Parker NiteFly SA Guitar with Factory Roland Ready GK-2A and Roland GR-300 Guitar Synthesizer

Published on Jan 31, 2020 WayneJoness

"In August of 2006 I found this really, really rare Parker NiteFly SA guitar on ebay. This was a stunning NiteFly SA with a factory installed Roland GK-2A kit. I have never seen one of these before or since. As the Roland kit was factory installed, all the controls, knobs, etc. fit seamless with the standard controls. This NiteFly SA was a true jack-of-all-trades guitar. In addition to the sweet custom DiMarzio pickups, the guitar also had a Fishman pickup installed for acoustic tones. And topping everything off was the Roland 13 pin GK output as well.

In my MIDI speed tests, this guitar has proven to be a real tracking champion as well. Response time was a blazing 15.96 milliseconds using the Roland GI-20 Pitch-to-MIDI converter. This is a tracking speed that is on par with the latest technology available.

In the video, you can see the guitar demonstrated with the Roland GR-300. At the time I was making the RC-1324-PDL, a pedal that accepted a modern 13-pin input and supplied a vintage 24-pin output. The pedal included trimmers for each string, plus two filter preset settings, modulation control and resonance, as well as output presets. The pedal needed to replicate the controls found on a vintage guitar synth controller which are not a part of the GK-2/GK-3 design. You can hear the guitar controlling a Roland GR-100, GR-300 and GR-700.

As much as I loved the sound and flexibility of this guitar, I was never able to adjust to the thin, carbon fibre neck. Do not get me wrong, the neck is awesome, with its stainless steel frets and dead-on intonation. But I found the neck a little fatiguing, as I really prefer a fatter neck. And so, like many guitars, it eventually left and found another owner courtesy of ebay."

Parker NiteFly SA with Factory Internal Roland GK-2A and Roland GR-700 Analog Guitar Synthesizer

Published on Jan 31, 2020 WayneJoness

"This video demonstrates using a Parker NiteFly SA with a factory Roland GK-2A internal pickup. This is a rare guitar, with the Roland electronics installed at the factory. This is the same pickup as found in the original Fender Roland Ready guitars. A RC-1324 converter is used to boost the signals from the Roland 13-pin output to be compatible with the 24-pin system. This enables the Parker NiteFly SA to play a vintage Roland GR-700 Analog guitar synthesiter."

Gamechanger Audio Light Pedal - Optical Spring Reverb Pedal

Published on Jan 31, 2020 Perfect Circuit

"The Gamechanger Audio Light Pedal is a next-generation take on the spring reverb concept—by adding optical sensing to typical spring reverb techniques, the Light Pedal brings new tricks and sonic definition to this classic effect.

Light Pedal uses a series of optical sensors to detect displacement of light generated by the vibrating of a traditional spring tank. This eliminates the mechanical loss of energy required to turn the spring's vibrations back into sound, and thereby makes it such that Light Pedal can produce a much broader range of colors than the typical dark, murky spring tank. By alternating between reading multiple optical sensors and introducting feedback, Light Pedal can additionally create effects ranging from tremolo and shimmer to howling tones and harmonic sweeps.

Like all prior Gamechanger releases, the Light Pedal is a refreshing take on a traditional concept, extending its sonic potential considerably.

"The Jupiter 6 is a fantastic analog polysynth that's a little bit of an underdog compared to its siblings the 4 and the 8! However, it is very powerful and is likely overlooked due to the immense fame of the others. Its a dual VCO 6 voice with cross mod capabilities, sync, and triangle, square and saw waveforms. The filter section includes standard low pass but also band pass and high pass operation. The filter envelope routing is not preset so envelope 1, 2, or both can be assigned to control the it! The LFO section is fully featured including a random output and onset delay. Of course there is full preset saving and plenty of performance oriented controls. The one downside is that it does not include chorus or ensemble like many of the other Roland polys! It does have the coolest color scheme and those futuristic aluminum sides though. The external analog ins include arpeggiator clock in, patch shift, pedal hold and CV for the VCA and VCF. Of course it has MIDI as well so there is tons of interfacing available.

This synth is in great working condition and was just serviced by our in house technician. The panel assembly, bender and keybed were refurbished, faders and jacks were resoldered, the master tune pot was replaced, and a standard IEC connector was installed. The replaced master tune pot does not fit the original knob due to lack of an old stock part to replace it with. We will include the original knob with the sale. Cosmetically the synth is looking good but has some wear on the back and a taped on note of the I/O fused to the top corner. The keys are in great shape and are very white. One of the fader caps in the envelope section is significantly more yellow than the others and of course there is the replaced tune knob. All buttons are functioning fine and it sounds incredible as usual!"

"1970s Moog Sonic Six Synthesizer. Serial number 2004. This is the version with the Moog ladder filter. It works (makes sound) and all sliders/parameters seem to work, but it probably needs some service/calibration/tuning and the keybed would benefit from re-lubrication. The power supply has been partially rebuilt with new filter capacitors and diodes. It's in pretty good shape cosmetically (Please refer to photos for condition). It is missing a few slider caps although most of the original ones are intact. The internal speaker works..."

#Jamuary2020 08, Arturia MicroFreak and Zoom MS-70CDR, Played Delays

Published on Jan 31, 2020 Waveformer

"Playing with the delays as a live improvisation instrument, using the Arturia MicroFreak and Zoom MS-70CDR.

My music on Bandcamp: http://waveformer42.bandcamp.com/

The patches for the MicroFreak and the MS-70 are included below.

This jam features three Zoom MS-70CDRs running in parallel, with long delays timed to fill in the gaps in the slow eight note arpeggiated pattern played by the MicroFreak. The long delays are accompanied by a trigger (fast, repetitive) delay, a filter delay, an auto-pan delay and a reverse delay. Delays are turned on and off during the jam to vary the melody and intensity.

The Zoom MS-70CDR patches are included below. To load a patch into the MS-70, connect your MS-70 to your computer using a USB cable, go to https://g200kg.github.io/zoom-ms-util..., right-click an available patch slot, select "Import Patch from text", and paste in this text.

Deep & dark jam w/ Deckard's Dream, Octatrack, ContinuuMini, modular (collab w/ Crooked Walking)

Published on Jan 31, 2020

"A live, semi-improvised hardware performance, and inspired by late-night collaboration. Tim Rich (aka Crooked Walking) was kind enough to host me as we stumbled our way into making a song from scratch. I handled some of the bones of the structure, and Tim was masterful in detailing the song with rich, unpredictable modular sounds. He also took advantage of the ContinuuMini (and its EagenMatrix internal synth engine) to make a great lead voice. I'm super pleased with the results of our night of hanging out.

At the end of the session, we decided we'd both take the audio and video and mix it in our respective ways. As such, please check out Crooked Walking's version of the audio and video here!: [below]

Written and performed in a 3-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.

Elektron Octatrack MkII — Drums, bass, ambience, MIDI sequencing for the Deckard's, effects for the Deckard's, master-level effects and scenes
Black Corporation Deckard's Dream — Three synth lines

Crooked Walking's setup, in order of appearance (thanks to Tim for writing this):

Morphagene – I caught an interesting loop in the 4ms Dual Looping Delay while I was running a different Quanta patch and recorded a couple variations of the patch into Morphagene. The Gene Size and Slide parameters are being manually controlled from the left two sliders on the Intellijel Tetrapad. The morph and Organize parameters are being modulated by the Malekko Voltage Block.

QuantaPercussion – This is a drone coming from Quanta on the iPad running one of the new Hainbach test equipment patches. The Quanta is set to drone a few notes that are then run into the modular. They are patched through a VCA with a Intellijel ADSR envelope being triggered by the Monome Grid running the Kria software on the Ansible module. The output of the VCA is then run into the 4ms Dual Looping Delay which is being controlled manually throughout the video (top right of the eurorack). The output of the Dual Looping Delay is going into the Intellijel Planar for some panning effects modulated by an LFO from the Monome Arc4. Finally, it’s being output into the Make Noise QPAS. The stereo width controls are being modulated by the Malekko Voltage Block. The filter cutoff is being controlled manually from the right most slider on the Intellijel Tetrapad. The high pass output from the QPAS is then recorded.

ContinuuMini – The ContinuuMini is running a choir preset from the EaganMatrix directly into Ableton. There are several plugins on the patch, most notably Ableton Echo for delay and the XLN RC20 Retro Color emulating an old cassette tape to lower the fidelity of the otherwise pristine sounding ContinuuMini.

Kick – The Intellijel Plonk SubKick preset is being triggered by the Monome Grid (running the Kria program on the Ansible module as described above in the Quanta Percussion description). The output is running through the LoFi Junky and, most importantly, through the Klangbau Rohren Tube VCA.

Crooked Walking x Jay Hosking | Modular, Deckard's Dream, ContinuuMini, Octatrack +

Published on Jan 31, 2020 Crooked Walking

"This is my first full track in a long time, and I'm so excited that I got to make it with Jay Hosking. Some recent major (positive) life changes have kept me from making music, but I've finally got my new space setup and am back to making sounds.

Jay is a wizard with the Octatrack and really built the structure of this piece. The first two minutes are mostly him performing with Deckard's and the Octatrack."

Exploring Serge patch techniques from 'My First Serge Patch' // #JAMUARY2020 DAY 31

Published on Jan 31, 2020 DivKidVideo

"Let's end #JAMUARY2020 with a "first", ending on a first, seems like a nice thing to say and do. Here's exploring some Serge patching techniques (these can apply to any format) based on my first Serge patch on my Edelweiss Serge panel that I took to Matthew Shaw's studio for a literal first patching of that system. With some ideas from Matthew about using the DUSG as syncing oscillators it turned into a 3 oscillator synced sub harmony chordal voice that faded in and out and sequenced itself beautifully. I couldn't replicate the sync/locked sub harmonies quiet the same as the first patch but it was fun to re build this and share some Serge format content with you."

Korg SDD-2000 - Digital Sampling Delay | 1985

Published on Jan 30, 2020 Espen Kraft

"Sampling in 1985 was very expensive, but since all samplers basically are digital delays, Korg came up with the idea to trigger the delay from MIDI, hence playing the samples. This way you could have affordable sampling in 1985, albeit in mono and no sample editing of any kind. Regardless, this was a very good option on a budget."
