Semi Modular Madness Ep.2 - 0HP Moog DFAM

Published on Jul 1, 2019 Mystic Circuits

"Want to expand the scope of your new semi modular stand alone synthesizer but don't have the dough for a full case? Mystic Circuits has the solution - 0HP Modules! Using our state of the art passive circuitry and carefully designed floating form factor, you no longer have to make a huge investment in a full size Eurorack case to enhance the functionality of your synthesizer.

This is the second episode in a series of videos that will tackle different semi modular synths and ways that we use the Mystic Circuits 0HP modules with them. This episode goes over the wonderful Moog DFAM, which has a lot of modulation inputs and outputs to interact with various 0HP Modules."

The Mojave Desert Modular Experiment: Zachary Paul

Published on Jul 1, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"In the Mojave Desert Modular Experiment, we worked with local artists to create modular systems suited to their own styles and workflows...despite the fact that none of them had ever used modular synths before. Each artist/group had two weeks to get to know their system and prepare a performance.

Zachary Paul was the first participant: an LA-based violinist whose work is based around evolving textures of looped and processed string sounds. He typically uses effects pedals, but put the modular synth to excellent work as an advanced effects processor.

Come by our showroom to try out these systems for yourself, and keep an eye out for more results from the experiment each Monday this month! Read more about Zachary's system and get links to his music here:"

Big Merp vs The Photo Theremin [Episode 154]

Published on Jul 1, 2019 CatSynth TV

"Our cat Marlon (aka 'Big Merp') is baffled by a photo theremin. As he tries to figure it out, all hell breaks loose.

A photo theremin is an electronic musical instrument in which a photocell resistor is used to control the pitch of the oscillator. This particular model also has an LFO that modifies the pitch of the main oscillator. It was purchased in eBay in the mid 2000s.

For more cats and synthesizers, please subscribe to this channel and visit"

Too funny. Kitty looks "slightly annoyed" at the end. :)

From the Live Room 1: Roland SH2

Published on Jul 1, 2019 Alfonse

"I got together with drummer Ian Bostic a few weeks ago for some synth jamming... First up was the epic Roland SH2 monosynth from 1979. The tuning of VCO2 was drifting all over the place when we recorded the jam, but I guess it gives that authentic vintage analogue feel... (with apologies to anyone with perfect pitch). Two additional synth tracks were overdubbed after the initial jam session, with effects provided by vintage Boss Super Chorus CH-1 and Vestax DDX digital delay pedals. Some additional reverb was added to the synths at the mixing stage.

Novation Circuit Synthwave - Ambient Remix

Published on Jul 1, 2019 Flak Cannon

"This is an ambient remix of my Novation Circuit Synthwave track (see original here: [posted here]).

I did this version simply by lowering the tempo to 40 and adding lots of effects to the synths (Valhalla Shimmer / Delay etc).

The percussion track did not get completely removed, instead I used it very sparely. This was also the first time when I did a multi-track recording of a song by panning the synths and percussions into separate tracks."

Unique Korg R3 synthesizer in a custom wooden high quality case

Uploaded on Jul 1, 2019

via this auction

"Unique model inserted in a custom cabinet made of solid wood adjusted with precision. The wood used is a very hard exotic species, it comes from n 40 years old table, which ensures stability and pronounced veining. The very soft surface condition was obtained thanks to multiple sanding after successive moorings, which ensures an extremely fine grain. The set then simply received a layer of exotic oil. All functions of the synthesizer are accessible, the power supply has been integrated into the case. The synthesizer is loaded with a good amount of unique ambient patches, which you can listen via the link below [video above]. Equipped with the same sound engine as the Radias, the R3 although little known, is a very powerful and versatile synthesizer."

Folktek Conduit Symbiotic Touch Analog Synthesizer

via this auction

"The Conduit is a symbiotic touch-based drone synthesizer based on a delay which then travels to a filter. Creating swells of oscillation that can delve into eternal noisy feedback territory as one desires. Connect to a sequencer to control the time/pitch and pull forth some powerful synthesis. The touch panel is also a cv keyboard, generating 0-5v in .5v increments.

Kawai K3 Wavetable Synthesizer w/ Analog Filter/Envelope and Juno 106 Chorus circuit

via this auction

Pic of a software editor below. Note the description states the K3 has 31 wavetables. It's actually 31 digital waveshapes. The K3 is not a PPG/Waldorf style wavetable synth where you can sweep through different waveforms in a wavetable. It's closer to the KORG DW8000 and Poly-800 with digital waveforms and analog filters. The K3 has SSM2044 filter chips. It's a beautiful sounding synth.

"Vintage Kawai K3 Wavetable Synthesizer with Analog Filters & Envelopes + Juno 106 Analog Chorus circuit. 31 amazing wavetables (mostly), and an additional one that can be programmed to your specs.

This thing was barely played and sat in climate controlled storage after its life at a 'IBM PC Lab'. The buttons are perfect, and I’d say it’s in A- shape cosmetically – pretty stellar for a 35+ year old synth."

You can build this 808 kick drum clone!

Premiered 5 hours ago juanito moore

"Download and print the circuit paper, get the electronic parts, plug in your soldering iron, and build this with me!

This 808 kick drum circuit is functionally identical to the original TR-808 kick with some cool mods. There's a pitch mod for higher and lower kicks. There's a decay mod that will let you get more-than-infinite decay times (it'll just oscillate forever). There's a wave clipper that'll add harmonics to the kick to make it "cut through" the rest of the sounds, which can be useful if you're using small speakers that can't do real bass. Finally, there's lots more *amplitude*.

I have simplified the circuit in a few ways, making it easier to build. You can build a perfect replica with everything exactly as it was from the factory, including obsolete transistors and 5%-precision carbon resistors if that's your thing, but I don't cover that here.

Here's the bill of materials --
Here's the "circuit page" --
Here's the schematic --

Resistor kit!!! --
Resistors by the value (like for the 8.2K and 2.7K weirdos) --

Improvised Experimental Beat Demo pt. 2 // Elektron Octatrack Demo

Published on Jun 30, 2019 Ron Cavagnaro

"This video shows a purely experimental improvised demo making abstract glitchy beats on the Elektron Octatrack. It begins with a very crude, primitive sounding beats, then carefully molded into engaging complex rhythmic textures. The workflow in this video shows how the slots mode can be used with live-recording constantly set to "on". To access slots mode, hold down "function + arrow key down" and choose 'Slots' from the menu. To toggle on/off Live Recording, hold down rec and press play. Live recording is on if you see the red light blinking. In this demo we had the octatrack running through the Eventide H9 for atmospheric master FX."
