Duelling Korg: MS 20 Kit and MS 20m perform Duelling Banjos from Deliverance

Published on May 18, 2020 Surface Noises

"Here's a potentially unbearable version of the Duelling Banjos music made famous by Deliverance, performed on MS 20 Kits (the MS 20 Kit and MS 20M KIt). With some rudimentary smartphone camera work so amateurish it's bordering on the ridiculous.

I have been toying with the idea of selling off all my synths. To show off the condition of these two wonderful devices (which I assembled myself from Korg kits), I decided to make a very quick rough video.

I got a quick midi sequence playing and then multitracked the results, recording four instances featuring both synths playing at the same time. Then I waved my camera around. 15 minutes later I had this video.

When I took a bit of time to play the synths when they were next to each other on the stand, I fell back in love with them - so they haven't been sold yet. Which I'm glad about! Korg really nailed its vintage reissues."

Only time will tell (Asia cover) with all GS Music synths

Published on May 18, 2020 GS Music

"Asia cover with our friend Juan Grima.

In this video we used Apollo Mini for the synth bass, the Apollo prototype with delay for the lead synth and Zeus for the electric piano like sound.

A Korg TR was used as a controller for both the Apollo Mini and Apollo I (with split keyboard).

'Only Time Will Tell' is the third single (second in the US) released by the progressive rock band Asia from their successful first album, Asia (1982)."

EML Synkey 2001 w/ CV/Gate mod

"incredibly rare Synkey. Bought for a project last year and now just want to make some room.

If you aren’t familiar, this was the last synth released by EML and while technically a monosynth has 13 oscillators that can be “stacked” in chromatic intervals to create chords. It could also “save” presets via punch cards and the reader on the left but I have never had or used the feature.

This also has a *very* rare CV/gate mod that can be used via the portamento jack on the back. It works via a standard TRS to TR/TS Y insert cable, where the tip goes to CV ring goes to gate. You can search YouTube for the Synkey and see it in action from a previous owner some time ago.

While I’ve never had it serviced, the Synkey itself is in pretty incredible shape physically—though like any 40 year old synth has the occasional scratchiness. I’ve never looked into who could even work on it, though I know there are technicians around that do work on other EML synths (like the EML-101)

I attached a video I took this morning that shows some of the functionality of the front panel and a lot of the modulation sounds."

McBennett Sequencer with Arduino UNO

Hydrasynth Sensel Morph MPE Explorations

"Sensel Morph MPE tests with the Hydrasynth in MPE mode...variety of controls assigned in the Mod Matrix to pitch, cutoff, drive, and the amazing individual control of 'warps' of specific cross sections of the OSC wave form and if thats not enough freeze reverb manual control for added epicness :) ...truly a unique experience. Using a dual setup of the Sensel morphs with the Buchla overlay and a Keys overlay is mind-blowing with a capable MPE synth !"

Quick Stab test with Moog Subharmonicon feat Mfb Tanzbar Drum Machine

Published on May 18, 2020 Sound Provider

"Someone ask me about Stab with the Subharmonicon Synth so I did a very very quick test here for him and also for anyone else who might be interested..

No Midi here , The Tanzbar do the Kick/hh/Clap and send the Clock and start/reset via Gate to the Synthesizer. I also use the drum machine rimshot individual output to trig some of the chord. So the Stab are triggered by the synth and the Drum Machine.

Voila

Akai MPC One (why it's great with midi and eurorack hardware!)

Published on May 18, 2020 Perfect Circuit

"The Akai MPC One (and also the new MPC Live II) is not just a great sampler, but also a powerful centerpiece of your hardware studio. The MPC velocity sensitive pads are great for programming in drum patterns with the built in samples or ones that you record or import. There are built in synths as well, and the MPC One can sequence tons of midi hardware as well as CV/Gate hardware like eurorack or semi-modular synths or even vintage pre-midi gear. There are 8 CV outputs which can be configured any way you like to match the gear you are using with it.

If you want to use an external synth more than once in a track you can also easily sample it into the MPC One. The sample gets saved into the project so your samples stay organized. The MPC One is a great sampler/sequencer alternative to all of the XOX style sequencers, you can add some more human feel to your patterns by programming them in with the pads, but you also have quantization or piano roll style editing options available.

TTMC Dual Sine Saw new features

Published on May 18, 2020 Todd Barton

"I did 25 minutes of overview, demos and explorations on the prototype of this module here: [playlist below]

So check them out to hear/see and get a feel for this card.

This present video will just point out the new hardware features with this final production model.
http://tokyo-tape-music-center.xyz

The two main new features are:
1) a mixed output for both oscillator A and B with independent volume pots. This is great since you can now send both oscillators to the Aux Input on the Easel.

2) Now when switching the oscillators from Internal to External the large Frequency knob controls the pitch offset. In the prototype, like the original Buchla 158 module, in External mode you needed a CV processor to bring the pitch up into useable range.

I love these two new features and the greatly expand the possibilities of this card.

Guitar Bits (TX Wiggles 62)

"I was just messing around with Eurorack and guitar this morning and came up with this glitchy combination of sounds. It uses the Dave Smith Mopho & Korg Volca Beats along with the modular and the guitar. The guitar goes into the Pittsburgh InOut and then into the Dwarfcraft Hax and finally through MI Clouds. Both are heavily modulated by various CV sources."

"Made in East Germany in the early 70s! A lovely organ with some classic sounds that you may be looking for. Its transistor organ, halfway between the continental Vox and the Farfisa Compact. A look "Eastern Europe" dressed in faux wood plastic, a very typical rock garage sound and a beautiful integrated reverb. A small feature that I really like the "repeat" function that allows you to play the notes in eighth notes.

Unfortunately for spares and repairs. Wont power up and needs service repair. All buttons, keys, sliders switches are in place."

Yorick Tech Low Frequency Expander modulating the Nord Wave 2

Published on May 18, 2020 Steve Hunt

"The LFE was designed to control the OB6 and Prophet 6 synths but is now able to control the Nord Wave 2 and Korg Prologue as well. Just a quick demo to show some of the modulation possibilities available - there are about 80 modulation destinations which can be controlled by 4 generators: a 6-stage envelope that can also be a 16 step modulation sequencer, and 3 complex LFOs. Each can also be multiplied by another controller, so the level of each modulator can be affected by aftertouch, velocity, mod wheel, one of the other modulators etc..."

Using an Arduino to display Sequential/DSI OB-6 patch names

Published on May 18, 2020 thisisobsolete

Thought this was interesting. I never really thought about it, but patch names are stored on the OB-6 itself even though they aren't displayed.

"The Sequential/DSI OB-6 doesn't have a display capable of showing patch names, though the patches are named (for when using a computer based patch editor). I like patch names. They help with categorisation and can be a source of inspiration or ideas.

Here I'm using an Arduino with an LCD shield and a MIDI interface (off screen) to read and display patch names from the OB-6. The method is very simple. The Arduino listens for program change messages, on receipt it sends a SysEx message requesting a dump of the program buffer. The patch name is extracted from the incoming data and written to the LCD."

[tutorial] Waldorf Quantum 14: Modulation Matrix

Published on May 18, 2020 Synthesizer Video Service

"Part 14: Waldorf is also known for the modulation matrix. It's a perfect tool to organize all of the modulations of a patch. You get an overview of all modulation conntections, their intensity and you can even modulate the modulation amount itself. But there are even additional pages to get a list of modulation destinations or sources for just for one section of the patch. And the best: You can create a new modulation assignment directly by touching just the two knobs for source and destination."
