Sequential Prophet 10 REV4 | Downward and deeper

MIDERA Prophet 10 posts

"Prophet 10 REV4 with Strymon DIG as pseudo chorus and delay pedal.

My first assessment was wrong. Just plain wrong. At first it seemed so basic - like nothing more than nice wood sounding like something my Virus TI could mimic. It took a few days - but now I am convinced that this synth is far more complex than any other synthesizer I've used. It has only 1 LFO, and this small section called Poly-Mod - how is it able to develop into so many other sounds? It can go from an ambient drone to something I thought I'd only hear on a DX7. Who went from the P5 to a DX7 and thought 'This is the path foward?' I mean, it happened. Nothing against the DX7, I quite love FM because it's really interesting... maybe people just couldn't afford the P5, that's probably a big part of it, but I bet some people ditched their P5 for a DX7.

Sequential helped me out regarding the loose pot from my previous video. It is now fixed. No issues with it. Just a glorious synth.

Now my question is - do I hang on to my other synthesizers? The JX3P, the Polaris, the Polysix? They have nothing on the P5/10. The Polaris wins in a pissing contest for which one has the most massive Bladerunner sound. The JX3P has that Roland Chorus, the polysix has... And anyway they all seem so redundant now. I don't even know what to do about my SY77 anymore. That one had 'the best keybed' and now - I know it doesn't. The Prophet 10 has a slightly better keybed. But... I will probably keep these synths. I have an incredible ability to sell things and regret it. I could easily get another Polysix and JX3P, but I don't think I could as easily get a Polaris. Plus, once the Juno 6 and 60 get to unobtainium value, these will rise because they're next in line... not a great reason to keep them, I admit. But it's still a reason.

Anyway, this track originally had a bunch of stuff before this, but I decided that I didn't want it to take 7 minutes for someone to get to this part because I know most people leave before 2 minutes are up. Of course, it's still 20+ min long."

Modular Synth Music // Gotharman's anAmoNo X #TTNM

"Gotharman's anAmoNo X is a modular synthesizer workstation with analog filters, digital oscillators, audio samplers and granular effects in a small convenient box. Of course the first thing to do with a modular synth is to patch up some bleeps, bloops, analog filter pings and ambient noises. It's just so much fun and especially lovely in stereo! No samples were used, only the internal synth engines, and no external effects, apart from a little EQing and compression during video editing. As a visual treat you get some of Gieskes' 3TrinsRGB+1c analog video synthesis."

Using MPE with the Ashun Sound Machines Hydrasynth [Tutorial]

"The Ashun Sound Machines is one of the first hardware synthesizers to adopt the MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE) standard. See how to setup MPE on the Hydrasynth, and how to get the most of it with different sound design ideas for different types of music. We use the Sensel Morph as an MPE controller, though the lessons apply for any MPE controller.

Setup your DAW for MPE with Hydrasynth [Tutorial]

"We go through Logic Pro X, Ableton Live 11, Bitwig Studio, and Cubase 10 to show you how to setup the Ashun Sound Machines Hydrasynth as an external instrument for MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE). It's pretty simple, but there's usually one thing that can trip you up, so we go into all the details.

Sequential Artist Spotlight Interview with PETER VOIGTMANN

You can find the interview on Sequential's website here.

"Peter Voigtmann is a musician/producer who is living in an old mill between Bremen and Hamburg, Germany, where he is also running his own studio. He started chasing a professional career in 2012 as a drummer, with his main focus on sound and vibe, while constantly gaining more experience in recording and production. The outcome of all his electro-acoustic experiments can be heard in his solo project called SHRVL. In 2014 he started playing drums in the Noise-Rock-Post-Punk band HEADS, which he recorded 2 Albums and 1 Split EP with. These releases lead to a lot of touring through Europe and the US. After simultaneously being the lighting designer for the Post/Progressive-Metal band The Ocean Collective for 4 years, Peter changed position within the collective and began to work on all kinds of synths, soundscapes and samples for their 7th album Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic, which came out in November 2018. The following year they played several tours across Europe, India, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Japan, and lots of European festivals. On September 25th 2020 they released their more eclectic, experimental and synth-heavy follow up Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic.

We chatted with Peter on how he uses the Prophet-6 and OB-6 in his music"

Cinematic Synthesizer - Roland D-50 (1987) "The Missing"

"In this series of videos we will show cinematic side of our synth collection.

Continuing with Liner Arithmetic Synthesizer - Roland D50 with our custom sounds combined in 2 tracks & beautiful universe immersion."

Update: video is back with a new title.

"My attempt at bringing this classic synth back from the dead.

A kit synth from 1978, this was actually a pretty decent mono synth and was famously used by Joy Division on their first album.

Thin Air - Genki Wave MIDI Ring vs. ROLI Equator2 Synth Performance

Nular Music

"In this video I used the Wave MIDI ring by Genki Instruments to control the parameters of ROLI's Equator2 synth plugin via hand gestures.

I've been fascinated by this form of expression since I first heard about Source Audio's Hot Hand ring and the Mi.Mu Gloves, but I couldn't see how I could integrate it into my workflow until now.

nularseq, the Max for Live sequencer I developed specifically for finger drumming turned out to work very well in this context: it allows me to trigger sequences of MIDI notes via tapping my fingers.

Equator2's deep modulation system allows me to control the sound exactly the way I want to. In this performance I used the pan gesture to blend between two oscillators, the tilt gesture to control filter cutoff and scan through a wavetable and the roll gesture to control delay feedback, unison detune and various other parameters.

It's a pretty amazing experience to be able to trigger notes and control various aspects of the sound completely untethered, and I can see a lot of creative uses of this technology. Don't panic, I don't intend to ditch my Launchpad anytime soon =), but expect more videos exploring this form of expression from me soon."

Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Rev.2 SN 0630

via this auction

"I bought this Prophet 5 in Venice from a music producer 6 years ago. It's the rare Rev2 version. It has a stronger and warmer sound compared to the later versions, but more instable.

The Power supply is a little bit noisy and the synth needs to be turned on for 15 minutes and a few autotunes to stabilize. But all these things are normal for this version. The sound has its charm and character, the SSM gives the sound a distinctive power. Mine has just been recently serviced. An SSM 2020, a few SSM30, an I3292 (electronic switch), TL084 (operational) have been replaced with original components. Ideally necessary a recalibration of the ADC and DAC from a good tech to have a perfect instrument."

Tease - Korg OPSIX Patch Idea

"We don't usually do this, but we found a great way to create patches on the new Korg OPSIX FM synth, so we thought we'd share it. -Load up DX 7 patches (yeah you can, its easy) find an interesting patch, swap algorithms around till you find something you like, then adjust to taste."
