"The SoundForce SFC-OB is a class-compliant boutique USB MIDI controller dedicated to OB-style synth plugins.
Features With 37 rotary pots, 41 switches and 45 LEDs, you can finally control your virtual instrument in an instinctive and fun way. Create better synth sounds easier and improve your overall experience. A couple of extra “USER” controls are available to be freely assigned to additional parameters, for example Reverb size, Delay time, DAW FX sends levels. etc… The controller sends out standard MIDI cc messages and can be used with any software that is MIDI-mappable. A web-based control panel app allows the user to change the cc messages number for each control, change the MIDI channel and load the different plugin modes.
Plugin modes Although the controller can be used with any software that can be mapped to MIDI CC messages, the SFC-OB has been specifically designed to work with the most popular OB-style synth plugins. Set the controller to the right plugin mode using the control panel. This will ensure that every switch on the SFC-OB is fitting the plugin used as well as possible. Build quality The controller is assembled in The Netherlands with parts from Europe and Asia. It is built to last and withstand intense usage on tour and in the studio. SoundForce has an excellent track record for its controller line, with many units built and very little registered issues and repairs. The enclosure is made of 100% sheet metal and is manufactured by Grawart (http://www.grawart.pl). The case is made of bent steel and powder coated in black. The front panel is aluminum, also powder coated and screen printed with scratch-proof white and blue ink. Walnut wood side panels of 8mm thickness are fitted to both sides of the controller. On the electronics and firmware side, the controller is powered by the same STM32 Cortex-M micro-controller platform used successfully in previous products, insuring a very high level of compatibility with different computers and DAWs. The devices have been even used successfully with iPads.
2-way/1-way communication As with previous controllers, users can enjoy 2-way integration using the latest Arturia OP-Xa V. This means that the controller interface can be updated when presets are changed in the plugin, when plugin instances are switched or even manually on demand. The controller even accounts for discrepancies between a plugin pot-position and a controller pot-position, and implements pick-up or smoothing modes to avoid juming values. This allows for an improved and tighthly integrated workflow. Other traditional 1-way MIDI CC mapping is available for the brand new GForce OB-X, SonicProjects OP-X PRO-II, DiscoDSP OB-Xd and Synapse Obsession. Those modes, even though more limited, still offer a fantastic new hands-on experience for virtual synth users.

This demo was recorded dry straight to Pro Tools, with no external FX, save for some light compression and leveling for the purposing of uploading to YouTube. What you hear is what you get! Of course, users are encouraged to add their own FX, such as chorus, reverb, delay etc. to the sounds. Julian “J3PO” Pollack is a Los Angeles-based pianist/keyboardist and producer described by Timeout New York as a musician who “deftly balances virtuosity with tenderness.” Julian is known for his innovative use of keyboards and synthesizers in jazz, fusion, hip-hop, and electronic styles of music. Julian has toured extensively with the legendary artist Marcus Miller, as well as performing with artists such as Talib Kweli, David Sanborn, Michael League, Eric Harland, and others. While I believe that no software emulation will ever capture every single detail and nuance of the original hardware, Arturia has a done a great job with this virtual synth, paying homage to the original Oberheim OB-Xa. With the additional features, modulation, and array of quite superb digital effects that the Arturia OB-Xa has to offer, this instrument has become a go-to synth in my digital arsenal. Similar to Sequential's new "vintage knob," the Arturia OB-Xa has controls under the hood to give variation to each voice, including pitch, filter envelope, filter cutoff, and more.

"The Oberheim OB-Xa is one of they vibiest synths of all time, in my opinion. This video is an exploration of tone and sound, hopefully capturing the essence of the beautiful pads, strings, plucks, and soundscapes that the instrument is capable of creating. Some patches are factory and some are presets I've made. The Prophet Rev 2 has become one of my favorite synths of all time, due to its incredible modulation capabilities and pure sound. Although the Rev 2 sometimes gets overshadowed by its more expensive siblings such as the Prophet 6, OB-6, and Prophet 5/10, I have found that with a little time and careful programming, the Rev 2 stands up to the others. In many situations, it actually outshines them. "While not copying originals, some of the features were taken to a better point. Continuous blendable multimode filter (HP-Notch(BP)-HP in 12 dB mode and 4-1 pole in 24 dB mode). 32 and 64 bit versions included.
OB-Xd is based on the Oberheim OB-X. It attempts to recreate its sound and behavior, but as the original was very limited in some important ways a number of things were added or altered to the original design.
The OB-Xd was designed to sound as good and as rich as the original. It implements micro random detuning which is a big part of that sound. However, it was not designed as a self-contained completely independent soft-synth. It needs to be contained within a VST framework where things like transposition, automation, layering, arpeggiation, etc., are available.
Also, like many synths of the OB-X's generation, the OB-Xd has no internal effects so its sounds and textures can be greatly enhanced by the use of additional processing like chorus, reverb, delay, etc."
