Cyclic: a new step sequencer, work-in-progress #2

Uploaded by dnigrin on Jan 8, 2012

"Cyclic is a forthcoming new step sequencer software application, from Defective Records Software, in collaboration with Mutable Instruments.

This is a slightly more musical example compared to work-in-progress #1, using a polyphonic softsynth (Togu Audio Line's Noisemaker) together with two monophonic Mutable Instruments' synths, the Shruthi-1 and Shruti-1. I saved several presets and am mostly just cycling through them. Gives you an idea of how easily you can create some excellent patterns - this came together in less than 5 minutes. CAREFUL ABOUT YOUR MONITORING VOLUME AT 1:05, A NEW PART KICKS IN A BIT TOO LOUD!

Dirty Stroll

YouTube Uploaded by djangosfire on Jan 8, 2012

"Dirty, crunchy, nasty patches - manually "walking" through some loud distorted sounds. Most of the distortion is coming from the 291e module - but also from the 206e mixer.

Modules used: 266e - 256e - 206e - 281e - 210e - 291e - 261e - 255."

Rheyne - Lemur and a Launchpad (Live Jam #32) 1/8/12

YouTube Uploaded by RheyneMusic on Jan 8, 2012

"Live improv jam using only Lemur to wirelessly control all instruments and effects in Ableton Live, with NI's Kontakt and Massive as the sound sources. A Novation Launchpad is controlling the recording and playback of loops in Ableton. All loops are recorded live, nothing was pre-recorded. Audio was captured from the 1/8" output of the laptop to a Zoom Q3HD's 1/8" input."

Hackme Rockit Synth

"Rockit is a monophonic, digital and analog hybrid synthesizer. Rockit can make one sound at a time, but it has the capacity to make very simple sounds to very complex and dynamic sounds. Sound generation begins with digital synthesis, moves through analog amplification, analog filtering, and comes out a product of both the digital birth and the analog processing. The digital synthesis is comprised of two oscillators with independent waveform selection. These oscillators can be mixed or played independently and the second oscillator can be detuned from the first in note steps. The analog amplification stage has independent envelope controls for a complete ADSR envelope generator. Rockit’s filter section is an entirely digitally controllable analog filter, meaning all filter parameters are explicitly accessible internally, via knobs and switches, and externally, via MIDI. In addition, Rockit has two Low-Frequency Oscillators for modulating various synthesizer parameters at controllable rates and amounts.

Rockit offers 18 knobs and 8 switches for controlling both the digital synthesis and shaping the analog processing. Rockit is enabled to store and recall 16 patches, storing all knob, switch, and LED settings. Rockit also has a Drone and Loop feature that allows for independent play. For inputs and outputs, Rockit has an audio output and an audio input which routes into the analog filter. Rockit has MIDI In and Out capabilities with all settings accessible via MIDI controller channel numbers. All knob movements are transmitted to the MIDI output on the appropriate MIDI channel number..."

QuNeo Grid Mode and Live Sequencing

YouTube Uploaded by KeithMcMillen on Jan 6, 2012

"Here, QuNeo is used to sequence a drum track in real time. Operating in Grid Mode, each corner of a pad represents a different section in an 8 step sequence. Pushing the corner of the pads places a specific drum hit in that step in the sequence. LED feedback ticks the beat and displays drum sequences as they are programmed. FX are controlled by the horizontal sliders, rotaries, and long slider (which uses two finger width to determine the cutoff and cue on a filter).

Another exciting example of why QuNeo is going to take things to the next level."

Electrix Filter Queen Analog Synth Effects Processor

via this auction
"One of the coolest analog filters ever made. Electrix was a great line from IVL back in the '90s or early '00s (unfortunately the name has been resurrected somewhat recently and put on far inferior products) and this is their Filter Queen. Not just a lesser version of the Filter Factory, in many ways it's actually better. For one it has an expression pedal input, making it ideal for guitarists. It can conjure sounds from sweet and synthy to abrasive and aggressive or simply be used for some drastic frequency sculpting, though that just barely scratches the surface.

It has, among other things: a phono input, 5 different LFO waves, envelope filtering, Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass and Notch filters, a three band crossover where any combination of highs, mids or lows can be turned on or off. The momentary switch is great for rhythmically toggling on/off. There is so much this box can do and it sounds great! It's also quite well-made; all knobs and buttons feel great and it seems pretty bullet-proof."

Analogue Ring Mods from nervoussquirrel.com

"These are not digital - they are real analogue ring modulators, the same circuit design as used to create the original voice of the Daleks in 1963.

They have been made using carefully matched germanium diodes, housed in a rugged metal case. The units are 'passive', meaning they don't require batteries, but lower signal levels may require a preamp.

Connect a synth, drum machine, microphone or guitar to the input socket, a simple waveform (e.g. VCO or note held on a keyboard) into the 'carrier' input, and the ring modulator will produce interesting metallic/robotic sound effects. Sound files below."

SergeDUSG1.AVI [Serge / CGS Universal Slope Generators]

YouTube Uploaded by dolphinicus on Jan 8, 2012

"This is a short vid. showing off my 2 x Serge / CGS Universal Slope Generators that I'd just completed yesterday. Thankfully, Serge Tcherepnin who had started Serge Modular Synthesizers in 1973, has licensed a few of his modules to the wonderful Ken Stone - owner of CGS Synths, so that he may produce PCBs of some of Serge Tcherepnin's wonderful modules.
The Serge USG is capable of operating as an Attack/Decay EG; Attack/Sustain/Release EG; LFO; VCLFO; VCO; VCF; Envelope Follower; Pitch Tracker; Slew Genereator (Portamento) as well as allowing the Rising and Falling wave shapes to change linearly or logarithmically.
In my 20+ years of working with and building modular synthesizers, I have never seen anyone else create a module as powerful, as this one.
I hope you enjoy the couple of fiddly bits that I've done with the 2 of them in this 9 minute video. As always, there'll be more coming! :D"
