Roland JP8000 and JP8080 Alan-M Trance / Dubstep Patches [HD]

YouTube Published on May 22, 2012 by alanmarcero

"http://www.alanmarcero.com for free patches for your synthesizers. Demo done with a Roland JP8000 and external VSTs. I tried to use minimal processing so the synth could speak for itself.

Quite a classic virtual analog synthesizer, the JP8000 / JP8080. Included are 128 patches, both A and B user banks, to take your JP into the 21st century. This vintage monster is still quite capable of very modern sounds.

There are already quite a few patch banks for the JP8000 / JP8080. I did not try to copy them. Rather, I tried to show off everything this amazing VA can do apart from only supersaws. It has some monster FM capabilities in addition to beautiful filters and snappy envelopes. But, fear not, I intend for my bank to be all you need for your JP, so I've also included some classic sounds like massive supersaws and plucks.

Note that some external FX where used in the audio demo, namely a simple external delay plugin and reverb. I feel the JP's chours and EQs are a large part of its vintage character, so I used them appropriately in my patch bank."

"CD with ISO images of all of the official Ensoniq sound libraries, OS 1.30 on disk along with Waveboy plug-ins (see picture with red disk), 2 SCSI cables, a SCSI hard disk, and both the original manual and an excellent supplementary manual that I haven't seen anywhere online.

Autechre and El-P are two producers that have exploited the power of this sampler beautifully --- it has a very unique sound to it, which I personally found great for drums and sampled chords. Raw and crunchy if you want it to be, and one of the quickest samplers to use once you learn the workflow."

"A brand new analog delay module designed around a pair of 4096 Bucket Brigade Delay Line (BBD) ICs to produce a distinct analog delay effect. The maximum delay time when shipped is set at 9/10ths of a second but this can be adjusted up to 2 seconds. The Analog Delay offers voltage control of the delay time, feedback, and wet signal. A true bypass switch allows the delay to be enabled and disabled quickly.

Size: 16hp
Depth: 35mm
Power Usage: 35mA

Analog Delay Control Descriptions:
Rate Control Knob / Rate CV Input:
The Rate control knob adjusts the delay time of the Analog Delay module. Left is a shorter delay and right is a longer delay. Delay time is controlled internally by a VCA. The Rate control knob controls the delay time by producing a 0-5v control voltage that controls the rate VCA. The Rate CV Input accepts 0-5v signals. The incoming voltage is added to the voltage produced by the Rate control knob to determine the delay time.

Bypass Switch:
A true bypass switch to enable or disable the analog delay effect.

Feedback Control Knob / Feedback CV Input:
The Feedback control knob adjusts the number of repeats in the wet signal. Left is fewer repeats and right is more repeats. Feedback is controlled internally by a VCA. The Feedback attenuator knob controls the amount of repeats by producing a 0-5v control voltage to to controls the feedback VCA. The Feedback CV Input accepts 0-5v signals. The incoming voltage is added to the voltage produced by the Feedback control knob to determine the number of repeats.

Wet Control Knob / Wet CV Input:
The Wet control knob attenuates the wet signal available to the Feedback output and Mix output. The amount of wet signal available to the outputs is controlled internally by a VCA. The Wet attenuator knob controls the level of wet output by producing a 0-5v control voltage to to controls the wet VCA. The Wet CV Input accepts 0-5v signals. The incoming voltage is added to the voltage produced by the Wet attenuator knob to determine the amount of wet signal available to the outputs

Dry Control Knob:
The Dry control knob attenuates the dry signal available to the Mix output.

Feedback Output / Mix Output:
The Feedback output is an output of the wet signal taken after the wet VCA. The Feedback output is the same signal that is sent to the Mix output. The Mix output is an output of the wet signal taken after the wet VCA and the dry signal taken after the dry control knob."

I've added a cutoff slider at the end of the Giant Pitch Lever, which can be played with the thumb, leaving one hand free for additional controls. The slider has a rubberband pulling it back to "closed" position, which makes "playing" it a little more like playing an instrument. Still need to add pitch markers though.

BBC Radio 6 - Building the Ultimate Moog Playlist

via BBC Radio 6

"Last Wednesday would have marked the 78th birthday of Dr Robert ‘Bob’ Moog – the man who revolutionized music with the invention of the Moog synthesizer.

This instrument was seized up the likes of The Beatles, The Doors, Stevie Wonder in the late 60s, but it was the introduction of the Mini Moog in 1970 which ushered in a new age for synthesized music. Thanks to its portability and price, it was seized upon by aspiring electronic musicians, paving the way for prog rockers like Yes, Tangerine Dream and synth pioneers Kraftwerk .

This week Google dedicated their homepage to the Moog, and with such an outpouring of analog synth love online this week, what better perfect subject to base a playlist on for this Sunday’s Now Playing on?

We want to hear your suggests for the ultimate Moog playlist..."

"Fully functional, completely refurbished by a technician.

Every pot/slider replaced. No black foam

S-Trigger has been converted to GATE to be more usable with sequencers.

There are 2 switches and 1 knob on the side panel. This mod is for sync sweep sounds. You can switch from either envelope, or LFO to modify the pitch of VCO2. This mod adds an entirely new realm of possibilities to an already versatile synth.

Every key is working great. Slightly crackly volume pot, and tuning pots a bit jumpy.

All of this + a Roadie hard case that fits the synth exactly."

Chilled Out Summer Synth Jam

YouTube Published on May 25, 2012 by snolan1990

"I haven't put anything up in a while because I have been away from home and more importantly my synths at Uni. I'm not a 100% happy with this but I have been working on it flat out for the past few days so I thought I would record a version before I pulled out all the patch cables.

Please excuse the sloppiness of that synth guitar, I have to record that bit live because quantization messes up the flow of anything like that and the JX-3P can't receive pitch bend data which is obviously pretty important.

I'm not too sure why the video is all hazy and laggy but I think it might be something to do with my camera adjusting to the light out my window before I moved it into the relative darkness of the room, anyway you get the idea with the footage.

For those interested in the technical side of it all.

Drums are a combination of Roland TR-626 and TR-707 samples in the Akai S900. Bass is Roland Juno-60. The pads are Roland JX-3P through the RAK DD-2000 digital delay. The faux electric piano is a Yamaha TX81Z preset through a Guyatone PS-013 chorus pedal (I love the combination of FM and that chorus) The Lead is a very simple patch on the HackMe Rockit which I recently constructed from a kit. The Choral patch thing towards the end is a Kawai KC-10 preset with loads of delay from a Frontline DDS-20 digital delay. Finally the synth guitar is the JX-3P "Dist Guitar" preset through a DigiTech Hot Head distortion pedal, then through the Noise Gate of the Alesis 3630 and finally with a bit of the RAK DD-2000 delay. (The waves were just dragged in next to the track in Audacity, I had tried sampling it in the Oberheim DPX-1 but it lost too much fidelity to work, I could have put it in the E-mu ESI4000 but It would have covered about 4 floppies and I couldn't be bothered to load for 10 mins every time I wanted to work on it)"

Lunetta Guitar

YouTube Published on May 25, 2012 by NakagawaGakki

"This is the first run of a new instrument I am building. An 8stringed Synth Driven Guitar, rather than a "Guitar Synth".
As part of my 3month Artist Residency at the Artifactory (April-June 2012) I wanted to learn more about CMOS Circuitry / Boolean Logic particularly using the 4000 range chips AKA Lunetta Chips.
This will be an ongoing project and I hope to have a completely self contained Modular Synth/Guitar hybrid to both perform/interact with and possibly setup as a self playing instrument aswell.
Each module is made in free-form style (Point to point, Space Wiring) where no PCB or prototyping boards are used. Each Module will be based on a 50mm x 50mm format using SIP connectors and Breadboard jumper leads to patch the modules together.

In this video the modules are temporarily affixed to a wooden frame but the Lunetta Guitar will have a grounded wire frame between each guitar neck where modules will be secured.

There first Module Ive made that is driving the motor plectrums in this video is based on the online build notes of the crazy 8Bit Cipher Gate Sequencer circuit from Non Linear Circuits:
http://www.sdiy.org/pinky/data/data.html
Its very playable and rhythmic in a "nonlinear" sense.
Next job is to get more current to the motors (or switch them out for servos) and build an ebow type circuit to vibrate each string independently.

There are lots of Lunetta circuits to be found on the vibrant forums of Electro-Music:
