1. How To Learn Yamaha DX7 Synthesizer – Tutorial: Fundamentals of FM Synthesis, Algorithm

"This is a foundation level tutorial and it’s the first Yamaha DX7 & FM synthesis tutorial from the FM synthesis tutorial series. This how to learn tutorial gives you an overview of the most important aspect of the Yamaha DX7 and FM synthesis, Algorithm.

Algorithm plays a critical role in the FM synthesis sound design. It determines how all Operators (oscillator with envelop generator) interact with one another. The DX7 algorithm offers both frequency modulation synthesis as well as additive synthesis. Having 32 options of different algorithm, the DX7 FM synthesis offers greater versatility of sonic creation."

2. How to learn Yamaha DX7 Synthesizer - Tutorial: FM Synthesis Sound Design Tub Bells Part 1

"I will use the famous Tub Bells patch as an example for the FM sound design process. I will take you through the DX7 FM parameters, including Algorithm, Feedback and Oscillator. The reason why I picked the famous Tub Bells patch is that it is one of my favourite (and I'm sure a lot of people like the iconic DX7 sound), and it is one of the easiest patch to explain how the FM synthesis works to beginners and new comers to the DX7 and FM synthesis. Initially I will focus on analysing the famous Tub Bells patch, then I will going into improving the famous sound using Priority Parameters."

3. How to learn Yamaha DX7 Synthesizer - Tutorial: FM Synthesis Sound Design Tub Bells Part 2

"This is a third tutorial of the FM synthesis tutorial series that I’m planning. As I need to cater for a wider audience, I decided to create this ‘how to’ tutorial series from the very beginning, starting from the very basics of the FM synthesis and Yamaha DX7 synthesizer."

4. How to learn Yamaha DX7 Synthesizer - Tutorial: FM synthesis Sound Design Tub Bells Part 3

"This is a fourth tutorial of the FM synthesis tutorial series that I’m planning. As I need to cater for a wider audience, I decided to create this ‘how to’ tutorial series from the very beginning, starting from the very basics of the FM synthesis and Yamaha DX7 synthesizer.

Continuing on from the Part 2, I will revise the DX7 envelop generator as it can be complex and confusing for people new to the FM synthesis. In a nutshell, the DX7 has basically 6 advanced ADSR type envelops. DSI PRO 2 SYNTHESIS TUTORIALS

DSI PRO 2 BASS DRUM SYNTHESIS TUTORIAL ~ Synthesize This! Ep.01

Published on Dec 9, 2016 once upon a synth

"A tutorial on how to synthesize bass drum sounds on the DSI Pro 2 synthesizer. Synthesizing a bass/kick drum is relatively simple. The main idea is to simulate the response of a membrane being struck by a mallet. The crude approximation involves a sine wave whose frequency starts off really high but quickly drops down. The sine wave is achieved either via a sine wave oscillator directly or via a resonant low pass filter during self oscillation. In both cases, the sine wave's frequency is modulated via an ADSR envelope generator. In this video I demonstrate both approaches as well as adding effects like distortion or some of the character FX on the Pro 2. Finally I end with a simple demonstration of what the Pro 2's bass drum sounds like along with a Korg Volca Beats which I've synced via MIDI.

Let me know in the comments below if you guys have any other tips with regards to synthesizing kick drums. I'm still learning all this stuff so hopefully we can help each other out!

Moog Sub Phatty: New Machine For Living

Published on Jan 21, 2013 MoogMusicInc·222 videos

"In honor of the new Moog Sub Phatty analog synthesizer's release today, experimental multi-genre music producer, Flying Lotus, and Adult Swim veteran, Adam 'Lilfuchs' Fuchs collaborated on a short animation called Moog Sub Phatty: New Machine For Living. You can hear the new Sub Phatty analog synthesizer in Flying Lotus's original score for the animation."

"New Moog Sub Phatty Synthesizer Sets New Standard for Analog Sound Design

ASHEVILLE, NC – January 21, 2013 – Moog Music is proud to introduce the Sub Phatty analog synthesizer, a 25 full-size key, 31 knob production instrument that melds the soul and functionality of vintage analog synthesizers with new and unique sound design tools. Building on the tradition of Moog’s highly successful Phatty family, the Sub Phatty grinds and screams with a uniquely aggressive voice — making it the new standard for synth bass, analog percussion, and a wide range of sound design applications.

The engineers at Moog Music have reimagined the Sub Phatty’s sound engine. The instrument features two variable waveshape oscillators that perform with extreme clarity and accuracy while requiring almost no warm-up time. Users can simply power up, dial in settings, and put their fingers to work on the keys to summon crisp and detailed waveforms with vibrant sound that brims with high-frequency harmonic content, yet stays true to the rich sonic density that has become synonymous with Moog synthesizers.

“We set out to design the grittiest Moog synth ever, one that still offers all of the great sound and flexibility that Moog synthesizers are known for, but that also really has teeth,” said Mike Adams, President of Moog Music. “One of the great advantages of the Sub Phatty is its ability to conjure aggressive sounds that cut through a dance mix, stand out on-stage, or burn up the studio. We think that everyone from producers and sound designers to DJs and synthesists will have a blast using it.”

The Sub Phatty’s filter includes the transformative new Multidrive circuit, a unique combination of OTA distortion and FET drive, which serves as the sparkplug in the instrument’s powerful sound. At low settings, Multidrive adds warmth and width; when pushed, it delivers a screaming snarl that is highly reactive to resonance, waveshape, and oscillator level.

Users can access a total of 16 definable presets via the 4x4 preset matrix on the Sub Phatty’s front panel. This matrix also doubles as a control panel for the instrument’s subcutaneous nerve center — users can select filter poles, set pitch bend amounts, toggle between legato glide modes, and more. These functions can also be accessed via the included Sub Phatty standalone/plugin editor.

The configuration of the Sub Phatty’s mixer section allows users to easily determine, at any given moment, which sources overdrive the filter and which simply pass through it. The mixer section further hosts controls for a square wave sub oscillator; those operating the Sub Phatty can utilize this tool as a third oscillator for added depth, or to craft their own customized incarnations of monstrous Moog bass. Also in the mixer section is a noise generator voiced to deliver rich, punchy low-frequency content, designed for analog percussion and sound effects.

In honor of the Sub Phatty’s release, experimental multi-genre music producer, Flying Lotus, and Adult Swim veteran, Adam Fuchs collaborated on a psychedelic short animation called Moog Sub Phatty: New Machine For Living. Flying Lotus’s original score was made primarily with the Sub Phatty synthesizer and dynamically shows off its bold sound. This unique animation can be viewed on Moog’s website at www.moogmusic.com/animation.
The Sub Phatty brings a fearless new voice to the Moog family of synthesizers. With its streamlined interface and dynamic sound design flexibility, this new synth fuses an unparalleled connection between human & machine, opening the door to unprecedented sonic exploration.

"Re-Introducing Werkstatt-01

Werkstatt-01 is a patchable and compact analog synthesizer. A gateway to the expansive world of analog synthesis, the instrument is a must-have for anyone interested in exploring classic Moog sound and circuitry through the unique, hands-on experience of a DIY synthesizer project. This affordable, easy-to-assemble kit requires no prior electronics experience and is a perfect afternoon (or Christmas morning) project.

The straightforward simplicity of Werkstatt-01’s design makes it an ideal jumping-off point to discover a limitless new world of analog sound design, and the included 3.5mm CV Expander makes it a no-brainer for everyone wishing to integrate the iconic Moog sound into their music. The 9" by 6" musical machine may be small, but the raw power and spectrum of the sound it produces is immense.

From Musical Exploration to Experimental Education

First introduced at Moogfest 2014 as part of the event’s Engineering Workshop, the Werkstatt-01 analog synthesizer has been admired as an essential introductory synth, a powerful standalone instrument, and an enhancement to any integrated electronic music ecosystem. Based on classic Moog circuitry, Werkstatt-01 was created to provide a hands-on understanding of how analog synthesizers work and encourage experimentation with sound through patching and interconnectivity.

The research and design that went into Werkstatt-01’s circuits, and the demand for more semi-modular exploratory analog instruments after its initial release, ultimately led to the development of some of today’s most expressive sound design machines: Mother-32, DFAM, Grandmother, Matriarch, and Subharmonicon.

More than a musical instrument, Werkstatt-01 has also served as an interactive educational tool in STEM curricula. The compact, versatile synthesizer has been the heart of the Georgia Tech Hackathon, a weekend-long competition that takes place each February at the Atlanta university’s Center for Music Technology, for six years and counting. The 2021 Georgia Tech Hackathon will be held virtually; see details here.

The easily mod-able analog synth kit has also proven to be a perfect learning ground for DIY modifications and the science of sound. This page of our website features a series of instructional videos to walk you through how to expand your instrument through breadboarding and arduino integration.

Classic Moog Sound & Circuitry

Werkstatt-01’s 100% analog circuits deliver the classic soul and futuristic sound Moog synthesizers are known for. Featuring a full-range analog oscillator with selectable waveforms for powerful sound and the legendary Moog Ladder Filter for precision harmonic sculpting, this instrument covers a vast expanse of sonic territory. Adding movement and modulation is as simple as engaging Werkstatt-01’s analog LFO circuit to simulate the motion of gently breathing waves, or crank up the LFO speed and summon cosmic laser beams. A two-stage analog envelope generator with sustain gives you control to shape dynamics, dialing in everything from lush electronic string swells to punchy basslines and organic percussion hits—and everything in between.

The included CV Expander allows you to enter the endless realms of modular synthesis, where new connections can be made and original sounds are unlocked. Patching inputs and outputs together from the 12 jacks of the 3.5mm patch bay will reconfigure Werkstatt-01’s circuits to create new signal paths and empower new sonic explorations. The included CV Expander also makes it easy to connect Werkstatt-01 to other Moog semi-modular synthesizers, Eurorack systems, or drum machines, enhancing any configuration with powerful analog sound."

Programming a Nave Sound in 120 seconds
Published on Jun 12, 2013

"This tutorial shows how to program a wavetable sound within a short amount of time."

"Waldorf advances wavetable synthesis to iPad with Nave

'Nave is wonderful — by far the most impressive iOS synthesizer I have laid my hands on to date.'

- Richard Devine, 2013 (electronic musician and sound designer)

BAD NEUENAHR, GERMANY: high-quality synthesizer developer Waldorf is proud to announce availability of Nave, its first synthesizer app for Apple’s all-conquering iPad, as of June 13...

Jointly created by Stefan Stenzel (audio algorithms), Rolf Wöhrmann (iOS development), and Axel Hartmann (graphic design), Nave transforms any iPad into an advanced wavetable synthesizer fit for truly mobile 21st Century composition, performance, and sound design!

Speaking of which, Nave comes complete with over 500 presets from highly acclaimed sound designers like Richard Devine, Sacha Dikiciyan (of Sonic Mayhem fame), Laurence Rapaccioli (Arksun), David Boldini (7 Skies), and Fletcher Kaufman (Sunsine Audio), amongst many others. All seriously showcase the depth and diversity of this impressive and inspirational iOS synthesizer — so much so, in fact, that Richard Devine was suitably moved to create no fewer than 95 presets alone, all of which are included for free!

For the benefit of those who want to indulge in some serious sound design of their own making, Nave does not disappoint. Its powerful sound engine includes two trailblazing wavetable-based oscillators, leaving all previous attempts at wavetable synthesis severely wanting. While the sound spectrum can cleverly be transposed independently of pitch, the waves can be rendered from perfectly periodic to very noisy and anywhere in between.

Nave’s clear-cut GUI invites both beginners and advanced users alike to experiment both sonically and musically while the hosting iPad’s generous display helps make wavetable creation and editing a blast! Besides integrated speech synthesis, wavetables can also be formed from analysing audio files. Furthermore, stretching, rotating, and shifting in the spectral domain allows wavetables to be refined or distorted in the fullscreen Wavetable Edit Mode. Here users can edit and fine-tune the wavetables using several 3D views that are as easy on the eye as they are to use. And in a reverential nod to Waldorf’s illustrious past and present, factory wavetables from the breakthrough Microwave, mighty Wave, and price barrier-breaking Blofeld synthesizers are all present and accounted for, complemented by an abundance of tasty new ones that make extensive use of those enhanced possibilities!

And if that’s not enough to get your creative juices flowing then Nave additionally includes a classic oscillator with an ultra useful selection of basic waveforms, plus a super-fat-sounding Überwave function for beefing up sounds by up to eight individually detuned oscillators a la Waldorf’s recently released Rocket synthesizer. Nave is, indeed, truly a sound designer’s dream machine!

But, Waldorf being Waldorf, that’s not all: Nave’s flexible Filter section delivers that high-quality synthesizer sound recognisable right away by anyone at all familiar with Waldorf’s noteworthy name, and, as such, features LP (low-pass), BP (band-pass), and HP (high-pass) filter types with either 12 dB or 24 dB slope settings. Its neighbouring Drive section offers contrasting characteristics by being positioned Pre Filter or Post Filter or as a summing overdrive Pre EQ or Post EQ — perfect for those who prefer harsh and screaming sounds rather than delicate wavetable sweeps.

An extended modulation matrix and diverse realtime control functionality also awaits anyone wishing to animate any Nave sound in any desired direction. In addition to the classic virtual chromatic keyboard, Nave can be played with the Blades that allow for dynamic triggering of polyphonic modulation by simply sliding fingers in X and/or Y direction.

Yet more flexible fun is to be had on the FX & Arp page with pro-quality ModFX (Phaser, Flanger, Chorus), Delay, Reverb, parametric Equalizer, and a highly effective Compressor all adding to Nave’s sound and performance possibilities, as does a full-featured Arpeggiator. And last, but by no means least, the Tape & System page plays hosts to an old school, four-track recorder — replete with virtual tape spools. Use it to record complete compositions or simply sketch some musical ideas inspired by the superlative sounds of Nave!

So how does Nave naturally sound, then? Totally in a class by itself. Just like Waldorf! After all, the well-known Waldorf name has been synonymous with high-quality synthesizers for nigh on 25 years; indeed, its innovative position in the musical instrument marketplace dates back to 1989 with the release of the wavetable-based Microwave, an extraordinary reincarnation of the legendary PPG Wave series — arguably amongst the most coveted high-end synthesizers of the early Eighties. Time and technology stand still for no one, of course, and today Nave takes those heady heavyweight hardware developments of yesteryear — and a whole lot more besides — and serves them up to thankful iPad-adoptees at a fraction of the cost of its forebears.

Any adventurous musical iPad owners out there intrigued by the creative possibilities of wavetable synthesis surely owe it to themselves to check out Nave, the advanced wavetable synthesizer from Waldorf. Going for a song on Apple’s App Store, right here, right now!

iPad owners can purchase Nave directly from Apple’s App Store for a five-day special introductory price of €10.99 EUR/$11.99 USD. (Thereafter it will rise to €17.99 EUR/$19.99 USD.)"

Future Retro Desktop Synth with 11 OSC Models, Pro Sound Design Tools, Hands-On Workflow, and Multitimbral Pattern Sequencer

Los Angeles, CA, February 23, 2023 — Roland announces the SH-4d Synthesizer, a powerful new desktop instrument focused on synthesis and sound design. With 11 OSC Models and a hands-on panel filled with knobs, buttons and sliders, the SH-4d fuels on-the-spot creation and endless sonic discoveries. It also features a multitimbral sequencer with four synth parts and a customizable rhythm part, allowing users to compose intricate patterns with motion recording, extensive effects and more. Equally suited for studio, stage and traveling, the SH-4d is a fun and versatile instrument that will appeal to both modern electronic music creators and synth collectors everywhere.

Fifty years ago, Roland launched its first synthesizer, the groundbreaking SH-1000. The SH name has represented the company’s core synthesizer instruments ever since, merging innovative new technologies with tactile interfaces for quickly designing sounds in the moment. The SH-4d opens the next chapter in the long-running series, offering Roland’s latest analog modeling advancements and a deep-yet-inviting panel that catalyzes creativity and rewards exploration at every turn.

Detroit techno legend Carl Craig was so impressed with the SH-4d that he agreed to be the face of the launch video, delivering a spirited performance featuring new music composed solely on the unit. "That machine is a little monster,” he said after spending just a short time with the SH-4d. “So many options to not only shape sound but to shape the musical composition too."

Eleven OSC Models offer diverse sound-crafting possibilities, from vintage analog tones with SH-4d, SH-3D, Chord, Ring and Sync Models to cutting-edge digital textures with Cross FM, Wavetable and Drawing Models. Influential voices from Roland’s historic past include SH-101 and JUNO-106 Models and a PCM Model with a large selection of sample-based sounds. The SH-4d also features a flexible drum synthesizer with rich tone-shaping capabilities for creating custom kits from scratch.

The SH-4d puts everything creators need for pro sound design at their fingertips, with 32 knobs, four sliders and a massive array of multi-function buttons. The LCD, sliders and buttons automatically reconfigure their functions to follow the selected mode, eliminating menu-dive roadblocks that slow the creative flow. Dedicated Filter, Amp and LFO sections are always ready to shape any tone or pattern. And with the powerful Matrix section, users can create an even wider range of sounds by routing the output of the LFO or envelope generator to parameters in a Model.

Among its many tricks, the SH-4d features built-in motion sensors that allow the user to pick up the synth and adjust sounds with physical movements. D-Motion mode provides X/Y control for two parameters, while the unique Visual Arpeggio shapes note patterns via fun interactive displays.

The SH-4d sequencer is always a button press away, ready to transform sound ideas into compact loops or extended compositions. Up to 60 notes of total polyphony provide ample resources to develop complete musical ideas in the box. There’s also a versatile selection of renowned Roland effects to frost, finesse, rough up or mangle tones and patterns.

The SH-4d runs on a standard USB-C phone charger or AA batteries for up to four hours. There’s a two-plus octave button keyboard for self-contained composition, plus MIDI I/O for use as a sound module and controller in an expanded hardware setup. The SH-4d also functions as a USB-C audio/MIDI interface with 12 discrete audio channels for computer music production.

And the official press release:

"Yamaha MODX Incorporates Flagship Technology into a Lightweight, Affordable Line of Synthesizers

NEW YORK, N.Y. (September 14, 2018) — Yamaha today unveiled the MODX - a line of compact, lightweight, hybrid synthesizers inspired by flagship Yamaha synth technology to offer dynamic, expressive music-making at an affordable price.

This successor to the popular Yamaha MOXF line will be available in three models – MODX6 (61 semi-weighted keys), MODX7 (76 semi-weighted keys) and MODX8 (88 weighted and graded keys) – to fit the needs of synth players, keyboardists and pianists alike.

The power of the MODX offers musicians unlimited potential to create their own unique sound. The MODX sound engine draws on the same technology powering the flagship MONTAGE synth: AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) sample and synthesis engine plus a pure FM-X (Frequency Modulation) synthesizer modernized for dynamic synthesis and complex sound design. The MODX also incorporates Motion Control, a highly programmable control matrix for dynamic sound interaction. This gives musicians unparalleled ability to direct and manipulate their sound by interacting with their Performances in fine detail.

The MODX expands on the MOXF by offering a wide array of control and workflow elements. Seamless Sound Switching has been introduced in the tradition of MONTAGE to allow switching between Performances without any sound cutoff. MODX has DSP power with up to 13 simultaneous dual insertion effects and 3 system/master effects. MODX polyphony has been increased to 128 notes of stereo AWM2 (sample-based) plus 64 FM-X (Frequency Modulation synthesis.) The control panel now includes four faders, multi-function Super Knob and a touchscreen display.

At the same time, the MODX is housed in a lightweight body that makes it easy to carry to sessions, gigs and rehearsals. Also, like its predecessor, the MODX comes bundled with Steinberg Cubase AI DAW software for creating and producing music on the computer.

Synth players and sound designers will appreciate the deep programmability of Motion Control and the MODX FM-X synth engine. The versatility of the MODX and the wealth of onboard keyboard, synth, brass and strings sounds will appeal to keyboardists needing a wide variety of sounds, and 88 weighted-action keys, designed with the benefit of over 125 years of Yamaha piano craftsmanship and over 40 years of synth innovation, will suit any pianist.
“MODX sets a new standard for mid-range synthesizer sound, control and mobility,” said Nate Tschetter, marketing manager, Yamaha Synthesizers. “With advanced flagship technology in a lightweight, accessible package, MODX excels on stage, in the studio and in a wide array of creative situations.”

Pricing and Availability
The Yamaha MODX6 (MSRP $1,649), MODX7 (MSRP $1,899) and MODX8 (MSRP $2,399) are scheduled to ship September 27.

German | Googlish:

Some of the highlights below. Be sure to click the pics for the full size shots as always.  You'll find more at the links above.

"KingKORG | synthesizer

The king of the analog modeling synth - a terrific live performance

KingKORG is de r independent analog modeling synthesizer with a huge potential! KingKORG embodies the seamless continuation of the design philosophy of classic KORG analogsynths like the MS-20 and Mono / Poly, from which the Prophecy have originated Z1, MS2000, and RADIAS. This fascinating new instrument has the unique characteristics typical synthesizer and an arsenal of practical controls for a perfect sound design. Despite its impressive technology and synth beginners become familiar with KingKORG quickly. On stage, he offers not only his great sound, but also literally, with its magnificent champagne-gold finish that emphasizes its royal name - KingKORG.

Highlights

Full featured analog modeling synth with 61 keys - optimized for live performance
Powerful oscillators - understandable for beginners, fascinating for experts
Modeling Filters for the reproduction of classical instruments
3 effect sections (each with 6 types of effects) to the perfect design of the sound
Vacuum Tube Driver for brilliant overtones fat Distortion
New panel layout for intuitive operation
CV / GATE OUT jack mono tribe or to control a Korg MS-20 (mini)
Free Librarian software for program management to download"

"Powerful oscillators - understandable for beginners, fascinating for experts

In addition to a complex "3-oscillator x 2-timbre" technique to generate richer and more detailed sounds KingKORG features a newly developed XMT modeling sound engine. XMT (Xpanded Modeling Technology) is a proprietary Korg technology that allows easy operation in producing diverse sounds.

In conventional synthesizers, the individual oscillators while the sound creation only sequentially adjustable, the overall picture is hard to overlook. In contrast, offers KingKORG preset algorithms with various combinations of oscillators, which differ in type and number, and allow easy, fast creation of cool sounds.

The wide range of oscillator algorithms including not only the usual analogsynths sawtooth and square waves or noise generators, but also numerous PCM / DWGS algorithms that open up an entirely new field for a very custom sounds."

"Modeling Filters reproduce the sound of vintage instruments

Since the filter section on the characteristics of a synthesizer decides significantly, they found during the development of KingKORG special attention. The already large variety of analog modeling filter is significantly extended by the extremely flexible filtering of KingKORG.

In addition to the wide range of indispensable analog modeling filter types get realistic filter models to reproduce the analog monophonic lead and bass synths of the 70s, the New Wave typical polyphonic synths of the 80 and the filter of the classic Korg MS-20 analog synth.

Furthermore, can the setting of the filter resonance up to self increase - an existing analogsynths only real feature!"

"3 effect sections with 6 types of effect for a perfect make-up sound

KingKORG offers three effect sections with six types of effects: PRE FX with effects such as distortion and amp simulator FX MOD with classic effects such as phaser, chorus and tremolo, and REV / DELAY with spatial effects such as reverb and delay effects and different Plate. Each effect processor has it own dial to select the desired effect type. With the arranged underneath FX controls can precisely fine-tune the effect."

"Vacuum Tube Driver for brilliant overtones fat Distortion

Based on decades of experience in analog technology, a fully developed KORG analog vacuum tube driver circuit as a mastering effect for KingKORG. It produces the entire range between warm sonority and intense overdrive."

"Vocoding

The built-in vocoder uses the input of the Board held on microphone input for sound processing and brings the synth seems to speak.

His Formant Shift function causes dramatic sound modifications, while the Formant Hold function a vowel is "frozen", which can then play with the keyboard.

Thanks KingKORGs Doppeltimbre architecture can combine the vocoder even with a different timbre and use it as additional sound or modulation source.

Virtual Patch function

With many classic synthesizers (such as the MS-20) could configure the signal flow with patch cables to physically connect one element to another. KingKORG forms this function by using an intuitive virtual patch system. Over six Virtual Patch assignments per timbre can be joint control signals such as EG, LFO, or virtual joystick movement with sound parameters like pitch or cutoff and modulate these creative."

"Step Arpeggiator function

The Step Arpeggiator automatically generated from a sustained chord a tone sequence (arpeggio). You can choose among six Arpeggio and set duration, interval and on / off status of each Steps to arpeggios exactly to your own performance.

New panel layout for intuitive operation

The newly designed control panel is divided into logical blocks that direct the attention to the things that are for the processing of sounds important. Although KingKORG reflects the signal flow of a analogsynths in its construction, to its control panel is the most modern technology. For example, the oscillator section shows on its own display the name of the currently selected algorithm.

By turning the selector dial to appear adjacent to it are descriptive names, and by pressing the wheel to jump to the beginning of categories such as ANALOG or DWGS. The knobs are the most effective and most important parameters assigned to each oscillator and provide access to the unique features of an analog synthesizer sound design --- by turning knob. Also for each of the three effects, a separate controller is available to easily experiment with different effect settings and test their effect on the sound. A self-luminous organic EL display (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) provides on dimly lit stages for excellent readability."

"On the CV / GATE OUT jack allows an analog signal for controlling a mono tribe or KORG MS-20 output. With the included cable you can then eg play the mono tribe on KingKORG keyboard!"

Press Release follows:

"Synclavier Digital releases regenerated Synclavier® II trailblazer as timeless Regen desktop synthesizer bolstered by present-day DSP developments

NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA: soft-launched late last year to widespread critical acclaim at the Synthplex® synthesizer expo and electronic music festival hosted at the Marriott Convention Center in Burbank, CA, USA with pre-orders opening for fulfilment in 2023, timeless synthesis product manufacturer Synclavier Digital is proud to announce wider availability of Regen — released as a desktop synthesizer that is, in short, a real regeneration of New England Digital’s seminal Synclavier® II digital synthesizer that took the pro audio industry by storm when introduced in its initial incarnation in 1980 (evolving beyond that to blaze more technological trails with polyphonic sampling and, ultimately, DAW — Digital Audio Workstation — capabilities well before that term was invented, even), extended and enhanced to take advantage of the increased computing power available today to make it as compelling in a modern setting as the prohibitively pricey original did during its time (finding favour with top-tier film composers, record producers, and recording artists), while the considerable cost and size reductions associated with Regen’s present-day design criteria conversely position it well within reach of (almost) anyone — as of June 29…

The press release:

"Meet Mavis: The Newest Addition to the Moog Semi-Modular Family
Mavis, a new all-analog semi-modular synthesizer, delivers legendary Moog sound in an affordable and compact musical machine. An inspiring and expressive instrument, Mavis offers serious value to anyone looking to learn synthesis or explore Moog sound in a new way.

This build-it-yourself synthesizer kit is ready to come to life as a powerful, patchable analog instrument, either mounted in a Eurorack case or on its own. Mavis's intuitive design allows for immediate musical exploration (no patching required) and is ready to guide your journey through the expansive world of modular synthesis through its flexible patch bay and accompanying educational resources.

Mavis features the first-ever Moog wavefolding circuit, allowing for additive synthesis to sit alongside traditional subtractive synthesis, unlocking sounds never heard before on a Moog instrument. Mavis offers incredible value through its clever collection of circuits, including two oscillators, full ADSR, a ladder filter, sample and hold, attenuators, mixer, mults, and much more, providing all the tools needed for creative patching and sound design.

Mavis delivers huge depth of sound to any creative looking to begin their journey into synthesis, expand their Moog ecosystem, or enhance their Eurorack setup."

Additional details & pics:

"As one of their most affordable semi-modular synthesizers to date, Moog's Mavis is equally at home as a standalone instrument, companion to the Mother series, or active member of a bustling Eurorack system. Shipped as an easily assembled kit, the excitement of putting together your own instrument gives way to a wonderful journey of sonic exploration.

Mavis packs all of the essential elements of a full synthesis voice into a compact package—oscillator, filter, ADSR envelope generator, and VCA—as well as some special surprises, including Moog's first-ever wavefolder! Best of all, everything is accessible through 24 patch points, overriding the internal normalled connections and putting Mavis's signal flow under your control.

As with all Moog's best synths, Mavis begins with an all-analog VCO, with this particular design featuring a blend control crossfading between sawtooth and pulse waveforms. PWM and pitch modulation are available with independent level controls, and may be shaped by the LFO, envelope generator, or a mix of the two. The hallmark of any Moog synth, the resonant lowpass ladder filter, makes an appearance on Mavis, and may be similarly controlled with the LFO and/or envelope with positive or negative polarity. As for the VCA, leave it wide open for drones or shape it with the ADSR for lush swells or snappy plucks.

Mavis subscribes to the same modular philosophies as Moog's legacy instruments as well as their hit Mother series. With the 24-point patch bay, additional elements are available to coax more interesting patches out of Mavis. Split and distribute signals with the multiple, inject uncertainty with the sample and hold, and balance audio or control signals with the DC-coupled mixer. Most surprising of all is the inclusion of a diode wavefolder—the first such design on any Moog instrument—bringing a touch of West Coast-style waveshaping into their world of traditionally subtractive designs.

Though Mavis can exist totally independently, it shines in collaboration with others. Place it on your desk alongside your other patchable instruments, or remove Mavis from its enclosure and mount it in a Eurorack case as a 44hp module for highly nested interactions. Mavis ships with a handful of patch cables, overlay sheets, and a protective plastic dust cover for when the instrument isn't in use. Whether you're just starting out or looking for a fully-featured Moog synth voice, Mavis delivers in spades.
