Video & samples further below.

This one in via Lars Nielsen. Teenage Engineering will be at Booth 6409 at the NAMM show.

The details via AskAudio Magazine:

"January 22nd teenage engineering and cheap monday launch a line of pocket operators – micro synthesizers that fit in your pocket and a line of matching gear. the launch takes place simultaneously in-store and online at colette, paris and the namm trade show in los angeles.

The idea of the collaboration between teenage engineering and cheap monday was born in the autumn of 2013. the engineers needed new, protective, lab coats for the staff and instead of buying generic ones teenage engineering’s creative director, jesper kouthoofd, turned to his longtime friend ann-sofie back asking cheap monday to design a unique coat and additional garments for his team. cheap monday took on the challenge but asked for a return favour; what began with the engineers need for new lab wear grew into a project where a line of portable synthesizers and matching gear were born in a unique collaboration between the two brands.

The matching brand philosophies: to 'make jeans and fashion for the people' -great products at a good price- (cheap monday) and “we believe in making products for everyone, no matter where you live or what language you speak” (teenage engineering) has provided the perfect cornerstone for the collaboration as well as acted as an inspiration for the design process. with the new pocket operators, retailing at only $59 each, teenage engineering and cheap monday are most likely introducing the smallest, smoothest and cheapest synthesizers ever, still delivering premium sound, features and effects.

'I think this can be the seed to a new movement, at least a new music genre. all thanks to the open minded team at cheap monday and ann-sofie back', says jesper kouthoofd, founder and ceo at teenage engineering. With the launch of the teenage engineering collaboration, cheap monday has now taken a step outside of its core business; jeans and fashion.

'It’s great to work with jesper again, not to mention the rest of the amazing team at teenage engineering. in addition to being amazing products in its own right, the pocket operators are a perfect addition to the cheap monday assortment, fulfilling our brand promise to make great products at a good prize,' says ann-sofie back, creative director at cheap monday.

The pocket operators will be launched at internationally renowned concept store colette on january 22nd and will be available exclusively in store, on www.colette.fr and on www.teenageengineering.com until february 1st. from beginning of february www.cheapmonday.com and selected retailers across the world will carry the pocket operators and the gear.

Teenage engineering’s new line of musical instruments is called pocket operators and consists of three pocket sized synthesizers. all three models come without casing where the components and artwork are visible directly on the printed circuit board. the 2xaaa battery powered pocket operators also come with a segment lcd screen, built in speaker, alarm clock and a stand made from bent wire. all models also feature parameter locks as well as synchronization functionality and they all have 3.5mm line in and line out. each model has its own set of effects such as filters, bit-crushing, delay, stutter and many more."

NAMM: Teenage Engineering OP-1 Ready for Production

"OP-1 Newsletter #3, Jan 14, 2011

SPECIAL NAMM 2011 ANNOUNCEMENT

Finally. After more than two years of development the OP-1 is ready for production.

Initial supply will be limited. We now accept reservations at http://www.teenageengineering.com

Order now to make sure you get an OP-1 from the first production run. Manufacturing, assembly and shipping will be eight weeks.

PRICE

The OP-1 is priced at $ 799 / Euro 799 (including EC-VAT).

We have got questions about the dollar versus euro price.
The apparently higher euro price is a consequence of that we are required to add sales tax on all sales to the european union.

MEET US AT NAMM

We are in Hall A, Booth# 6409. The NAMM Show, Anaheim convention center in California. This is the place to try out an OP-1 for yourself. The show ends on Sunday.

BETA

Invitations has been sent out to the people selected for the Beta program.

We are exited to open up the sales of the OP-1 and are looking forward to hear what music you will create with our beloved synthesizer.

Thank you for signing up for the Teenage Engineering Newsletter.

Have a nice day.

-Teenage Engineering."

Teenage Engineering Eurorack, POM-400 Matrix Kits & Talking to Aliens with a Steiner Masters Touch

Talking to Aliens video upload by Dave Vondle

This is a bit of a triple post. Dave Vondle of http://matrix.vondle.com wrote in to let me know the final 9 units of the Ghielmetti Pin Matrix Kit for the Teenage Engineering POM-400, previously posted here, have been completed. It's featured in the video above and in a post by Teenage Engineering on converting their Pocket Operator Modules (POM) to eurorack.

That said, first the description for the video above:

"Figured out how to communicate to extraterrestrial organisms.

The Calmset 3 connected to my brain is generating the frequencies - and the Masters Touch is taking breath, bite, and touch into the Teenage Engineering POM-400 (with my matrix kit attached). Breath controls the amplitude and bite/touch modify filter parameters. This all runs through the VOCU tape echo."

See here for some additional posts featuring the Masters Touch including pics. You can also find some info on Patchman Music here.

Second, info on the final batch of Matrix Kits from http://matrix.vondle.com:

"Over a year ago I created a bolt-on kit to turn a Teenage Engineering Pocket Modular 400 into a matrix synth like the EMS Synthi. Instead of using cables to patch outputs from one module into inputs of another, you use the supplied pins to connect a row (output) to the corresponding column (input).

I have completed the final batch of 9 kits, as the manufacturer of the matrices recently went out of business. Teenage engineering just wrote a blog post featuring the kit, so I figured it would be a good time to get these last kits out there.

More info about the kit:

The matrix itself was made in Switzerland by the established patchbay company, Ghielmetti, and the kit simply bolts onto the back of the POM-400 modules with the supplied hardware - there is no soldering required. Once bolted on, it enables you to make 100% of all the patches you could otherwise make using cables, with the added benefit of having virtually no restrictions on the number of available outputs and inputs for each module. Patch cables can still be used in conjunction with the matrix for interfacing the system with external modules and running sound out from the device.

I thought you folks might be interested! For more details and to place an order go to matrix.vondle.com

Bonus Video - Here’s me when I patched a Steiner Master’s Voice into the POM-400, with the kit installed:" [above]

Third: eurorack conversions for Teenage Engineering's Pocket Operator Modules (and euro racking Pocket Operators):

via Teenage Engineering: eurorack is a very common system format when it comes to modular synths. there are tons of modules and manufacturers on the market and the pocket operator modular series is eurorack compatible. this means any POM system can be used together with any other module, from any other brand. while the pocket rack format is slightly smaller than eurorack, you only need some minor tweaks to fit your pocket operator modules in your eurorack system.

here are a few ways to 'eurorackify' your pocket operator modulars and pocket operators, plus a bonus mod to really expand the capabilities of your POM-400.

eurorack front panels for POM
the two companies malm.audio and jklmnt have joined forces and created custom eurorack front panels for the complete range of modules available in the pocket operator modular POM-400 and POM-170. pick your favorite module and mount that in your existing eurorack system, or create a complete replica of an entire system. the various panels range from 6 hp width, up to 18 hp.

power adapters
they've also made a convenient power adapter that easily converts the power connector from pocket rack to eurorack. no soldering is required and everything above is available through the oddvolt webstore.

pokit for POM-16 by grayscale
the company grayscale makes modules and stylish eurorack front panels for a lot of products. their pokit is a eurorack conversion kit for the POM-16 keyboard. the front panel has a matte black finish and is 42 hp wide. the kit even comes with matching gray official knobs. this is a great option for enabling your system with the 4-channel sequencer, arpeggiator and keyboard that is the POM-16.

pocket operators and eurorack
the usually hand-held regular pocket operators can also be used in a eurorack system. this could for instance be a great way to create a portable and powerful grab-and-go live performance instrument, or to have pocket operators tightly and neatly integrated into your studio setup. here are two examples of how to mount pocket operators in a eurorack case.

Teenage Engineering OP-1 | 10+ years later | Still good?

video upload by Mamotreco

"Find out how the Teenage Engineering OP-1 portable synth stacks up roughly a decade after I got it. While the compact design of the OP-1 as well as its distinct looks contribute to its lasting appeal, this video examines whether its a durable and useable synth and luggable music production tool.

This Teenage Engineering OP-1 video can be broken up into the following sections. Please feel free to skip to what interests you most:

Synth Jams by Jay Hosking

Published on Jul 26, 2019 Jay Hosking

Spotted the first video in the playlist above on discchord.com. The Playlist contains 21 videos. You can use the player controls to skip around. Descriptions for each are below. All videos feature various gear so you should be able to get an idea of some of the capabilities of each featured. You can check out Jay Hosking's music at https://jayhosking.bandcamp.com/.

Note, more will likely get added over time. The following playlist is as of this post:

1. Jam w/ Vermona PERfourMER MkII, Elektron Analog Rytm MkII, OTO Bam, Styrmon Big Sky, Fugue Machine
A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by some pretty tough news that has me sentimental.

I loved the Elektron Analog Four MkII so much that I picked up the Analog Rytm MkII. My feelings on the Rytm are mixed. On the one hand, it's missing that spontaneity and spark of units like the Arturia DrumBrute Impact and Teenage Engineering OP-Z, with no readymade performance effects, roller bar, or global randomization, and a slower workflow. On the other hand, I really like its analogue sound engines, any unused tracks can be converted into impressive analogue mono synths, it does beautiful things to samples, and like all Elektron boxes it integrates the effects into the sequencer really nicely.

As for the Vermona PERfourMER MkII, I'd been pining over it for ages, and it was fun to finally tinker with it. The Perfourmer definitely excels in the mid- and high- range, and I love how the independent voices making really interesting voices for chords.

Vermona PERfourMER MkII + OTO Bam — Three synths (left chord note, right chord note, melody)
Vermona PERfourMER MkII + Strymon Big Sky — Bass chord note synth
Elektron Analog Rytm MkII — Drums, samples, sample melody, punchy bass
Fugue Machine (iOS) — Sequencing
IK Multimedia iRig Pro Duo — MIDI out from iOS

Written and performed within a 24-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little sidechain compression on the Perfourmer (to emphasize the sound that the Rytm was already making), and compression/limiting on the master.

Teenage Engineering behind the scenes of TX–6 field mixer

video upload by teenage engineering

"a behind the scenes look at how TX–6 field mixer is made."

via Teenage Engineering

"To celebrate the release of TX–6, we thought we'd give you a look into the design and engineering process behind our portable mixer. here software developer and product owner marcus nilsson shares his experience working on TX–6 over the years. also, with the ability to travel again, we have some behind the scenes footage of our customized production process, filmed in our factory in malaysia.

hello marcus! can you tell us about what you do at teenage engineering?

i'm the main software developer and product owner of the TX–6 field mixer. i joined teenage engineering ten years ago when we were only seven people working in a garage. at the time we only had OP–1, and since then i've been involved in many of our products along the way.

so what's the story behind TX–6 and field?

the idea behind field system is to let you make music or perform when you feel like it and wherever you are without the need for a computer or other bulky gear. the TX–6 mixer is part of that system and we felt that this was a missing piece of equipment on the market. i know i've been looking for a product like this!

and on a personal note, when i was 12 years old i was given an electronics kit which just happened to be a mixer. i soldered and built it, using it to make mixtapes - so working on TX–6 feels like a childhood project coming full circle."

via Teenage Engineering

"– let us start by apologizing for the long delay. to develop new products can at times be quite hard and when you work on things that have never been done before, it's even harder. over the last year we have re-worked and re-thought in absurdum, but now when three long years of development have finally come to an end, we feel quite confident that you will actually thank us for that extra long wait.

why? you might ask...

– because the result is just pretty, pretty great."

Update:

And the UI was created by her. :)

According to CDM:

"In place of drab text menus or something like that, the new Teenage Engineering PO-32 Tonic is … a little different. There are adorable characters with wide eyes and huge noses, quaffing cocktails. There’s a ringing telephone … with a mouse perhaps gnawing away at its end. There are spiders – various spiders.

No, I don’t mean the UI on the PO-32 display seems like it was drawn by a 9-year-old girl. It actually was.

Her name is Ivana, she really is nine years old, and she’s the daughter of Teenage Engineering CEO and founder (and whiz designer himself) Jesper Kouthoofd. And in pictures provided exclusively to CDM, we have proof that she designed the display. Talk about landing your dream job in the musical instruments industry early.

I think her creation is genius. And she probably sets some kind of record here."
