video upload by Dj Puzzle

"Welcome to the family B1 Syn Bass. You’re going to like it here. Also in the mix Pulsar 23, Sonicware Liven 8 Bit Warps, Volca Modular, and Volca Kick. The Korg SQ-64 sends main sync to the Blackbox via MIDI DIN which is sequencing the Pulsar 23. It also sends sync to the Liven 8 Bit Warps and Korg Volcas. The second MIDI DIN out on the SQ-64 sends sync to the Donner B1 Syn Bass."

Flight of Harmony Famine

video uploads by flightofharmon

via Flight of Harmony (pre-orders open): don't miss the disclaimer below.

Famine is a voltage-controlled power starvation module, a teasing taste of electronic death – with the ever-present threat of the real thing. Your system will squeal, stutter, fuzz, and shriek, in new ways as you torture it while discovering the sublime joys of Schadenfreude.

Famine is capable of handling 1.5A, enough for an entire busboard of modules.

All/Split:
• In the All position, positive and negative rails track together using the All/+V knob and CV input and the -V knob and CV input are ignored.
• In the Split position, positive and negative are separated and controlled from their respective knob and CV input.

Crush/Wrack:
• In the Crush position, positive and negative mirror each other, i.e., +5V & -5V, +6V & -6V.
• In the Wrack position, positive and negative track inversely, i.e., 0v & -10V, +1V & -9V, +8V & -2V, etc.

Starve/Feed:
Starve position to starve, Feed position to bypass circuit entirely.

L.E.D.s
The LEDs indicate the level of starvation and glow brightest at 0V output.

Notes:

• Most effective on analog systems. Since digital is based on the principle of either on or off, there’s not much to play with there. Systems with bootup periods are particularly annoying.
• NO RELAYS, GAUGES, MOTORS, FANS, OR OTHER INDUCTIVE SYSTEMS.

Disclaimer:
Famine may destroy your system. Voltage starvation is a largely unstudied technique and the dangers it poses are not well known or understood, but range from general malfunction to actual fire and catastrophic failure. Any use of this module is entirely at your own risk.

DO NOT USE with inductive or electromechanical systems. Inductive kickback has been verified to be responsible for module failure – and was the only type of module to have been observably damaged in our testing so far.

Arcane Firmware Update - 3 Jams Snippets

video upload by SPHERICAL SOUND SOCIETY

"So Im updating the ARCANE firmware. Now the buttons do some byte operations directly to the registers of the Yamaha chip, making the thing way more playable in a logical or musical way. I have also tweak the ranges of the pots and added a totally new feature to the 'sequence' pot that I will document when its ready

Here I have some audio jams recorded in better quality in soundcloud:

The firmware update will be free for existing ARCANE users and new units will ship with it.

/*/*/*/*/*

ARCANE is a generative synth that lies somewhere between a synth, a sequencer and a drum machine, depending on how you interact with it.

It is based on an authentic Yamaha YM2413 FM chip; the one used in some arcade coin ops, MSX and in the japanese version of the Sega Master System.

To control it it has 6 potentiometers and 3 buttons. The pots are:

-Tempo. It controls the tempo/speed

-Base Register. It determines if the machine is more musical or glichy

-Intensity. The higher this pot, the more amount of notes and percusions sounding. This is a veru playable way of alter the generative composition by transitioning between the simple and complex sound explorations

-Sequence. It let you browse between sequences.

-Dispersion. the higher this pot, the most registers that we are writing on the chip, so the sequences get more complex and chaotic

-Combination. It multiplex, demultiplex and recombines sequences, keeping the output related but always fresh and different

It has 3 buttons, Left, Right and Reset. Reset is located in the arduino and is self explanatory. Left and Right buttons are to be determined as the firmware is still in development.

It has Clock In and Clock Out so you can synch it with external gear

It comes fully assembled and ready to play.

You can get assembled units, kits and PCBs at:

Chaotic Pressure Array Synthesizer

video upload by Peter Corbett

"This was my team's submission to our 4th year EE Capstone project. The synth features chaotically phase-modulated oscillators (Lorenz Attractor), and a dynamic and expressive 2 dimensional pressure input device:

X-axis = pitch
Y-axis = filter cutoff + chaotic mod index
Z-axis (pressure) = amplitude + filter cutoff

The pressure pad is comprised of a sheet of Velostat sandwiched between vertical and horizontal strips of conductive tape. Shift registers apply voltage to each column sequentially, and analog multiplexers scan each row to build an array of pressure readings for all the cells. This is driven by an ESP32, which in turn transmits UART data to a Raspberry Pi 4B.

A python script receives pressure data and parses it into note events. Higher order interpolation methods are employed to capture inter-cell peaks and improve positional resolution. The DSP synth engine is built in PureData with a TouchOSC front end."

OP-1 Field's Dimension Synth Presets

video upload by EZBOT

"In this video I share a clip of the new OP-1 Fields Dimension synth presets. This video clip was sent to me by a friend who is a beta tester for Teenage Engineering. He plugged his OP-1 directly into his iPhone and filmed these presets for me to share with you. I always thought the OP-1 needed an easy to read subtractive synthesizer, this engine appears to be just that."

Mamotreco OP-1 Mixtape Diary #2 | Teenage Engineering Synth

video upload by Mamotreco

"Welcome to another entry in my synth music diary with the Teenage Engineering OP-1. This time is eschew the radio samples from the last mixtape ([posted here]) and focus on the internal TE OP 1 synth sounds. No external sounds were added. Everything you hear is 100% Teenage Engineering OP-1. #op1 #teenageengineering #synth

I then played live over the top of the tape in one take, using further OP-1 synth sounds on top of what I had done before. There's also a couple of times where I use the Memory 1 momentary button to change the overall sound. Apologies if the final product is a bit rough, but that's how it goes with the OP-1, it's immediate and not everything is perfect but that's why I love it, great to break through writers block and get making music.

Acids RAVE - Realtime Audio Variational autoEncoder

video upload by Realtime Neural Audio Synthesis - embedded RAVE #2 Acids Team - Ircam

From the makers of Neurorack.

"Official implementation of RAVE: A variational autoencoder for fast and high-quality neural audio synthesis (article link) by Antoine Caillon and Philippe Esling.

RAVE comes with two command line utilities, resample and duration. resample allows to pre-process (silence removal, loudness normalization) and augment (compression) an entire directory of audio files (.mp3, .aiff, .opus, .wav, .aac). duration prints out the total duration of a .wav folder.

Once trained, you can reconstruct an entire folder containing wav files"

Pink Floyd’s original EMS Synthi AKS?

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Based on the tape it looks like this one listed last year. The price has gone up! The tape lists W.L.B. NIXON in London. If it's the same W.L.B. NIXON, he is the author of How a Computer Works - "University of London, Institute of Computer Science, 1969 - Electronic digital computers - 179 pages".

"This is one of 4 EMS Synthi AKS that was purchased to produce Dark Side of the Moon. They used this to produce On the Run, the intro Bass on Time and synth part on Any Colour You Like. I’ve used this to recreate the effect on the electric piano that John Paul Jones used a VCS3 for on No Quarter. It’s a dream machine and has loads of character. It took a second to wrap my head around tuning it but it’s a simple procedure that makes this much more usable than many people tend to report. I’m happy to make a YouTube video on that procedure and the idea behind patching with the pin matrix. This is The EMS Synthi AKS used by David Gilmour so I’m listing as a collectors item. It sounds amazing but you have to know how to use it to dial in clean sounds and I’m happy to demonstrate this for a serious buyer. I also have a DK1 keyboard that has been modded to be a DK2 (duophonic), this is $3500 if you are interested. This will also come with the templated patch cards Battle and Keyboard. I purchased an adaptor to be able to connect CV outputs (from my keystep pro) to the Jones connector which also helps make running a more complex sequence in a modern set up super easy."
