Roland Jupiter-8 The Arpeggiator | Magic!

video by Espen Kraft

TheSynthFreq's Jupiter-8!

"I'm an arpeggiator addict. I've always been drawn to the synths that has built in arpeggiators. The Jupiter 8 has one of the best arps on any vintage synths, maybe the best even.

Not necessarily because I'd use it in every song, I like to play my arps myself, but to me it's an instant source of inspiration, but also very usable in a live situation. Octave bass, fillers or just a fun way of chopping up the chords.

The arp in the Jupiter 8 is very cool. It defaults to the "Poly 2" key mode, but it can be used in all the key modes actually, in Unison as well.
In this video I also clock it from an external trigger (the 808) where I have programmed a 16 step accent that goes out of the 808 through the "accent out" and in to the JP8s arpeggio "trigger in".
You can also use DIN-sync from other external gear and the JP8 then gives you the possibility to change the clock divider, also from the back switches.

Using the trigger accents means that you can program any pattern you want and have the arp play according to the steps programmed so you don't HAVE to use only a 16 beat pattern."

Sequential Pro 3 vs. Prophet-6 | Synth Sound Comparison: Which do you prefer?

video by MR TUNA Music

"It's the super synth showdown nobody asked for! Today we are comparing the sounds of the beautiful and polyphonic Sequential Prophet-6 to the deadly Pro 3 mono-synth . For the purposes of this comparison I am going to keep the P6 on mono-mode for the entirety of the video.

Things get preeeettttyyy scientific, so dont worry if you can't keep up with all the math and equations I'm using to accurately compare these two beauties.

So what do you prefer? Prophet-6 or Pro 3?

Personally I'll never sell my Prophet-6, but I am having sooo much fun with the 3.

"Just playing through all the presets on the Sequential MAX. Great little synth!"

via this auction

"Great little 80's analog synth. Sequential Circuits MAX. Lots of cool presets, and you can make your own sounds by using a patch editor on your computer. It was originally designed to be used with a Commodore 64, but there are many options now for Mac or Windows computers and even iPad/iPhone etc.

It is in very good condition and plays/sounds well. There are a few little scratches here and there, a small part of the number 5 button has come off, and the transpose button is missing. Although the previous owner replaced this with a meticulously cutout piece of eraser and you can't really tell that it's not the real button. It certainly fooled me when I bought it many years ago and I never noticed! Would've been nice if he told me about that, but I've never needed the transpose button so I guess it doesn't matter much. I am telling you here about it here thought! You can see all of these things I've described in the photos. Other than those little things, it is in very nice shape."

SUPERBOOTH21 Safety First Edition Moved to September 2021

via SUPERBOOTH

"New date for SUPERBOOTH21

The decision has been made. The new date for the Safety First Edition of SUPERBOOTH21 is set for this summer, from September 15 to 18, 2021.

HerrSchneider: 'Even the greatest optimists must slowly acknowledge that the world will not be ready for larger, international gatherings in nine weeks now. That's why we've decided to move SUPERBOOTH21 to September.'

But if in the summer, then with really much outside! The organizers of the trade fair do not want to miss out on the opportunities offered by moving the event to the warm season. Thus, additional places in the outdoor area of the FEZ Berlin were included in the planning of the event.

At the new locations, Fuchsbau, Hüttendorf and the small forest behind the seaside stage, there will be outdoor exhibitors for the first time. All stations are connected by short walks and each offer a varied program of concerts and presentations on smaller stages, so that you don't have to miss the usual SUPERBOOTH festival feeling.

The open-air concept is intended to harmonize the usual relaxed atmosphere with the necessary safety measures in terms of distance and fresh air. For this purpose, half of the event space will be relocated to the spacious outdoor area. The exhibition areas inside the building will be reduced and thinned out in order to maintain the spatial distance between the participants and to avoid clusters of guests. Like the exhibition space, the guests will also be divided: For four hours each, in two groups of 500 people. This results in a moderate flow of visitors, who can experience the usual diverse selection of exhibitors in the reduced indoor area and then spend the rest of the day in the outdoor area, alternating with the second group.

In total, there are already several dozen confirmations from exhibitors who want to make their way to Berlin in September. Due to expected travel restrictions and existing planning obstacles, larger manufacturing teams directly postponed their participation to 2022. Likewise, it will not be possible for many overseas exhibitors to come to Berlin as early as the end of the summer. These will be offered alternative options for digital participation in the "Safety First Edition".

Ticket pre-sales will not start before May, as the current development of the health situation will of course continue to be monitored. The actual realization of the event is directly linked to the start of ticket sales in order to avoid costly refund processes.

SOOPERgrail
The first edition of the new fair for the celebration of the art of guitar building will take place next year. Then numerous exhibitors will present instruments from the acoustic and electric range, for testing, experiencing and discussing.
The focus will be on the practical use of the presented instruments, the communicative get-together and the inspiring exchange between users and passionate manufacturers.

sooperRADIO
The first radio show of the Superbooth team from Feb. 11 is archived for listening on the new homepage sooperRADIO.com. Studio guest Thomas Kircher - from SchneidersLaden - explains how to work with a modular synthesizer and Sacha Ketterlin answers questions about his production techniques. Andreas Schneider talks about his motivation to host SUPEBROOBTH21 and SOOPERgrail.

The next sooperRADIO is dated 08. April 2021."

New Lower West Side Studio CGS85 Serge Triple Wave Shaper

3 independent wave shapers can be used individually or combined to mutate incoming signals into something wonderful

For more information visit lowerwestsidestudio.com"

via Lower West Side Studio

"This module is Ken Stone’s variation on the 1973 Classic Serge Triple Wave Shaper module.

To quote the 1982 catalog: The Triple Wave Shaper (TWS) is a non-linear modifier which can transform a sawtooth wave into a sine wave. This module incorporates three independent wave shapers for modifying synthesizer waveforms or for processing signals from preamplified instruments. Although originally designed as a wave shaper for our early oscillators, this module has been found to be a excellent modifier of electronic and acoustic sounds, and is highly recommended for subtle timbrel modifications beyond the range of simple oscillator/filter patches.

Each of the 3 channels supports a signal input with an attenuator. There are 2 control voltage inputs and both AC and DC outputs.

A Join switch connects the outputs of channels 2 and 3 back into channel 1 for some bizarre wave shaping potential. Each individual output is still simultaneously available.

The CGS85 Serge Triple Wave Shaper comes in a 1U width.

The module operates at +/- 15V and comes with a MOTM style power connector. Included is an MOTM to Synthesizers.com power connector adapter."

via Lower West Side Studio

"The TLN-442 is a four pole low pass filter built around a Curtis Electromusic Specialties CEM 3320 chip. A built in mixer allows for three audio inputs. The filter frequency can be set using a panel mounted pot, a “one volt per octave” external control voltage, or via two external FM inputs with attenuators (one reversing). Filter resonance can be set using a panel mounted pot or an external control voltage with a reversing attenuator.

A four pole low pass filter built with a CEM 3320 was used in the Sequential Circuits Prophet Five (rev. 3) and Pro One synthesizers."

New Zlob Modular Miniatt v666 Overview by J.Soliday

video by Żłob Modular

"Here's a pretty in depth look at all the uses of the new powered Miniatt by Jason Soliday.

The new Miniatt can now: offset, attenuate, mute, level shift and actively mix for more info and specs

built:$50
kit:$35
pcb/panel:$15"

via Zlob Modular

"MiniAtt is a 2hp Dual Passive Attenuator, Offset Generator, Level Shifter, Mixer, and Mute Eurorack Module available as a Eurorack DIY Kit, PCB and Panel, or Built Module.

The newest 666 version(2021) can be powered and will provide Offset of 0-5V with nothing plugged into the “IN” for each channel controlled by each respective Potentiometer. The “Sum Out” will also be able to send out 0-10v~ volts depending on the setting of each Potentiometer. Both channels are normalled to the sum, so inserting a signal into an “OUT” will remove it from the “Sum Out.” Likewise, when inserting a cable into the IN it will remove the voltage normalization and act as a passive attenuator. In active mode the module can also be used to offset and level shift +5v to -5v signals to 0v to 5v(and other ranges in between) at the “Sum Out” with a waveform input on one channel and by using the normalled voltage offset from the other channel.

There will be signal loss at the “Sum Out” in passive mode. In active mode the “Sum Out” is buffered and there will be no signal loss. Great for cv or audio although the module ships with linear pots.

The new black and white pcb/panel is reversible meaning, one side is classic(first picture) and the other side is soulless(second picture).

The module should not be powered when the jumper is closed for passive mode."

Absolutely love the new noise engineerings algorithms on the microfreak"

Jam with two Erica Synths DB-01s: The Double DB March

video by Richard DeHove

"So I love the Erica Synths DB-01 so much I bought another one! But then I thought I'd better separate them a bit so got two cheap Joyo EQ units. What you hear in this jam is just the two DB-01s going through the EQ units and the delays. Left unit gets an EQ and the DuoTime; the right unit gets an EQ and the Rubberneck. There are no other instruments, no other processing, no limiting or compression, not even any volume changes applied in the DAW. Apart from cutting out some boring bits and errors what you see it what it is.

The left unit is on a very simple 16-step pattern with a synced LFO and put in drone mode. The right unit has an unsynced LFO and a 64-step pattern. From time to time I play the units manually in keyboard mode (which overrides the pattern), and a couple of times the right unit as an arpeggio.

Certainly it would be better with further processing and drums but I thought it more useful to leave it exactly as played where you can directly see the effect of all the knob movements. Sometimes a very slight movement can have a big effect. The sub-oscillator is especially quirky."

Simmons SDS6 and MODULARS

video by zack dagoba

"The Simmons SDS6 is an absolutely stunning rhythm sequencer from the 1983. It came out just after the introduction of the first Simmons drum kit the 1982 SDSV. It has a highly intuitive interface and can trigger up to 8 sounds, and be synced to incoming clock, so it makes it perfect for hooking up with modular gear. Here I am using it with the SDS200 (1984) and the Emu and Polyfusion modulars. You can chain patters together to create extremely long patters or songs, but here I'm just looping round one page (32 steps)"

DIY spill-proof dust cover for your hardware synthesisers

I think this cover doesn't look too bad and it's definitely less expensive and more eco-friendly than the plastic covers you can buy in stores."

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #106: Casio CZ-1 - Song 2

video by Christian's Sonic Spaces

Song 1 here

"This is the second song with the CZ-1. It's a 16 voice Phase Distortion synthesizer from the mid 80s. The only Casio Synth from the CZ series that featured velocity and aftertouch sensitivity.

I used for the recording the following FX chain: CZ-1 - Alesis Philtre - Digitech Obscura - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."

Perplex On: My Favorite Microfreak Patches (incl. Firmware 3.0)

video by Perplex On

"I revisited the #microfreak after he chilled on a shelf for some time. The recent firmware update introduced some nice new sound engines as well as new patches. I'd like to show you some of the patches I particularly enjoyed. Some of them are stock presets and some are modified ones or own creations. All in all I’m still intrigued by the sonic range the microfreak has to offer. Added a pinch of reverb and compression (Enventide Blackhole and FAC Maximizer on the iPad). Served with projection mappings to distract from my poor playing. Enjoy!"

It's not gold but at $25,231.12, it is cheaper than the 10th Anniversary Voyager. Curious about that extra $31.12.

Anyone confirm this? The SN appears to be 4711 K or 4711 KS. I forget if they add the S to the KS SNs.
