Introducing Samarkanda 1953 Resampling Delay Performance Station by Xaoc Devices

video upload by Xaoc Devices

"Meet the lovely Samarkanda - a monster of a delay with unlimited potential

Xaoc Devices Samarkanda is a digital quad delay module with extensive patching capabilities and a lot of flexibility for signal mangling. It can be used as four entirely independent delays, a dual stereo delay, a complex/multi-tap or multi-channel delay, a quad/polyphonic resonator, a dual chorus, a dual flanger reverb, a looper (with sound on sound!), and a granulator, or any combination of those. You can reverse the delayed signal, hold it, squeeze and stretch it beyond all recognition and still go back to the original piece of audio captured in the buffer! The internal lossless normalization (the signal doesn't leave the digital domain) combined with top-notch components (including 24-bit AKM converters and 32-bit internal processing) are responsible for high sound quality. Samarkanda has been conceived in the truly modular spirit. Not only can you control almost all its features remotely with CV/gates, but the external feedback path gives you the opportunity to process the delayed signal with other modules.

Samarkanda offers a wide range of delay times beginning at a mere 0.5ms and reaching up to 15 seconds per channel. That means that, by stacking its four channels, you can achieve up to one minute delay! There are two operating modes switchable individually for each channel. Analog delivers pitch changes that resemble classic analog tape and BBD delays. When you combine it with the looping Hold function, you can play Samarkanda with any 1v/octave CV source - using the Sync function you can even loop single wave cycles. The Digital mode gives you a granular buffer-scrubbing effect (no pitch change) across the whole delay time range. You can seamlessly switch back and forth between modes without losing any information. You can use Samarkanda for multiple tasks at the same time - from four independent delay lines through any combination of channels processing the same signal up to a quad behemoth. You can also use the linking feature for ease of operation (the first channel in the chain acts as the main control source for the others).

As most settings operate on a per-channel basis, you can freely combine different features (such as analog/digital behaviour, delay time range, reverse and hold functions, etc.) in a configuration of your choosing. You can synchronize each of its channels separately to a different source, either via the Sync input, or by using the tap-tempo functionality (with multiplication and division galore). Should you ever get lost, the Purge button comes in handy when/if things start to spiral out of control!

Notable features:
Quadruple resampling delay
Lossless chaining of sections
Delay range of 0.5ms to 15 seconds per channel for a total of 60 seconds when stacked
Analog (tape-like) and digital (granular) sweep behaviours
Continuous, synced, and tap-tempo operation
Clock division and multiplication from 1:8 to 8:1
Buffer freezing and 1V/oct loop playback control
Reverse delay effect
Multiple options for coupling channels

width 42HP
depth 40mm (including cable bracket)
+230mA/-90mA

PRICE: 620 EUR MSRP, available now!"

GS Music Bree6 Synthesizer - LSPXPO 2025

video upload by sonicstate

"On a gentler Sunday morning at the show, Nick caught up with Paul who showed us the GS Music Bree6 synthesizer. Those familiar with the E7 will find the Bree6's layout and features familiar, though with some notable differences. This 6-voice polyphonic synthesizer houses one oscillator per voice, complemented by a sub-oscillator. Unlike its predecessor, it offers a more streamlined approach with one LFO instead of three. The Bree6 retains its analog roots but incorporates digital effects such as chorus and delay to enhance its sonic palette.

The Bree6 also features a 4-pole ladder filter with a 24dB/octave slope and two envelopes, offering you a broad range of sound sculpting options. It provides stereo voice panning, which adds depth, possibly enhanced by the delay. With eight banks of presets and a user-friendly interface, it's a straightforward option for those starting with polyphonic synthesis.

Folktronica w/ OP-1 field, Prophet-10, microKORG S | Falling Feather 2025-03-24

video upload by atnr

"A piece created using the OP‑1 field, Prophet‑10, microKORG S, and Music Easel. A looped classical guitar pattern blends with synth melodies and abstract textures.

On the OP‑1 field, I record and loop harmony and melody parts played on classical guitar.

On the microKORG S, I perform with a slow‑attack patch while manipulating the filter, routing the output through SPECULAR TEMPUS for delay.

On the Prophet‑10, I play two different melodies with a subtle layer of reverb from blueSky.

On the Music Easel, I generate fine‑grained sounds as random percussion without syncing to a specific BPM—aiming for a sound that sits between effect and percussion.

Thank you for watching! If you enjoyed this piece, please subscribe and give it a thumbs up. Be sure to explore more works in the Daily Sound Experiment playlist."

Using the S2 Wavetable card on the MIDI/80 to create some surreal backing tracks, complimented with the Orchestra-90 through some wild pedals."

"The MIDI/80 Tracker program got much more feature-complete in recent weeks! By now, it not only allows sequencing of drum patterns, but of arbitrary monophonic MIDI instrument tracks (e.g., for bass, melodies, arpeggios etc.) With 6 tracks, it is polyphonic and multi-timbral, and can now support creation of entire songs. Whereas the first Tracker only offered one pattern, the new Tracker 1.95 can now manage up to 26 individual patterns, named 'A' to 'Z'. The workflow allows for pattern copying, i.e., to enable a musician to quickly make variations to a pattern simply by copying it and modifying bit and pieces. Moreover, each pattern has it's own settings, like tempo, number of bars, and on a per-track-basis, MIDI channel, MIDI instrument, and MIDI velocity. Like in a traditional arpeggiator, a GATE DURATION parameter determines the duration of the notes. Gate Duration can be configured on a per-track-per-pattern-basis as well. Most importantly, the new Tracker now features a "Song Mode" which allows for pattern chaining! A song can have up to 64 (pattern) entries - it is simply denoted as a string of pattern designators (like "ABBACAB*", where "*" means loop the song, and "." ends it). Moreover, real-time tracking is not only supported via the TRS-80 keyboard, but also over a MIDI keyboard connected to the MIDI DIN IN socket of the MIDI/80 card. MIDI notes can be quantized in realtime. MIDI/80 project member "DOWNPOLY" is now using this enhanced Tracker and the new Song Mode of the program to create much more complex backing tracks for his stunning Orchestra Sound Card Live Performances. The Orchestra Organ program by George Phillips is used as the solo / lead instrument, and MIDI/80 + Tracker is doing the background tracks.

As usual, the updated software can be found on the Github and can be downloaded free of charge: https://github.com/lambdamikel/MIDI-80"

Kawai SX-240 soundscape V - Gone away

video upload by MIDERA

"Tonight, my daughter called for me after I put her to bed. It's unusual that she calls for me now as she's gotten older. I used to find it so irritating to get these calls, sometimes 3-4 times a night ("Papaaaaaaaaaa... uhm, I love you"). Now it seems to happen once every few months and is usually something more serious (at least to her), so I run up. She's sitting up in bed telling me about how she was terrified I had "gone away." I think she was just afraid I was going to die (of course, we all are going to some day), but it was hard to get that out of her. Usually the harder days are the days she has the most fun, I guess (maybe creating a lot of memories?). I know we're slowly descending into fewer and fewer days to be together, fewer chances to snuggle before bed, to tell 'Kwazii stories.'

I did tell her that some day I will die - and that I hope that day comes long before her time comes. That I won't be feeling anything when I'm gone, and that I would be happier if it were me and not her. That, of course, didn't really make her feel much better. Me staring at her boogery nose and making a face did. She started giggling, and I knew I had cracked the sadness, which faded, and we could say our good nights.

If you remember me saying the other day I had a financial problem - well, it was that I plugged the Kawai SX-240 back in to play it and it was dead. Nothing would happen. I was miserable, because I was planning to sell it and of course it would die before I could! Well, I managed to fix it. If you ever look up the service manual for this thing, it's horrible. I didn't realize how bad it was until I messaged Bob Grieb about his Tauntek eprom update (thinking maybe a bad eprom was the problem). He said it wasn't likely the problem, but sent me his version of the service manual and you can actually see the traces on it (the online version is so bad it didn't even pick up half the traces!). From there, I could see there was a bad solder joint between Pin 3 of the EPROM (I was right, something was wrong with the EPROM!) and Pin 2 of an adjacent IC. And - well, I brought it back to life. Another successful repair.

Talking Bass | “Dream Weaver” by Gary Wright

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"Let's break down the iconic synthesizer bass sound from Gary Wright’s iconic song "Dream Weaver". I’ll show you exactly how to recreate that unique, "talking" bass tone that happens in one of the most memorable chorus sections in synth history. I’ll also dive into how to adjust the sustain portion of the bass sound, for the variation that happens in the bridge—it's subtle but makes a huge difference in the overall vibe.

I had the pleasure of working with Gary one unforgettable summer—collaborating on a song for a movie and a couple of tracks for one of his albums. He was not only a gifted singer and songwriter but also an incredibly innovative electronic musician. Gary had a special kind of energy that made every session inspiring. I’m honored to share a bit of that magic form this wonderful person with you today.

Let’s dive in and give this classic bass sound the spotlight it deserves."

Transistor synthesizer 7: Putting it all together and finish the build

video upload by organfairy

"I play the finished instrument at 3:55

So now the time has come to make use of the six synthesizer sections I have made in the past six videos and make one playable instrument out of them.
I did make some small changes to some of the sections to make them work better together and finally I made a symmetric power supply that I, just to keep the theme of this build, also based on transistors.

The music is a little romantic/relaxing/boring piece I made on my Technics SX-C600 organ and Roland SH-2000 synthesizer."

Emute uSeq - Live Coding & Modular Mashup - LSPXPO 2025

video upload by sonicstate

"Emute Lab Instruments is a new project, based at the University of Sussex, and coming out of the Experimental Music Technologies Lab research group.

Nick spoke to Dimitris about their first creation, the uSeq module, which bridges live coding and modular synthesis.

Rather than relying on laptops, uSeq uses a Raspberry Pi Pico to handle code expressions, translating them into control voltage (CV) and gate signals. Its design emphasizes accessibility, featuring an open-source platform that's DIY and budget-friendly.

The module has three CV and three gate outputs, coupled with a user-friendly coding language called *ModuLisp*. This setup allows you to manage multiple code patches and switch between them using onboard controls. Aiming to move beyond traditional code interaction, Dimitris is exploring vocal control methods, aligning with live coding's evolving narrative.

Available both as a DIY kit and a ready-made module"

via Emute Lab Instruments

"uSEQ is a eurorack module that brings livecoding into your modular system. Fundamentally, it’s an extremely flexible voltage generator and processor. It has a set of CV and pulse inputs and outputs, but instead of having a fixed set of controls and functions, you can choose how voltages are generated by livecoding them. This means that you can control uSEQ’s behaviour with the vast possibilities of creative coding, using a simplified programming language specialised for music. uSEQ is great for sequencing, waveform generation, and waveform processing. You can use it as a live performance tool, or configure it for specific functions.

To use uSEQ, hook up a computer via the USB port, load up the editor in your browser and start playing."

This prototype featured nine oscillators organized into three banks with a hybrid analog-digital synthesis design, aimed at creating dynamic sounds. Chris explained the module's CV-controllable parameters, including pitch, spread, and octave control, designed for rich tonal diversity. An integrated wave-shaping and overdrive circuit added depth and distortion, with LEDs indicating the overdrive status.

It should be available soon through Signal Sounds and Thonk.
