Treating a Radio through the Murf

YouTube via RothHandle. I love the tap dancing comment right after 3:00.
Yamaha's first synthesizer, the Yamaha SY-1 makes an appearance at the end.
"I am currently working on some music for a norwegian film together with Matti Bye. We have previously recorded one album together called Elephant & Castle. An album loosely based wround cirkus music using a lot of different organs, mellotrons and optigans. For this film we are working with more modern sounds...We are planning to use a lot of synthesizers, modular stuff, drummachines and try to create good textures.

This little mobile film was shot on Sunday the 1st of March at Roth Händle studios in Stockholm. The studio started as a small bedroom studio in my apartment in Kungsholmen, Stockholm. I starterd out using a Akai DPS-12. I also had a mellotron, an acoustic guitar and a handful of stompboxes. My first "real" location was at an old abandoned shipyard outside of Stockholm. It was 30 square meters. Since then I have moved twice and I am now located in Sundbyberg where I have a fairly large space. If you are curious to find out more about the studio please visit www.roth-handle.nu"

Blacet Suitcase, Euro Step Sequence w/ MPC

YouTube via wonkythomas
"The SEQ-02 is running the same A-B cycle all the way thru, all the variations in timing are created by programming differant "clock" patterns into the MPC.

Pitch of 2 VCOs is controlled by a mixture of Sequencer CV, MIDI/CV Pitch & Binary Zone, then quantized by the Blacet Miniwave."

Doepfer A - 152 Digital Outs 3 step Sequencer

YouTube via wonkythomas
"Quick patch exploring the idea of Andreas. To use the Digital Out section of the 152 processed by a mixer as a sequencer!

Nothing fancy here like VC address, cos I only have 3 inputs on the Blacet Mixer / Processor, so if you have an 8 chan. mixer then you can extend this & modulate the VC Address to create more complex sequences. The 152 rocks!!!

M.F.B SEQ-01 is master of the SEQ-02 runnng 16 steps into the Clock in, the SEQ-02 Gate out is clocking the A-152. The SEQ-01 is doing a few other important jobs. Its triggering the VCS which modulates the 1st "note" in the sequence & its triggering a Blacet Binary Zone which is modulating the VC Waveshape of the Klangwerks modulator. An M.F.B Dual LFO is modulating the Rise time on the VCS & being CV'd by the CV out of the same SEQ-02 track that is clocking the 152.

Came out dark again... If I use overhead light its actually worse for shadows, need to strike a happy medium between quality & size."

"The Roland RA-30 is basically a wavetable synthesizer module with automatic rhytm and accompaniment and it can also be used as computer soundcard.
I have had this machine for a while but never really made any recordings with. But since one of it's styles are called "Lambada" and since it has an OK accordeon voice this 1989's hit was a piece of cake to play. I use a GEM DSK-7 as controller - and that is pretty much all it is good at....
In this video I also find the answer to the irrelevant question "what is RRC acoustic piano pick-up?""

The E-mu Audity?

John sent in this image and was wondering what was sitting on top of the PPG 100 Series and below the RSF Expander. You can barely see it but John thinks this might be rare E-mu Audity.

"If it's what I think, well the owner of the studio, is the happy owner of very historic module.I belive it is the Emu Audity module, that was in the possession of Chris Franke of Tangerine Dream in the early 80's and it was included in his modular rack."

If anyone knows please comment or send me an email. My contact info is on the bottom right of the site. Also, if anyone knows the source of this image please let me know. I usually like to link to the source but in this case we do not know.

Update: be sure to see these posts for more including the E-Mu Audity keyboard with a link to samples.

Update via translucent_nick in the comments: "The photo belongs to Mr. Thomas Henze:

http://www.myspace.com/henzman/photos/1164851

thanks to contributions of a huge Tangerine Dream fan, Andy King, I can assure you that it is a basic architecture monosynth module (two OSC's, LFO, filter, two ADSR, glide).
It is very possible that the actual unit it is the Chris Franke's one."

AKAI PROFESSIONAL RELEASES NEW OS 2.0 FOR MPC5000

"Free, New Operating System Introduces More Than 25 New Capabilities
javascript:void(0)
Cumberland, R.I. (Mar. 2, 2009) – Akai Professional, the name synonymous with music production, announces the release of MPC5000 OS 2.0, a new operating system for its flagship MPC5000 music production workstation. The new system is available now as a free download from the company’s Web site, www.akaipro.com.

MPC5000 OS 2.0 includes more than 25 improvements to the functionality and workflow of the MPC5000. Many of the new capabilities have been developed to accommodate the specific requests of MPC5000 user feedback.

MPC5000 OS 2.0 introduces Keygroup Programs to the MPC5000. Users can create chromatic instrument key-mapped sample programs taking a single sample and turning it into a pitched piano, string or other instrument sound. This new capability greatly expands the performance and production capability of the MPC5000, and its ability to perform as a drum sampler and a more traditional key-mapping sampler.

Users can now import S1000, S3000, S5000/S6000, Z4/Z8 and MPC4000-format sample libraries from Akai Professional and third party developers.

MPC5000 OS 2.0 enables automation recording for any of the parameters in the effects set, an MPC first. This enhancement builds on the MPC5000’s ability to record program parameters to aid greatly in mixing and production.

A new Controller Grid Edit window added to Grid Edit Mode enables users to see a graphic view of controller automation and edit events.

A new MultiEdit function enables users to edit parameters for multiple pads all at once. The ability to edit tuning, envelope filters, or most any parameter across all of the pads in a Drum or Keygroup Program saves users considerable time and effort.

The MPC5000’s Chopshop technology, which slices samples into smaller pieces, has a new Zoom function in MPC5000 OS 2.0 that lets users to zoom in on individual slices for finer editing of their beat slicing.

The newly added ability to quantize Track Mutes is a useful feature for performers who trigger clips and tracks from their MPC5000. It eliminates worries about compensating for latency because the MPC5000 perfectly aligns mute punches in real time.

With these and a host of other new advancements, MPC5000 OS 2.0 makes the MPC5000 even more powerful, musical and user-friendly.

The MPC5000 is the latest evolution of the MPC sample-based music production device. The system builds on the MPC framework that combines powerful sequencing, sampling and processing with the feel of the exclusive MPC pads and Q-Link assignable controls. It introduces new-to-MPC functionalities including a virtual analog synthesizer, a streaming hard disc recorder, extremely high-resolution sequencing and nearly 100 other new capabilities.

“We love the feedback we get from MPC owners,” said Adam Cohen, Director of Business Development, Akai Professional. “With MPC5000 OS 2.0 we’ve developed updates to address many of the great suggestions we have heard.”

MPC5000 OS 2.0 is available for download at www.akaipro.com/MPC5000 at no cost."

"If you want the OXYGENE / JARRE sound - and an Eminent 310 organ is to heavy, to big, to expensive for you - a Roland RS-09 "Organ / Strings" for example, can deliver a similar sound. On this video you hear a Roland RS-09, a Roland DEP-5 for delay and an Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Pedal."

This is the 3rd project which i made with my new Roland MC-909 Groovebox. This time i combined it with the Korg Kaoss Pad and routed 2 sample patches from the MC-909 to the Kaoss Pad.

I still don't know exactly what it was. Maybe a battery clip was faulty somehow? I don't know.

But I un-soldered the batteries, made a new battery harness out of new clips, put it together the EXACT same way I had before and soldered it on....and woohoo, it works."

Sweet MIDI Arpeggiator - freeware

"Older synthesizers had arpeggiators, and now new synths can have them too with Sweet MIDI Arpeggiator. This 'virtual arpeggiator' program contains four arpeggio objects that will arpeggiate all MIDI notes that pass through it.

With this program, you can change the arpeggio direction, number of octaves, and length of the arpeggiated notes. You can also modify the rhythm values of the arpeggiated notes and add another arpeggio object by choosing the same MIDI channel for the object."

JD-800 used with a virtual arpeggiator

"I wondered when I bought my JD-800 whether anyone had come up with a solution to using it as an arpeggiator. With a little digging around online I found one.
The 'Sweet midi arpeggiator' is free and can be downloaded, find it via google. It enables you to send out a midi signal to the software which then returns the midi signal back to the JD-800 arpeggiated. It works in real time so it's as if the JD-800 itself has an onboard arpeggiator. Now everyone that moans that the JD-800 would have been better with one can finally shut up."
You can also use Techno Toys and others on KVR. BTW if you haven't checked out KVR for software, check it out now. It's THE online database for audio software, virtual instruments and controllers.
