"Spectrums Symphony", Moog Matriarch, DFAM, Arturia Microfreak, Minifreak, AudioThing Noises

video upload by Vöstok-one

"When the Arturia Microfreak drives the Moog DFAM. That gives you something more musical than just a groove machine. So much to explore with this Moog if you take time with it.

This electronic symphony reminds me this strange landscape we found lost in the middle of Mongolia. The specter of a lost serenity, absorbed by the sky.

I hope you will enjoy this song as much as I had fun playing it."

"Secret Softly Sigh" Moog Matriarch, AudioThing Noises, Arturia Minifreak, DSI MophoX4

video upload by Vöstok-one

"Ambient and cinematic, drop into the black sand shore of mystery.
Moog Matriarch Lamentation and Audiothing Noises for the strange and mystic feeling. The Arturia Minifreak for this ... I don't know ... chord generative and the Mopho X4 for the pad.
Have fun with this almost 10 minutes of dark drone endless reverie shadows dance.

Verse 1)
Upon the blackened shores, where whispers roam,
Where windswept tales are carved in ancient stone.
In the misty veil, secrets softly sigh,
Beneath the northern sky, where dreams can fly.

(Chorus)
Black sands beneath my feet,
In Iceland’s embrace, where mysteries meet.
Where the wind’s wild song entwines with the sea,
In this land of endless reverie.

(Verse 2)
Through the veils of fog, a world unseen,
Where shadows dance and memories convene.
In the echo of waves, a melody untold,
In the heart of nature, where stories unfold.

(Chorus)
Black sands beneath my feet,
In Iceland’s embrace, where mysteries meet.
Where the wind’s wild song entwines with the sea,
In this land of endless reverie.

(Bridge)
In the depths of the night, where stars ignite,
In the soul of Iceland, where magic takes flight.
Through the misty morn, the secrets call,
In this timeless land, where wonders enthrall.

(Chorus)
Black sands beneath my feet,
In Iceland’s embrace, where mysteries meet.
Where the wind’s wild song entwines with the sea,
In this land of endless reverie.

(Outro)
In the whispers of the wind, I find my song,
In Iceland’s embrace, where I belong.
Forever bound to this ancient land,

I hope you will enjoy this song as much as I had fun playing it."

Playlist:

1. O Z Hall: Zebra Synth
Dive into the enthralling world of synthesizers and witness O Z Hall's outstanding entry, "Zebra Synth", in the Synthesizers.com Composition Contest. Crafted with unparalleled precision and technique, this remarkable composition combines an array of captivating sounds that will take you on a breathtaking sonic journey.

Hall masterfully utilizes three distinctive patches in "Zebra Synth" to create an immersive soundscape. The first patch features a drone made using a Q106A oscillator, which is meticulously processed by a wave folder. Another oscillator, intertwined with linear FM from the wavefolder output, results in a fascinating "clang tone" that is beautifully amplified by a digital reverb.

In the second patch, a sequenced voice is artfully produced by employing two re-paneled Q106 oscillators. One output is channeled into the input of the linear FM, which subsequently provides intriguing timbral variations. The Q119A sequencer's 3rd row masterfully controls a Ratchet effect, adding even further depth to the composition. An expertly-applied digital delay effect enriches the output of this patch.

Lastly, the lead voice is ingeniously designed using the Q169 Dual Oscillator with Pulse Width modulation. O Z Hall skillfully manipulates the 24db/oct low pass filter in real-time to deliver an electrifying performance. The extended digital delay effect ties the entire sonic experience together.
O Z Hall's "Zebra Synth" draws its arsenal of modular synthesis tools from the Synthesizers.com catalog, including Q106, Q106A, Q119A, Q171, Q148, Q127, Q169, Q168, Q167, Q114, Q174, and Q175A modules. The creative process has been meticulously executed, showcasing how these modules can be combined to engineer a rich and dynamic sound adventure.

Making a Tape Loop to Make Music With: Sci-Fi Ambient Buchla Modular Synth

video upload by The Galaxy Electric

"This stream is very special as we kicked the whole thing off with one of our favorite techniques: making a tape loop! We were on hold with CVS and the hold music was beautifully distorted, so we recorded it with Jacqueline's phone and then we recorded it onto an 8 Second tape loop. We then built an entire improvised electronic music set out of it. The spontaneity and uncertainty involved with creating a tape loop on the fly adds to the magic and as you will see and hear, we took the ball and blissfully volleyed it to and fro. The resulting performance is quite the cosmic journey through space and time. Our buchla inspired modular, nord modular g1, tascam porta 02 mkii, handmade tape loops as well as Jacqueline's signature dual Boss RE-20 Space Echoes are all in play here."

Roland AIRA Compact J-6 / T-8 / E-4 - DEMO by gattobus

video upload by gattobus

"Roland's birthday party it's not over!
A few days ago they sent me these little magic boxes to try them out and in less than an hour of tweaking, I came out with this song!!!
The song title "A Big Tiny World" is because they are BIG sounding TINY boxes indeed! :D
They are:

- J-6 Chord Synthesizer
- T-8 Beat Machine
- E-4 Voice Tweaker

Their sound quality is astonishing! It's amazing to have the power of ACB technology in such a small form factor...
Everything you hear in this video was played and recorded in real time, no post processing or FX was added.
I had so much fun, I hope you like it!"

Late Night Eurorack Patching and Jamming! (No Talking)

video upload by Electronisounds Audio

"Just Patching for fun. No Talking.
Thanks for listening! :) :)

#eurorack #livejam #prizmprime

Patch Notes:
Drums: Samples from Tip Top Audio "One" modules and "Prok" 12bit FM drum modules.

The Erica Synths "Black Sequencer" allows me to create RANDOM melodies in real-time and save them to new pattern slots, so I can create new basslines LIVE and then go back and forth between them.

The bass voice: Mazzatron VCDCO / WMD Javelin Envelope / WMD Carbon Filter.

The MAIN filtered chord stab/sequence is a chord coming from Mutable Instruments Braids, running through the Patching Panda Moon Phase Filter and then into the Erica Synths Acid Box III desktop filter, then into the Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio Reverb!

The Second Chord Stab is coming from the Qubit "Chords" module.

The ever-changing-magic-ride-cymbals are my own custom ride samples, loaded into a Tip Top audio "One" sample module - I can easily roll the pitch, and change ride samples in the fly with knobs.

After about 45minutes, I'm all warmed up and jamming my ass off! WOOT!!

This session was a blast!
I think this is the best I have ever done when starting from almost nothing and just GOING FOR IT!
I'm really learning how to work my system a lot better after watching TROVARSI last weekend!

0:00 Getting started and patching up
15:22 Starting to JAM with the session (still patching...)
37:06 Jamming, Dean-Style!"

6 OVERDRIVES, 6 HPF, 6 LPF & 6 PAN POTS - GO!

video by Sunshine Jones

"6 OVERDRIVES, 6 HPF, 6 LPF & 6 PAN POTS - GO!

// I’ve read review after review, vintage and modern just slamming the Boss KM series mixers from 1978 as “garbage.”

Hahahaha!

My stars. Perhaps if you have never known the abandon of a warehouse, or the magic of a massive field or beach lit only by stars, and the heady transformation of everything into everything else and you’re attempting to track your folk trio to cassette tape then yeah. I can understand being confused.

The Boss KM-6A (mine is here beautifully re capped, with a new power switch, and new elegantly dim VU meter bulbs) turns house into techno, and techno into mayhem with a pre set input switch for gain overdrive on the fly, a simple high and low EQ, a pan pot and a volume.

We don’t need a compressor, we don’t need a collection of distortion pedals, we got it all right here in this brilliant box to bring us from a deep starting point, way past the stars, and home again.

I wanna go.
Let’s go!"

OBERHEIM OB-Xa Analog Synthesizer (1980) *Magic Fly* and Happy 2020!

Published on Dec 28, 2019 RetroSound

"(c) 2019 vintage synthesizer demo track by RetroSound

My last post in 2019. I hope you guys had a good year. When yes than you are lucky. When not, the next will be better surely. I wish all of you a good 2020. Peace and Love.

The track 'Magic Fly' by the French group 'Space' from 1977 was probably one of the first synthesizer tracks that I consciously noticed. These sounds burned into my brain very early on. No idea why.
I wanted to cover the track, but it's actually not a real cover. I interpreted it a little differently and also played it. Everything comes from the #Oberheim #OBXa #Synthesizer , apart from the drums."

Synth Jams by Jay Hosking

Published on Jul 26, 2019 Jay Hosking

Spotted the first video in the playlist above on discchord.com. The Playlist contains 21 videos. You can use the player controls to skip around. Descriptions for each are below. All videos feature various gear so you should be able to get an idea of some of the capabilities of each featured. You can check out Jay Hosking's music at https://jayhosking.bandcamp.com/.

Note, more will likely get added over time. The following playlist is as of this post:

1. Jam w/ Vermona PERfourMER MkII, Elektron Analog Rytm MkII, OTO Bam, Styrmon Big Sky, Fugue Machine
A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by some pretty tough news that has me sentimental.

I loved the Elektron Analog Four MkII so much that I picked up the Analog Rytm MkII. My feelings on the Rytm are mixed. On the one hand, it's missing that spontaneity and spark of units like the Arturia DrumBrute Impact and Teenage Engineering OP-Z, with no readymade performance effects, roller bar, or global randomization, and a slower workflow. On the other hand, I really like its analogue sound engines, any unused tracks can be converted into impressive analogue mono synths, it does beautiful things to samples, and like all Elektron boxes it integrates the effects into the sequencer really nicely.

As for the Vermona PERfourMER MkII, I'd been pining over it for ages, and it was fun to finally tinker with it. The Perfourmer definitely excels in the mid- and high- range, and I love how the independent voices making really interesting voices for chords.

Vermona PERfourMER MkII + OTO Bam — Three synths (left chord note, right chord note, melody)
Vermona PERfourMER MkII + Strymon Big Sky — Bass chord note synth
Elektron Analog Rytm MkII — Drums, samples, sample melody, punchy bass
Fugue Machine (iOS) — Sequencing
IK Multimedia iRig Pro Duo — MIDI out from iOS

Written and performed within a 24-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little sidechain compression on the Perfourmer (to emphasize the sound that the Rytm was already making), and compression/limiting on the master.

25. KnobCon 7 (2018) part 25 - Sat night jam session
After party all-night long jam session with lots of *excellent* players from all over the United States!! Lots of fun, with incredible vintage instruments like 1963 Hammond B-3, '70s Clavinet, Yamaha CS-50 and more. Everyone invited to join in and jam (I joined in later in the evening)
26. KnobCon 7 (2018) part 26 - Real Fake Knobs
Such a cool idea by Izzy! To spiff up your modular setup, grab his real fake knobs / panels http://www.realfakeknobs.com
27. KnobCon 7 (2018) part 27 - Vinicius Electrik & Key Magic
Excellent modular synth company from Brazil and two great guys to boot - I had the pleasure of sitting at the same table as Vinicius and Fabio at Knobcon's dinner and we talked about synths and music extensively all evening. I bought a Lizard multi mode dual VCO from them as soon as I heard it right and there at Knobcon, it's that good (and versatile). They also produce a full system that includes other modules. Vinicius and Fabio produce these modules and distribute them all over the world - To listen to and buy their modules: https://viniciuselectrik.com
28. KnobCon 7 (2018) part 28 - Zeppelin Design Labs

29. KnobCon 7 (2018) part 29 - Therevox
Wonderful, wonderful instrument. Played it five minutes at the show. Ordered one right away. http://therevox.com
30. KnobCon 7 (2018) part 30 - Vendor hall walkthrough 3 (G.A.S. galore)
More incredible gear presented at Knobcon 2018
31. Knobcon 2018 - That's a wrap
Until next year

Always interesting to see what people include on these. How many "synthesizer" albums are there out there? I don't know but Discogs has a few listed. This one has a few interesting tracks you should recognize, and because this is such an awesome site, I created a YouTube playlist of the album for you above! :) An interesting side note is that Aurora, from Nova in 1982, features software ynth maker Rob Papen!

Meet OTTO - New Raspberry PI Based Multi-Engine Based Synth Inspired by the OP-1

Details via Github:

"Making electronic music is awesome! But for most of us, it requires a lot of setup, a lot of moving a mouse around on a laptop that's probably not quite equipped to handle realtime audio processing. Don't you wish you had one single device, which was xbuilt to do it all for you, easily and on the fly?

Introducing the OTTO!

The OTTO is a complete hardware and software solution, with synths, a sampler, effects, sequencers, and studio modules. The interface is modal, easy to use, simple, but most of all, it encourages experimentation. The graphics are quirky, and the workflow is minimal.

That sounds cool and all, but haven't I heard about this before?
— You

Yes, the OTTO is heavily inspired by the OP-1, in fact it started off as a direct clone, but these days we try to take a different spin on an idea that is fundamentally the same.

At this point it might be important to mention that the OTTO is not, and will never be, a commercially aimed product. It is open source by nature, in both hardware and software. If you want an OTTO, you're going to get your hands dirty, if not with the code, at least with the hardware.

Now that proper introductions are made, we would like to invite you to our discord server where we hang out and discuss all things OTTO.

The OTTO is basically going to be a Rpi3 (or other similar boards, we are looking into that), a screen, a DAC, 4 encoders and some 30+ buttons/keys. Some of us are currently building prototypes, and the formfactors and features vary greatly. Below this you see two OTTO hardware prototypes. Feature wise they are similar, but the first one is hand-wired, lasercut, and uses arduino pro micros for handling the keys/encoders. The second one is 3D printed, uses a PCB with onboard microcontroler etc.

As you can see, the OTTO can be built very differently depending on your skills, your avaliable resources and tools, and your priorities. You can also have other features than these two, for example the DSP all supports velocity sensitive keys.

You can find more info about the first prototype design on the "Otto Proto One" on this dedicated repo, and @cester-ino's over at his repo

The software

The software is written in (very) modern C++, and the goal is to be as modular and flexible as possible.

Technology
Core C++ 17 (you will need a very new compiler.)
Graphics C++ wrapper on top of NanoVG, with swappable backends, currently GLFW and EGL are available.
Audio/MIDI Designed to be swappable, though currently the only one available is jack.
DSP C++ and Faust (compiled down to C++)
It is possible to run the software on the desktop, with keybinds emulating the physical buttons and encoders.

For build instructions, check out the wiki.

Backbone

While OTTOs may differ on a lot, some things are fairly set in stone :

A Raspberry Pi (or similar) at the core, running a minimal Linux distro.
A >= 320x240 RGB screen, preferably AMOLED.
~30 hardware buttons, so nearly every feature has its own button.
4 colour coded rotary encoders (full credits to the OP-1 for that idea), as the main controls. Each screen has a maximum of 4 variables which will be coloured corresponding to their encoder.

"MAGIC FLY by french synthesizer band SPACE from 1977. This is a classic and I was bound to make a cover of this magnificent track sooner or later.

I won't get into trouble if you share!

I just got the Waldorf Blofeld, so I brought it in to do the pads, and I think it does a nice job :)

I got my beloved Commodore 64 for a little title screen in the background.

Enjoy the track mates!

As always live play with synths and sequencers.

Used in this track:
