Computer Music (Synthesizers, Synclavier) 1986 Pt. 3
YouTube via cowsill2x2.
"Only a minute or so more of the program I recorded in 1986. Not as interesting as parts 1 and 2, but still worth watching for its place in the digital and computer music timeline."
Korg MS-20 - Independent melodies
YouTube via Newueel
"This is the Korg MS-20 playing two independent melodies at once. All sounds are coming from the MS-20 only!
Both VCO's use different keyboards for creating independent melodies. VCO 1 (CV) is played by the secondary keyboard using the ESP. VCO 2 (CV) is played by the MS-20 keyboard.
Just in case you wonder the secondary synth is a Korg Triton ('99).

Mystery Circuits Micro Casket
via Mike Walters of Mystery Circuits"It's a new instrument I finished about a week ago, as a birthday gift for a friend. It's called Micro Casket. The circuits come out of those musical birthday cards, and each had its clock resistor replaced with body contacts. The songs are the ET theme, Superfreak, and Macho Man. The audio causes the red LED to flicker under the jewel lens, and there is a 1/4" output."
Beautiful design, awesome tunes. ;)

YouTube via mysterycircuits
"Built for Nick Speak's 40th birthday. The Micro Casket's sounds come from 3 circuit bent musical birthday cards. The first card plays the E.T. theme, the second plays Super Freak, the third plays Macho Man. Each circuit is identical, and declocked. Touching the metal contacts with the center metal contact affects speed and pitch of each song. Audio controls a red LED under the red jewel lens. The gear controls volume when using 1/4" output.

Yamaha DX100 jam
YouTube via grondo2001.
"In this video I'm doing my usual drill- a drum loop + bass and EP sounds provided by the DX100. Then I'm just flicking through mainly my own programs that I created along the years. I also do some on the fly programming- who said FM programming was a nightmare? No fancy audio processing. I ran the DX through the Korg mini KP for reverb and at the end of the video for manual gating FX.For more details go to shepit.blogspot.com"
Novation X-Station 61 - Demo 1 - Presets
YouTube via mikamulperi.
"Just browsing through some presets and testing with Korg TR61.
For those who are yet to decide between Micron and microKorg I say: Buy Novation X-Station and you'll be saved from lot of trouble. All the knobs and sliders you'll need. Also USB-audio/midi-interface included. Runs on batteries / USB-power / PSU."
Oberheim OB8 ARP 03
YouTube via OB8rushes.
"3rd installment of Oberheim OB8 arpeggio rushes. This is again a free running, latched chord. The OB8 is in split mode and I use the high/low balance to create the dynamics in the pulses. Heavy FM from the LFO to just about everything it can."
The Mighty Boosh - Naboo & Bollo's Drugs Song

KORG SQ-10 Sequencer
SN 153375 via this auction.
Cool green knobs.
"A very good old-school sequencer from Korg. Designed for the MS series synthesizers and using Korg's CV / Gate control the SQ-10 sequencer can really surprise you with some groovy basslines. Use the knobs to adjust and build up a sequence. Sure it's limited to 12 steps (with a max of 24) but when you hook that up to your MS-10, MS-20 or MS-50 you can get some pretty cool TB-303 like stuff happening. Because the SQ-10 outputs CV (Control Voltage) it can be connected to the Oscillators, VCF filters or LFO's of your MS synths for even cooler tricks. Using a CV / Gate converter allows you to use the SQ-10 with other Roland, Moog, Sequential and even MIDI synthesizers. It's definitely a fun instrument which allows you to program basslines like they did back in the early days!"
Circuit Bent Guitar Synth
"This is a one of a kind Bent Guitar. The body is hand made from 3 project boxes and the circuit is from a teddy bear that simulates the sound of a heartbeat inside a womb. It has its own internal speaker. The only problem is that the circuit is to unstable to use a AC powered amplifier, if you do it takes on alot of noisy distortion which sound pretty cool but you can't get that clean sound unless you use it's own speaker or a battery powered amp. So to play it on stage you will have to mic it through a nice battery powered amp."
YouTube via cdbarbuto.
"This instrument is completely tunable. Every button is tunable to any note with a range of about 6 octaves."

PC3 Sneak Preview VA1
YouTube via Kurzweilmusicsystems. Sent my way via Gord.
"A little a taste of those VA1 oscillators... The first sound uses 32 detuned saw layers!"
For more background on the VA1 see this post. Originally the Kurzweil VA1 was going to be a flagship knob laden virtual analog monster. It is now a plug-in board for the new PC3.
Moog Analog Delay MF-104z
YouTube via ProGuitarShopDemos.
"The MF-104Z soundz fantastic and like all Moogerfoogers it has controls that allow you to vary the sound in a variety of ways that you can only do with a Moogerfooger.
Controls include:
Drive and Output Levels
allow you to set-up the Z to match the type of signal you want to delay from low level signals (vocals, guitar) to strong signals (studio console output, drum machine). The Z is designed to work with them all.
Delay time: from slightly less than 50 msec to slightly more than 1000 msec.
Mix: Pot Control from completely Dry to completely Wet or anything in between.
Feedback Control
mixes a portion of the delayed signal with the signal from your instrument. Feedback control can generate a single echo, sustaining echoes, or echoes that build up in chaotic ways.
Switchable Internal Loop / External Loop
selects the feedback path. In the Internal Loop position the feedback path goes directly from the output of the delay back to the input. In the External Loop position the feedback path goes through the Loop Out Jack and the Loop In Jack. This gives you an opportunity to insert signal processing in the feedback path, thereby enabling processing of the echoes as they are generated. Very cool with another Moogerfooger (unbelievable with the MuRF)."

Blovachord - Novachord Emulation on the Waldorf Blofeld
via Boele of SCD on the Waldorf list:
"This sound is trying to emulate the Hammond Novachord, a pre war *synthesizer*. Yes, pre-war synthesizer, you're reading that right. Besides my Blofeld blabla, it's quite an interesting view/read.
http://www.discretesynthesizers.com/nova/intro.htm
The sound I am talking about (but all Novachord sounds have that moody athmosphere) is here:
http://www.discretesynthesizers.com/nova/mp3/nova3.mp3
The Blofeld is producing this one:
http://www.synthmusic.info/mp3s/blovachord.mp3
Specially in the low regions of the keyboard is getting so darn good!
And remember, this is a bare Blofeld. No FX, no compressing/limiting or whatever. Pure Waldorf!
It's modulated wavetable stuff, it's nice filters in series, it's Waldorf! I mean, play one of Stefan's teasers after this one and you understand the enormous amount of sounds possible with this white thingy!"

Stockhausen RIP
Karlheinz Stockhausen passed away this Wednesday, Dec 5, 2007. He was a pioneer of electronic music. You can find his official website here and you can read more about him and the influence of his work here.
Stockhausen Interview
YouTube via racon.
Some of the musicians Stockhausen influenced via wikipedia:
"Jazz musicians such as Miles Davis (Bergstein 1992), Cecil Taylor, Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Yusef Lateef (Feather 1964; Tsahar 2006), and Anthony Braxton (Radano 1993, 110) cite Stockhausen as an influence... The Beatles included an image of Stockhausen on the cover of their 1967 Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band album. Rick Wright and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd also acknowledge Stockhausen as an influence (Macon 1997, 141; Bayles 1996, 222). San Francisco psychedelic groups Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead are vaguely said to have done the same (Prendergast 2000, 54), though Stockhausen himself merely says the former band included students of Luciano Berio and both were "well orientated toward new music" (Texte 4, 505). Founding members of Cologne-based experimental band Can, Irmin Schmidt and Holger Czukay, actually studied with Stockhausen[citation needed], as did German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk (Flur 2003, 228). New York guitar experimentalists Sonic Youth also acknowledge Stockhausen's influence[citation needed], as do Icelandic vocalist Björk (Guðmundsdóttir 1996; Ross 2004, 53 & 55), British industrial group Coil[citation needed], and British techno artist Aphex Twin."
