"Composer, conductor and electronic music pioneer Gershon Kingsley, who wrote the top 10 hit “Popcorn” and played a pivotal role in popularizing the synthesizer sound, died Dec. 10 in New York. He was 97.

The Emmy Award-winning composer recorded 'Popcorn' in 1969, but it was a remake by Hot Butter that reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972, and No. 1 in at least six other countries. In 2005, Crazy Frog released its version, with the song again going to No. 1 in a number of countries. In 2018, Kingsley released a yellow vinyl 12” of his trademark song for Record Store Day.

Kingsley, who also composed 'Baroque Hoedown,' the theme song for Disney parks’ Main Street Electrical Parade, was born in Germany in 1922. He came to New York in 1946 and then attended the LA Conservatory of Music..."

You can find previous posts featuring Gershon Kingsley here. One of my favorites growing up in Los Angeles and going to Disneyland as a kid (as well as an adult during NAMM :), was Baroque Hoedown with Jean-Jacques Perrey.

Thank you for the memories Gershon Kingsley, they literally lasted a lifetime. You made the world a better place for so many.

"MAM MB33II analog bass synth. It's a German made TB-303 clone, which means it's circuit path was reverse engineered from the Roland TB-303. It's audio circuit is %100 analog but along with accepting MIDI notes it also transmits and accepts MIDI CC's from it's cutoff, resonance, env. mod, accent, decay and distortion controls. That means that these parameters can be controlled via envelopes in Ableton live so you can sequence multiple knob movements making the tweaking possibilities endless. The unit has been tested and is fully functional. Comes with power supply, manual and original paperwork."

"Here’s the second video with the already lovely sounding E520 big exposed prototype from Synthesis Technology. This will be a Eurorack module for it’s release next year but this is just the development prototype. In this video we explore some other FX, some updates to things we’ve already seen and bathe in not only a lovely shimmer bath … but some gorgeous tape style degradation loops that deteriorate with feedback, warble, saturation and filtering like real tape based sound on sound looping. Heck, I even broke out the Telecaster for a change. I was up to revisite this instrumental cover I've already made twice in the past. As I liked the arrangements for the upcoming Wonder Woman 84 movie OST (Hans Zimmer me thinks?), I decided to play New Order's 'Blue Monday' again, building a backtrack more faithful to the studio version in combination with some of the OST arrangements. [previous versions here]

Live jam featuring Ian Bostic on drums and Alfonse on the Novation Bass Station ii, as well as the 1986 Yamaha PSS-460 and 1989 Yamaha PSS-580 FM mini-synths. The PSS-460 tracks were overdubbed later (the lead was double-tracked and slightly detuned to sound a little bigger), with effects provided by two TC Electronic pedals: Alter Ego delay on the Copycat and Specho settings and the Hall of Fame mini reverb.

First I programmed a drum pattern in the TR-808, then a BASS line with the Juno 106. Next, I used an Arp sound with the Juno 60, and added some support with the Jupiter 8. "ANALOGUE SYSTEMS 'EMS SYNTHIFILTER' DEMO

A simple sequence of a single Depfer A-110-1 VCO with sawtooth waveform fed into the only officially licensed clone of the EMS filter built by Analogue Systems in collaboration with EMS.

Initially only the resonance is heard, then the VCO comes in, with on/offs of the soft/hard (fast/slew) slope with the filter set to 18db as in the original.

Delay is a TC Electronic D-TWO, reverb a Vermona DRS3 stereo spring reverb.

Recorded with a Tascam DA-3000 high-end digital recorder.

BTW this is also a demo of how one single VCO can sound unbelievable..."

“The PSS-50 Programmable Super Section was released in 1984. Different chordal accompaniment patterns/sounds, bass lines, and drum patterns could be combined into custom machine-music combinations. In this lo-res video it’s providing the backup for a Poly-800 routed through some PME-40X effects. (The keyboard-guitar thing was definitely a phase, and the vibrations from Al Di Meola’s Tour-De-Force LP were still in the air.)
