Curious if that's MOOGSPIRIT printed on the box below. It was designed by Bob Moog but the synth does not have his name on it, so it would be interesting if it was on the box. It could be MONO but what's left doesn't look like an N to me. If it is MOOG there's no space between it and SPIRIT. I believe this is the first post to feature the box.

Details from the listing:
"Not only is this a super rare synth (Serial number: 011) designed by Bob Moog, this particular unit was purchased new directly from the Crumar booth at the 1983 NAMM Show here in Chicago. The original buyer has kept it safely stored for the last 40 years, never used! Guaranteed you will NEVER find a cleaner example of this rare synthesizer.

Our service department have performed a fresh recap on this as the originals dried out after years of sitting in storage. The synth functions wonderfully, like new as you would imagine.

Includes the original box with evidence of being express shipped from Italy to the NAMM show. In addition to the original manual, warranty paperwork, cables and carrying case and pouch."

How Many Tom Oberheim TVS PROs Were Released?

I was curious how many were released after this Special Edition Two Voice PRO listing, so I reached out to the man himself, Tom Oberheim.

So how many were produced?

According to Tom:

"I looked thru my records and this is the official count on the two versions of the TVS-PRO:

1. Regular production from early 2015 thru April 2018 - 365 units beige & black

2. Special Edition during spring of 2021 - 9 units sold thru a lottery system"

And there you have it.

That means there are only 374 TVS PRO models in existence. Just over 100 of the 365 are the all black model, making the beige count somewhere under 265 units.

The three pics here are from Tom Oberheim's Product History page.

Sequential Prophet 5 rev4 - Factory Presets Demo (Sounds Only)

video upload by wolfgang S vukan

"So... this is THE LEGEND - new version (rev4) of the first polyphonic synth with preset memories - The PROPHET-5!

What to say... so many old and new records were recorded with this synth, it's created by synth pioneer Dave Smith (who created MIDI too) and it sounds spectacular. I just try to imagine how people reacted to this synth back in 1977.! It's amazing.

I was so interested in how VINTAGE knob react when you change Prophet-5's revision modes (from rev1 to rev4) - it's really interesting and sounds different. In rev1 mode P5 sounds more archaic with, fex., slightly different decay on keys - this remind me that my Jupiter 4 (1978) reacted at the same way.

All sounds are recorded directly from Prophet-5 to Tascam DR-05x recorder in 24bit/96kHz resolution, without any FX processing.

Thanx to Marko Milosavljević and Audio Pro Artist (Beograd, Srbija), official Sequential importer for Serbia and for this synth presentation."

Novation Summit - A playing attempt at Brian Crain's "Imagining"

video uploads by eM

Playlist:
Novation Summit - A playing attempt at Brian Crain's "Imagining"
One of my favorite piano artists Brian Crain, his song 'Imagining' attempting to play it. IIt definitely takes some muscle memory, but I love this song, love to hear it sound on the Summit.
Novation Summit - "Morning Stroll" SM Plucked Keys
Took a walk outside with the family in our new neighborhood... beautiful sunny day. Much to be thankful for. a short inspirational piece from that played here. I hope wherever you are you will find an enjoyable stroll for yourself.
Novation Summit - SM Plucked Keys (Orano patch) - "Pirate's Beach"
Could pass for a guitar sound, do you think? Credit to Orano's patch again, some reverb from the flashback and hall of fame, subtle reverb and delay on the Summit, I know I know.. why not just use one or the other. Well, it's convenient to alternate, the HoF and FB pedals are primarily not adjusted as it's also sent thru my mixer as an FX channel for other instruments. Enjoy.
Novation Summit - "Aisle" - Multi Mode - 1. SM 5th Sense 2. Sm Who's Afraid (Orano's single patches)
Credit to Orano's Novation Summit single patches, I split them in multi mode, as you'll usually see me do. In this improvisation I'm playing with the delay timing effects on the #2 patch while playing pad on the #1. The onboard delay and reverb effects gives instant breaths for your creative atmospheres.
Novation Summit - "Crystal Falls" Multi Setting (SM Leviathan and SM Popcorn Arp)
Patch creation credit to Orano Music @ https://www.orano.co.uk/shop. Just having fun with blending his patches, very lush and enjoyable, highly recommended!
Novation Summit - SM Leviathan (patch Created by Orano Music)
This patch (along with many others) was created by Orano Music
Novation Summit - "Legendary Keys" - Solo Piano - Multi Mode
I like taking the same single patch and splitting them between both the A and B sections. There are a few minor tweaks between the two sections of course, the A section I'll use for solo piano playing with some slight filter manipulations while the B section is mainly conducting the arp in the play tick on the arp knob, this basically follows the key strokes and does a catch up, so to say, as there is also delay and feedback being added for dynamic effect. I like being able to create an immersivity effect to keep me going in my solo playing. The Summit never fails to conveniently produce this very basic task.

Since OBS has fixed their NDI plugin, it's less work around for me to set up these recordings again. Thanks for listening. appreciate any comments or tips for solo piano playing and any other recommendations to help me along this Summit playing journey.

video upload by Joseph McGinty

"A short demonstration of the 360 Systems Digital Keyboard currently for sale on Reverb."

via this auction

"Extremely rare 360 Systems Digital Keyboard. This was the first sample playback instrument and intended to be a "digital Mellotron". It has a warmth and character all it's own.

These instruments are super rare. Less than 200 were made. This one includes MIDI which wasn't standard back in the day. The keyboard is a little sticky, but all keys work. I've been using MIDI to control it.

Check out the YouTube video for a demonstration of the keyboard and the sounds included.

The instrument is heavy and delicate, so shipping is not an option. Local pickup is in Brooklyn, NY.

Apparently the 360 was used for the sax sound on "Gold Digger" by Kanye.

Here are the internal presets:

1 Piano
2 Strings
3 Low Strings
4 Oboe
5 Marimba
6 Tympani
7 Guitar
8 Dist Guitar

11 Flute

Shamballah (K7) Recording in SANYO KBX-7 WIRELESS SYNTHESIZER KEYBOARD RADIO CASSETTE 80'S

video upload by AMYR VON BATHEL CANTUSIO JR ALPHA III PROJECT

"SANYO KBX-7 WIRELESS SYNTHESIZER KEYBOARD RADIO CASSETTE 80'S VINTAGE (Curiosities)
MUSIC BY AMYR CANTUSIO JR( 1990) Kanx K7(cassete tape)
Music I produced, recorded in K7 on this device. I already had one. The little keyboard separates from the radio but the sound is WIRELESS (ie the keyboard itself has no sound output, but comes out via "remote" through the radio speakers ) bluetooth type.
Radio sound is fantastic and above all, the Keyboard records audio in K7 (cassette tape) with great definition!
With the Audio output of the Headphones vc. you can plug in an amplifier and use the Keyboard signals for a P.A. with great possibilities. The keyboard is not a wave synthesizer, but similar to Casio Portátil with K7 recorder."

Note this is the first post to feature the SANYO KBX-7. I found the following pics of a white one on eBay.

707 (Korg 707)

"Here’s a song I made with the Korg 707 from 1987. The Korg 707 is a digital FM synthesizer with 8 voices of polyphony.

”707” by The William Salmela Project

No other sound sources were used. The Korg 707 doesn’t have any built in effects, so the sound was further processed with the following equipment:
Boss CE-300 Super Chorus
EHX Small Stone phaser
Korg SDD-1200 (used this heavily for chorusing the sounds)
Roland SDE-2000 delay
TC-Electronic Powercore reverbs"

"Some great analog sound from one of the last vintage analogs. It's the Akai VX-90 from year 1986, a synth with true VCOs. All sounds are from the VX-90. Some external effects were also used but mainly on the delay department.

Effects:
Korg SDD-1200 (delay, chorus)
Roland SDE-2000, delay
Roland RS-505, chorus

Lots of nice vintage stuff used in the piece:
Keio Donca Matic - Mini Pops
Korg EX-800
Korg Delta
Korg Sigma
Moog Etherwave Theremin
Micromoog
Yamaha CS-15D
(and a sampled 12-string acoustic guitar)

There's some outboard effects also, like EHX Deluxe Electric Mistress, Stereo Clone Theory, Small Clone and Roland SDE-2000 (the only digital unit here, but hey, it's vintage too).

Sadly I don't have any of these instruments anymore...

Some very nice pieces of vintage kit was used in the piece (along with a few digital things):
Keio DoncaMatic MiniPops (Boss RPD-10, EHX Small Stone)
Korg Delta (Boss KM-60, Boss RPD-10, Joemeek mc2)
Korg MiniPops 7 sampled

Ultimate Vintage String Synth Comparison

video upload by WilliamSalmela

"The Ultimate String Synth Comparison.
I’ve got my hands on some of the best stringers ever and decided to give you a little side by side comparison. I played three different excerpts with seven different string synths - ”Basic strings”, ”Full strings” and ”Dark strings”. You can easily compare the sound character of each synth.
The first two excerpts are pretty straightfoward, but the ”dark strings” involved a little bit more sound design to see if the synths can be pushed to produce more mellow kind of pad sounds straight out of the instrument.

The samples are not complete dry but they all have the same amount of delay and reverb.
The instruments are (in the order of the audio track) as follows:
-Korg Delta
-Korg Trident (mk1)
-Korg Lambda
-Roland RS-505 Paraphonic
-Arp Solina SE-II by Eminent
-Roland RS-09 Organ/Strings
-Waldorf Streichfett

Unfortunately I couldn’t include the Yamaha SK-20 here because I sold it before recording these. It has quite a unique sound character among these vintage stringers. Of course there are other string synths too, but I never owned them.

The Streichfett is the only modern and digital instrument here and it shows, in a bad way - it sounds flat, lifeless and characterless in comparison. The notes don’t blend well within a chord and the root notes dominate the balance in a nasty way. I’d pick any analog stringer over it in a heartbeat.

My personal ranking list for these instruments would be as follows:
1. Korg Trident
2. Roland RS-505
3. Korg Lambda
4. Korg Delta, Roland RS-09, Arp Solina
x- Waldorf Streichfett

My opinion is based on knowing the instruments and not only based on these sound clips."

Farewell Trident (Korg Trident Mk I)

video upload by WilliamSalmela

"I did something I thought I never would - sold my Korg Trident synthesizer. I had only a few days to compose a farewell song with that fantastic synth. And this is what I came up with.
'Farewell Trident' by The William Salmela Project.

All sounds are from the Korg Trident Mk I, a synth that was released in 1980. It’s a mighty 8 voice polysynth with 2 VCOs per voice. It has separate synth, brass and string sections that can be layered and played at the same time. For the strings there’s an ensemble effect and on top of all this there’s even an onboard flanger. In this song only additional reverbs and delays are used to effect the sound. The synth was installed with MIDI and it was multitracked in Logic Pro.

Show me a modern piece of kit that sounds like this and I’ll buy it."

Synthetic Ensemble (Yamaha SK-20)

video upload by WilliamSalmela

"The William Salmela Project: Synthetic (Analogue), Synthetic Ensemble

All sounds are from a Yamaha SK-20 synthesizer. Additional effects were used.
Video footage from actual recording session.

The SK-20 is my first analog synth and I have used it a lot for it's good sound. The synth is kind of versatile while not very deep programming-wise. There are organ, synthesizer and a very limited string-synth sections. Nice basic sounds are available but not any fancy modulation-stuff is possible. I had to make this piece before selling the synth - it has served me well on many albums. The piece is not the most original composition but it's good stuff anyway - and it sounds lovely analogue!

Effects:

Chorus: Boss RCE-10

Phaser: EHX Small Stone, Roland Phase II AP-2

Delay: Roland SDE-2000, Delay Designer (Logic)

TC-Electronic (Powercore) ClassicVerb, VSS3

Cosmo Synth (Casio CZ-3000)

video upload by WilliamSalmela

"The William Salmela Project: Synthetic (Digital), Cosmo Synth
All sounds are from a Casio CZ-3000 synthesizer. Additional effects were used.

I was in a hurry to produce this piece because I sold the synth and hadn't used it in anything yet. While making the piece I began to be a bit fond of the sound of the Casio CZ synth. The overall sound quality is obviously somewhat lo-fi, but it still can deliver surprisingly wonderful sounds. The phase-distortion synthesis of the CZ-series makes quite a variety of sounds possible and it can even produce some analog style stuff. The raw sound of the CZ isn't just as meaty as analogs and the bottom end is pretty weak, but it makes sounds that are difficult or not possible at all with analog synths.

Effects:
Chorus: Boss RCE-10, EHX Small Clone
Phaser: MXR Phase 100
Delay: Roland SDE-2000
TC-Electronic (Powercore) EQsat
Reverb: DVR2, VSS3

"BLEASS Fusion is a unique and powerful waveshaping tool that harnesses the limitless flexibility of wavetables to unleash sumptuously smooth saturations, disgracefully dirty distortions, and maximally mad mashups.

BLEASS has designed Fusion to be one of the – if not the – most versatile and adaptable distortion and saturation plugins available today, able to completely change its entire tone and character in an instant. The magic comes from the way in which wavetables define the sonic results of processing, and so empower the plugin with the versatility to satisfy your every sonically-destructive whim.

Whether you want to spice-up your audio with the lightest sprinkle of sizzle, smother it in a luxuriant fluffy blanket, or shatter it into fractured shards, BLEASS Fusion provides the perfect waveshaping weaponry for the job. And should you find that the 58 included wavetables don’t quite fulfil your distortion dreams, importing your own custom wavetables is simply a matter of dropping a file into a folder.

A pair of multi-mode resonant filters allow BLEASS Fusion to focus its fury on particular frequencies, or can be used to tame its more extreme excesses. And with a full complement of modulators that add movement and dynamism to your sound, a huge palette of expressive, rhythmic and evolving distortions are just waiting to be explored."
