BTW, anyone know what gear this is?

Update via brian in the comments: "It is a UE-100, a tube driven, single channel parametric EQ made by Klein and Hummel in the early 60's (1961 to be exact). I also found a link to it's schematic in German [here]."

Buchla 100

Via this auction.

Details:
"SYNTH WAS PURCHASED ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO, IT WAS PURCHASED USED. IT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED IN MY STUDIO ALL THE TIME, IT HAS SEEN LITTLE USE UNDER MY OWNERSHIP AND I THINK IT’S TIME SOMEBODY ELSE HAVE FUN WITH THIS ONE AND I NEED THE MONEY AS WELL. SYNTH COMES WITH A BUCHLA MANUAL, LOTS OF PATCH CORDS. SYNTH WORKS FINE BUT IT MIGHT NEED CALIBRATING BY NOW.

MACHINE WAS KEPT IN A DUST AND SMOKE FREE ENVIROMENT.

Buchla synthesizers are the classic creations of Don Buchla, a circuit designer who produced synthesizers when they truly were analog beasts. Buchla started making his first synthesizers on America's west coast for the purpose of simplifying the tedious process of creating "Musique Concrete". Musique Concrete can be thought of as the predecessor to Electronic Music. It was a form of music in which recordings of various sounds on tape were cut, spliced, distorted, and manipulated in various ways before being spliced back together into something that should sound like music...almost like super old-school sampling & sequencing! This concept was the driving force behind almost every Buchla synthesizer made - an electronic device that can create some basic sound, manipulate it, tune it freely, and sequence it into organized sound, hopefully something musical! With that in mind, Buchla synthesizers were among the first to use indivudally tuneable keys for limitless micro-tuning possibilities, analog sequencers, and complex waveforms other than basic sine, sawtooth, and square waves.

Ambiosonics

"What is it? A nice mix of ambient and groove orientated electronic music created absolutely live on stage.

Where and when does it happen? At "Die Bank", Mueller Strasse 43, Muenchen, first floor, every third thursday of the month."

Title link takes you there. You'll find images and mp3s. BTW check out what looks like a joystick or switch where the volume knob on this Roland JX-3P should be. Not sure if that's just the pot shaft minus the knob or something else. Click the image to see it larger. If anyone knows more about it, feel free to comment.

I almost didn't post this as it's technically not synth but I figure there are a few Ableton users out there that should know this. I saw this earlier on CDM and now Gearwire. Check out both for details.

Roland TR-808 MIDI Mod

No title link, just two shots of a Roland TR-808 with MIDI mod sent my way via Neuro.

And an Oberheim DSX thrown in for good measure. I always thought the bass drum kicked in New Order's Blue Monday. I always assumed it was a 909 when I first started rediscovering synths. I was completely surprised to find out it was actually the Oberheim DX line, specifically I believe it was the DMX.

MPC 1000 OS Update

Via Gregory Shiff.

"In "MPC land" these days is that a mysterious Japanese guy has created a boot-leg Operating system for it [Akai MPC 1000] that adds many new features. More info can be found at: link or better yet on the MPC forum. Personally I haven't messed with the new OS. I use the MPC live and don't wanna chance instability (the official OS, while not perfect is pretty good)."

BTW do check out Gregory's site for mp3s and more info on his music. That's his MPC 1000 in this shot.

EML-200

Click here for shots pulled via this auction

Details:
"A very old-school semi-modular synthesizer expander module designed as an expander to complement the EML 100 and EML 101. It's monophonic with dual oscillators for a fatter tone. Truly an old school instrument which is as old as 1969! It's not too pretty (they can be found in either blue or silver) but nicely designed and laid out. There are 31 knobs and over 60 patch points! With a little patching, even people new to analog synths will be able to start getting sounds out of the 200. Some additional features include two ring modulators and a spring reverb.

Note however that the EML 200 was designed as an Expander module to interface directly with other EML synthesizers. Today, you can use it with analog synths other than EML with the properly modified CV/Gate connections and converters (its oscillators are a non-standard 1.20v/oct). More valuable today as a collectors item rather than a piece of studio kit.

The Electrocomp 200 is a 2-VCO monophonic synthesizer expander module. It did not come with a keyboard but as an expansion module for the 100 or the 101, which included a keyboard. The Electrocomp 200 features two VCOs, which have outputs for sine, triangle, and pulse waveforms, and a noise source. There is a spring reverb, a low-pass VCF, a high-pass VCF, an ADS envelope generator, a ring modulator, a mic preamp, and a dual 3-channel stereo mixer.

The eml-200 came in 2 colors, blue and silver. The later ones were silver and the original ones were blue. The blue 200s were also built into larger cases and were a bit heavier than the more recent silver ones."

Note the auction states the Korg Poly 61, but the cassette clearly has Poly 6 printed on it. The Polysix wasn't spelled Poly 6. Anyone know more about this?

Waldorf Blofeld and Stromberg Initial Specs

The product pages for the Waldorf Blofeld and Stromberg are up along with the Zarenbourg and Phoenix edition Qs. Looks like the Blofeld is very close to the Stromberg aside from the hardware and add on modules. I did a quick A/B of the features and the following are the main differences I was able to identify:

Stromberg:
- external audio signal
- analog filter with analog distortion*
- surround delay
- tube distortion**
- output configuration switchable between stereo and surround

* Only with optional analog module a-filter with 16 analog filters.
** Only with optional analog module valve, number of tubes not decided.

Labels

I've added labels to all archived posts. You can see a list of labels to date on the bottom of the right of the site under the Blog Archives. If you click on one all posts with that term will come up. I currently have it ordered by frequency of occurrence. Kind of interesting to see what I have come across the most often since I started the blog in July of 2005. Note that I pretty much blog what comes to me either on the lists, people sending me things or other. It's not just me searching on MOOG. : )

Currently the labels are primarily manufacturers as that was obviously the first thing to come to mind. Note that I simply ran a search for the terms on the list and if a post came up, it received the label, so there will likely be a few that make you wonder why the particular label is there.

Also, I am open to suggestions on labels to add. I believe right now the functionality on Blogger is limited to one list, so I can't break out unique synths under each manufacturer (I need to clean some those I started up). If I add individual synths to the list you can imagine how long it will get, so for now my plan is to just put up manufacturers and obvious things that should be there. For example, I'll probably add MP3s, Video, and YouTube shortly. Update: I added MP3s and Video. I labeled all posts with YouTube with Video. And Video beat out MOOG.

If I missed anyone obvious, please comment. I was seeing double towards the end of this.
