Modbap Trinity and Hue // Drum Synth Meets Color Processor

video upload by Patchwerks

"In this stream Matthew (aka EZBOT) will be exploring both the Modbap Trinity, a three channel drum machine in eurorack format, and Hue, a color processor also in eurorack format.

Get the Modbap Trinity here: https://bit.ly/trinity_drum
Get the Modbap Hue here: https://bit.ly/hue_color_processor

TRINITY is a 3 channel Digital Drum Synth Array packed into a 20hp eurorack synthesizer. Effectively, Trinity performs as 3 powerful drum voices packaged into one beastly drum module with a few tricks up its sleeve.

HUE is an audio color and textural processing effect, in 6hp eurorack format. Hue is comprised of a chain of 5 effects (Drive, Filter, Tape Saturation, LoFi, Compressor). Each effect imparts a particular coloration, tone, distortion, and/or texture to the source audio. With HUE, Drums bang with more intensity & melodies morph into lush LoFi tones.

Three Yamaha CS80s – Live in Action!

video upload by Andy Whitmore

"I have taken the last 3 live takes I recorded & play them simultaneously to show an exciting interaction of 3 CS80s jamming together!

Since the release of my video - “Yamaha CS80: The Most Iconic Sound Machine of All Time”, I’ve had requests for specific videos including:
Famous tracks using the CS80
How to program a CS80
CS80 vs the Jupiter 8
Could you demo the bass line from the 1980 Doctor Who theme?
Have you recorded any of your performances where you (a) demonstrate technique on the instrument??

& more.

So today – as requested – I have built an instrumental from scratch & recorded exclusively the CS80 to do all the parts.

I have split the video into 4 separate videos

The making of “Colourful Mountains”

1
How To Make A Track With The Famous Yamaha CS80

Here I take a basic drum pattern from Splice, then lay a bass sound using 3 different sounds from the CS80 including a sine wave for the bottom end.
I lay the chords & a CS80 brass part referenced from Rosanna by Toto.
I then lay a Vangelis inspired sequence part
Wind fx inspired by CS80 wizard – Kent Spong
Then I lay 3 live takes of CS80 which work together to complete the production
2
This Yamaha CS80 Live Multitrack Recording is Stunning
After recording the bass & pad, I record 5 takes down. In this video, you see the 5 takes - unedited from the beginning of the track to the end - complete as they are recorded.
3
Three Yamaha CS80s – Live in Action!
I have taken the last 3 live takes I recorded & play them simultaneously to show an exciting interaction of 3 CS80s jamming together!
4
Yamaha CS80 dissected – how does it sound?
Hear the dry takes in solo that made up “Coloured Mountains”. I have taken CS80 dry stems, so that you can hear the synth on its own in solo.

Thanks for watching & remember to subscribe so that I can keep these videos coming.

Herzlich Labs MAXIMA Touch Controller

video upload by Esoteric Music Machines

"Super fun first play with the Herzlich Labs https://www.etsy.com/shop/HerzlichLab... MAXIMA touch controller, interfacing with Ieaskul F Mobenthey modules (Fourses, Denum, Denum, Sprott).

It's a really fun controller that works particularly well with the BOUNDS inputs on many IFM modules. It's housed in a custom (3D printed?) case, it's very fun to use, and I don't understand how an unpowered controller can even do what this one does, but there you are."

via this auction

"The MMI Maxima is the final word in MMI technology. Beautiful gold patterns form gradients of touch sensitive surface areas, each connected to an input/output. Drag, rub, pinch or tap your fingers across to form connections, and create evocative and unique performances. Utilize the various pattern densities and shapes in your performance, or create installations with whatever conductive material is to hand.

Operation is easy: simply plug any audio, LFO, CV, trigger, gate, offset or clock into any of the inputs on the front panel, and connect one or several outputs to destinations in your system. The symbols near the sockets correspond to the shapes on the panel, and all that remains is for you to form the connection between the desired symbols with your hand, or any other conductive object you may have. Connect multiple at the same time to achieve liquid, gradual mixing, evolving rhythmic patterns, mixed LFOs and more. Furthermore, touch the pressure plates more firmly or in more dense areas to form stronger connections - in practice, this means a signal will pass with more or less intensity, based on the pressure you apply."

KadImprov #8 - Above the City - #CasioSK1 - #MoogMother-32 - #ProphetRev2 - #Syntrx

video upload by KadiMusic

"Welcome to #KadImprov Sessions #8: 'Above the city'

I envisioned a flight above a megacity while making this track. Sounds illustrating the vibes and rhythms in the different areas of a techno dystopian metropolis.

For this track I used the #CasioSK1 filtered with the Electro-Harmonix Frequency Analyzer and the #ProphetRev2 on the main chords. I played the arpeggio pattern on the Moog #Mother-32. The drone sound design was made on the #Syntrx."

Lo-Fi Debussy Clar De Lune with Tascam Portastudio 424 and Make Noise Strega

video upload by riotbell

"This is just a simple short piece using the Strega to process Debussy on incoming tape from the Tascam Portastudio 424.

Recorded the Debussy on an old Hammond piano from the mid 1950s that's partially out of tune and has some serious key bed issues (built in lo-fi character I suppose).

When the Strega was first released I was really interested at how it would function as a processor of other instruments. It's surprisingly good at processing a variety of incoming signals. The filter and the delay can add a lot of character, though I wish there was some way to trigger the oscillator.

Honestly, I have mixed feelings on the Strega as a whole. It does some things incredibly well, but lacks a couple of basic features (like Midi) that would really open up the possibilities. Meanwhile, as much as I want to like the touch plates, they feel a bit like gimmicky overkill considering all the patch points (hope I'm wrong about this).

I might do a spoken review if folks are interested. I'm kicking around the idea of making spoken reviews and tutorials a bigger part of this channel, but haven't had as much free time as earlier in the year.

Thanks for listening."

Tera Pro 1.5 Update

video upload by VirSyn

"Tera Pro WAVES in app purchase now comes with two WAVES modules.

The WAVES module adds classic Wavetable synthesis to the sound palette of Tera Pro. It’s an optional module which you can purchase separately. Wavetable synthesis is a sound design technique which uses morphing oscillator waves to create sounds.
Wavetables can store a variable number (From 1 to 1024) of different frames/waves, allowing you to scroll through from one wave to the next, creating a new level of movement in your sound design. This movement can be stepwise as in the famous early PPG synths or smooth (using interpolation) and antialiased for a polished modern sound. Tera Pro WAVES allows you to explore this entire range.
WAVES allows for different waveform frame sizes in the range of 128 up to 4096 samples per cycle and up to 1024 frames. More than a thousand public domain wavetables covering most areas are already included in WAVES, and more can be added by the user."

Liven Lofi 12 - Old School Breakbeat Slicing & Stretching

video upload by ChrisLody

0:00 Answering your questions
3:10 Cutting breakbeats into separate hits
7:18 Sample start position automation

"Here's a nice nerdy one about the new Sonicware Liven Lofi-12 sampler. This will seem very familiar to anyone that's watched my Volca Sample video on the same subject because it uses the same method but it's less complex to setup on the Lofi-12

It's equip with a decent set of tools that we can use to create some interesting effects like old school beat slicing, stretching and pitch shifting

Here is the BPM calculator I mentioned:
https://toolstud.io/music/bpm.php
1 bar of 75bpm audio is 3.2 seconds
3.2 seconds / 4 seconds max recording time = 0.8
10000 maximum slice points * 0.8 = 8000
So the end of a 75bpm drum loop is at 8000 in the sample edit mode

128 values / 16 steps = 8
So to spread a sample across 16 steps program the Start setting onto the steps like this:
0, 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80, 88, 96, 104, 112, 120"

I used the E-MU Emax SE Sampling Synthesizer (1986) for all sounds incl. the drums.

The E-MU Emax was one of the most used sampling synthesizers of the late 80s. Here is the full Emax playlist with a lot sampling sound demos, sampling tutorials and one synth demo tracks.
