Sometimes Things Get Modular

video upload by John L Rice

"Again another test, this time after I swapped in the Squarp Rample module into this custom “pedalboard 4ms Pod” system. Playing around with it bands like Kraftwerk, Yello, and Deadmau5 came to mind so I quickly added the vocal for fun. 😊 (Deadmau5 has a song called “Sometimes Things Get Complicated”)

Modules used:
Noise Engineering - Bin Seq
Rebel Technology - CLK and Chronos MkII
Squarp Instruments - Rample
Erica Synths - Black Stereo Mixer v2 and Black Hole DSP
4ms - Listen Four 1/4 and several Pod cases
Haken - ContinuuMini

Superbooth 2023: 4ms - Looping Delay - Sampler

video upload by sonicstate

"We met with Dan from 4MS who introduced us to two new low-cost modules, Looping Delay and Sampler. Sampler is a sample playback and recording device with a simple interface. Users can change the pitch, length, and start position of samples, making it possible to create granular-type patches. The device can play backwards and record from stereo input to stereo output. The device includes an SD card with a few hundred samples, and users can create up to ten sample banks. The device also has a CV for bank trigger sample, end out reverse, and pitch knob.

Looping Delay which would pair well with Sampler can create echo, delay, and reverb effects with up to 900ms of delay time. Looping Delay can be used with an expression pedal for real-time control of feedback and delay time. The device also includes a bypass footswitch and a CV for delay time. The looping delay and sampler can be used together to create unique soundscapes and effects. The Looping Delay and Sampler are the first two modules in 4MS' new low-cost module line and are designed to be easy to build.

Looping Delay Price: 275 USD. Kit Price: 175 USD

Sampler Price: 299 USD. Kit Price: 199 USD"

NAMM 2023 - 4ms - Sampler - Looping Delay

video upload by sonicstate

"4MS showcases four new modules at NAMM 2023 and Dan gave us an overview of two of the new modules - the Sampler and the Looping Delay. Both modules can be purchased as DIY kits or fully assembled units. The Sampler allows users to play wave files from an SD card with simple controls for pitch, length, start position, and recording. It can also play super long samples up to several days long.

The Looping Delay sets the delay time by clock and has super low jitter clock so you can feed it out to other devices. Users can change the timing to all divisions or multiples of the clock and can make loops up to a minute and a half long at 48 kilohertz 24 bit. The Looping Delay also has a CV input and a feedback knob that can go up to 100%.

Available: Late June 2023

Tubbutec Introduces the MC-2oh2 Upgrade for the Roland MC-202

video upload by Tubbutec

via Tubbutec

MC-2oh2 is an upgrade and feature extension for the Roland MC-202 synthesizer / composer.

It replaces the original CPU, keyboard PCB and display of an MC-202.

MC-2oh2 introduces a completely new control scheme for MC-202 synthesizers.

The sound however stays the same and many additional features are added.

Also compatible with the ‘DIN-SYNC RE-202’ project

Features

Optimized for live performance, turns your 202 into a ‘groove box’.

Three completely independent synthesizer control channels:

The internal synth, the 2nd CV/gate output and a 3rd MIDI out or DRUM channel. Each channel has its own clock divider and MIDI input and output.

Can be clocked via MIDI, DIN-sync or trigger using the TAPE-input

Versatile sequencer with 32 patterns, chainable in song mode, edit patterns and songs while playing, shortcuts for quick live arrangement. Seven sequencer play directions.

Sequence editor with copy, paste, insert and delete options, can modify note pitch, length and note-modifiers on the fly

Arpeggiator with multiple octaves, seven direction modes including ‘order of key press’. Can inherit the ‘chemistry’ of existing sequences, optional euclidian mode and live shortcuts.

Additional modulations: Accent, Filter and PW envelopes

Additional noise sound with envelope.

8-bit LOFI drum sample output with various sound modifiers, sample packs can be uploaded via MIDI

Save and recall up to 8 sets containing sequencer and modulation parameters. No batteries needed

MIDI CC control of all additional parameters, filter cutoff, pulse width, clock dividers and more.

Midi velocity can be linked to various sound parameters.

Various CV-input modes including a ‘direct’ mode.

Optional HiRes version of MC-2oh2 allows pitch bend control and microtonal tunings.

High quality OLED display

Firmware update via MIDI sysex

You can find addtional details at Tubbutec here.

Bifurcate

video upload by UncertainMusicCorps

"Continuing to explore the Wingie Blippoo firmware, this time trying to find a slightly more restrained way of working and allowing something to develop over a bit more time.

Paired with a BC9 on the line input for extra unpredictability. And sending it all out via a QuBit Aurora (standard firmware) for atmospherics.

I am loving the soundscapes this thing creates. Really regret not picking up an original Blippoo when I had the chance years ago."

The FDR Drive - a ride along the eastern edge of Manhattan with original music

video upload by CatSynth TV

"A ride along the eastern edge of Manhattan via the FDR Drive. We start at Third Avenue in the Bronx, cross the Third Avenue Bridge into Manhattan and merge onto the Harlem River Drive. At the RFK (Triboro) Bridge, the Harlem River Drive becomes the FDR Drive, which we follow to lower Manhattan until the Brooklyn Bridge. Along the way, we observe the skyline on either side of the East River, and pass several notable landmarks.

GLISS / 4MS ENSEMBLE OSCILLATOR / COSMIX PRO / eurorack generative jam

video upload by BRiES

"I started off this patch with some chords coming from the 4MS EnsOsc. Everything is sequenced and clocked by a couple of looping envelopes from Maths. I added a random (in scale) bassline, an arp (sequenced with Moskwa 2) and some vocal sounds (processed through an ADDAC 601). I'm using Orbit 3 and Filter 8 for modulation. Step 8, Soundforce DUAL LFO and Mimetic Digitalis are used for additional randomness. Herzlich Labs OMEN is 'pinging' LFOs used to modulate the sound of the chords. I used a lot of filters to shape the sounds so they don't clash too much. Cosmix Pro is handling most of the mix and I'm using the CV inputs on the stereo channels to create some extra stereo movement."

Sasazuka - Modular Synth Live Session

video upload by Senti mental

"Modular synth live session in Sasazuka, Tokyo from July 2022. Fully live set with the addition of some ambient recording from film clips used; f.e. 04:00 min min semi (cicada) started singing in the tree above during my session.
Best listened to with decent headphones or good audio equipment.

SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/padchops
Instagram: @fkasentimental

Patch Notes:

Squarp Hermod as main sequencer for Tiptop Audio Ones, 2hp Pluck and MI Rings (arpeggiated).
Tiptop Audio One left plays bass sample (from Pro2), going into Shakmat Dual Dagger
Tiptop Audio One right plays ambient patch (from Pro2) going into Black Hole II with ganular delay.
2hp Pluck into Black Hole DSP, reverb distortion mode
Rings into 4ms Dual Looping Delay creating dense texture
Modulation by Ochd
Out thru Intellijel Mixup into MixPre3.

Sasazuka is an interesting district not far away from Shinjuku. It is a quarter in transit with many changes going on; there are still many old houses around, aswell as their sometimes also very old tenants. Young families are increasingly filling the area, many different eating places and coffee shops are now run by young enthusiastic people and you frequently see foreigners around. According to some people we talked to, the government is obviouly interested in buying as much ground as they can, either for greater living areas or for business improved areas.
This video was recorded on a old trail, that conneted Edo through a small river/ stream with Tamagawa river. Occasionally, you can see the water, which is running all along the path, coming up to the surface under the urban structures, that have over a century been built up on top. At these small creeks, which you can find all over Tokyo, there is a lot of "wild life" going on - birds, beetles, that have dissapeared in other areas, wild bees and frogs etc. In the urban enviroment of today, they are precious outbursts of nature in an otherwise totally controlled city life. Photos in the end taken with Rolleiflex 2.8C, Planar, more on my Instagram."

Nelasma - "Crushed" - Dramatic Orchestral Melodic Techno - Modular Synth Live Jam - DFAM

video upload by Nelasma

"Oh my I did it again this weekend and now I'm coughing around again... sigh... at least its not as bad as three weeks ago... tho I wanna have fun again without getting sick hahaha... A-NY-WAY!

I still managed to get together some kinda orchestral vibe techno jam for you good people! Actually wanted to finally make DFAM the main actor but well.. while playing around I made those sweet stabs on the ensemble oscillator and that inspired me for the rest of the jam.

Like in the last jam I wanted to experiment more with the delay and used some bit crushing algorithm from nautilus. Sounds kinda broken sometimes but fits the vibes and the state of my immune system.

Unto the end I managed to dial in some phase cancellation of the Bassdrum which is normally a no-no for me but well.. It was still ok and since it was clocked it still was kinda rhythmical.

So yeah a little jam with broken sickness vibes haha..
And hopefully I'm back at my 100% soon.

As always raw into OBS, no post processing, intentions and mistakes ;)

Timeline:
00:00 Start/Violin Broken Delay Rise
01:19 Beaaaaaat
01:47 Beat with hats and introducing some more elements
02:32 Giving DFAM some more space and reintroduce the violin
03:11 Break
03:39 Beat with lots of noise haha...
04:00 Letting the hat vibe some more
04:52 Trying some more violin
05:46 Ending it

Stars of the show:
- #ensembleoscillator from #4ms
- #aurora from QuBit
- #nautilus from QuBit
- #mimeophon from MakeNoise
- #dfam from #moog
