The Forgotten Life Of Spliced Noodles

video upload by John L Rice

"A sort of "cutting room floor" video for fun. :-)

The sequence was basically done with a Moon Modular 569 sequencer and a Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas Magnus VCO/voice module. I think there was an Oakley Flanger module and Club Of The Knobs Phase Processor modules used and probably other modules but the patch is no longer up and I can't remember. The soloing and chords were from a Yamaha FS1R and Roland Integra7 using Roland A-88 and A-49 keyboards.

As always, thank you for watching, rating, following, and commenting! 🥳 "

Berlin School Electronica // Gotharman meets 5U Marienberg & Oakley Modular Synth

video upload by THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"Gotharman's Little Deformer 3, Gotharman's PolySpaze and my Marienberg + Oakley 5U Modular Synthesizer are having little Berlin School kind of synth jam session.

First, I patched up a typical analog synth sound with my 5U Marienberg/Oakley Modular Synth, which let me transpose the VCO and add fast FM with two switches.

I then programmed a 4 note sequence on Gotharman's Little Deformer 3 and sent it to the Modular via the CV.OCD MIDI to CV converter, which is easier for musical CV sequencing than the Deformer's own CV outputs.

The Linnstrument MIDI controller triggers the red Gotharman PolySpaze polysynth, which plays a morphable pad sound. Very simple, no MPE, etc. All audio goes into the Little Deformer 3, where it is mixed with the LD3's own sounds and processed with delay and granular audio FX.

On the LD3 there are three percussive parts playing and another 5 step sequence, which I fade in around the middle or so. All sounds can be muted, volume-controlled and even modulated with the mappable fron panel knobs. Of course, I also created a second morph layer, with a slightly different melody and changed FX settings, that produce more glitchiness and also tighter delay FX.

It was fun :) Let me know if you have questions in the comments below! Thanks for watching!

First Frost

davidryle

"A generative melodic project on the 5U modular synth.
A pair of synthesizers.com Q960 step sequencers in 3rd row control of timing provide staggered phrases. Each phrase is independent clock though closely timed. The drift is important to the interaction. One phrase is eight steps and the other is five steps. A pair of LFO's set some switch modules to introduce a new loop point at random times, further diversifying the patterns.
A random gate module from Yusynth (Yves Usson design) is employed to pick when auxiliary voices will sample from the step sequencers.
The first sound is a single Q106 triangle wave to the Synthetic Sound Labs digital delay, STG Soundlabs Sea Devils filter and Oakley Sound Systems SV filter in high pass. It then is run through the SSL Tube VCA/Timbral Gate. The random gates module sets when a pitch is sampled from the Q960's.
The second sound is the bass voice from the Dove Audio WTF vco into a Q150 Ladder Filter from Synthesizers.com. The same random gates module again selects when a voltage is picked from the Q960's.
The third pair of melodic lines are a pair of STG oscillators through the tube vca again. This pair are following the Q960's exactly.
A final voice is a Q106A vco with a PWM and triangle waves selected by the SSL Segwencer module before sending them to the Empress Reverb pedal. This time a pair of sequential switch outputs from the STG Switch determine which of the four outputs from the Q960's will send a voltage to a dotcom S&H then on to a Slew Generator.
Final effects were a Behringer 3rd Dimension BBD-320, a chorus delay from the TC Electronic s D-Two and a Lexicon MX200 in hall reverb state."

"STG Soundlabs Oscillators (two in Eurorack and one 5U) for the main pad line and one along with a Q106 for the bass line. An additional pair of VCO's (Dove WTF and Q106) for the faster upper sequence. Filters used for the bass line are Sea Devils and Oakley SVF. Filter used for the pad line is Q150. Filter for upper sequence is the Q107 in band pass mode. EG for bass line is STG and another for the pad sound. Q109's for the upper sequence envelopes. Main clock from the Q960. Sequencers include two Q960's and a pair of STG VMS.The Moon 563 trigger sequencer, two Q962 sequential switches and an STG switch for the shift timings. Delays included a Modcan 73B Dual Delay, Empress Reverb, Lexicon MX200, TCE D-Two and EchoFix tape delay."

The Beast Synthesizer from Yorick Tech

Steve Hunt

"I own Yorick Tech Ltd, maker of the Low Frequency Expander (LFE) for OB-6 and Prophet 6. [see here] This is a prototype / test bed for a mono synth project which will be a cut-down version of this, using the best bits. Possible poly version too....

Mostly my own design, including clones or designs inspired by various vintage synths, including 3 Oakley filters.

2 x CEM 3340 VCOs, one with supersaw and one with double-wavefolder. Each has its own PWM LFO and pitch ADSR and sub oscillator.

LFO3 is from the LFE and contains a hidden LFO, sampling the main LFO but with clever synchronisation so that patterns repeat in a musical way.

Ring modulator.

6 ADSRs (2 miniMoog clones, 2 digital and 2 CEM) and 7 LFOs, many VCAs including 2 mixers and stereo panning for each mixer.

4 filters:
Oberheim SEM doubled to give 12 or 24dB slope.
Roland SH-1 based filter, again with 12 or 24dB.
904a Moog Modular clone
miniKorg Traveller-based design

Filters can be set in series, parallel and are fed from the 2 mixers as 2 pairs.

Spring reverb.

4x5 mod matrix.

Midi or CV in"

m3ld by Takla Makan

New music from Tony Allgood, the man behind oakleysound.com, featuring the following:
Oakley Modular both 5U and Euro
Roland Alpha Juno 2
Novation Summit
Oberheim OB-Sx (mostly preset C3 and small edits thereof)
Oakley SRE330 ensemble and ADR30 delay effects
"Takla Makan is the artist name of Tony Allgood.

During the 1980s Tony played keyboards in a variety of bands including 'Cairo' and 'Not Before Time'. In 1986 he started producing his own synthesizer instrumental music under the name 'Takla Makan'.

His musical output is very much inspired by the work of Mike Oldfield, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream."

"I've got an overdrive module and I'm going to use it."

m3ld, pronounced 'meld', features two long format tracks, one in Dm (the saddest of all keys) and the other in Cm. And, yes, I probably did over do the overdriven synth lead sound on these two pieces. I just love a sawtooth VCO going into a highly resonant filter which then feeds an output limited high gain amplifier. There's something about the simplicity of that plaintive solo sound which gives it a wonderful and emotive ambience. I've long been inspired by the work of Mike Oldfield, and although I can't play guitar to save my life, I can't help but try to mimic the feel of his solo guitar work.

The other sound that I really like, and I've used it several times before as well as on m3ld, is the airy short vocal sound from the father of sampling, the Fairlight CMI. It's a 'preset' called 'ARR1'. When I was 15 I so wanted a Fairlight. Not only because Mike Oldfield and Jean Michel Jarre had one and it could do that sound, but also because it had a cool lightpen and a screen that had lots of wavy lines on it. Sadly, although I have fixed a few CMIs as part of my old day job, for my own compositions I have had to use samples of the real thing.

When I was younger I would spend hours writing album cover notes. And, at the end of these notes, would be the obligatory gear list. With pride I would write down a variety of home made gadgets (making them sound really quite mysterious) as well as my little Moog Rogue, Amdek RMK-100 and Roland RS-09. These days, I could write my gear on the back of a postage stamp; a small Oakley Modular, a Nord Lead A1, and a bunch of plug ins. However, for plug ins notable mention must go to U-He's Diva, Repro and Colour Copy, Synapse's The Legend, and Valhalla's Ubermod. Kids today don't know how lucky they are.

Oakley 5U Modular Synth

via this auction

"Oakley 5U Modular Synth housed in a wooden enclosure. Also included are two extra modules.

This was built a few years ago and has had minimal use.

The synth consists of the following modules:

Master panel/PSU/Multiple

Triple LFO

2x VCO’s

VCO Controller

Transistor Superladder Filter (VCF)

Quad VCA

2x ADSR/VCA (1 mounted in the rack, 1 Loose)

MiniDAC Midi to CV converter. (Loose)

Everything is working as it should, and sounds superb.

The wooden enclosure has a few marks on it here and there but nothing serious.

The modules are extremely high quality 5U units with quality hardware, 1/4” jacks, “Bridechamber” steel front panels with high quality silkscreening.

IEC power inlet on rear of enclosure.

Inside is the Oakley “Dizzy” power/cv & gate distribution pcb.

Creepy 5U Modular Synthesizer Sounds (Marienberg Devices + Oakley by Krisp1) #TTNM

Published on May 12, 2020 THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"Here’s a creepy, multitrack noise music jam in stereo, patched around the Marienberg Devices VC Multimode Filter A and VC Envelope Generator B modules.

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

My goal was to play my 5U Modular Synth on its own, which can be challenging as I don’t have any traditional sequencers in there. Right now I don’t even have a regular 5U VCA. But, thanks to the Marienberg ADSR’s multitude of gate outputs and a mixer, I could patch a simple CV sequencer together. The Marienberg Multimode VCF is not just used as a regular filter, but also as an analog FM Operator, thanks to its nice sine wave and pitch tracking. The VCO and utilities are Oakley MU and MOTM modules by Krisp1 and the reverb is a large Klangbau Köln Spring Reverb."
