First Frost

davidryle

"A generative melodic project on the 5U modular synth.
A pair of synthesizers.com Q960 step sequencers in 3rd row control of timing provide staggered phrases. Each phrase is independent clock though closely timed. The drift is important to the interaction. One phrase is eight steps and the other is five steps. A pair of LFO's set some switch modules to introduce a new loop point at random times, further diversifying the patterns.
A random gate module from Yusynth (Yves Usson design) is employed to pick when auxiliary voices will sample from the step sequencers.
The first sound is a single Q106 triangle wave to the Synthetic Sound Labs digital delay, STG Soundlabs Sea Devils filter and Oakley Sound Systems SV filter in high pass. It then is run through the SSL Tube VCA/Timbral Gate. The random gates module sets when a pitch is sampled from the Q960's.
The second sound is the bass voice from the Dove Audio WTF vco into a Q150 Ladder Filter from Synthesizers.com. The same random gates module again selects when a voltage is picked from the Q960's.
The third pair of melodic lines are a pair of STG oscillators through the tube vca again. This pair are following the Q960's exactly.
A final voice is a Q106A vco with a PWM and triangle waves selected by the SSL Segwencer module before sending them to the Empress Reverb pedal. This time a pair of sequential switch outputs from the STG Switch determine which of the four outputs from the Q960's will send a voltage to a dotcom S&H then on to a Slew Generator.
Final effects were a Behringer 3rd Dimension BBD-320, a chorus delay from the TC Electronic s D-Two and a Lexicon MX200 in hall reverb state."

A Tincture As Needed

davidryle

"A 5U modular patch with the new STG Soundlabs Oscillators. Using a pair of synthesizers.com Q960 step sequencers and a pair of STG Envelope Generators as well as a Post Lawsuit LPF and Yusynth Arp 4072 filter. Other processors include EchoFix tape delay, Maestro phase shifter, Klark Teknik 3rd Dimension and Hedra pitch shifter. The modulation aspect of the STG VCO's is very useful for detuning right on the front panel. These are very alive sounding and have plenty of character."

CGS202 Serge Resonant Equalizer and Yusynth Fixed Filter Bank Pro

Lower West Side Studio

"A brief comparison of the frequencies controlled by the CGS202 Serge Resonant Equalizer and the Yusynth Fixed Filter bank pro from Lower West Side Studio

CGS202 Resonant Equalizer - https://richsstudioproject.wpcomstagi...

Fixed Filter Bank Pro - https://richsstudioproject.wpcomstagi..."

CGS202 Serge Resonant Equalizer

$370

One of the most sought after modules ever produced the Serge Resonant Equalizer is now available in classic MU format! The CGS202 Serge Resonant Equalizer offers the unique major-seventh band equalization setting itself apart from standard graphic equalizers and opening the door for interesting sonic possibilities.

The CGS202 Serge Resonant Equalizer is available in 1U and 2U widths offering the exact same features in different sizes to suit your modular system’s requirements."

Also available in single width.

Fixed Filter Bank Pro

$495

While most modular systems contain different types of filters many tend to omit the precision sound sculpting tool, the Fixed Filter Bank. The reference standard for Fixed Filter Banks is the 914 module by Moog and while this module is both expensive and difficult to obtain the Yusynth Fixed Filter Bank Pro is an outstanding option based on the same sonic principals.

In addition to all the features of our standard edition Fixed Filter Bank the Fixed Filter Bank Pro offers individual outputs for each frequency in the filter as well as attenuators for each input.

DIY ARP 4072 Lowpass Filter (ARP 2600)

Preview of latest circuit: The ARP 4072 Lowpass Filter (ARP 2600) MrCaliforniaD

"Version 1.0 is working like a charm.

Once in a proper enclosure, I'll try to record something more substantial.

Thanks to Eddy Bergman for his unconditional support.

You can visit his website to get the schematics. Also check out his other awesome projects while you're at it:
https://www.eddybergman.com/2020/03/s...

I don't sell theses modules. Sorry!"

Some details via Eddy Bergman's website (note the schematic is from YuSynth):

Synthesizer Build part-21: ARP2600 LOWPASS FILTER (4072).

The best sounding filter of any I built so far! With verified stripboard layout.

A word of warning right at the start; this is an advanced project, not for beginners. You need to know your electronics and you also need to have a good multi channel oscilloscope.

Cave Giants

davidryle

"A live performance with the 5U large format modular synthesizer.

Starting with an Encore Electronics frequency shifter and Yusynth Arp 4072 filter. Modulations to the frequency shifter from a Sputnik WCRS, and an Ian Fritz DDVCO in harmonic sequence mode.

The bass sequence is driven by the STG Soundlabs suite with two VMS and one TMS, a pair of EG's, a Switch module and the Time Divider. Clock timing from Cubase via dinsync to the Time Buffer. Four synthesizers.com Q106's into a Q150 transistor ladder filter and an Oakley SVF.

The melodic sequence is a pair of Q960 sequencers to a pair of Q106's through an STG Sea Devils filter and Q107 SVF.

The percussive tick sound is a Sputnik voltage controlled slope.

Delays and reverbs include Behringer DD400's, Empress reverb, Strymon Blue Sky, Electro Harmonix Canyon, TipTop DSP with Valhalla Shimmer and Modcan 73B.'

Daft Punk "Da Funk" on modular synth & Bass Station II

Extralife

"The eurorack sequencer used in this video is now on Kickstarter! Click below for more info:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

After many years of listening and contemplating it, I finally decided to dive in recreate Daft Punk's classic acid house burner with my modular synth setup. Every sound you hear was created on the gear you see! The drums are hexinverter 909 modules (the sub bass comes from the kick), and some samples on the Squarp Rample (hi hats, drum break, horn stab). The first bassline is on the Novation Bass Station II using some external feedback looping for more growl. The classic 303 line is recreated using my open-source Super Sixteen sequencer, MFOS VCO as an oscillator, Yusynth Moog Ladder Filter, and a SansAmp Para Driver. Some EQ and buss compression was added to the recording.

Sorry that 25% of the video ended up being the top of my head! Still working on a proper overhead camera setup. Will fix that for the next jam."

Ashes on the western wind

davidryle

"I am using the 5U large format modular along with the Korg Wavestate to perform a real time studio recording.
The crux of the idea was to use the Q119 step sequencer to control the voltage-select outputs of the STG Soundlabs Switch module. The main step sequence is from the Synthetic Sound Labs Mini Sequencer.

I also used the Q123 Standards module from synthesizers.com to transpose interval shifts to some of the oscillator pitches. The drone over the top of them made for some mode changes which I liked.

The kick drum and paper snare sounds were gate triggered from the Q963 Trigger Bus.

A blend of the other STG Switch outputs are layered and sent through a Modcan dual delay for the main sequence line. A trigger mini-store controls an Oakley VCADSR envelope timing from these outputs. Decay and Sustain stages of the Oakley are controlled by rows from the Q960 sequencers.

Some of the sine wave pitched drones in the background are also tapped from rows of the Q960's. Their gate envelopes are managed by the Moon 563 Trigger sequencer and a few channels of the SSL Octal VCA and Expander.
Sound sources are Q106's, Dove Waveplane, SSL DDVCO and S1200 vco. The final signal train is through the Yusynth Arp 4072 low pass filter.

The Wavestate is played by hand with a patch I constructed called Malachite Temple.

Everything is summed to three channels on a Mackie mixer and recorded direct to Cubase. Video editing done in Final Cut Pro."

An analog DIY Bass-Synthesizer

Published on Apr 17, 2020 Andreas Remshagen

"I wanted a little Bass-Synth with an easy Chord-Sequencer and the Akzentuator (I had built it in a Synth before). It also should work as a normal Synth for playing Basslines. The filter i used is a moog-clone descriped in YuSynths site. For metallic Bass-sounds i added the Metalizer that is also descriped in YuSynths site. The VCOs that i used here i had built some time ago, they are the Oscillators from Ray Wilsons (MFOS) sound-lab Mini. There are circuits from the components in Videodescriptions from my earlier videos. Its a very compact device with you can create many Variations of Bass-Sounds.

Gone In A Day

Published on Mar 7, 2020 davidryle

"I had some fun with INSTRUo Harmonaig and a few select 5U modules.

The modulation to the Harmonaig (Inversion and Voicing) was with a pair of STG Soundlabs Voltage Mini Store modules.

The main transpose sequence was from a Mini Sequencer built by Synthetic Sound Labs.

The pattern gate selection and VMS stepping were done with the STG Time Divider.

Some magic mojo was stirred in with the selection of dotted notes against straight notes. The Trigger Sequencer was the Moon Modular 563. It sent gate timings to the four voices run through the SSL Octal VCA and AD/AR Expander.

The four oscillators were a Mos Lab 901 bank, DDVCO, SSL 1200 and Q106.

Filters included Yusynth Arp 4072, Dotcom Q107 in high pass mode and Mos Lab 904-A.

The final reverb is the Z-DSP from TipTop Audio with a 'Halls of Valhalla' card."
