 - 7) Candyfloss
18:47 - 8) On The Mend

As always, I hope you like it. Please feel free to comment :-)"

AMBIENT MatrixBrute - PEAK - JU-06A - Sequential REV2

Published on Mar 22, 2020 Alba Ecstasy

"NEW Roland JU-06 #patches: https://www.albaecstasy.ro/roland-ju-...
The Arturia MatrixBrute and the Prophet REV2 are awakening in me the spirit of the 70's!

The fact that #MatrixBrute and also REV2 are not keeping their tempo really accurate (and the fact that I sync them manually, not interconnected), in time this is going to produce a nice little rhythmic mess, and it's like producing some early Berlin School tracks.

The Sequential Prophet REV is running two separate sequences ( split mode) and the MatrixBrute is running on the Duo Split mode.

Hope you'll enjoy this track as much as I enjoyed performing it!

The (R)evolution of Multicassa

Pictured: three iterations of the Multicassa in via leploop. The Multicassa is inspired from the Trautonium. You can find additional details here.

"The Multicassa is a full analog electronic instrument composed of tree Cassa (bass drum) generators controlled by an analog Trautonium like rhythms generator, without a microprocessor, available in desktop and euro rack format.

The term Trautonico is inspired by a vintage instrument, the Mixturtrautonium, invented by Oskar Sala musician, a student of Hindemith, which elaborate it, since the 30s on the basis of another instrument more simple, the Heimtrautonium, manufactured by Telefunken in the '20s, one of the first electronic instruments for the living room.

Early versions of Mixturtrautonium use as frequency dividers the Thyratron(a type of gas valve that could be used to build oscillators and frequency dividers), these dividers acting on the notes producing subharmonic that could be mixed (hence MIXTUR) for produce complex sounds, the same principle is used here with two differences:
- The valves are replaced by solid-state trigger circuits.

- Dividers act not to the notes but on the rhythms, by dividing a basic rhythm (clock) for a variable number (with the command Clock Divider) rhythms are then mixed 2 by 2 (Trig Mix) generating a complex poly rhythms.
- An output mixer allows you to adjust the volume of each speaker.

Each Cassa has a pitch, resonance and distortion control, the tree Cassa generators have different pitch range:
1_Low(Cassa), 2_Medium(Bongo\Tom), 3_High(rim shot\wood block).
The high channel can produce some scratch noise when you move the frequency pot, because the circuit design and the very high pitch, this is normal.
The clock can be generated internally or applied externally through jack on the left side of the unit.
The Multicassa accepts any type of clock pulse or square wave of 3-12 volts amplitude, with any polarity including the Midi clock, as long as the midi line is present only midi clock and no other messages (notes, control changes, sysex, etc.) ."

This is obviously inspired by the Soma Lyra-8, which I love, but it's not a clone at all.

Korg ARP 2600FS Goes Surface Mount

Compare the pics of the inside to an original ARP 2600 here.

This one is in via effegee:

"Patrick Jöricke (AKA DSLman) opened up his new Korg ARP 2600 FS to see what’s inside and its featured in an article on Amazona.de

It’s answers the question, “Are the circuit components thru-hole (like the original) or surface-mount?” The answer, with photographic proof, is: surface-mount.

Patrick, who is the leading authority on building and modding the TTSH (he’s built 60 of them and repaired 20), says in the comments below the article that the Korg 2600 is worth the 4000€ asking price, considering all of the labor and assembly.

Here are his comments, German—> English in google translate:

[quote]
If you first consider the following points:
material costs
Labor costs
Prototyping costs / development
Profit
Taxes
transport
Risk premium
Aftersales / support / manuals / firmware etc.

Then you take into account the two hand-made housings in terms of wages and materials, which you can't get really cheap even on CNC wood milling machines, not even in Asia.
The pcbs cost almost nothing, nor do the SMT components. (Approx. 100 € for everything)
It only gets “expensive” with the sockets and sliders.
The panel does not cost the world either (20-50 €).
What takes several hours is putting it together.
The roadcase probably costs another 100 € (presumably through external)
All in all, that fits with € 4,000.
We also want them to benefit and are willing to continue building more of them.

LifeFormModular 1.1

Published on Mar 22, 2020 Time_Controlled_Organism

"LifeFormModular Update 1.1

New :

-Driftgen : CV Utility
Will make your signal subtly drift. Useful to detune oscillators for example.
Made by using a sample and hold against noise, slewing the result and adding it to the original signal by small amount.
You can vary the rate of the sample and hold, which will inversely act on the slew time. You can also vary the amount of "shaking"signal to be added to the source via the depth knob.
works only when input is connected!

-ComplexOsc :
Made with two sine oscillators with phase distorsion (in two dimensions, x and y mod.).
You can FM the carrier by the modulator. You can mix the two oscs.
At the end of the chain there's a clipper that will turn the signal into a square.
You can send independant CVs for carrier and modulator
There are outputs for the indivual oscs, try self patching for wild sounds.

Just sent the source, should be available soon in plugin manager , hoping everything works, thanks!"

Stick Shift - OutRun Synthwave Italo Disco Stuff - Yamaha Cs2x Only

Published on Mar 22, 2020 ChrisLody

"In the spirit of trying something different, here's a genre I've never tried before, Outrun. I mean I've made Synthwave before but not this specific sub genre. Had a blast actaully!

My chosen weapon for this task is the pretty underrated Yamaha Cs2x. It was made entirely using this keyboard with no other external effects other than a bit of eq and a bit of lazy mastering, ie turning it up a bit.

The first track is a preset I built for the occasion containing drums and the chugging bass line running on 4 separate bits of midi and 4 different layers on the Cs2x. This runs through it's built in compressor. The other layers were recorded by hand and are just presets with a little tweaking. That's it."

Minimoog & Source sequence - using 960 '4th row' modification...

Published on Mar 22, 2020 noddyspuncture

"I like building custom modifications - especially when they surprise me by ending up being even more useful and amazing than I envisaged..! This one is, even if I say so myself, one of my best so far without a doubt. The 960 sequencer is great but when you use it to play two separate lines on two separate synths, you still only get one row left for the control of the filter. I use my 960 via a gate sequencer so the 'skip/normal/stop' mode switches are redundant which gave me the idea of adding a '4th row' to the 960. I was thinking of removing them but in the end I just built the row of pot's into an external plastic strip - you can see it on the Minimoog there - it's not fully finished and I've yet to cut it down to size and stick some knobs on. It's on a 'flying lead' and on this video is controlling filter CV of one synth with the third row of the sequencer controlling the other. Opens up a whole world of new possibilities... I knew it was a good idea... 😍"

Of Permutation, Future, and Hope | Modular Vignette Series

"Public service announcements, cute logos and catchphrases and official communications are all well and good, but those will fall on deaf ears when the bodies start to pile up... When there are no jobs to be had.

With calm sadness in my heart, the realization that what our children are about to witness is no different than the stories of hardship our grandparents and great grandparents shared with us when we were children.

Times unrecognizable as we arrogantly assume we have evolved past such desperation. We have not. This is the moment before the after that will forever change the face of humanity. A line, a bracket, in the timeline of human history.

Hold on to each other and brace... find comfort and harden your thoughts, as we only have each other. As governments turn their backs or topple, economies collapse and the faithful lose their sense of direction, it will be self reliance and sense of community that saves us.

Cooperate, Assimilate, Amalgamate, or Annihilate... it’s up to us. Maybe this is what we needed to see the humanity in each other, once again. Maybe this will change how we see each other... 'Flatten the Curve' is not a plan. It's a contingency for damage control.

Hope is such an interesting thing."

This might be a great alternative to buying all those controllers that only control one synthesizer. Please let me know your opinions and thoughts on this Editor. Take care, Sam."
