Roland RS-09 analog string organ
"The Roland RS-09 is a polyphonic analog String/Organ synthesizer made in Japan in the late 1970's / early 1980's. Similar but Superior to the Saturn 09 which can only produce an organ sound. This early Revision 1 Is Built Like a Tank To last, its later incarnations had all plastic keys, with a little moulded lug to retain a short horizontal return spring, the keys on this model are metal backed, with a stout steel plate which attaches to the longer vertically mounted springs. every key has a urethane rubber bumpstop, & employ a more substantial contact system, than the later variants. It is composed of two distinct parts: one ORGAN part and one STRING part. The two parts can be played together or separately. There is also a nice built-in ''ensemble'' effect. The ROLAND RS09 is an ideal string/machine for those who want to enjoy a nice typical synthetic violin sound of the 70', without spending a small fortune on a Solina string ensemble. The Roland RS09 is found in productions such as The Cure, Talk Talk, Simple Minds and aphex twin The unit has STEREO & MONO Outputs, aswell as Headphone Jack, & Organ Raw Signal Out & Gate out. A sustain pedal socket & An Audio IN Socket. This combination of Outlet & an Inlet, make the Unit extremely verstaile as part of a system using other devices."

Buddha Machine - iPad edition

If you are new to the Buddha Machine, it is a palm-sized plastic box that plays ethereal music loops composed by the Beijing-based duo of Christiaan Virant and Zhang Jian, aka FM3.
The physical device has been described as “Beautifully useless” (New York Times) “Mesmerizing” (Pop Matters) “Addictive, hypnotic” (Santa Fe Reporter) and “Defiantly rough” (Wall Street Journal)

Instad of having seperate open and closed hi hat buttons, you can use the slider the same way a real drummer would operate the hi hat pedal allowing you to get any sound between open and closed AND record it into your pattern."

John Foxx & The Maths Live Setup - Gear Tour

Be sure to watch through the beginning for the gear tour. Tons of synth spotting. He gives a good comparison of the ARP Odyssey and Minimoog. The Yamaha CS1X gets a mention too! It's fun digital PCM synth not to be confused with the AN1X virtual analog. Icy strings. Benge who has contributed quite a bit to this site [see here] comes in at 9:07. See My Blog It's Full of Stars for more. Don't miss Benge's Twenty Systems. The CD came with a book filed with incredible studio pics and history.

Wayne Miller on the Wurlitzer Orbit III Synthersizer

via Nathan:
"You’ll see a young kid in a blue safari suit from a 70’s TV show.
Suit told me this organ is equipped with a Orbit III synth.
I know no more than that except the clip is classic in every way.
This Gem of TV was discovered in a 40 years of Australian TV special – then a weekly variety show (Rove Live) tracked down this young kid and got him back on TV 30 years later. He is in his 40’s now and ripped out another great performance on his organ. I have not been able to find this 2nd performance but Wayne Miller as a kid KILLS IT.
Thanks mate."
