How to make a soft version of Oxygene 2 with minimal equipment : only 2 synths !
All is hand and by ear played .This is a very "light" cover ! I recorded 10 audio tracks with Presonus Studio One, but without automation and I have to add 2 tracks for noises with the Roland SH-101.
I only use Rythmus (by ElektroStudio), Alesis Fusion 8 HD, Roland SH-101, Electro-Harmonix Small Stone (Phaser) and Memory Boy (Tape Delay).
I'm beginner, and not a musician, so ... sorry for bad hand playing and tempo not respected sometimes !

Cheers from Thierry ! next step : Equinoxe & Rendez-vous ..."

New Mobile Application Transforms Every Guitar Player into a Rock Prodigy

"Interactive App Teaches and Hones Skills Using a Real Guitar, Any Guitar

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 12, 2011) – All guitar players, from beginner to advanced, can now reach prodigy status with the launch of a new mobile application, Rock Prodigy™, that teaches users how to play a real guitar, any guitar, with the help of an Apple® iPhone®, iPad® or iPod® Touch. Using polyphonic pitch-recognition, Rock Prodigy allows all guitar players to learn, experience and absorb the music from legendary rock guitarists including James Hetfield of Metallica, Jerry Garcia of Grateful Dead and Joe Trohman of Fall Out Boy.

The app immerses users in original master recordings of popular guitar-centric songs, while simultaneously providing real-time feedback as players strum along with a real guitar. The interactive app also has the ability to auto-pause and uses tab-like performance cues for all four levels of play, which show precise rhythm, timing and note durations with real-time interaction and performance evaluation.

Allowing players to learn on the go, Rock Prodigy requires no additional hardware as guitarists can play directly into their mobile devices using the built-in microphone, a standard headset with microphone or a basic line-in guitar input adapter.

'Rock Prodigy was truly created for musicians by musicians,” said Harold Lee, co-founder of Rock Prodigy and CEO of The Way of H, Inc. “By combining mobile technology, modern apps and a guitarist’s favorite bands, Rock Prodigy offers a solution to the usual hang-ups of learning guitar. Guitar masters can also learn a thing or two.'

Fusing mobile technology with a real guitar, Rock Prodigy is available for free in the iTunes App Store, with premium feature packs starting at $9.99. More information at RockProdigy.com.

About The Way of H, Inc.
The Way of H, Inc. is a music technology company based in Los Angeles focused on changing the way people learn, play and interact with music. Vako Orchestron and Eminent 1600 Orchestra - Radioactivity (Kraftwerk)

YouTube via dietervanmarcke | February 25, 2010 |

"Playing some snippets of Radioactivity (Kraftwerk) demonstrating the "Vocal Choir" sound of the Orchestron.
This sound is the exact sound (not a replica, it IS this sound) Kraftwerk used on Radioactivity and a small number of other songs.
As you can hear, I've got some problems with pitch stability. This is due to a worn out belt that connects the motor and the wheel that actually spins the record.
More info about the Orchestron: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orchestron

The thing underneath the Orchestron is the Eminent 1600 Orchestra. This is not the intrument used by Jean-Michel Jarre (that's the 310U) thought it features the same sounds, and has a built in String Ensemble which is more or less the same than the Arp Solina String Ensemble. As you can see, I've got some problems with the contacts of the bass pedals.
It's also a pity that you can only hardly hear the sound of the bass pedals. That's because I captured this with my Nokia N900, the audio and the video...

And, sorry for the bad playing. :-)"

And besides being remarkably well preserved for being nearly forty years old, it seems to be fully functional. Everything seems to work as it should. Phatty Tuner Alternate Scales Editor

YouTube via MoogMusicInc | January 11, 2011 |

"Chris Rosser takes us on a sonic world tour with the Slim Phatty and Little Phatty. For decades, Moog instruments have been used by adventurous musicians to map the sonic universe. Now they can be used to explore the more exotic reaches of our own planet. With Moog's Phatty Tuner software, musicians can retune each note of the octave and compose in scales once available only to players of hard-to-find world instruments. Indian, Chinese and Turkish scales are now easily accessible along with Meantone, Pythagorean, Just and other historic and experimental temperaments.

Available for the Slim Phatty and coming soon for the Little Phatty with OS v3.0, this free download makes experimenting with alternate scales a breeze. Tuning data is easily editable and is displayed as a ratio, frequency and in cents. Scala files (www.huygens-fokker.org/scala) can be imported and exported for use with other tuning software. An unlimited number of tunings can be saved on your computer and the synthesizer's hardware can store up to thirty-two different tunings; enough to take you around the world and back again.

If your musical explorations actually take you around the world, the Little Phatty and Slim Phatty's convenient size and universal power supplies make them ideal travel partners.

Visit www.moogmusic.com/slimphatty for more information."

OSCeleton With Quartz Composer

OSCeleton With Quartz Composer from Matti Niinimäki on Vimeo.

"Testing out OSCeleton with Quartz Composer.

What is OSCeleton?
"As the title says, it's just a small program takes Kinect skeleton data from the OpenNI framework and spits out the coordinates of the skeleton's joints via OSC messages. These can can then be used on your language / framework of choice."
github.com/Sensebloom/OSCeleton

I had to make a small Max/MSP patch to convert the OSC messages to a format that QC understands. You can download it here:

I wonder if you can get this going with The Missing Link.

Kawai SX-210

via this auction

"The filter on this synth is magical - same as the Korg Polysix. Great way to get that classic analog sound for less than you'd spend on some of the more popular synths like the Juno-60, Polysix, etc. 8-voice polyphony. Stackable DCO waveshapes with sub-oscillator. Portamento, Glissando, Mono and poly modes. Synth is in nice physical shape, fully functional except the end-caps have some chew on them. It's been serviced, battery replaced, key contacts cleaned and it works 100%. The only downside to this synth is the ensemble effect will overdrive (distort unpleasantly) pretty easily, which is common on the Junos as well (I have had 4 Juno-106s and 3 Juno-60s), but the Junos seem to have more headroom. I can't be sure if this is a factor of age or a design quirk, as I've never played another SX-210, but in practical use you have to back off the VCA volume if you get distortion as the VCA runs before the Ensemble effect."

Endangered Audio Gristleizer version 1

via this auction

"For the first time ever, Throbbing Gristle's legendary effects unit, The Gristleizer, is now available in its classic tabletop form. Though the original design by Roy Gwinn is over 30 years old, The Gristleizer had never seen commercial production until the summer of 2009, when Endangered Audio updated and improved the circuit. The tabletop version is designed to sit within hand's-reach for easy parameter control, e.g. while playing synthesizers. In essense, The Gristleizer is a synth module that works with any audio signal. The audio path is modulated by an LFO using four selectable waveforms (ramp, reverse ramp, triangle, & square), functioning in one of two paths: VCA (voltage controlled amplifier) or VCF (voltage controlled filter). Ranging from light and sweet tremolo to extreme, raunchy ring mod, The Gristleizer is a 100% analog, hand-assembled unit built to last."

See this post on the history of the Grisleizer.
