Novation Bass Station, PPG Wave 2.v & Ableton Vocoder Electro | Synth & Sundry

Synth & Sundry

"Made this track a while ago with several synth VSTs including Novation Bass Station, PPG Wave 2.V and Ableton's built in Vocoder (which came in with version 9). I am really happy with how the synthesizer melodies came out so I went ahead and made a video for it. Let me know how you like it!

Track name: Triangulation
Artist: Synth & Sundry

For the video I used some aeronautical charts from this website: http://vfrmap.com and overlayed them to intensify the effect.

Roland JP-8 JUPITERS Symphony in c minor

synthlegends

"Today I switched on my JP-8 after quiet a long time and made a very extended session of improvised music. I decieded to call it JUPTERS Symphony in c minor dedicated to the 40 th anniversary of this stunning flagship synthesizer, maybe the best Roland ever did. I used the BOSS Dimension C Chorus Pedal and the GFI Clockwork Delay Pedal, I really love.

Most of the patches are in Dual or Split mode using quite often the arpeggiator or two almost equal patches in stereo, on of it with portamento. You can listen to many small episodes linked together to a journey of different sounds of the JP-8 like bells, leads, arps, pads, strings, brass, bass etc.

I recorded the JP-8 left and right channel into the BOSS Chorus, from there into the GFI Delay and from there into the audio interface. Some of the demo I recorded in stereo, most of it in two stereo tracks from the mono left and right out of the GFI Delay. In the DAW I doubled the tracks to get them in half right and half left to get a better stereo field. There are no additional FX in the DAW or mastering, compression etc.

Have fun and enjoy the music and pictures. Cheers, Ruediger"

Fantasy Soundtracks Ep:3 'Body Snatchers' (Analog Synth)

DreamsOfWires

"3rd of a series of simple live jams inspired by some of my favourite vintage sci-fi and horror from the cinema and TV. I thought it'd be a fun idea to see what I can do with a simple setup, perhaps ony 2 analog synth voices, and modest digital effects. The synthesizer soundtracks of the 70's and early 80's were often very simple, spartan compositions, which is what made them special I think.

In this instance I'm using my AJH Eurorack modular synth to generate two voices: The first is some pink noise from the GLide + Noise module being processed by the Gemini dual filter, which is being used in 'Dual' mode, and modulated by the Dual LFO, then into a VCA. The second voice is 2 Transistor Core VCO's going into the ring modulator on the Entropic Doom, a third VCO going into the Ring SM, and then both are mixed in the Transistor Ladder filter then into a second VCA.

I saw both the 1978 and 1956 versions of 'Invasion fo the Body Snatchers' multiple times, and both scared me, but particularly the later version. Watching the '78 version again recently I was expecting the usual disappointment of an adult perspective, but I was pleasantly (or horrifically) suprised - I actually still found it an unsettling movie and well worth a watch.

Robaux 3PT

robaux

"The Robaux 3PT is a multimode three-channel control voltage generator."

And a demo from Synth Diy Guy:

"I make a song using this cool Cyclops of a multimode modulation source on every track!"

via Robaux

"The module offers seven different modes. These include a performance tool, chord generator, random generator, quantizer, sequencer or LFO. The modes can be changed by pressing the mode button in the top right. The ring-shaped display shows which mode has been selected.

Tripot
In Tripot mode you can control three parameters of your Eurorack with just one knob - perfect for live performances. You can set the voltage of the large knob individually for each channel. Whether from 0V to 5V, 5V to 0V or something in between. With the offset parameter you can determine whether the change is parallel to the big knob or whether it is moved to the beginning or the end. You can use the CV input with an external CV source instead of the big knob.

LFO
In LFO mode you can use the module as a triple modulation oscillator. The big knob sets the main frequency. Each channel has an adjustable frequency multiplier. You can blend smoothly between sine, triangle, sawtooth and rectangle and shift the phase of each waveform. You can use the CV input with an external CV source instead of the big knob.

Chord Progression
In chord progression mode, you can output triads. Connect it to a CV keyboard and play harmonious chords. You can select the root note between C to B and set the mode between major and minor. The seven matching chords are placed on the white keys of an octave. With the variation control you can spread the notes. For each channel you can set whether the notes are quantized within an octave and also set a note offset to generate atonal chords.

Quantizer
In the quantizer mode you can use the module to quantize incoming notes on up to 25 different scales. Connect a CV keyboard and you will always hit the perfect key! Each channel can use a different root key and scale. The individual scales are divided into five banks. In each bank there are five different scales. It takes some practice to find the right scale, but it is a great way to quantize CV on notes.

Random Generator
You can use the module as a random generator. Plug in a trigger signal to generate three different random voltages. You can set the minimum and maximum random voltage per channel. The voltages can be output linear, or as notes in the scales chromatic, major and minor.

Sequencer
You can use the module as a step sequencer. Connect a clock source and let the sequencer play melodies with up to 8 steps. You can set the note values from trimmer 1 all the way clockwise to trimmer 4. The middle trimmer 5 defines the length of the sequence. The sequencer outputs the linear voltage on channel one. The voltages are output chromatically on channels two and three. The sequence will be split if you reduce the number of steps and output separately on channel two and channel three.

Euclidean Rhythm
You can also use the module as an euclidean rhythm generator. Add a clock source to the CV input and the tripot will output trigger signals. You can define per channel how long the sequence should be and how many pulses are sent in this time. With the rotation parameter you can move the sequence in time."

via this auction

I believe this is the first one to be featured on the site.

"This listing is for a 2020 build of the Random Source Haible Krautrock Phaser, featuring a super-deluxe Van Daal Electronics Compact Phasing ‘X’ enclosure, original-spec incandescent bulbs, WIMA capacitors, Alpha pots, lovely Apem skirted knobs, etc. This unit also has rear switches for LFO/Manual and 2/4/6-stage selection. It has been tested fully working and ships calibrated with the IEC power cable required for operation.

PLEASE NOTE that this unit was built for North American standard voltage (120VAC) and will require a step-up transformer to work overseas.

The Gerd Schulte Compact Phasing ‘A’ is a legendary effect first built in Germany in 1972. Its ultra-thick, swirling sound can be heard on virtually every noteworthy electronic and rock record to emerge during that era, with acts such as Tangerine Dream making it a defining aspect of their sound. In 2007, Juergen Haible reverse-engineered the Schulte Phaser and made several noteworthy improvements, giving a new generation of musicians access to this timeless phaser."

"For sale is a unique solina string. The previous owner had the original wood case removed and had a brand new one built. This was done by a former Moog employee I know(small world!) and I verified the work done was a rebuild of the exterior wood and he also fixed the sticking sliders.

Everything works great on this solina in particular. All keys are good and responsive. All buttons and sliders work great. Outputs and pedals work as expected. Only things to note are the power cable is old, but works great(noting cause you can tell it's old) and the output panel's metal/letting is a bit worn as you can see in the pictures but the outputs work perfect."

SynLimb live modular set as aired on modular.world Ep 3 (June 13 2020)

"Live modular performance with our SynLimb arm-prosthesis-to-CV hack. I've been practicing a lot and am slowly getting there. The modular is sequenced by the Winter Modular Eloquencer in the first half; I then transition to the Toraiz Squid. It was a lot of fun to play this in our living room. Thanks to my husband Daniel for filming. This was aired on modular.world on June 13 2020 with a Q&A afterwards:"

"The Digitakt is awesome, but with that out of the way.. It's not perfect. There is a lot i wish would change in a Digitakt Firmware update but we'll see since Elektron just released one on June 9, 2020. After a year or so of using the Digitakt, i've found new flaws in it that i originally didn't know existed!"

Casio Casiotone MT-600 keyboard demo - "Owl Nebula"

Alfonse

"Casio Casiotone MT-600 keyboard (1987)
All sounds you hear in the track were made using the MT-600 and recorded to a DAW, where compression, EQ, and reverb were added as required. I also double-tracked a couple of synth parts (tuned fractionally differently each time) to give them a fatter sound. Individual drum hits were sampled from slowed-down rhythms and processed to allow fresh beats to be built, rather than using the rhythms found on the MT-600 itself.

The aim of these videos is to see what you can create using sounds from ageing home keyboards together with current production tools. The MT-600 was a preset version of the HT-700 and has the same factory sounds, but without the opportunity to modify any of them. It's a digital synth that uses Casio's "Spectrum Dynamic" synthesis method, but it also has a resonant analogue filter and stereo chorus, which on the HT-700 can be modified and even tweaked in real-time (although not in the most user-friendly way).

Cosmic Drone - Session 22 - Modular and Vocals Drone Music Performance

The Galaxy Electric

"Thanks for listening! Come on a musical voyage with us where we'll send you a new song every day, a cosmic story, and a chance to earn space treasure: https://thegalaxyelectric.lpages.co/5...

Relax and tune into our live weekly improvised Drone Sessions. This twenty first session involves a drone featuring Buchla style complex and modulation oscillators drifting in and out of tune. There are also other sound elements such as filtered pink noise and bell-like tones. As the oscillator frequencies drift apart by way of manual control, beating ensues. Listening to droning oscillations can serve as mindfulness sounds as there is no sudden changes in sound. Just smooth drifts in pitch and the resulting beat frequencies adn other ambient complimentary fragments of sound. Drones can also serve as an ambient track to have on while doing tasks that require intense focus. Drones are also great for a Sci-fi film soundtrack. The slow yet progressive nature of a drone performance can help one focus on tasks without distraction. The fact that we are manipulating these oscillators live and in collaboration helps the drone meander ever so smoothly in an evolving fashion as we are always reacting to one another's subtle movements. These movements are improvised so there is an unrehearsed and reactive ebb and flow to the tones generated. Engage in the practice deep listening with us.

The electronic music instruments used in this performance of modular drone music are the Buchla Music Easel and a cosmic vocal drone setup using two Boss RE-20 Roland Space Echo pedals.

"In 2001, the Virus Rack was released. This module retains most of the features through version 4.0 but sacrifices polyphony and an oscillator. This was to make the Virus significantly more affordable. Polyphony has been reduced to 16-voices but multitimbrality is still 16-parts. Instead of four, there are three oscillators per voice (two main oscillators plus one sub oscillator). Otherwise it has all the same great features as the Virus B! "

Matrixbrute: "Fatou Dust" (Piscean Drifting)

Kris Lennox

"A piece I wrote for the Matrixbrute, utilising the technique I dub 'Piscean Drifting'. In essence this work is 24-TET, and is drifting between standard pitch to 1/4 tone above/below.

I recently set up a SoundCloud page exclusively for 24-TET works - see here for the included track - https://soundcloud.com/user-166901483...

And a short article I wrote RE 24-TET - https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/24-ton...

With regards the title: around a decade ago I worked my way through Mandelbrot's book "Fractals and Chaos", and it was in this book I learned of the term 'fatou dust'.

Maths aside, I always thought it would make a good title for a work; it was simply a case of waiting for the correct piece/idea to develop.

PS the reverb is external; aside from this, all sounds are from the MB.

PPS piece was written in MIDI, which was then sent to the synth.

All best
Kris"

Cxaxukluth Drone Synth - Demo //01 (drone, ambient, NTS-1, MSG II)

Lowering Skies

"Just to add a bit more of context here. I'm making a Drone synth for iOS and this is its demo. It's a pretty simplistic soundscapes exploration tool primarily targeted to live sets and recordings. Cxaxukluth consists of two Morphing wavetable oscillators, one sub-oscillator and one additive oscillator to smooth rough edges when you need it. There's also a bit reduction algorithm, a cascade of effects, two LFOs and a number of organic unparalleled logic to mix it all together. That's the main part I'm currently testing and working on.

The video also features Moffenzeef MSG II Synthesizer which I love and my new Korg NTS-1.

It's currently in Round 1 Alpha testing and you can try Cxaxukluth right now via TestFlight.

Follow the link https://testflight.apple.com/join/WfG... from an iPad and have TestFlight installed. I would love to hear what do you think about it!"

"Another tech demo of the upcoming iPad drone synth Cxaxukluth. This time with Ciat-Lonbarde Tetrax and Koma's FX/Field Kits. Exploring sub-octave and more clicky side of Cxaxukluth this time. Two main oscillators are detuned and are using different waveshapes and it creates a rhythm pattern as a result."
