Ookpik Ebbe+Flut patching demos

via Ookpik:
"I don't know if you're interested, but I've got a couple of short/sweet audio clips of Airbase clean and through the Ebbe and Flut. The wet version is a pretty good example of what you can do with the EuF's patches, at the core of it the patch involves both filters FMing each other, with filter 1 at a very low frequency and high resonance. Env1 controls the LFO rate, and is itself triggered by the output of the distortion circuit. The LFO is set to modulate the envelope times in Env2. While you are checking out the links and downloading the samples, you might want to check out all the cool CsoundXO stuff that has been happening on the OLPC XO laptop:

Over these past two months the CsoundXO Developers - especially John ffitch, Victor Lazzarini, Andres Cabrera, Jacob Joaquin, Cesare Marilungo, and Greg Thompson have really pushed out some new and important tools and activities for the XO. Links to some of these are below.

A most important result of this development initiative is the fact that John and Victor got the CsoundXO subset of Csound5 to be FULLY SYNCHRONIZED and TOTALLY COMPATIBLE with the current release of Public Csound (and automated the process so that they will ALWAYS be in sync!) and Andres has a CsoundXO manual that is fully synchronized as well!!!!!

Pink Floyd - On The Run attempt on Alesis Ion synthesizer

video upload by adzy31

"Me playing a version of Pink Floyd's "On The Run". This one I did without the original track playing in the background. it's just one take, i didn't have time to add all the random talking and footstep noises and panning bass sounds and backwards guitar played with a mic stand etc etc... but maybe that'll happen at some point.

it could do with a bit more variation in the sequenced sound but i'll just have to keep experimenting with all the magical features of this synth.

btw for anyone who is interested it is fairly possible to use this synth's tracking generator as a crude step sequencer, hence this video - instructions can be found in the alesis ion/micron Yahoo group, message number 15215. I used a patch from 'uralmoto2001' (to whom i'm very grateful :)) which I found in the files section of the group, with a few edits, as the basis for this video.

'This is what I’m using to control Ableton now. All arcade hardware, aluminum top panel by FPE, and a nice wood case courtesy of my man Michael Yates. It uses all key commands through a custom driver to handle playback, effects, editing, warping, UI, mouse clicks, scroll messages, and more, with a lot of tweaks (some strobe, some send double messages, etc)'"

Last day for Limited Edition AFG pre-orders

"Just a quick note to let everyone here know that Tuesday, March 25 will be the last day to pre-order the Limited Edition version of the Livewire Audio Frequency Generator.

We have definitely exceeded our expectations for pre-orders, but we've decided to leave it open for two additional days, due to overwhelming demand and some paypal cart problems (too many orders!).

Again, you can pre-order your AFG by going to www.livewire-synthesizers.com or simply emailing Shawn Cleary at shawn at analoguehaven.com. Existing customers of Schneiders Buero, MESI or Moog Audio can reserve their Ltd. Ed. AFG directly with these dealers. Also, customers in Japan can contact Fukusan Kigyo Co. (www.fukusan.com) to inquire about pre-ordering an AFG.

Thanks to everyone for the great response and support of Livewire products... it has been extremely encouraging.

Ohm Force Frohmage - Free Low Pass Filter

"Sorry, did someone say FREE! Yes indeed. Ohmforce's most affordable plugin offers, as you would a expect, a unique palette of sounds, combining lowpass filtering and analogue crunch with a bundle of special features.

You can easily tune the filter to resonate with specific notes in your music, and the built in harmonic multiband feature adds tons of warmth to your sound. For extreme fun, delay effects can be applied across the filters at the turn of a single knob, creating swish phasing or weird gliding echoes.

Finally, why not dial in some distortion. Whether you like your music to scream in pain, or simply crave that phat, analog tone, Frohmage's final overdrive stage is waiting to be abused. Oh, and did we mention that it's free?

Core features
Highly resonant low-pass filter
Cutoff frequency unit selection : Hz or musical note
Up to 15 additional bands, harmonically distributed
Delay on each band for unique phaser effects
Distortion stage, with two routing schemes
Very fine MIDI control (PRN and NPRN sent or recorded by Frohmage are 14-bit accurate)
Low CPU load
And as usual on Ohm Force products
Useful presets instant variable transitions where all the parameters switch from the old value to the new one in a ballet you won't forget!
MIDI automation: It allows control of all parameters from *any* MIDI source and records its movements. With the MIDI feature, it's also possible to adjust the LFO phase to get accurate tempo synchronization and to obtain totally musical and rhythmic effects. All RPN and NRPN data sent or recorded are 14-bit accurate. This feature is not available on demo versions but is featured on the Frohmage free version, instruments demos or every standalone versions for you to try.
Easy MIDI configuration with Auto-Bind feature. Select a knob on the screen, activate the Auto-Bind and move a controller knob on your MIDI device: the parameter will be automatically bound to the chosen knob.
Fast configuration: Save MIDI configurations into files and reload them to avoid repeating the same operations each time you load the plug-in. Advanced MIDI support with autobind feature and fast configuration
Tempo synchronization: Instantly matches the exact beat of your track
High quality DSP algorithm: The greatest sound quality. See for yourself with any demo version or check out the samples.
Sampling rate up to 384 kHz.
Revolutionary graphic user interface! Big handy buttons which are more precise and smoother than you could imagine... With our SubPixel technology there is more definition.
Move several buttons at once, with group selection and side-click. Advanced GUI full of live-performance features, such as flying knobs, preset morphing, and grouped parameters..."

Spectral Audio Neptune

images via this auction
"Spectral Audio Neptune Analog Mono Synth & MIDI-CV converter
The Neptune is an all-analog mono synthesizer with plenty of features to keep the sonic explorer happy. Real knobs and switches make it a joy to work with live, and the inclusion of the built-in MIDI to CV converter means it can be used to interface modern MID gear to older analog equipment. The Neptune also includes an audio input for processing external signals (guitar, vocals, drum machines, etc.) through the Neputne's sound- shaping circuitry. This particular unit is gold-faced, and in like-new condition. Here is the conclusion from Sound On Sound magazine's review of the Neptune:

"The continuing popularity of analogue synths is founded on two main features: their sounds, and the immediacy with which those sounds can be created and tweaked. Spectral Audio's Neptune achieves pretty well in both respects. Sound-wise, it's a reasonably versatile monosynth with a few unusual features, which make it particularly suited to the production of weird noises. And although there are no patch memories, and the controls don't transmit MIDI data to be recorded in a sequencer, it's a breeze to use, what with every parameter having a dedicated (and clearly labelled!) knob, switch or button. Those seeking to add a bit of genuine analogue sparkle to their studios will not regret putting the Neptune on their auditioning list." (read the entire Sound on Sound review here)

Bananalogue Serge WVX

images via this auction

"Awseome collection of wave folders in one compact Frac format module. Read all about it at the Bananaloge website here. Bananalogue makes some of the most well designed and higest quality modules available."

From the Searge site: "The WVX is based on the classic Wave Multiplier module designed by Serge Tcherepnin. Top and bottom sections of the unit are independent and transform an input wave in various ways. The effect is non-linear and useful on both audio and control voltage range wave forms, the most pronounced effect coming from low harmonic content waveforms like sine and triangle.

The top section has DC and AC coupled inputs that may be used alone or together. The signal from Out 1 of the top section adds odd overtones. Out 2 and 3 are from the Lockhart folder.

The bottom section is a full wave rectifier, transforming waves to positive voltage with even harmonics. Out 2 is a "squared" version of Out 1."

genoQs Nemo

More info is now available on the genoQs website.

"Nemo is a high-end MIDI step sequencer, adding portability to the highly acclaimed functionality and user friendliness of Octopus. It is in many ways an Octopus in disguise, and one that feels equally well in a backpack or on your lap!

It features the same sequencing lighthouse features that Octopus users have enjoyed for years, including polyphonic steps, self-modulating and cross-modulating sequences, freely editable musical scales, user editable runtime directions, full-scale MIDI recording, and much more.

Nemo’s tactile and visual feedback, as in Octopus, is a physical experience so typical for traditional musical instruments. You know already that music is about your body as music is being felt, heard and played with Nemo. And the numbers behind it all.. no display? Well, do you really care? Yes, computers love them. We love light, color, and most of all music!"

Digital VCO

via Eric on the SDIY list.
"This is a voltage controlled DDS, implemented with a Cypress PSoC (Programmable System-on-Chip). It uses standard 1V/Octave control voltages over a 0-10V range and generates 8 different waveforms with a +/-5V swing as output. Output frequencies from 20Hz-20kHz are possible, and falling-edge sensitive hard-sync is also provided....

It was my 'freshman' SDIY project and a good introduction to the ins & outs. I like the idea of the PSoC, but the MCU is a bit underpowered, especially when it's running ISRs to handle all the housekeeping for the various peripherals. The ADCs & DACs are built out of Switched Cap blocks and don't have particularly fast conversion times either. It would be great for low-speed CV stuff thought - LFOs, EGs, etc. and I've got some ideas on the back burner for going further with some of those functions." EWI Solo 1 (Paul Kerry)

YouTube via RoadRunnerLaser. via fischek.
"Paul Kerry demonstrating the amazing versatility of the EWI 4000s... This is part one of two. This is the start of the recording. Part two is probably slightly more interesting than part one. I made this recording because I wanted to record the riff so that I would not forget it. It's currently just a work in progress and I'm developing on the idea at the moment. (A version of this piece was played at Whistle Binkies - I now call this piece "Finally Live") The only instrument being played is the EWI. No drum machine, backing track or external equipment. The EWI is hooked to the amp via a radio transmitter. The instrument sound I'm using on the EWI, is one of my own custom settings that I designed to be an 'electronic didge'. This is the instrument that 'lacollll' referred to as my "grandma's fartophone". The sound was designed to be very 'quacky' and responsive to changes in breath because I wanted to use it, as I am doing in this video, with didgeridoo playing techniques. This particular version of that sound has the EWI's delay added to give me a form of 'note-repeat'. With the delay enabled, I can then play both the rhythm and the melody by alternating from one to the other, the delay keeping the rhythm going while I play a bar or two of melody. I normally prefer to play this sound without the delay because I like the response of the instrument and playing it clean gives a clearer impression of the way the instrument behaves. The technique used to make the sharp 'quack' is hard to describe accurately but it's based on the traditional didgeridoo playing technique called 'pulling'.

Didge players often describe this kind of playing with the syllables 'do-ro do-ro' as this approximates the action of the tongue. This tonguing technique is what I am using to create the rhythm. The sharp punchy quacks from playing this particular sound with that technique is the noise you are perceiving as a drum-beat. The effect is enhanced by the fact that it is layered by virtue of the EWI's internal delay. What you are hearing is purely a result of a combination of the EWI and playing technique"
