Oberheim Matrix 6 w/ Custom DIY Controller

via this auction

This one was spotted and sent in via M Me.

"The programmer (my own DIY) can control nearly all of the features on the M6, apart from the mod matrix, so it gives realtime control of most features, but there are some that are still slow due to the slow OS of the Matrix 6. It runs on 12V, and a power supply will be included. I will not sell the programmer separately, as I am sure I will be asked that question."

It definitely gives the Access Matrix-6 programmer a run for the money. This Stereoping controller is worth a look though.

"Two separate 4-note sequences, one Sine-Saw the other Sine-Square. Using the 281t to glitch and reset the sequences so they are ever shifting. Using the Planar 2 CV outs to bounce between the wave shapes. Enjoy"

Infinite Space - Modwave Space Ambient

video upload by Waveformer

"Live improvised Space Ambient on the Korg Modwave synthesizer. One single patch. Moving slowly from oscillator to oscillator, exploring wavetables and wave morphing. There are patch and jam notes as text overlays throughout the video.

My music on Bandcamp:

The audio is recorded to SD card on a Zoom R-16 mixer/recorder and normalized in Audacity. Video is recorded on a Canon EOS M50 mk2 with the included EF-M 15-45mm lens. Audio and video is synchronized in DaVinci Resolve 17."

Ambient jam w/ Soma Cosmos, Take 5, Polymoon, Marantz cassette tape piano, and guitar

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised track performed entirely on hardware.

A common feature of many of my songs is a sort of upward progression in dynamics; so here, I wanted to try to do something different, a soundscape that flowed from one palette to another, its feelings moving laterally instead of vertically. This approach was inspired by the Soma Cosmos and having the feedback (loop decay) set below 1.0, so that the loops gently cascade out over time and allow for new loops to take over. I love the effect. I love the Cosmos.

For audio fodder, I had recorded an improv piano piece the night before to cassette tape, and found myself using it for more than just notes/snippets, instead following its chord progression at the end here. For live sound generation, I used the Take 5—I really love the warm pads it can do—and a baritone guitar through compression, reverb, and an amp simulator. Switching the Cosmos off and on, I let the guitar take the lead in the first section, and the piano and synth in the second, with the instruments switching roles into the loop. I love that the Cosmos's on/off is silent!

Thanks for listening.

ALM Squid Salmple - Firmware Update 185 - New Features

video upload by ALM TV

"The Squid Salmple now includes the ability to reassign the 'Chan' input to control one of several different global functions, including: choking all channels, ‘punching in’ cues during recording, loading the next bank, resetting all cue steps, and resetting all steps sequences. (To assign hold ‘Func’ + Press the ‘Chan’ & ‘USB’ buttons.)

Additionally, a new 'Steps' option has been added under each channel's 'Env' page, allowing for polyphonic round robin triggering of a select range of channels.

In this video we build a simple patch for each of the new additions to explore their musical applications.

John Bowen Solaris - White Model

via this auction

"Solaris Digital Modular Synthesizer - Overview We're on a mission...

From the beginning, the singular mission for Solaris has been to create nothing less than John Bowen's personal vision of the ultimate, dream-come-true synthesizer. A vision that draws upon more than three decades of experience in synthesizer design with legends like Moog Music, Sequential Circuits, the Korg Wavestation series and renowned software synthesizers for the original Korg OASYS and Creamware Scope platforms. And it's a vision to create a truly musical instrument masterpiece that is shared with some of the world's foremost synthesizer connoisseurs like film composer Hans Zimmer who is renowned for always seeking the utmost in sound creation capabilities.

OK, so what's the big idea?
The general concept behind the Solaris synthesizer is to implement something like a giant wall-sized modular system entirely in software where you can select among several completely different types of oscillators and filters, exquisitely modelled after the components culled from a variety of legendary vintage synthesizers of yesteryear and even some current virtual analog innovations of today. With up to four oscillators, four filters, four amplifiers, four four-input mixers, six envelope generators, one looping envelope generator, five LFOs, two vector mixers and still more of these software modules available in each program, the Solaris synthesizer becomes absolutely unrivalled in terms of versatility and programmability.

Aren't modular systems a complete pain to use with all those wires though?
The real wonder of the Solaris synthesizer is in how easy it is to accomplish all the routing, patching and programming of all these modules together. This is largely due to the abundant control surface of six LCD displays plus myriad knobs and buttons, and the exceptional way that they have been laid out to facilitate You'll be amazed and delighted at both the efficiency of the workflow and the wealth of feedback provided with the Solaris synthesizer for even the most complex of program configurations (and not a single patch cable in sight)!

With so much going on, what is the polyphony?
Even with a complex program utilizing all four oscillators, four filters, four mixers and healthy doses of modulation, you can still expect 10 note polyphony! This is because the powerplant inside the Solaris synthesizer that actually runs the software code consists of six third-generation SHARC DSP processors. Internally, all operations are 32-bit floating point and audio signals and busses run at 96 kHz for pristine audio quality.

Whether you are a synthesizer veteran looking for a modern musical instrument that lets you relive the majestic tones of legendary analog synthesizers or you are a sound designer exploring new sonic realms for games, film, stage or other media, we're confident that the unique and unlimited sound creation capabilities of the Solaris will be the synthesizer that lets you cut through all the clatter and instantly raises you up above the competitition. Now, isn't it time you got your hands on the Solaris synthesizer?"

The history of the Roland Alpha Juno, rave hoover sound and techno stabs.

Cosmotronic Peradam eurorack overdrive

video upload by John Schussler

"The Peradam is an overdrive module with a unique architecture: rather than just overdriving the signal into a square wave, it makes a copy of the source audio and then manipulates it to modulate the original signal.

If you really want to understand how it works, the architecture diagram in the manual is probably your best bet. tl;dr: it's complicated.

But you don't have to understand how it works to move the knobs and sliders and get interesting results. That's basically what this video is: me moving around knobs and sliders to get a basic feel for what kind of sounds the module makes.
