Celebrating International Synthesizer Day at SynthTemple
video upload by Luke Million
"What better way to celebrate International Synthesizer Day than surrounding yourself with the most iconic synths ever made in a giant studio?!
Recently I visited SynthTemple to familiarise myself with what is possible in this amazing sonic playground.
I thought it would be fun to recreate The Chase by Giorgio Moroder and in particular to learn how to use the Roland System 700.
A lot of fun was had and although I didn’t get through the whole track, I learnt so much about SynthTemple and I can’t wait to return to work on new music.
Equipment used;
Oberheim DMX, Roland System 700, Yamaha SPX-900, Solina String Synthesizer, Roland SPV-355, Oberheim Eight Voice, Roland System 100 & Yamaha CS-80
Check out the amazing synth playground which is SynthTemple here - https://www.synthtemple.com/"

ULT-SOUND Introduces DS-4M ProMuzer
Short Demo: Polyphonic Mode video upload by Freaky Tweaky
"I tried out the ULT-SOUND DS-4M ProMuzer, which is scheduled to be released in June.
The newly added Polyphonic Mode assigns voices using the round robin method, just like a typical polysynth, so by varying the settings of each OSC appropriately, you can enjoy kaleidoscope-like changes even with simple phrases. ✨ (Granular, Reverse, and Reverb are added in the DAW as post-effects)"
Check in with dealers on the right for upcoming availability. Note this is the ProMuzer version. A few non ProMuzer versions have shown up on Reverb in previous posts here.

"Introducing the Ult-Sound DS-4M ProMuzer, a modern reissue of Toyo Gakki's DS-4 analog drum synthesizer, available in a limited edition of only 50 units. This exclusive release features a sleek new design with a custom white front panel and black lettering, blending vintage charm with modern aesthetics. The DS-4M ProMuzer faithfully reproduces the second iteration of the ULT-SOUND DS-4 - while incorporating innovative upgrades to meet contemporary music production needs.
Some features of the original DS-4 have been retained in this reissue, and we highlight them here for those unfamiliar with the original design:

Belgian Magazine Article Featuring Mario Mathy
This one is in via Jos who had the following to say followed by an English translation of the article.
"Years ago, I sent you information about Mario Mathy (I think 2019). You published it on your blog. [you can find it in previous posts featuring Mario Mathy here] Afterward, Mario Mathy's 'Jumping Dance' went viral and achieved cult status.
Since your blog has become the most comprehensive and important documented synthesizer resource online, the attached article should also be saved for future history. It would be cool if you could share it with the rest of the synthesizer community. I translated it from Dutch to English using Google Translate.
Notice in the picture below the article that the photo was taken during the period when Mario endorsed Korg.
All I can see in the picture is Korg equipment. The song 'Love Dreams' is from his first album.
I expect most of the songs from his first album ‘Hello This is Mario Mathy’ were created using Korg synthesizers (in contrary to what you would expect from the album cover showing only casio).
After his first album, the single 'Jumping Dance' was released in Belgium. 'Jumping Dance' was from his second album, 'Music-Land'.
On his second album, you can hear a noticeable difference in his sound.
This likely resulted from switching from Korg to Casio synthesizers.
Mario was my piano teacher when I was about 15 years old."
You can check out Mario Mathy's releases on Discogs here.

HAINBACH & JORANALOGUE Introduce COLLIDE 4 - The Sonic Power Of Nuclear Test Equipment
video upload by HAINBACH
"I teamed up with Belgian Eurorack module manufacturer Joranalogue to solve one of the biggest problem I had with my wall of test equipment: I could use it in the studio, but not play it live. It is just too heavy and fragile, being about 50 years. So that part of my music remained unperformed. With our new module Collide 4 I and everyone else can now take the wonderful textures and sonic possibilities of nuclear research equipment on the road.
It is based on a lock-in amplifier, a tool made to sniff out tiny fluctuations of a frequency in vast amount of noise. But Joran took the concept further and added a frequency shifter. It is module with vast possibilities, and I can only give you a small overview and intro in this video. Check out Collide 4 at your trusted modular dealer in person now."

6. Joranalogue Audio Design x Hainbach / COLLIDE 4 / audio processing / JUST SOUND SERIES (4/4)

The origins of electronic music are found within the early works of a small group of forward-thinking mid-century composers, harnessing electronic test gear to create strange new sounds. Building upon this heritage, today everything comes full circle again through Collide 4.
The first hardware release to be co-developed by acclaimed musician and YouTube sensation Hainbach, Collide 4 builds upon the lock-in amplifier concept, and brings it into the Eurorack world. These atomic age physics research instruments are known for their raw power when used in musical applications. Now, any synthesist can experience this for themselves, at a fraction of the size and weight of a vintage unit, and with full voltage control.
The result is a wholly new kind of analogue synth voice and audio processor, with capabilities far beyond what the avant-garde pioneers could have imagined. Collide 4 is an expression of Hainbach's extensive experience in exploring the deepest musical realms contained within vintage test equipment, and the Joranalogue philosophy of electronic instrument design.
Honouring its innovative dual-phase architecture, this new kind of musical generator and processor has been christened the ‘quadrature spectral computer’. The sound? Quite simply: it's smashing!
Modern, fully analogue Eurorack format re-imagining of the lock-in amplifier concept, expanded to new heights.
Pingable variable bandwidth filter with self-oscillation capability.
Pre- and post-filter gain stages, for a total of up to 130 dB of amplification!
Through-zero sine/cosine quadrature oscillator.
Hilbert transform network for frequency shifter use.

Extensive output section, including magnitude and phase analogue computing outputs.
Unique X/Y quadrature topology, ideal for stereo use.
Handsome (and useful) signal level/overload LED indicator.
CV control over everything, with temperature compensation and excellent volt/octave pitch tracking.
20 HP, 30 mm deep. Over 600 components, yet a fraction of the weight and size of a vintage Model 124A lock-in amplifier unit.
Impedance-compensated outputs with dual-colour LEDs.

Studio/Lab Update - Ushering in a New Era with In-House Production Automation
video upload by gstormelectro
"Audio + Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2024
Really excited to share this big change in the way I'm producing Eurorack modules. Last week I took delivery of a desktop SMT Pick-and-Place machine. It's an assembly robot that will help me greatly, in lieu of stuffing hundreds of boards a year all by hand using tweezers. Having spent almost a week getting up to speed I'm happy to share my thoughts about my foray with in-house production automation.
Full disclosure | This video was not sponsored by any equipment manufacturers. This machine was bought and paid for out-of-pocket for business use. All observations and opinions are my own.
Check my sweet Reverb store for module availability.

Synthetic Sound Labs Announces Soleil String Synth Pod & Modulation Orgy 2.0
Details on each follow. Check with the dealers on the right for availability.
TABLE-TOP MIDI STRING SYNTH POD ANNOUNCED
Inspired by the early vintage synths of the ‘70s such as the Elka Rhapsody and ARP Solina, the Soleil POD is a tiny low-cost Lo-Fi MIDI String Synth table-top box.
Capable of playing 4 paraphonic notes with 2 oscillator ranks per note. Waveforms are continuously variable from thick sawtooth thru variable pulse widths for more reedy sounds. The second rank is detunable for lush pads and honky-tonk riffs.
The Soleil contains built-in modulation / vibrato LFO, the depth of which can be controlled by MIDI. Attack and release envelope times are individually adjustable and share a single VCA making this a “paraphonic” instrument. A gate output jack allows convenient triggering of external effects and synth equipment, and its state is displayed by an LED.
MIDI is input via a 3.5mm TRS Type “A” jack, and responds to keyboard running status as well as pitch bend and modulation. An LED MIDI displays MIDI activity.
MIDI channel defaults to channel 1 but can be easily reset to other channels using a unique sequence from your controller keyboard at power-up, which is retained in non- volatile memory.
A fine tune control allows accurate tuning to other instruments, and an output volume control is provided. MIDI, Gate Out and Audio Out are standard 3.5mm (1/8”) jacks.
Power is supplied from a user provided +8 to +18 VDC 2.1mm coaxial jack, center positive power source, and draws extremely low current.
Quality, solder masked, fiberglass-epoxy printed circuit boards and meticulous hand- crafted assembly assure years of trouble-free service.
Synthetic Sound Labs has been in the analog synthesizer business since 1973. The Soleil Pod is the newest in SSL’s continuing line of outstanding analog synthesizer devices.
Pricing is $179.95 US and is available off-the-shelf from SSL and Distributors Worldwide.
UPDATED LFO MODULE ANNOUNCED
Just over 10 years after the release of its popular original 2260 Modulation Orgy LFO, Synthetic Sound Labs have recently released an updated and improved version.
The new 2261 Modulation Orgy has completely reimagined firmware that includes improvements such as waveform morphing and random wave slew. The new module width is now only 8 HP (half the width of its 16 HP predecessor) and is available with either black or silver faced panels.
DETAILS
The 2261 Modulation Orgy is a unique Low Frequency Oscillator (LFO) that offers unmatched modulation flexibility. It features both manual and external voltage control over LFO Tempo (speed), tempo Multiplier, Waveform and Waveform Distortion.
Eight Waveforms are produced, including Sawtooth, Ramp, Rectangle, Triangle, Sine, Sweep, Lumps and Random with morphing between adjacent waves. Waveforms may be further modified using the Wave Distort controls.
A front panel button or external Sync input allow synchronization to precise multiples of the musical beat permitting timed vibratos, tremolos, and clocking of external sequencers and sample & hold type devices. Multiple 2261s may also be cascaded to provide complex polyrhythmic modulation patterns, which is aided by use of the Clock output jack. The Clock output also serves as a powerful input clock multiplier.
In conjunction with the Multiplier controls, LFO Tempo (frequency) is adjustable from approximately 0.1Hz to about 50Hz in six overlapping tempo ranges.
The external Level CV input responds linearly and is normalled internally to +5V so that with no input, the 2261 outputs are at maximum. This convenient input can frequently save a separate VCA when doing voltage-controlled modulation depth.
A panel LED / push button shows the LFO output rate. Knobs are conveniently placed and top quality 1/8” jacks permit smooth, effortless patching.
Quality, solder masked, fiberglass-epoxy printed circuit boards and meticulous hand- crafted assembly assure years of trouble-free service.
Synthetic Sound Labs has been in the analog synthesizer business since 1973. The 2261 is the newest in SSL’s continuing line of outstanding analog synthesizer modules.
Pricing is $250 US and is available off-the-shelf from SSL and Distributors Worldwide. Silver panel – Model 2261S. Black panel – Model 2261B

"A beautiful Synthesizers.com Studio 66 Modular Synth with a KB15 Dual voice keyboard. I am the second owner and have had it in my studio since mid 2021. I will be downsizing my studio, and as a result, have decided to sell most of my synth collection. Please be sure to check other my other listings.
The walnut cabinet is in great condition - the very top of the smaller cabinet has some marks where equipment was stacked on it from the previous owner. (This can be seen in the video below) - It could easily be buffed out. Modules are in great shape, as is the keyboard. Price for a new one of these with a keyboard and shipping approaches $15,000!"

New Vaemi XFMR VCA
video uploads by Vaemi
"Vaemi's new module XFMR VCA, which is designed for Eurorack systems, introduces users to a transformer-based VCA design.
Turkey-based Vaemi (Volt Age Electronic Musical Instruments), which commercially produces synthesizers and electronic musical instruments, recently released its first module, the Osi-Op (through zero fm VCO), and quickly followed with other Eurorack modules such as Shift Register, R2R Ladder, Buffered Multiple, making a name for itself. Now, it has introduced and brought its users the new XFMR VCA module, which is handcrafted with high-quality, through-hole components and features an audio transformer in its output.
The XFMR VCA is a VCA with linear curves. It has two separate audio outputs, such as the classic Op-Amp and the Transformer Output feature that gives it its name. It is AC Coupled and designed specifically for audio signals, making it a VCA module that you would want to use at the end of your chain. You can use it to add saturation, harmonics, and EQ to your patches made with the Osi-Op and through zero fm techniques, or use it for a clean range if desired. This wide range of options will be loved and make you feel comfortable.
Additionally, the XFMR VCA has an expander that allows you to expand it up to 3 channels. With the expander, you can have two more exponential VCA channels, which you can use for frequency modulation of oscillators or in other places you need them.
In studios, preamplifiers are equipment that can properly raise the microphone or line signals level without distorting or adding noise to the sound. However, when recording analog synthesizers, we tend to lower the sound instead of raising it because they have very high outputs. At this point, we thought that one of the most important things that preamplifiers add to recordings, other than gain, is audio transformers.
The XFMR VCA also has an EQ stage. This will provide great flexibility when finalizing your last patch, especially in multi-channel patches, and will provide a more accurate and clean sound in live performances.
Vaemi aims to create systems that can comfortably be used in today's electronic music and popular synthesis techniques such as additive, FM, Formant, Subtractive synthesis, and will continue to shape and evolve with new module designs that will be released in the coming year.
You can visit the website www.vaemi.net to check out Vaemi's products and get more detailed information. Additionally, you can follow Vaemi on social media and take a look at promotional videos, features, and sounds of new modules.

Morton Subotnick Documentary Completed
First announced back in 2017, the upcoming Morton Subotnick documentary has been completed.

Subotnick: Portrait of an Electronic Music Pioneer
We are thrilled to announce the completion and world-premiere screening of “Subotnick: Portrait of an Electronic Music Pioneer” (or “Subotnick” for short), our official bio-documentary on revered avant-garde music composer, and electronic music pioneer, Morton Subotnick. We could not be more proud of the film, and can’t wait to share it with all of you. We also take great pride in the fact that Mort has given his full approval of the finished film. We are truly humbled by that!
Our world-premiere screening for the film will take place in early-November at a very special event. This is truly going to be a night for the history books, and you can expect full details in an event announcement next week.
About the film:
Through a series of candid interviews and illuminating conversations with key figures from his past and present, Subotnick provides an overview of this fascinating composer’s rich life and uncompromising career. Over 5 years in the making, Subotnick is a first-hand account, and an artistic portrait, of this seminal composer, who’s approach to art, and outlook on life, reveal a unique thinker with a fiercely individualist streak. The film narrative moves along two parallel lines; exploring a year in his life as he creates and shapes the multi-media chamber opera “Crowds and Power,” while simultaneously exploring his past — going back in time to his days as a child prodigy on the clarinet, his disastrous stint in the army during the Korean War, founding the San Francisco Tape Music Center, and culminating in his breakthrough recording of “Silver Apples of the Moon,” the world’s first electronic music composition specifically created for the record medium. Featuring several live performances from around the globe, captured in glorious surround sound, and augmented with innovative liquid-light psychedelic effects, Subotnick is a multimedia experience that highlights and celebrates one of the world’s most influential living composers.
An update for our Subtonick Indiegogo supporters:
For those of you who contributed to our Indiegogo campaign for Subotnick, please check your inbox (/spam folder) &/or log in to your Indiegogo account, to read a more extensive update on the film's completion, and for those of you still waiting on delivery of an Indiegogo perk (namely, the film itself, whether on a physical disc, or a digital download), the update includes information about that as well.
Update:
Subotnick will premiere on November 3, with a truly special screening / live performance event at the legendary and historic Kino Babylon theatre in Berlin, presented alongside CTM Festival and Ableton. Morton Subotnick, now 90 years old, is not only the subject of our documentary; he will also be taking part in an audience Q&A alongside Subotnick’s director, Robert Fantinatto, and finally, treating us to a rare live A/V performance of “As I Live In Breathe,” in collaboration with longtime visual collaborator Lillevan.

About the concert: Morton Subotnick & Lillevan – “As I Live and Breathe”
Between 1961 and 1980, Morton Subotnick’s principal work as a composer was devoted to the development of electronic music as a studio art. The first four years of that period were spent with Don Buchla designing and building an appropriate instrument with which to make music specifically for recorded formats, to be heard in one’s home. The work which brought Subotnick celebrity was Silver Apples of the Moon (1966-7), which marked the first time an original large-scale composition had been created specifically for the disc medium – a conscious acknowledgment that the home stereo system constituted a present-day form of chamber music. Later, Subotnick began creating works for electronics and instruments and large-scale multimedia projects. In the last decade, technology has made it possible for him to bring equipment onto the stage and perform in public.
The work technique and process of the last decade of his creativity has resulted in As I Live and Breathe, which Subotnick feels will be the ultimate fulfillment of his public performance; one of the last, if not the last, of his public performance works. Centered around Subotnick’s breath – which becomes ever more musically and visually ornamented, only to end with a single, exhaled breath – the work is meant as a musical metaphor for the composer’s life in music.
