Quantimator Prototype: Prototype #3

flickr By g.p.macklin
"The third Toppobrillo Quantimator prototype was brought to life today. Between Bret, Josh, and myself we should be able to narrow down all of the bugs fairly fast. Let the bug squashing begin! Now the hardest part is going to be resisting the urge to write music. The Quantimator is really musical as soon as it is plugged into a patch and naturally it wants to be used in that context. It makes me want to play with it and not test for firmware issues. Hmm, I guess making some demos would be a way of working while playing.
So anyhow the image above is an arpeggio patch using the Quantimator with a Fonitronik Sequential Switch. The switch cycles between three notes which are output to an oscillator's pitch input. Modulating the chord selection with a control voltage adds a slight variation to the arpeggio.

Using MOOG FILTATRON with a Modular Synth
YouTube via mootbooxle | November 19, 2010
If you don't know who MooT BooXLe is, click on the link above and check out some of his videos.
"The one and only Moot Booxlé (now with less hair) demonstrates how you can use Filtatron, the amazing new iPhone app from Moog, in place of a modular synthesizer's filter module.
This is made possible by another product - the iRig from IK Multimedia, which finally gives iPhone users a clean, uncomplicated way to input and output signals.
Other upcoming videos include:
- Using Moog Filtatron/IK iRig with guitar through an amp
- Using IK Amplitube + iRig with Rhodes electric piano.
The intro and ending music is "Space Theme" by Moot Booxlé."

"Heres another attempt at Vangelis Blade Runner opening theme. This time I used and programmed the Access Virus Ti as a CS-80 for the leads, and used a few more more sounds on the m3 than on my previous one. I also Recorded the audio seperately this time and merged it with the video so the sound quality should be better this time."

Comparison test: Blofeld - Monotron - Evolver
YouTube via adimsimion | November 19, 2010
"The sound was normalized but only with the tool of the video software. In consequence, the white noise of the Monotron is more obvious and wasn't removed at all. On the other side is better, because you'l know what to expect when you buy a Monotron.
So, you have to know from beginning that Monotron has a very pregnant white noise and it ribbon cannot be described in terms like "precisely".
But still a very powerful analog synth into a small box [reminds me the earlier radios!]
I didn't have enough time and will to match the sounds exactly, but the final conclusion is that all three synths have something in common: the analog sounds, even the Blofeld is a VA and many said that sounds noisy, metallic etc - with some skills you can produce excellent patches.
Many thanks to "matrixsynth" who "convinced" me to re-upload this test.
Please, enjoy, and comment!

Alba Ecstasy - The Miracle
YouTube via adimsimion | November 19, 2010 | 0 likes, 0 dislikes
"This song is a miracle itself: when after I put down my ATH-M50 on the Korg Z1, 3 notes where pressed and starting to play - Z1 being in arp mode. After that, Evolver starts playing same notes, being controlled by Z1. Starting from here (you'll observe on beginning a peaceful tune) was simple to complete the song, adding a pad from Blofeld and the beat from Monotron.
Enjoy this song and don't forget to live the miracle of your life every day!

MOTM-730 VC Pulse Divider Now Shipping

"The MOTM-730 is a PIC microprocessor-based digital module that takes an input signal and generates lower frequency square waves at multiples of the input frequency. It is a "big brother" to the MOTM-120 Sub-Octave Mux (in divide mode): the '120 divides by the multiples 2, 4, 8 and 16. The MOTM-730 can generate multiples from 1 to 33, as well as 'half' multiples (1.5 to 16.5). There is also an 8-step, positive-going sawtooth wave that has 3 user-selectable step intervals."

The M5N on this vid was the last one in production and hence it resides here! Please exuse the beer glass that features in this vid! The start of the vid features my two favourite systems comprising of MacBeth Mk1 Modules played using two Korg Prophecies as controller keyboards- Steve almost does as much of a 'ham fisted' job of playing towards the end- just like myself! - but the sound is there =] The latter part of the vid is just chaotic experimentation but we see the Mk1 Analogue Keyboard controller put to some use!.....please enjoy- Ken M"

Roland JX-8P Soundscape - Picture in Your Mind
YouTube via audibleobsession
"The Roland JX-8Ps sonic character tends to draw me into a dream-like state. It's stubbornly loud resonances can be difficult to tame in a full mix, but it's partly this quality that makes it a unique and interesting synthesizer. A few nights ago, I was watching some Archive.org videos when I stumbled on this gem from 1948. I found myself playing an LFO based "arpeggio" on the JX8P while watching the movie. It wasn't long before I was multitracking my way to a soundscape. Again, it's not perfect (no processing or editing of any sort) but its certainly hypnotic. As always, glad to share my JX8P patches (I have them all on my desktop, since I use the VST editor). Just message me on YouTube. Here's a link to the full movie:
