this auction "Kit contains: PCB (Printed circuit board), 555timer chip, 8 pin IC socket 0.01uF ceramic Capacitor, 10uf electrolytic capacitor, 10 kohm resistor, 8 ohm speaker, 9v. battery plug, crocodile plug.
This Concrete kit can be used for various applications. It is based on the well known 555timer IC (Integrated circuit), a very functional completed chip that is used mainly in timing circuits. 555timer IC can be used for two basic operations, the monostable operation and astable operation.
In the Astable mode the IC does not operate in a constant situation, but changes from one situation to another. This is characterized as square wave oscillation
The square wave is periodical, not sine waveform which has the form of successive vibrations with constant width and duration.
The width of the ideal square wave, it varies continuously between two concrete points in short time intervals (let’s say from 0 volts in 9 volts depending on the benefit). By operating in this way, an LED for example, can blink constantly with the same rythm. In our case, in a speaker it will produce sound “predetermined” by the operating frequency.
With a little imagination, using this simple oscillating sound/noise generator, fun devices can be created, as well as using various electrical contact materials/objects as frequency controllers.
Between the second and third position of “P” and one of the two connectors, a resistor or trimmer can be added, for less sensitivity on the connectors.
Changing the “C1” capacitor for a larger one (± 0.1uf) and at reception “P” adding a potentiometer (± 1Kohm), then the producer can use other instruments with greater control – analog diy synth, some modified game (circuit bent), or use it as an autonomous signal generator ++.
Replacing the potentiometer with a photo resistor in place of “P” (2 & 3), the frequency of the oscillator can be controled from a short distance. Hiding the environment light from the photo resistor or lighting it with a torch, a type “Opto theremin” can be created.
Between the battery and the PCB (printed circuit board) a switch or button can be added or even both!
The output to the speaker can be connected on amplification, eg. to the input of an audio mixer, home sound system, computer speakers, effects, etc.
For more information about the 555 timer and circuits you can check on the Internet. Is very widespread and can be found on many web pages." Also see
