Cylonix

"Cylonix (maker of the eponymous vocoder software in the 90's) has returned with its own digital VCO module, the Cylonix Cyclebox.

This module is a 2-oscillator vco (with a subosc) that digitally combines the outputs of the 2 oscillators to produce many cool sounds. There are 16 different combination modes, including a bit-wise XOR mode, making the Cyclebox essentially 16 different modules in one. The Cyclebox employs digital processing, using an FPGA device, running at a 24MHz clock rate. The 2 quadrature outputs are from 192KHz, 24-bit DC-coupled DACs. The module has a wide frequency range, from 50KHz down to one cycle every 24 minutes.

Details (including an in-depth manual, sound clips and tutorial videos) can be found at http://www.cylonix.com/.

The Cyclebox will be available for purchase from the Cylonix website in January 2011 (after I return from holidays), but a limited number (5) of modules will be made available to Muff Wigglers (10 post minimum) at the discounted price of $300CDN (shipping extra) for the next week only (until December 18 - before I go on vacation). If interested in one of these modules, send me a pm here on Muffs."

Introducing the Intellijel uMod, uAtt and uScale

"uAtt: 4hp quad passive attenuator. Has jumpers to select log or lin response.

uScale: 4hp quantizer and intelligent interval module
-buttons to select scale notes
-duo leds show scale pattern (red) and realtime quantized note (green)
-Special multifunction "shift" input operates in range +/-12 semitones. Jumper on pcb to select 0-10V or +/-5V interface.
-With shift you can alter the output in multiple ways including: transposing before force to scale, transposing in scale (e.g. a value of "4" results in the note transposed 4 scale degrees instead of 4 semitones) and post scaling which allows very interesting key changes. The shift destination can be routed to the main noteA, interval note B, both or the scale root (again creates really interesting scale changes). Output B (interval note) is derived from the root note. It can be selected as +/-12 semitone value.
-interval note can also remain chromatic (not forced to scale) so that you can have fixed intervals. Nice for FM perhaps.
-8 banks x 8 scales of store/recall
-manual scale root note shifting (essentially shift scale left/right)
-** in process of adding a scale select mode via shift input
-This thing makes anything sound musical!!!

uMod
-this is the first of a series of collaborations with analog guru David G. Dixon and based primarily on the SSM2164 quad VCA chip
In his words:
Quote:
It’s a ring modulator with a twist. It’s got a “Q Balance” knob which puts it into four-quadrant multiplication in the middle, and – or + two-quadrant multiplication at the left and right. The X and Y inputs also have rectifiers which pass the –, –/+, or + portions of each signal with the flip of a switch. This, along with the adjustable multiplication, gives a whole range of sonic possibilities not generally available from ring modulators. It also makes a wicked waveshaper as well as a very interesting CV mangler. See the attached document for some random scopeshots (will post soon). AC/DC coupling switches on each input add to the possibilities. Plus, since it’s based on opposing linearized 2164 VCA pairs on the same chip, it is very accurate and has almost no CV bleedthrough (unlike most ringmods).

Special thanks to Haven, James Cigler, and Shawn for great input on these modules.

These three are in production and price/ship date will be announced soon. uScale takes more work since it requires programming and calibration but I am working 24/7 to get some units shipped before x-mas (even if it is a small batch)."

Slicing René

Slicing René from bar|none on Vimeo.

"Experimental noodling with the Monome controlling a Make Noise René sequencer via cv. Pads on the monome are influencing the movement of René in both the x and y positions as well as affecting the clock timing and envelopes. The effect feels similar to slicing loops but we are "slicing" an analog sequencer.

Watch the grid of lighted knobs in the lower right corner of the modular which is René.

SevenUpLive on the monome is controlling 8 faders that are sending OSC messages to an ADDAC Brain that is in my rack over ethernet.

andregoncalves.info/addac/

This addac brain is an excellent way to control multiple channels of cv over OSC without the need to setup a complex arrangement via your DAW and an audio interface. The fact that the addac brain is connected over ethernet means that it is a connected device on your network and can be accessed by OSC capable devices, even WITHOUT using a computer at all."

Analogue Solutions Quick Tip #01 - Utilise Europa's Legato to Activate TBX-303 SLIDE!

"HOW TO: Use the Europa's Legato feature to cause notes to slide (or overlap each other) on the TBX-303 (TB-303 clone). [www.analoguesolutions.com]

Here's a Quick Tip on how to enter Legato Mode on the Europa Midi Step Sequencer and apply slide to some of the steps, resulting in an authentic 303 slide effect.

Europa's Legato Mode slightly overlaps the notes. This ordinarily won't do much on any non-AS synth. When the TBX sees overlapped notes, it activates slides resulting in the movement you hear in the video."

Intellijel Azimuth, Mutagen and HexVCA

"Mutagen: 12HP
6x3 performance mixer
- 6 direct coupled inputs suitable for audio or CV
-each channel has a slide switch to select one of three output busses A/B/C
-each channel has a logic controlled mute. Mute generated by tactile switch or pulse/gate to the CTL inputs (pulse mode or gate mode selected by jumpers on back).
-leds show mute status
-Mute/Gate inputs accept any signal with a rising edge (could be sine, triangle, random etc.)
-Has link via ribbon cable to HexVCA

NOTE: panel displayed is a sample. They are revising them with smaller square punch outs for the switches so that they will be more flush.

HexVCA: 8HP
-6 channel VCA using high quality THATcorp VCA ICs.
-CV of each channel has led monitor
-outputs normalled to a summed output, normals broken when taken as individual outs.
-Also has inverse sum output useful for CV
-Has matching link header as found on the Mutagen for linking the two modules together. Link connects the outputs of each vca to the input normals of the mixer.
-Leds color coordinated to help keep track of channels bewteen the two.
-knobs control VCA offset (range -70db to 0db)
-6 trimmers on back of module for attenuating CV input range (or use uAtt)

Azimuth: 8hp
-Constant power panner/stereo ballance/crossfader and dual vca
-contains an additional vactrol based stereo width circuit (allows cv control of stereo material in the range of mono->stereo->extra wide via negative cross bleed.
-Bipolar and Unipolar CV inputs for the pan control
-Leds have smooth fading for displaying pan position.

Combine all three to get a VC mixer with VC stereo controls, volume and muting.

NOTE: these three modules will go into production in approximately one week but will not be ready in time for x-mas. Should ship first week of January.

Special thanks to Shawn @ AH for coaxing me into making a mixer and panner. Also thanks again to Haven and James for lot's of great ideas and input."

Flutes of Fire from The Loop Loft on Vimeo.

"The finer things in life don't come cheap. Caviar, Ferraris, Chinchilla lined-mittens, just to name a few. We believe the same holds true with flute loops. Especially when they are recorded by one of the greatest flautists to ever walk the earth, Victor "El Fuego" Machatchka. You may own his Grammy Award-winning records, or have read his NY Times Best Selling-autobiography, but until you listen to these 9 loops recorded exclusively for The Loop Loft, you won't fully appreciate the virtuosity that is Machatchka. And no, that's not reverb you hear. That's the sound of genius resonating inside of Victor's tortured soul."
