DX5 playing Visage "Fade to Grey" (With added Simmons Drums)

video upload by DX5

"Updating an instrumental cover I had already recorded over a decade ago, in this case adding a Simmons tom at the end of the song as on the original version.

Gear used live:
Upper Left: Roland MRS-2 Promars.
Mid left: Roland JP8000
Upper right: Simmons SDS 8 analogue drum module (Note: the pad is not Simmons)
Bottom right: Roland D-10

Backtrack previously sequenced and recorded, instrument by instrument, by me, including a DX7 bassline.

Original song composed by Billy Currie, Christopher Payne, Midge Ure (I would add Steve Harrington, Rusty Egan and Richard James Burgess by their contribution too).

Performed here by DX5 Jose Maria Bara."

The Comper - A Musical Gate Sequencer for Chords and Bass

video upload by NOH-modular

- CHAPTERS -
0:00 - Intro
0:30 - Overview
5:40 - D&B demo
7:13 - Time Signatures
11:27 - Clock Resolution
12:49 - Outro

"The NOH Modular Comper is a eurorack gate sequencer module for chord accompaniment. Play a gate sequence from a bank of widely used jazz, bossa nova, and pop chord patterns. Patterns range from Swing to straight 8th notes, and are selectable in three time signatures (4/4, 7/8, 3/4). Add a groovy humanized bass that is dependent on the genre of the chord pattern, and perform with randomness for generative music (or lucky musicians). Additional outputs are meter and 8th notes.

This video shows the step-by-step patch on a modular system to set-up the Comper and compose fast but musical chord sequences using the chord and bass gate outputs taken from the module.

The Comper will be available to buy very soon ! :)"

Adventures in Thyme! - Episode 2 - Transforming Ambience and Drones with the Bastl Thyme+

video upload by Oscillator Sink

Adventures in Thyme!

"It's time for episode 2 of ADVENTURES IN THYME! A short series on the channel where we'll be exploring Bastl's stereo digital tape loop machine through a few different lenses. In this episode we take a look at how we can use Thyme+ to completely transform, re-contextualize and animate a drone (coming from the Crows Electromusic Ovum).

Transparency Notice: Bastl kindly provided the Thyme+ to me for free for the purposes of making video on it. I wasn't otherwise paid, and they have not asked for, nor have they been given any editorial oversight of the content I create."

Pimp My Mono

video upload by Cylob Sonic Research

"The Macbeth Micromac-D is a boutique analogue synth from 2013. It has a three oscillator design, and I think it sounds lovely. There’s just one problem. It can only play one measly note at a time! But what if it were possible to play this synth with unlimited polyphony, in real time? Let's find out!
----------
00:00 Introduction, Micromac sound demos
02:02 Technique explanation
03:51 First listen
06:27 Patch parameters
10:13 Multistage envelopes
14:03 Jam 1
18:49 Jam 2
19:52 Jam 3
23:26 Discrete MIDI notes
----------
Some additional information:

The explanation of the first patch was simplified. There are a couple of issues to contend with when generating polyphonic parts from a monosynth. There isn’t just one buffer in use, rather multiple in action. Every note on rotates the buffer to be recorded into. This allows the notes of the previous chord to die away while the next chord starts to play, if the playback speed for those previous notes still leaves some signal to be played.

Another issue has to do with recording. A new note on should kill recording into the previous buffer. Otherwise, the notes of the previous chord still in action will start playing a recording of the new note on. I made this selectable in the first patch, because the effect may be desirable from an aesthetic viewpoint.

One more consideration when using an analogue synth controlled with CV and gate as the sound source. If notes are already being held down when the source synth is retriggered, the gate will remain high. As a result, the envelope will not restart. Therefore it’s best to use an envelope generator which is able to be retriggered, like the Intellijel Dual ADSR. That way, every new incoming note will retrigger the envelope.

One last thing: neither version of the patch compensates for audio latency, which means that lower notes are a little late to start."

One of my favorite tracks from the 80s.
Somebody`s Watching Me by Rockwell
Produced by Curtis Anthony Nolen and Rockwell, Motown Records (1983)

featured the Moog Prodigy (1979)

This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks.
My intention is not to create covers that sound exactly like the original (if you want to hear identical sounds, please listen the original). It's more of an inspiration with my sounds from the old synthesizers from the past and of course the great appreciation for the original performers and producers.
Check out the original songs with the original artists here on YouTube.
Thank you."

Dave Smith Instruments Pro-2 soundscape - What is upon us

video upload by MIDERA

"It's sort of a response to the Moog Matriarch soundscape I posted yesterday. They're fairly similar synths - and I have a lot of things to say about that, but I'll save it for another time."

Update: MIDERA initially reported an issue with the cutoff knob: "After playing around with the Pro-2 more, I discovered that Filter 2 wouldn't close properly (it actually went down then back up again as I went counterclockwise, and I know it shouldn't do that in LP mode). I contacted Sequential and they just said to send it in."

The video has been updated with: "I had an issue with my Pro-2. Sequential reached out and it was resolved."

We – Erica Synths and Moritz Klein – have developed a series of educational DIY kits under the brand name mki x es.EDU with one specific goal in mind: to teach people with little-to-no prior experience how to design analog synthesizer circuits from scratch. What you’ll find in the box is not simply meant to be soldered together and then disappear in your rack. Instead, we want to take you through the circuit design process step by step, explaining every choice we’ve made and how it impacts the finished module.

NB! All kits in these series are simple and come with extensive user manuals which can be downloaded separately, therefore we will not provide customer support in case your DIY build fails to function or similar."

Behringer Working on PRO-16 - 16 Voice Prophet-5

via Behringer

"Designing the PRO-16: The 16-Voice Revolution

We are excited to share an update and achievement with you: the recreation of the iconic Prophet 5, but with a twist – our version boasts 16 voices and many new features that push the boundaries of what's possible in a synthesizer.

Recreating this synthesizer was no small feat. The engineering work involved is extraordinarily complex, requiring meticulous attention to detail and precision. Our team of engineers had to navigate the intricacies of integrating thousands of components to stay true to the original sound while adding modern capabilities.

One of the most challenging aspects of this project was the development of an 8-layer printed circuit board (PCB). For those unfamiliar, a PCB is essentially the backbone of any electronic device, housing all the components and ensuring they work together seamlessly. An 8-layer board means there are eight layers of circuitry stacked within a single board, allowing us to pack more functionality into a compact space. This complexity is necessary to manage the increased number of voices and new features while maintaining signal integrity and reducing noise.

The result is a synthesizer that not only honors the legacy of the original, but also enhances it with 16 voices, offering unparalleled polyphony and richness. This modern version includes:

- Multi-mode filters. Providing a wide range of tonal possibilities.

- 8-mode atrophy settings: Allowing for extensive modulation and sound-shaping capabilities.

- Poly aftertouch key bed: Delivering expressive and dynamic playability, making it a dream to play.

These advanced features make the new PRO-16 a powerhouse for today’s musicians, blending the classic sound with cutting-edge technology.

We are incredibly proud of this achievement and can't wait for you to experience the new PRO-16."

This week’s kit is a bit more aggressive and higher pitched. There are no external effects, just the DRM1 MKIV. Headphones are recommended!"
