How to Boost a Kick
via translucencecs in this VSE thread:
"The way to do it is to EQ your kicks with very little sub. It gets lost because it's inaudible.
The way to make a kick drum really SPANK in a mix is to kill the lowest sub completely, boost low audibles and some high frequencies. For use on the ES-1, try EQ-ing your favourite kick sound before sampling it or copying it to a memory card and on to the ES.
For a quick and easy example, using a 10-band graphic EQ (it approximates to something that a lot of people have), try the following values:
30Hz - as low as the value can go (I use a setting of -36dB)
60Hz - boost by 1-2dB
125Hz - boost by 2-4dB
250Hz - boost by 2-4dB
500Hz - cut back - I use a setting of -3dB
1kHz - cut further back - I use about -5dB
2kHz - boost by 3-5dB
4kHz - boost by 4-6dB
8kHz - boost by 6-8dB
16kHz - leave at 0dB
You'll need to approximate these for other numbers of bands, or parametric EQs, etc. If it helps, draw a curve on raph paper to see what this shape looks like, then apply that shape to your EQ module/unit/software/plugin.
Also, you may find that the boost a 4kHz drowns vocals out, so you may want to tweak that band down a little.
BTW - these may sound like weird values to use, but seriously, TRY it!"

100h Monome Coming

* black walnut base enclosure, measuring about 10.8 inches on each side, about 1.4 inches tall
* anodized aluminum top plate, once again
* new keypad design engineered from the ground up, with several improvements and different feel than the 40h
* the grid pcb prototype was so expensive i think it made me ill, ha
we don’t have enough keypads to fill the entire plate, hence the above photo. we’ll be showing the prototype at the makerfaire in may.
we don’t expect to be shipping until early august. we may consider taking preorders on the first 100 units. we’re uncertain on the price because we haven’t secured all part sources and contracts, but we’re expecting to run between $1200 and $1500. (we’re of course hoping it will be cheaper.)
35 units left as of this posting. wait time of about a week before shipping."

DaevlMakr Daevl.Plugs

Each has its own strengths depending on source material, but every Daevl.Plug will transmogrify anything: voice, bass, guitar, synthesizers, drums, choirs of heavenly angels... you name it."
daevl.sixcylinder pictured
"Three dual-mono amplitude oscillators in a cat's cradle delay network, daevl.sixcylinder creates shifting, pulsating terrains, from ultra slow oscillation rhythms to synthetic audio rate tones. Source audio is amplitude modulated by three pairs of independent oscillators, each available as sine, triangle or sample and hold. A single value controls crosstalk among all oscillators in the network simultaneously."

Sequential Circuits Prophet VS with Flourescent Display

"Here's my Prophet VS keyboard, which I have just retrofitted with a
vacuum fluorescent display by Noritake. Because the VFD is thicker
than the stock LCD by almost 3/8", the lengths of all the standoffs
between the front panel, the front panel PCB, and the switch PCBs
have to be increased. The pots and LED display have to be stood off
as well. Other important details: a blue filter for the VFD, a
neutral density filter for the alpha numeric LED display, double
stick tape to secure the filters, extra long pins to connect the
switch PCBs at their new mounting height. The most time consuming
part was selecting and ordering all these parts, installation was
done in a couple of evenings.
I'm not generally a fan of putting blue LEDs in old synths, but the
Prophet VS did come from the factory with a blue backlit LCD, and has
blue front panel graphics, so what the heck. The trick to installing
blue LEDs is choosing the right resistor value. If you just do the
math and install the recommended value, they can be almost blindingly
bright. Right now they are at a very comfortable brightness, though
I may change the resistors one more time to match the LED brightness
a little more closely to the VFD.
I hope you like it!"
Indeed. Wow!

Chromanoff

via Martin on the Rhodes Chroma list:
"I keep working on it. The only trouble is that I have not enough time to do it faster. You can find a very short story about it at: link
I have a big deal of software written and tested. Hardware part was tested on pcb-test-boards. I am building the prototype unit these days.
As I worked on the project I eventually decided to build sort-of controller computer that can be extended with modules. The info on the website is a bit outdated. The major change is that it will not use XML for configuration files, as it generates too much overhead. And instead my own scripting language, I am considering using forth interpreter - ie. a very cool programming language from beginning of computer era. By doing this the unit can be programmed to do anything, depending on what program you load from a mmc card. Also, the prototype unit has built-in a USB port.
The cost of components (for core system with chromanoff module, excluding analog CV) and the pcb is below 100EUR. The big LCD plays a big role in it."

Comment Moderation
Update:And comment moderation if off. New rule. If you find a comment offensive you can request it to be removed. How do you do this? You post anonymously requesting the specific comment be removed and I will remove it. If you don't want your comment removed, figure out how to communicate more effectively.
I just enabled comment moderation. You can still post anonymously and I will be pretty liberal. Anyone with an account should not notice much of a change aside from a slight delay between when you comment and I click the publish button to make your comment live. If you can stand behind your opinion, you have a right to share it in my book, however if you become a consistent nuisance to others, including me, I will moderate your comments. So far NO ONE with an account has crossed that line. Anonymous comments that are constructive, humorous, or other will continue to come through. I don't want to deny any of the entertainment, however anything I identify as trolling or overly offensive will not go through. Again, I plan to be pretty liberal and a troll to you may not be a troll to me, so I'm going to enforce a simple rule. If you want what you perceive to be an anonymous troll comment removed, you can post your own anonymous comment to request that comment be removed and I will consider removing it. If I don't I will comment why. For example not everyone has the same taste or expectations and/or if removal of that comment will cause further comments to lose context they will most likely not be removed. However further trolling will not make it through.

Sugar Bytes

It just takes a rightclick on a control and complex parameter rides with internal and external controllers become a joyride.
The internal Multi Effect with two chained FX devices give the Unique sound the desired polish.
Oscillators
The direct and powerful sounding oscillators are the sound source of unique. The Triple Saw and the Triple FM algorithms cover a wide range of sounds, which can be achieved using just a few controls. The noise oscillator with inbuilt filter can be used in a tonal mode, the right choice for the vowel filter...
Filters and their modulators
The outstanding feature of Unique is the Vowel Filter mode, the actual intention behind this project. The oscillator sound can be transformed to vowel formants in many different ways. The juicy filters can also be used in classic mode, so Unique is fitted for standard situations as well.
Each of the five filters with an internal analog signal processing, has five individual modulators for creating interesting Vowel and Filter movements. The modulators can be triggered in many different ways, for example with the lowest note played, or the first note played or even with the sequencer clock or the arpeggiator. The internal LFO´s have fade algorithms for rate and intensity, one more stunning Unique feature.
Controllers:
The internal controllers section that contains a recordable XY field
is easy to manage with just a rightclick on any control.
A remoted parameter is easy to identify because it turns around.
Multi Effekt:
The effects section contains two chained multi effects, each of them with six effect algorithms."

CMS ARP 2600
Click here for shots via this auction.
Details:
"Inspected, calibrated and serviced by Phil Cirocco at CMS in August 2002. Has been in storage most of the time since. Phil rebuilt the power supply and installed one of his CMS 4012cx VCF modules. He cleaned and calibrated the entire system. All sliders are capped, smooth and undamaged. This system is 100% functional. All circuits other than the VCF are unencapsulated for those of you who desire further modifications. This also makes the synth fully serviceable. This version of the 2600 is best because of the superior filter and circuit accessability. The tolex has minimal wear and the faceplate has but one very small defect. One of the keyboard latch clips is missing. This set has matching 0487 serial #'s and was purchased from the original owner. Includes several ARP 2600 patch cables, ARP AC cord, CMS checklists, ARP potted VCF module (it still passes 60%) and copies of the (2) owner's manuals & patchbook."
