Hydrasynth Deluxe Vintage & Analog Sounds

video upload by Synth Universe

"The ASM Hydrasynth Deluxe is a powerhouse synth capable of creating fat, warm and rich vintage sounds. Here is a selection of dual-layer patches from the Synth Universe Hydrasynth Deluxe Sound Banks Volumes 1 & 2. Each sound is inspired by the character of vintage analog and string synthesizers. See below for more information and the link to purchase these sounds.

The pads, strings, brasses, poly synths, sines, basses and leads emerging from the Hydrasynth can rival those of great synths from the past, which has been unexpected! With two sound engines, the Hydrasynth Deluxe can give you more richness and depth in a basic sound by doubling it and making adjustments to each layer. You can create powerful and organic sounds with multiple oscillators working together in unpredictable ways, using the oscillator mutants, filters and modulations.

All the sounds in this video are available to purchase as part of the Synth Universe Hydrasynth Deluxe Sound Banks Volumes 1 & 2.

Sequential Prophet 5/10: a Musical Exploration

video upload by Synth Universe

"A musical exploration of sounds and timbres on this classic analog synth using custom-created patches. All the sounds you hear in this video were created by me on the Prophet 10 and include brasses, pads, keys, bass, poly synth, sines, chimes, strings and FX.

I wanted to retain the raw sound, so in the making of this video no chorus, modulation or thickening effects were used (software or hardware). Note that the Prophet 5/10 has no internal effects. The only effects used were reverb (mainly the Valhalla Vintage Verb plugin) or delay (Logic native delay plugin). No EQ was used to enhance either the low end or the high end.

The Prophet 5/10 has a single mono audio output, so to create a stereo image I used old-school layering in my DAW. When I recorded each audio take, I also captured MIDI data and used this to record new tracks of the original take. Using the Vintage knob on the Prophet set at 3 means that each MIDI take has subtle differences in pitch, envelopes and filter. Panning and slight detuning of the tracks creates, to my ears, a nice rich stereo image and retains the character of the sound.

** If you own a Prophet 5 rev 4 or Prophet 10, all the sounds featured in this video will soon be available to purchase as part of the Synth Universe Prophet 5/10 rev 4 Soundbank. Please subscribe and enable notifications and you will be alerted on release.**

Although the Prophet 10 now has dual layer functionality, all the sounds in this video are single layer and could be played on a Prophet 10 or a Prophet 5 rev 4.

Sequential Prophet 5/10 rev 4 | Sound Bank Demos

video uploads by Synth Universe

"In this video I play original sounds created for the Prophet 5/10 rev 4 synthesizer. I demo patches 1 - 20 from the Synth Universe Prophet 5/10 rev 4 Sound bank: a bank of 80 patches containing a wide range of pads, strings, brass, poly synths, keys, bass, leads, tuned percussion and sines.

Each patch is demonstrated first raw in mono, as output straight from the synth. For the majority of the patches I then repeat the demo but with stereo and reverb or delay applied, so you can hear the sounds more like they would be in a musical context. Please refer to the other three videos for demos of sounds 21 - 80. The time stamps below mean you can easily access specific sounds in this video and compare MONO with STEREO.

New Roland Jupiter-80 Pics & Specs Leaked?

via the Roland Clan Forums

This one in via Soviet Space Child

Also see this post.

via wladymeer in the Roland Clan Forums thread:
"As it's meant for live performers, I don't think it's wrong at all. Especially because you could probably enter effect selection with SHIFT+ON/OFF shortcut and assign, lets say, distortion or delay instead of effect. Afterall, Juno-Stage had such knob next to high/low EQ.

Face it, Jupiter-80 is not gonna be next Fantom. Consider it more as a advanced stage piano. In other words, as a Nord Stage. I saw on one website that Nord Stage 73 costs $3.299,00 - you tell me - why Jupiter-80 can't cost the same if it's not workstation?

And here's my overview of front panel buttons:

• USB MEMORY SONG PLAYER/RECORDER - guess we can record directly on USB thumb drive?
• D-BEAM section with typical assign: PITCH, VOLUME and ASSIGNABLE
• CONTROL section with:
Arpeggio: HOLD, ON/OFF for LOWER and UPPER and TEMPO (probably tap tempo)
bellow something that's called either VISUAL CONTROL or V-LINK CONTROL and HARMONY INTELIGENCE
and last is typical Roland TRANSPOSE, OCTAVE DOWN and UP
• PART BALANCE section:
LOWER, UPPER, SOLO faders with ON/OFF buttons
I can't read what's on that white fader, but my guess is just for piano sounds. You can see there are 3 "gray" buttons saying piano, e. piano and clav so my guess that fader is just for that type of sounds.
• Then we have some MENU and SHIFT buttons below display and 4 encoders in between with display showing what they're controlling, typical DEC/INC, wheel, EXIT and WRITE on the right...
• REVERB section with ON/OFF button
• SONG PLAYER/RECORDER with usual controls (so I guess, phrase recording will be possible)

And last row seems to have next (my best guess with (?) where I'm not sure):

• ROTARY SOUND section ON/OFF and SLOW/FAST buttons
• LOWER section:
- SPLIT
- BASS
- PAD
- CHOIR
- STRINGS
- SYNTH STRINGS (?)
- BRASS / SAX
- SYNTH BRASS (?)
- WOOD WINDS (?)
- Something white labeled
- ALTERNATE ON/OFF (guess every button has two alternates?)

• UPPER section:
- PIANO
- E. PIANO
- CLAV
- CHURCH BELLS (?)
- ??? BELLS (?)
- THEATER ORGAN (?)
- GUITAR
- SYNTH LEAD
- VIBES/MARIMBA
- ACCORDION/HARMONICA
- Something white labeled
- ALTERNATE ON/OFF

• SOLO section:
- VIOLIN
- TRUMPET
- SAX
- FLUTE
- OBOE (?)
- BELL
- Something white labeled
- ALTERNATE ON/OFF
- SOLO SPLIT

Beneath keybed, there is WRITE (or maybe REC?), PREV and NEXT buttons on the ends and in between it seems that it will have SH-201 system with 4 banks up with 8 patches per bank. Hope it's just USER bank but then again... come on... it's 2011 we're talking about! What's wrong with 1000 user slots idea?"

And via IgorChristo:
"This is the advertising on Keyboard Magazine - May 2011
I've managed to get a copy of the entire magazine (I know this is wrong!) from another forum, and this ad is at the beggining of the magazine.

I beleave he got it in this leaked version of the magazine."

Update:

Original Jupiter 8 Explained

YouTube Uploaded by DanKrisher on Apr 5, 2011

"The original JP8 was a live performance synth."

And some pics from Create Digital Music's post on the Jupiter-80 where you'll get Peter Kirn's take on the new synth. In simplest terms, the Jupiter-80 is being touted as a performers' synth with the emphasis on performance and playability. The video above makes the connection with the mindset behind the original Jupiter-8.

On the synthesis front, the Jupiter-80 uses Roland's SuperNATURAL engine.

"SuperNATURAL is more than a single sound, effect, or operation. Each type of instrument, whether string or keyboard, wind or percussion, ethnic or even electronic, subtly shapes sound in its own unique way. Particular characteristics enable different forms of tonal expressiveness. SuperNATURAL provides the ability to realistically shape the physical parameters of virtual instruments in organic and expressive ways. Across the broad and varied forms of Roland musical instruments, SuperNATURAL is the gateway to a new universe of expression.

SuperNATURAL is available in many forms. There are SuperNATURAL ARX expression boards for Fantom-G, for example. First out of the gate are the stunning ARX-01 Drums board and the ARX-02 Electric Piano Electric Piano. The RD-700GX has SuperNATURAL Electric Piano built in, giving you amazingly expressive electric piano sounds. In addition, thanks to SuperNATURAL technology, all the characteristic control of acoustic organs are provided on Roland’s Music Atelier Organs."

Update: the official description:

"One of the most revered prefixes in the history of synthesis returns. Welcome the arrival of the JUPITER-80— a live-performance powerhouse that pays homage to its legendary namesake with road-proven hardware and massive sound, yet blasts into the future with advanced SuperNATURAL technology. The JUPITER-80’s expressive, organic approach to synthesis makes a new world of sound design possible with multilayered SuperNATURAL textures under the control of a full-color touchscreen and creative hands-on controllers. Experience the metamorphosis of a legend with the all-new JUPITER-80!

Powerful integrated SuperNATURAL synthesis engines designed for legendary vintage synth sounds to realistic organic acoustic sounds and more
Single Tone is equivalent to the performance of powerful single synthesizer—stack four of these to create a mind-blowing “Live Set”
Tone Blender tweaks multiple parameters of tones in realtime for complex, emotive sonic movement during performance
Fast, friendly operation with intuitive front panel and color touchscreen optimized for live performance
76-note semi-weighted synth keyboard, and 256 polyphonic voices (varies according to sound-generator load)
USB-memory Song Player/Recorder for backing tracks or quick idea capture
Easy integration with computers via built-in USB-MIDI/Audio interface

Past, Present, and Future Sound

The JUPITER-80 nods to its past with lethal, multi-layered SuperNATURAL synthesizer tones so fat you’ll need a knife to cut through it, but that’s only the beginning of what this powerhouse synth will do. Gigging musicians will love the stockpile of essential sounds onboard, including Roland’s famous SuperNATURAL Piano, strings, brass, and much more. The JUPITER-80 puts a fast-access user interface under your fingers—a dream for live performance. Its heavyweight design, complete with metal side panels, recalls the legendary JUPITER but with a modern twist.
Powerful Live Sets Featuring Four-Tone Structure and Registrations

JUPITER-80’s sound engine handles four x tones with dedicated DSP per tone as a basic unit “Live Set” for manual performance. Layering of Upper and Lower Live Sets, plus a specialized “SOLO” part, means the incredibly massive nine-tone-stack sound. Customized complex settings can be saved as Registrations, and easily recalled during live performance.
Tone Blender

You will love the deep possibilities of the stackable SuperNATURAL architecture and unique features such as Tone Blender, which tweaks values of multiple parameters simultaneously and lets you “Capture” any new combination and save it as a Live Set. Create complex, emotional textures that respond, react, and evolve like nothing you’ve heard before. Tone Blender can also dramatically enhance your live-performance capabilities by letting you assign its multiple parameters to controllers such as the D Beam."

And the official site is live. You'll find the intro video there.

"Choosing the demo for this video was a tough call, because the demo player did three totally different ones - from a Zappa-esque piece in 15/16, to a more lyrical demo, to an electro-type mashup called "Oh My God." This is the techno one, because I think most people weren't expecting that kind of sound from the Jupiter-80. Yes, it does strings, brass, pianos, and all that...but this demo shows that there's more to this synth than meets the spec sheet."

This Blog

Thought I'd put up a post on what this blog is and what it is not. Why? I always find things a bit more enjoyable when I know what they are about, and I've noticed from a few comments that some might not know what this site is about.

What it is: A repository for synth stuff I come across on the web.
What it is not: a "News" blog.

Will there be news now and then? Yep. If I come across it and post it. Will I be the first to post stuff? Depends. If stuff is sent to me that's not currently on the web, or I come across it before others then yes, otherwise all of this stuff is already out there, even when I come across it first. What might be "news-like" is any additional information I might add and/or a different perspective. What is also news is anything someone might add to the post. It just depends. I'm not trying to be a news blog, but what's interesting is a lot of this can come across as news. What's really interesting is if it is news to you then it's just that, news to you. A lot of this stuff like Vogelscheiss' site or Tapelab.org have been around for some time, but I had no idea until I visited them. I'm not on all the lists and my guess is neither are most of you as we only have so much time in the day to explore the synth universe. So, I use this blog to track all of that. It's my pulse on the synth world and I hope you find some if not all of it worthwhile. Will there be posts you brush over? Of course! We all have different interests; some will overlap, some won't. You might be on some of the same lists as me and you might not. If you saw a particular post already, think of the others that haven't. What also fascinates me is that in the synth world, old news can be new news. Think of all the history that fascinates us. For example, recently someone on the Synth Sights list was trying to find the infamous OBMx and Gibson story. People remembered seeing it but didn't remember where to find it. Well, it so happened that I put up a post with a link to it a while back, so I was able to find it and send it quickly.

So what is this blog to you? A place where you can see stuff about synths, old and new. Every now and then I hope you find a nugget or two worth your wile. : )

Waveformer

Published on Jan 18, 2019 Waveformer

Playlist:

1. Monolimp (Monologue, Volca FM, Novation Circuit)
A limping synth jam featuring the Korg Monologue, Volca FM, Novation Circuit and Zoom MS70-CDR.

The Novation Circuit is the master clock, with tempo 90 BPM. The Monologue and the Volca follow suit, but the delays on the MS-70CDRs have tempo set to 75 and 77 BPM, resulting in a limping 5/8-ish time signature.
2. Eclipse (Monologue, Volca FM, Novation Circuit, EHX720, MS-70CDR)
Total eclipse of the moon over Norway tonight. A mellow jam featuring the Korg Monologue, Volca FM, Novation Circuit, EHX720 Looper and Zoom MS70-CDR.

The chords were played into the EHX720 looper note by note from the Monologue. The Circuit is doing arp, base and drums. The Volca FM is doing a simple repeating pattern. And the Monologue is used for the solo.

Roland Announces JUNO-60 Chorus Software Effect

Press release follows:

Genuine Recreation of the Chorus Effect from the Vintage JUNO-60 Analog Synth Now Available as a Standalone DAW Plug-In

Los Angeles, CA, March 8, 2022 — Roland announces the JUNO-60 Chorus, a new software effect available through Roland Cloud. Released in 1982, the JUNO-60 is a shining star in the vintage synth universe, heard on generations of famous tracks and still loved by musicians and producers today. A huge slice of its timeless magic comes from an analog stereo chorus effect that imparts so much richness and character that players rarely turn it off. With the JUNO-60 Chorus, Roland delivers the effect's elegant simplicity and authentic sound in a standalone plug-in for the first time.

The lush stereo chorus in the JUNO-60 was specially tuned to enhance the synth’s single DCO, fat sub-oscillator, and characterful VCF. Players quickly found it to be an essential component of the JUNO’s unique voice, making it hit well above its weight and compete with more sophisticated—and much more expensive—multi-oscillator polysynths of the day. With the JUNO-60 Chorus plug-in, music producers can now infuse any DAW track with the evocative color of this legendary effect.

Like the original hardware, the software version has two push-button chorus modes, plus a third “secret” mode accessed by pressing both buttons at once. Each mode is modeled in meticulous detail, complete with variable analog noise for the full retro experience. The vintage JUNO-60 vibe is carried on further with graphics that reflect the synth’s iconic panel and distinctive wood side panels.

Adding the JUNO-60 Chorus to any keyboard sound makes it come alive. It also works great with other sound sources, including guitar, bass, vocals, and more. The plug-in is available in VST3, AU, and AAX versions for Mac and Windows DAWs, and native Apple silicon support provides full compatibility with the latest Mac computers.

Availability & Pricing

The Roland JUNO-60 Chorus is available with the Ultimate membership level of Roland Cloud or a $99 Lifetime Key purchase. All paid membership plans start with a 30-day free trial of Ultimate, to experience everything Roland Cloud has to offer, including the JUNO-60 CHORUS and more. Roland Cloud is also home to software versions of many vintage Roland instruments—including the complete JUNO-60 synthesizer—plus ZENOLOGY, ZENOLOGY FX, Zenbeats, and other inspiring music tools for modern music creators.[CR1] [RG2]

AJH Synth Modular Sound Demo by @DKS SYNTH LAB (MiniMod Eurorack Modular jam, No Talking)

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"A repost of a video by Daniele Chierichetti demonstrating lead sounds and showing some of the sonic possibilities of an AJH Synth Eurorack modular synth system. The standard MiniMod voice forms the basis of the system featured here, and this voice is directly based on the original R.A.Moog version of the Minimoog, and as such it is capable of the same classic lead sounds, the same warmth, punch, and character. However, because it is modular, it takes this voice way beyond anything it was originally capable of, opening it up to the now huge Eurorack universe, including a wealth of modules by AJH Synth.
These high-end modules are mostly based on classic vintage designs, some of which are very difficult to obtain nowadays, but brought firmly into the modern Eurorack era by a wealth of connectivity, functionality, and reliability, that simply didn't exist 'back in the day'. Also, some modern, digital modulation modules compliment the range, hugely expanding it's sonic scope."
