Tiptop Buchla 245t to Cycle 281t

video upload by Todd Barton

"Using the 245t Sequencer to engage the Cycling input on the 281t then sending that to various parameters on the 258t Dual Oscillator. Basically taking a nondescript sequence and giving is it some dramatic character.

Paul sticks to his promise

video upload by Paul McGowan, PS Audio

I get a kick out of watching PS Audio's videos. Paul comes across as a great guy, but when will he play that Moog?! He's just laughing at us!

And no, he doesn't play it in this video. It just appears in the background of some of his videos. This time it's patched up though, so someone was tinkering around with it. Hmm... Curious what the patch sounds like.

On the book:

"As promised, as soon as Paul's new book, The Aurora Project is ready, you will be the first to know. Here it is! A thriller you can't put down. Help Paul launch his new book. Go to https://www.amazon.com/Aurora-Project... or simply type The Aurora Project into an Amazon search field. And, thank you."

"Requested demonstration of using the Facehugger to control a Sound of Shadows PT2399 delay module. Again, a lot of noodling and experimenting.
I have to say, that I honestly wasn't expecting much with this ne but oh boy, was I wrong. This was a LOT of fun. I really wasn't expecting a lot of what came out of this.

Round 1: Circuit Tracks vs Circuit Rhythm // Novation Live

video upload by NovationTV

"Watch Novation’s US Product Specialist Team - Shanda, Evan, John, Kody, and Casey - as they all use the same sound pack to create different songs, whilst showing the key performative differences between Circuit Tracks and Circuit Rhythm, in this live producer jam.

Circuit Tracks is an extraordinary standalone groovebox for the modern producer. With two refined polyphonic digital synth tracks, four drum tracks, creative FX and on-the-go capabilities, it’s the perfect hands-on device for the agile music maker.

Circuit Rhythm is the powerful and versatile standalone sampler for the modern beatmaker. Samples can be recorded directly to the hardware, then sliced sculpted, reversed, looped, resampled and played chromatically — all in the box. Grid FX invigorate your live performances, with lo-fi tape, stutter, beat repeat effects, and more.

EaganMatrix Programming for Osmose using the CVC

video upload by EaganMatrix Programming

"Tested out the CVC connected to Osmose using the Haken Editor and CVC based presets that Expressive E provides in the Utility category. Here's a presentation on the fundamentals of using the CVC both in stand-alone default mode (options selectable in the editor) and programmed through the EaganMatrix.

Note that the Evaton Technologies 'uCVC"' also works if you are primarily interested in monophonic CVC connection (you can chain two together for duophonic operation) but that is not covered here as most will want to maximize using all four CVC channels with Osmose.

Note I also testing downloading Pitch Table Editor (PTE) tunings to the Osmose and they seem to work ok (though the editor is still visually geared for Continuum). So you can explore micro tunings and customer scales including importing Scala files on your modular setup using this connection though I don't go into great detail as PTE is its own video."

BASTL Introduces the Bestie Stereo Mixer

video upload by Bastl Instruments

Follow-up to Bastl Discontinues the Dude

"We are excited to announce our new portable 5-channel stereo mixer Bestie. It is a re-imagination of our popular mixer Dude (released in May 2017), but this time for flexible stereo connectivity and with portable USB-powered setups in mind. But it comes with a twist! We are not new to mixer feedback and distortion so channel 3 on the Bestie is pre-routed as a feedback channel for that extra dirt and distortion. Without the feedback, Bestie is a very clean mixer with a clean boost with up to +20dB per channel and well-crafted saturation characteristics."

Bastl brings us the Bestie, a spiritual successor to their Dude mixer, but this time with a built-in feedback loop and, surely to the delight of many, five channels of stereo operation. Housed in a metal casing, the Bestie is ready for touring, live performance, and with the option to be battery powered, this is one of the best options for recording your outdoor sessions. With the same saturated sound that made the Dude beloved, the Bestie can drive your signal hard and to take that one step further, leave the third channel open and your entire mix will feedback into itself for wild noisy sounds.

In fact, you don't even need to plug any input into the Bestie: create multiple feedback loops with external effects and use the third channel level control to bring in self-oscillating sounds. While it's easy to get over-saturated sounds, the Bestie is also equipped with low-noise preamps letting you use this as a wonderful standard mixer with ease. Each channel can use stereo inputs with channels 1 and 5 having two mono 3.5mm TS inputs and the other using 3.5mm TRS inputs. Along with that, a dedicated headphone output with a pre/post mute option lets you use this as a great live mixer with a cue output if desired. Bastl's Bestie might become your next bestie with its compact size, great size, and creative options.

BESTIE FEATURES

5-channel stereo mixer
Built-in feedback path via channel 3 for no input mixing
Low-noise preamps with overdrive characteristics when pushed
Mute switches for each channel
Headphone output with pre/post mute switch
Up to 20dB of boost per channel
Metal casing
USB-C and AA battery powered

Chillin' with synths (in this economy) | Octatrack & Analog Four

video upload by Mamotreco

"A rough weekend synth track made on the fly with the Elektron Octatrack sampler and Analog Four synth while vocals are processed by Ableton Vocoder. The Octatrack is sending sync and clock to the Analog Four. I'm muting and unmuting parts on the Analog Four to create the semblance of a musical arrangement.

The bumping beats of the Octatrack provide a foundation for the track. The Analog Four is using all four voices here for the different melodic layers that are being brought in and taken out based on how dense I want the synth arrangement to be.

Yamaha CS60 / CRB Computer Drums

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"45 kilos of heavy duty Japanese build quality - we give you the Yamaha CS60.

We just couldn't pass this one on although it's not typically the machine of our choice it sounds incredible. Put on your headphones and you'll get it.

The range of sounds you get out of this synthesizer seems frankly endless and the general interaction with an important instrument always makes us want to sell all our other machines and just keep this one instead. We have to think about this - meanwhile it's going to a Yamaha CS-series specialised repair man for a new ribbon control and a general calibration since it's never been tuned or serviced in its 45 year old life - also kind of incredible - the build-quality is insane.

On drums we got the elusive CRB Computer Drums - the drum section from the Computer Band 2000."

"This particular synth is Prophet 5 Rev 3.0 (1980-1984 era), meaning it is amongst the first with the Curtis-chip design. This vintage synth was fully serviced recently by Bell Tone Synth works about 18 months ago and works fantastic.

Restoration was done by Allison Stout at Bell Tone Synth Works of Upper Darby, PA, I am including all of the paperwork for view for interested buyers so they can see the work and care put into this synth. The synth functions as new with the factory programs."
