DECtalk PC is a speech synthesizer card designed to translate ASCII text files into synthesized speech output. From there, it can get interesting.

dectoke1.mp3

dectalk_legacy.php6

This is an external Dectalk Speech Synthesizer useable with virtually every computer PC, Mac Linux et al... This is considered to be the gold standard, the best and most well known of all the hardware speech synthesizers. There are a number of on board standard voices including "Perfect Paul” the default voice of the unit, appearing on the Momentary Lapse of Reason album. There are 8 basic presets plus a user defineable voice : Perfect Paul, Huge Harry, Betty , Rita, Ursula, Kit ,Dennis, Frank, NV (user defined). There are voices in British English and other languages available. At one time the software and voices were quite expensive but time and ubiquity has eroded the cost and it is an inexpensive proposition to design voices now.

This is a very programmable and playable useful board. It can be used as a musical instrument or voice output in place of a monitor. It is easily modified both input and output and the 7.2 rechargeable flat pack battery makes it completely hum and noise free. The power supply has a ferrite bead that cuts down in hf noise and some ESDI.

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Yamaha VL7 is a monophonic Virtual Acoustic Synthesizer with 49 keys. The unit is in excellent condition, and the OS is version 2 . I have included a Yamaha BC3 Breath Controller. I am also including a bottle of mouthpiece disinfectant; had to make sure the BC3 worked, but also needed to keep it sanitary! Please spray the mouthpiece before using it the first time. I downloaded the manuals and printed them. I realized when the printing was almost finished I hadn't set the printer pages for 'double-sided' printing, so the manuals are a bit thick.

The Bob Moog Foundation Announces “Moogus Operandi” with Erik Norlander

"The Bob Moog Foundation Announces 'Moogus Operandi' Fundraising Event featuring Synthesizer Virtuoso Erik Norlander and his Massive Wall of Doom Modular Synthesizer

April 19, 2010 – For immediate release
The Bob Moog Foundation is proud to announce Moogus Operandi, a concert event honoring the pioneering work and legacy of synthesizer maverick Robert Moog, to be held on May 27, 2010 at the Orange Peel in Asheville, North Carolina. The event will be a celebration of the Moog legacy through music, art and mulitmedia entertainment. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door the night of the event.

Northern California based synthesizer virtuoso Erik Norlander (ASIA featuring John Payne, Rocket Scientists, Lana Lane) will headline the evening, performing songs from his new album, The Galactic Collective. Norlander, an accomplished rock, electronic and symphonic keyboardist known for his command of vintage and cutting edge synthesizer technology alike will bring the Moog legacy alive with his synth-heavy instrumentals and his “Wall of Doom” modular synthesizer (so named by his roadies). The Wall of Doom, a massive analog modular synthesizer with restored 1967 Moog modules at its heart, will grace the stage of the Orange Peel as the musical and historical representation of Bob Moog's legacy of pushing the boundaries of sonic reality. This marks Norlander's first performance in Western North Carolina.

Norlander states "I have been a fan of the Moog instruments since I was kid, and I had the great privilege of knowing Bob Moog in his later years. Moog is, without a doubt, the most iconic name in synthesizers, and to many, the word Moog is synonymous with the word synthesizer. I am really looking forward to this stellar event for The Bob Moog Foundation in Asheville where we will celebrate the legacy of Bob Moog through music using his wonderful, timeless instruments."

Norlander will be joined on stage by a host of Asheville's top musicians including percussionists, brass and string players as well as a choral group of four vocalists. The exact lineup of will be announced in the coming weeks.

Opening for Norlander and accompanying musicians will be Asheville street musician sensations Blind Boy Chocolate and the Milk Sheiks featuring Dwight Hawkins (Saw, Guitar, Vocals), Nicky The Squirrel (Mandolin, Harmonica, Kazoo, Vocals), Tony Costa (Guitar, Kazoo, Vocals), Alex Brady (Gut Bass) performing ragtime, jug band, early blues & country. Furthering the spirit of celebrating musical genres and technologies, the Bob Moog Foundation is proud to feature this group whose sound incorporates the musical saw, an instrument whose sound is much like the theremin, an early electronic musical instrument upon which the Moog legacy was founded.

In addition to fantastic music, Moogus Operandi will explore the Moog legacy through visual art. The Bob Moog Foundation has issued a call to Asheville artists to donate original works of Moog-inspired art to raise funding for the Foundation through an online auction. In the week leading up to the celebration, the foundation will hold an eBay auction featuring the unique pieces of Moog-inspired art. The eBay format will be used to provide an opportunity for the local artists to have their work showcased to a multi-national audience. It will also give the worldwide community of Moog enthusiasts a chance to bid on one-of-a-kind pieces of art created in the pioneer's hometown.

The auction, which will begin on May 20th, is scheduled to close at the end of the May 27th Moogus Operandi event at 10 pm; attendees will be able to participate through bidding stations set up by CityMac. Artists can register their pieces of art through May 1, 2010 at www.moogfoundation.org/artist-registration/. Submissions must be received by May 15 at 2pm. More information about the auction can be found on the Foundation's website.

Additionally, visitors will be treated to a multimedia presentation by Gene Felice, the graphics artist who created the Moogseum 3D conceptualization for the Foundation's hallmark project, the Moogseum. Felice will be highlighting the profound impact of Moog’s inventions on the music industry and on the musicians who have taken his instruments far beyond Bob’s wildest expectations. Felice will be using media directly from Bob Moog's archives, such as vintage photos, schematics, movie clips and more.

Attendees of the event will be able to participate in a raffle, with generous prizes given by Asheville area businesses. Raffle prizes include an Ipod Touch courtesy of CityMac ($250 value), an Mp-201 Multi-Pedal from Moog Music, Inc. ($499 value) and a chance to lay down some tracks and pull shapes in a day session at the world-class facility of Echo Mountain Recording ($1000 value).

Finally, guests will be able to explore the sonic boundaries of the Moog sound in the Foundation's MoogLab interactive experience. Theremins and synthesizers will be set up in the back of the Orange Peel, with BMF volunteers standing by offering instructional advice.

Moogus Operandi promises to be a unique opportunity to be immersed in a rich musical experience that blends musical genres and showcases musical technology from its most primal form to its most cutting edge. The combination of talent that will be found on the Orange Peel stage on the 27th will be as unique as the Moog Legacy itself.

As a small non-profit, the Bob Moog Foundation creates unique fundraising events to fulfill its mission and to raise much needed funding for its three projects. The funding supports the Foundation's staff and many volunteers who are painstakingly working to carry Bob Moog's legacy forward to future generations.

Moogus Operandi is being sponsored by Asheville Brewing Company, CityMac, Echo Mountain Recording, Gould Killian CPA Group, Moog Music Inc, the Mountain Express and RBC Centura Bank. Without their support, this event might not be possible.

Erik Norlander is a self described “keyboardist, composer, producer and engineer”, but despite his humble admission, he is a prolific artist. With 32 albums under his belt over the last 15 years, he has embodied the sound of Moog and his works are a great testament to the beast that is securely encased within the heart of his levethian “Wall of Doom” analog synthesizer…a 22 oscillator custom 1967 Moog Modular. Keyboard Magazine describes Erik's work this way:

“From lightning-fast, Bach-like synth leads and arpeggios to thunderous rhythm beds and sci-fi lyrical themes (2003’s Music Machine chronicles the rise and fall of a genetically-engineered rock star, for example), Norlander’s solo work gleefully summons the operatic spirit of ’70s prog. At the same time, it displays the kind of originality, virtuosity, and cohesion best achieved by one artist taking a vision from conception to final mix.”

Erik has been a valued contributor to the foundation as well as a musician who speaks through the vessel of Moog and thus, the sound that Bob created over 50 years ago will continue to make waves through him for many years to come.

The Bob Moog Foundation is a 501 c (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to educate and inspire people through the intersection of music, science and innovation. The Foundation's goals include creating a MoogLab interactive educational experience and curriculum that teach children science through electronic music, preserving a fast decaying collection of electronic music memorabilia contained in Bob’s archives, and creating a Moogseum facility where its educational and preservation efforts will come alive in an innovative, interactive experience for people of all ages.

An important aspect of the Foundation's work is to embrace the local and international communities to which Bob was so deeply dedicated. In this spirit, the foundation works to promote the cultural richness of the local artists and musicians and to act as a converging force for musicians around the world. Moog believed strongly in the music as a unifying force. He wanted people to get out from behind the confines of their garages and home-studio headphones to bring their music to the world. He felt strongly that music is meant to be performed and art is meant to be seen. He was fond of working in his garden in his spare time, and the key to a healthy garden is fertile soil and tending. Part of the Foundation’s goal is to help create fertile minds in young people and adults with exposure to the convergence of music and science. In this time of economic crisis, when arts and music are being eliminated from the schools, the Bob Moog Foundation aims to fill a void and elevate the level and quality of music and science education; the foundation seeks the support of the local and international communities to bring this project to fruition.

Lifeforms SV-1
Analog Modular Synthesizer
Suggested Retail Price $699

"The Heart and Soul of Modular Synthesis
The Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers Lifeforms SV-1 is a complete dual oscillator synthesizer, designed to be the core of your eurorack modular system. Building on the sound and legacy of our celebrated Waveforms oscillator, the SV-1 module features two full-range independent analog oscillators; sound sources that are perfect for dynamic and inspired performances. In addition to these two high-performance oscillators, we stuffed the SV-1 with a perfectly curated set of modular synthesis tools including dual, chained mixers, a plucky, four stage envelope generator, and of course, our legendary analog state-variable filter.

The Lifeforms SV-1 is a synthesizer powerhouse, providing absolutely everything you need to create gigantic and iconic synth sounds: roaring bass, shimmering leads, lush pads and warm drones are only a few knob turns away. Instantly, out of the box, a rich feature set with a fluid, easy to understand interface empowers you to create vibrant, thick tones. Modulation and Tools sections fill out the analog SV-1 modulation capabilities with a triangle and square LFO, two sub-octave oscillators chained to the main oscillator, and noise with sample & hold.

Your Sound, Your Way
Pre-patched under the hood, patch cables are not necessary to get started. But as soon as you begin patching, you will feel the power provided by the 53 patch points and 21 knobs. By breaking each feature of the synthesizer out with patch cables, a tremendous amount of flexibility and control emerges to patch up any sound your imagination can dream up. All the tried and true analog classics are there at your disposal: sine, sawtooth, triangle and square. In addition, our exclusive and powerful blade wave on Oscillator 1 adds a unique weapon to your sonic arsenal. Deep modulation options award you complex control of nearly every function of the SV-1.

A Team Player
We’ve designed the Lifeforms SV-1 to be the perfect centerpiece of any eurorack synthesizer regardless of size. In a smaller system, the SV-1 provides a wide variety of synthesis options through a hefty set of synthesis tools. Combined with a larger collection of modules, you can unlock never-before-heard expressiveness and unparalleled control over the rich feature set of the SV-1. The ability to patch and integrate the SV-1 with other existing eurorack compatible gear gives you truly infinite modulation and expansion options.

Integrated Synthesizer Components

MIDI
We started with the core of our rock solid MIDI 3 module then modified the source code to create a feature set specifically designed for the SV-1. This MIDI to CV converter enables you to connect all your MIDI-compatible gear and convert it to control voltage right inside the SV-1. Volt per octave and gate outputs allow you to connect to your MIDI keyboard or DAW and take control of the SV-1 your way.

Extensive patch options give you access to glide, CC, and velocity. A digital clock-syncable LFO with triangle and quantized random voltage waveforms provides even more modulation options. A clock input allows you to override the internal or MIDI clock and sync to external CV and gate clock signals. A built-in arpeggiator provides all of the deep arpeggio responses from the MIDI 3, including as played, double triggered, random, and random with random gate. This unlocks another level of playability and the capacity to create complex and fresh musical patterns out of just a few notes.

Oscillator 1 and Oscillator 2
Our next-generation dual analog oscillator provides the sonic framework for massive synth sounds or deep exploration of west coast style frequency modulation. Sine, triangle, saw, and square waves are at your control, all available to modulate via FM and hard sync. As a bonus, Oscillator 1 also contains our unique blade wave. The shape of the blade wave can be controlled using the width CV input, creating a sweeping or chorusing effect. Oscillator 2 is normalled to the FM of Oscillator 1, providing jaw-dropping analog FM bass, deep percussive hits, searing leads, and thick, warm analog pads which all come to life from these two modern, organic sounding oscillators. Both analog oscillators dip well below audio rate, allowing them to function as voltage controllable LFOs.

Modulation and Tools
A wide-range utility LFO with triangle and square wave outputs is ideal for VCA or Filter frequency sweeps. Or, turn it up and release the dynamic FM capabilities of either oscillator. A Tools section provides access to two sub-octave oscillators, derived from Oscillator 1’s core frequency. Analog noise and sample & hold finish out the Tools section — the hold function is initially pre-wired to MIDI clock, and equips you to create perfectly timed, random voltage steps.

Mixer
This versatile four channel mixer comes pre-wired for fast access to Oscillator 1’s sine, saw, pulse and sub. However, you are just a patch cable away from instantly making your own unique blend of waveforms from the SV-1. The mixer can be split into two independent two channel mixers simply by patching into the top output.

State Variable Filter
Rich and thick, the sound of the revered Pittsburgh Modular Filter is unmistakable. Absolutely stunning harmonic character with voltage control over the entire frequency range. A provided attenuverter lets you dial in exactly how much CV to feed the frequency input, even inverting the input for dramatic changes in modulation. Separate highpass, lowpass, and bandpass outputs are provided as breakout options, each with their own powerful sonic timbres. Turn up the resonance for an added growl, giving your tones an aggressive edge that no softsynth can match.

Four Stage Envelope Generator
Designed specifically for the Lifeforms SV-1 with a plucky, organic feel, our four-stage analog ADSR allows you to generate envelopes with remarkable, precise control over each stage. Pre-patched to receive gate signals directly from MIDI, the gate input may be overridden by any available clock, trigger, or square wave source.

Voltage Controlled Amplifier
The amplifier section not only controls the overall level of the output, but is voltage controllable. A clean, responsive VCA, capable of everything from transparent control to mild overdrive contours audio or CV signals. The ADSR is pre-patched to the level CV providing shape to the synthesizer audio.

Splitters
Two unbuffered audio or CV splitter sections allow you duplicate your signal in creative ways, routing a single audio or CV source to multiple destinations.

Line Level and Headphone Outputs
High quality stereo headphone amplifier and monophonic line level outputs controlled by a master volume knob.

New Moog Matriarch Revealed

Published on Apr 24, 2019 Moog Music Inc

"Matriarch: Place / Time / Memory illuminates the interconnectedness between one’s sense of place, our perceptions of sound organized in time, and the impressions they leave behind.

Exploring the Moog Matriarch synthesizer from their personal home studios, multi-instrumentalist Lisa Bella Donna, Ghostly Intl. electronic producer Max Ravitz (Patricia), Anthem / Call of Duty / Assassins Creed composer Sarah Schachner and Paris Strother of Grammy-nominated R&B duo We Are KING, express 4 unique sonic perspectives on the new instrument within the context of their own creative environments."

Update:I'm not seeing the White Noise Generator, Spring Reverb, or Linear FM that are featured on the Grandmother. Interesting if this is indeed the case, and good news for those that invested in a Grandmother. Some quick diffs compared to the Grandmother:

49 velocity sensitive keys with aftertouch vs 32 velocity minus aftertouch
4 oscillators vs 2
2 filters vs 1
Dual VCA
Second simple LFO
Analog Delay
3 bipolar attenuators with ring mod vs 1
2x4 mults vs. 1x4
Mono, duo, & 4 note paraphonic vs Mono
256 step sequencer adds 4 note per step & 12 stored patterns vs 3
90 patch points (for the added modules) vs 41

And again, the Matriarch appears to be missing the White Noise Generator, Spring Reverb, and Linear FM on the Grandmother.

Update2: new hi-res image. It looks like Noise and Linear FM are there.  So we have the Stereo Delay in place of Spring Reverb.

Equipped with 61 keys and Casio’s exclusive (HPSS) Hybrid Processing Sound Source, the XW-P1 provides screaming virtual analog monophonic leads and basses, drawbar organs, complex layers, stereo pianos, drums and more to produce the sounds and real-time control any performing musician needs.

“As the epitome of innovation, value and quality, we hope our limited edition XW-P1 sparks some excitement and inspires young artists,” said Mike Martin, general manager of Casio’s Electronic Musical Instrument Division. “Our collaboration with aNYthing represents a new direction for Casio in the musical instrument business. In the future, we plan on additional collaborations with both influential artists and unique companies that will further allow Casio to go beyond sound and enable musicians of varying levels to express themselves and enjoy music like never before.”

A six oscillator monophonic solo synth is just one of the amazing sound engines in the XW-P1. Two virtual analog style oscillators, two PCM based oscillators, a noise oscillator and an external oscillator via mic and line inputs can be combined to make up a single solo synth tone. Each oscillator has an independent filter, envelopes, independent key tracking, portamento, two LFO’s and access to master resonant filter.

In addition to the solo synth, the XW-P1 Performance Synthesizer is armed with an arsenal of gig-ready sounds like stereo pianos, vintage electric pianos, strings, brass, guitars, basses, drums and more. The sounds can easily be used within the XW-P1’s step sequencer to create unique grooves and compositions.

Furthermore, the XW-P1 has four real-time controller knobs, pitch bend and modulation wheels, along with nine sliders to provide control over internal sounds and external devices. Through standard MIDI ports and with a class-compliant USB port the keyboard can be used as a controller for other instruments, including computer software and iPad® based software applications. It also includes an audio input allowing you to monitor an MP3 player, computer or other device without the need for a mixer.

The XW-P1GD will be available in October 2012 for an MSRP of $799.00 at Guitar Center and Musician’s Friend. For additional information, visit www.casiomusicgear.com.

Press Release follows:

"Synclavier Digital releases regenerated Synclavier® II trailblazer as timeless Regen desktop synthesizer bolstered by present-day DSP developments

NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA: soft-launched late last year to widespread critical acclaim at the Synthplex® synthesizer expo and electronic music festival hosted at the Marriott Convention Center in Burbank, CA, USA with pre-orders opening for fulfilment in 2023, timeless synthesis product manufacturer Synclavier Digital is proud to announce wider availability of Regen — released as a desktop synthesizer that is, in short, a real regeneration of New England Digital’s seminal Synclavier® II digital synthesizer that took the pro audio industry by storm when introduced in its initial incarnation in 1980 (evolving beyond that to blaze more technological trails with polyphonic sampling and, ultimately, DAW — Digital Audio Workstation — capabilities well before that term was invented, even), extended and enhanced to take advantage of the increased computing power available today to make it as compelling in a modern setting as the prohibitively pricey original did during its time (finding favour with top-tier film composers, record producers, and recording artists), while the considerable cost and size reductions associated with Regen’s present-day design criteria conversely position it well within reach of (almost) anyone — as of June 29…

Analog Sweden Presents Synthesizer Posters by HR-FM

"We live and breathe synthesizer, and there's not enough nice synthesizer related art to hang onyour wall. That's what we thought, and we were delighted and proud that Japanese artist HR-FM wanted to do not only one, but TWO original pieces for Analog Sweden! Together with the art we release a free track that goes with the theme.

Introductionary offer: Buy both posters for 19 EUR

AS001 DX FUTURISM - by HR-FM
Limited print, 250 copies
Size 42x56 cm, 250 gr printed on semi matte paper

The Yamaha DX7 killed the whole analog synthesizer market when it was introduced. The analog companies tried to fight the digital Godzilla, but failed like doomed dinosaurs. World dominance was inevitable with its low price and supreme stability and over 160.000 machines sold. But, itfelt like something was lost - the soul had vanished and was replaced
by digital perfection.

AS002 Analog Waveforms Strikes Back - by HR-FM
Limited print, 250 copies
Size 42x56 cm

Analog fights back. The Soul in the machine returns.

If you're a skilled artist having ideas for synthesizer related art - don't hesitate to contact us!

About HR-FM
From Yokohama,Japan residing illustrator/Artist HR-FM working with the games and Manga industryhas established the unique future fossil art-style, "By pairing incompatible time bases to create scenes I call "the future past", I express both surprise and recollection." says HR-FM.

The client list is long, including Dropbox and Rayne Longboards, and the features in magazinesand art books are numerous, most recently in the book "Illustration 2013". Read more: http://www.hr-fm.com/

Free track: DX Futurism - Adagio for Memorymoog
One of the victims of the DX7's success was the Moog Memorymoog - which was the last product Moog released before going bankrupt. Luckily for us all Moog Inc is now a resurrected company.

We found it fitting to use the Memorymoog to perform one of the saddest pieces written; Samuel Barber's "Adagio for strings" op.11, but with a twist. You might recognize the music which has been used in many movies, with Platoon by Oliver Stone probably being the most famous.

The end sample is from Tokyo the 11th of march 2011, the day of the horrible tsunami hitting Japan. The public speaker system is trying to calm the worried city.

Analog Sweden live gig 29th June
We're going to play live at the opening of artist Mary Segerfalk's exhibition "Black and Beauty". Experimental sound installation with loads of analog treatment. In Helsingborg, Sweden at Yoshio Nakajima Art Center http://www.yoshionakajima.net

We recently celebrated the 63rd birthday of one of the most ingenious and influential artists of the late 20th century. Mr. Stevland, Hardaway Judkins a.k.a Stevie Wonder. Defining multi-talent in music field, with a vibrant career that has spanned over fifty years. Stevie’s achievements will without a doubt remain an inspiration for many generations to come.

Superstition (DJ Devastate & Segerfalk Remix)

Devastate & Segerfalk reworks the classic track "Superstition" into a more modern, rhythm based, bass-heavy anthem topped with some smooth Rhodes piano. The remix is a tribute to Stevie, reworked with respect, to honour the timeless original. Cover design by artist Jonas Hilmersson.

Moog Voyager Editor / Programmer for LOGIC v4 - X

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

Available on Reverb.

See the listings for other editors.

"This software is a Virtual synthesizer programmer for use with the Moog Voyager synthesizer. It simulates the Voyager front panel in a software environment within the APPLE LOGIC audio/sequencer program (formerly Emagic Logic). To use this software you MUST have a valid copy of LOGIC on your computer (see below), a Moog Voyager synth, and a MIDI interface which connects your computer via MIDI cable to your Moog Voyager synthesizer.

This software CANNOT be used as a stand alone application under any circumstances. It will NOT run in Ableton, Reason, VST or any other host - it is not a plug-in but a single importable layer of the Logic environment.

Upon purchase, you will ultimately receive a ZIP archive of the editor you purchased for Logic. UNZIP this archive and you will have a LOGIC song document you can now open in the Logic program. Once open, you will see the editor on your screen and you can then discover the pleasures of a virtual programmer for your Moog Voyager synthesizer!

FULLY LOGIC X COMPATIBLE!

OVERVIEW:

This editor is physically laid out to simulate the Moog Voyager front panel. If you're familiar with the Voyager layout then you should feel right at home here. I've adopted certain additions including some text feedback, a RESET function, and a few other things.

All programmable functions of the Voyager front panel are represented here - with the exception of a few parameters that Moog did not designate to be included in their realtime control set (please see the included photo to understand the layout). Essentially, all that is missing is the FINE TUNE control which is hardware only and not editable via MIDI.
