"This is MIDI Cubes. Its a 1-32 step command based sequencer. My goal of the project is to have a no bulk simple solution while having an in-depth system to handle MIDI messages.

The interface had to be built before functionality on this project as it plays a big part on how it works. You click on one of the 32 squares and a data list will show below. You can add two kinds of commands. The first kind are software commands. These set software functions such as the tempo, max steps, and anything else that modifies how the software runs. The second kinds of commands are MIDI control functions. These are raw MIDI commands such as turning on notes and changing a perimeter like cutoff. The way the messages are sent can also allow the use of multiple channels so one sequencer could control several keyboards/racks at once." You can find more info here.

the boss ps-2 is a dual board pitch shifter/delay pedal. the unit is demonstrated in the one of the delay settings. with the moon cycle stomp switch you can capture 2 second loops, or faster loops to stutter, all the way into self oscillation with help from the foot pedal. in the delay setting you can create some tonal variation as well as adding some synthesizer variants to the delay loop. stomps can be selected to have pattern slicers, circuit bends, and rhythmic sound variation.

the pitch shifter modes creates a synthesizer tone in which the synthesizer can be circuit bent in sound as well as sustained by the moon cycle switch. this allows the user to duet with the synthesizer generated by the pedal as well as isolated the synthesizer to have a fully pitch controllable circuit bent synthesizer."

Linn 9000 Discography

JB found this one on Discogs, an actual discography for the Linn 9000. I did a couple of searches on Discogs for other synths and although I didn't find any comprehensive discographies, I did find mention of some synths in various albums/tracks, for example minimoog brought up Gary Numan's I Die you Die. On the Linn 9000:

"Real Name: Linn 9000
Profile: Many Stock, Aitken & Waterman Hit Factory productions credited the famous Stock and Aitken with keyboards, programming, guitars and suchlike. Curiously they almost always credited the same unknown drummer - the mysterious "A. Linn".

The credit was an in-joke and an anti-muso tease, the name being a reference to the Linn 9000 the studio used to create their relentless pop beats.

The Linn 9000 was Linn Electronics' last instrument. Introduced in 1984, it was a combination of sequencer and drum machine. When Linn Electronics went out of business in early 1986, Roger Linn went to work for Akai, furthering his design ideas in such products as the MPC60 sampling and sequencing drum system and the ASQ10 sequencer."

"I bought and assembled this Maplin function generator, which is a 4 waveform DCO with basic pitch control. The kit comes with buttons to control the pitch, but I wanted to see if I could apply constant rather than stepped control to the pitch of the output. As you can see in the video, by bridging the pins that I put in rather than the buttons, you can effect a smooth change across the oscillator's range in both directions.

These kits are amazing for beginning circuit bending. The sounds that you can eek out of this aren't that exciting in and of themselves, but combined with the "voice changer" (an LFO/pitch shifter/tremolo kit), and the crazy music generator (a primitive Theremin type kit) and a little ingenuity you can come up with some great circuit bending toys.

I plan to wire switches up to the pitch controls, on this one as well as a brush assembly to swipe across the IC pins to effect random change. Housed in a project box with the voice changer and a little bit of CV, I could have a useful effect box."

"The CS-50 was released just one year before its famous big brothers, the CS-60 and CS-80. The CS-50 looks like a scaled-down version of the monstrous CS-80, and it is! This will benefit those who crave the famous classic Yamaha synth sound without the struggle of lugging around the 215 pound CS-80! The CS-50 weighs in at about 100 pounds. The CS-50 is also just 4-voice polyphonic, and lacks the quality weighted 61-note keyboard of the CS-80. The CS-50 has just a 49-note standard keyboard. It does feature pressure (aftertouch) sensitivity route-able to several destinations, however.The CS-50's sound is unmistakably related to other classic CS-series synthesizers. "From 1975, it's the little brother of the Yamaha CS80 (the famous "Blade Runner" Synth). This board was amazingly ahead of it's time in it's polyphonic implementation. If you recall, the majority of the big names at that time were strictly monophonic. This guy came out and featured 4 key polyphony and an early form of aftertouch that can affect the filter, VCO or LFO. There is also a auxillary input to run sounds through the side panel which I have used on a couple of tracks.Small or not, this still weighs close to 100 lbs and is the size of a small organ. There is a really great sounding ring modulator for crazy sci fi sound, 13 presets and a full synthesizer section including both HP and LP resonant filters. Specifications Polyphony - 4 voices, monotimbral Oscillators - Four (1 VCO per voice) LFO - One Filter - 12 dB/oct lowpass and highpass filtering Effects - None Keyboard - 49 keys (pressure sensitive, route to various destinations) Memory - 13 preset, 1on panel Control - CV/Gate Date Produced - 1976"

General purpose Midi controllers

sizone has an excellent thread on alternate scaling MIDI controllers on the forum. The thread lists out a few current controllers that can be used for this purpose including the Jazzmutant Lemur, H-Pi Tonal Plexus, Buchla, and DIY devices. The thread includes some pros and cons along with investment costs in both currency, materials and time. Well worth a read. sizone is also looking for alternatives. If you have any suggestions feel free to chime in either in the comments here or the thread there.

One of the big differences is that HSM isn't just for pulse/square waves, as I show by using the sine output of my A-111 VCO and monitor the sine output of the Z3000.

One also gets unique and interesting results using both the sync and HSM inputs with different sync sources as is also shown toward the end of the video.

A heavily and quickly phased pulse wave is slowly mixed in as the note sustains longer.
