MPC Sound Design Tricks Part 1 (Multiple Randomised Samples on a Single Pad)

Published on Jan 22, 2019 Praxis Axis

"In Program Edit Mode, use 4 layers set to Random, X Simultaneous Play, to create textures of up to 5 randomized samples triggered by a *single* pad, from a pool of up to 20. Approach what is possible in software like Twisted Tools' S-Layer, but natively within the Live."

Note the speakers are missing. You can find one speakers posted back in 2013 here.

Vintage 1980s Fisher SC-300K Am-Fm-Sw Cassette Boombox with built-in and detachable SCK-30 “Stereo Music Composer” synthesizer keyboard. Unit is in good cosmetic condition and partially working but not complete so being sold for parts or restoration.
Boombox was tested by hooking up stereo speakers with 1/8” mini jack plugs; Radio is working on all bands and heard many stations on Am & Fm with very good fidelity and volume. Didn’t spend time on the 2 shortwave bands. Cassette is not working but it just needs new belts; all the buttons are working and tape loads & ejects fine plus I can hear the motor running indicating it will work once repaired with belts.

The electronic keyboard and synth is working both with the boombox and separately with RCA cables connected to an amplifier. There is an LCD display showing the notes or keys being used. A sequencer with an eight-pattern memory stores just over 500 notes. The keyboard’s battery compartment is clean and has the cover. Same with the boombox; no leakage or bad contacts. Includes cover and AC cord. There is an internal voltage adapter for use on 120-210-240 worldwide settings.

It is being sold as is as shown, missing the speakers. Also, there are some cosmetic issues like a bend in the antenna; a plastic hook is broken on the top right that mates with the keyboard, but the synth locks down on both sides and is held securely as it is now. Also there are various scratches and rub marks on the tuner & cassette faceplate as well as the keys are discolored from age & sun but overall it still presents nicely."

Coming to the Sequential Prophet X: Minimmog, Prophet T8, OB-X, ARP 2600, Roland Jupiters & More

In case you missed the update in this post, Dave Smith will be showing some new sound libraries from 8Dio for the Prophet X at NAMM this year in Meeting Room TKAB.

They include the following add-on packs:

Minimoog Model D
Sequential Circuits T8
Oberheim OBX
ARP 2600
Jupiter 4
Jupiter 6
Moog Prodigy

Expect these to be good, and polyphonic. 8Dio is known for their high quality sample packs, included in the Prophet-X. Full details to come...

Update: and the official press release:

"Anaheim, CA—Jan 23, 2019— At this year’s NAMM convention, Sequential will debut eight new add-on packs from sound developer 8Dio for their flagship samples-plus-synthesis keyboard, the Prophet X. The sample packs are focused largely on vintage synthesizers and include the Minimoog Model D, Sequential Circuits T8, Oberheim OBX, ARP 2600, Juno 60, Jupiter 6, Moog Prodigy, as well as a new deep-sampled piano.

The Prophet X has garnered critical acclaim for its sonic versatility and sound design capabilities through its substantial internal library of 150 GB of sample content as well as its ability to import up to 50 GB of additional user samples and add-on content from sound developers.

All sample content can be manipulated by the Prophet X sound engine, which powers two simultaneous sample-based instruments plus two high-resolution digital oscillators, with a full complement of traditional synthesis tools, all processed through analog filters. Dual digital effects and a 64-step polyphonic sequencer round out the package. In standard performance mode, the instrument provides bi-timbral, 8-voice stereo, or 16-voice mono operation. 32-voice performance mode, allows paraphonic filter operation when using a single sampled instrument and oscillator.

'I’m excited to introduce these new Prophet X add-ons from 8dio at NAMM,” commented Dave Smith. They add an interesting vintage slant to a very modern synth. To have these classic instruments available to perform with or to manipulate with the Prophet X synthesis engine makes an already-powerful musical tool even more versatile. '

Dave will be representing Sequential at the NAMM show at Meeting Room TKAB.

The add-ons packs will be available for download from 8Dio’s website at a date to be determined after the show.

Disclamer: All musical instrument manufacturer and product names used in add-on packs by 8Dio are trademarks of their respective owners, which are in no way associated or affiliated with 8Dio or Sequential LLC."

Moog Model D App - NuEVI & Wind Synth Collection - Mark Steiner

Published on Jan 22, 2019 Mark Steiner

"This collection of 120 sounds are optimized for breath control keyboards and instruments, and especially for the NuEVI made by Berglund Instruments.

Please, email me at monkeydrums@hotmail.com to order. Cost is $95.

After searching a great many apps and plugins, I have found Moog's official "Minimoog Model D App for iPad" to be the VERY best analog modeling app or plugin for breath control. The attacks are just incredible and the sound is gorgeous.

The design lends to some great controls as well, as you can assign multiple destinations for midi CC's. There are also little tricks to find, such as smoothly cross fading different wave shapes with breath and other controls. Very expressive!

You can modulate effects, and you can even crossfade from modulating between LFO and OSC 3. That's where things can start sounding quite modular.

Orchestral Tools Junkie XL Brass

Uploaded on Jan 20, 2019 Orchestral Tools

Tuesday, January 22, 2019 — Following the success of its Berlin and Metropolis Ark series, German sample library developer Orchestral Tools has joined forces with leading Dutch producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Tom Holkenborg to create a brand-new brass collection, Junkie XL Brass.

Holkenborg, better known in the music business as Junkie XL, is a former industrial noise producer and chart topping electronic live act, who has become one of Hollywood’s most successful and singular film score composers, blending classical composition with a mastery of modern instrumentation and studio techniques. One of the movie industry's few billion dollar box offices composers, Holkenborg’s diverse credits include Mad Max Fury Road, Deadpool, Black Mass, Mortal Engines, Tomb Raider and the forthcoming James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez project, Alita: Battle Angel.

Won over by the superior interface, sample cutting and playability of Orchestral Tools’ products, Holkenborg felt that the company was the ideal partner for creating his brass library: “I needed a ‘sound voice’ in this industry and realized right from the beginning that I needed to build my own sample libraries, and that’s why we’ve gotten to the point of creating my own brass library together with Orchestral Tools.”

As with previous Orchestral Tools collections, Junkie XL Brass was recorded at the Teldex Scoring Stage in Berlin, a distinctively balanced 450 m² hall with sublime acoustics and the finest microphones from the last five decades. Classic brass instruments – trumpets, French horns, trombones and tubas – were sampled in many different section sizes to provide maximum depth and versatility, with a dynamic range going from pianississimo to fortississimo.

Junkie XL Brass is scheduled for release in late 2019 and will be available exclusively for the new Orchestral Tools Sampler Platform. As well as being designed as “an homage to acoustic instruments”, this platform is a powerful tool that is capable of customizing every single articulation to the user’s individual needs. And, as Tom Holkenborg explains, capable of inspiration as well: "What I want you to feel when you open up the sample library and play your first line is that you want to make music straight away. That’s how inspired you will be when you use Junkie XL Brass."
