Multivox Model MX202 String & Bass Keyboard Synthesizer SN 834036

via this auction

"Made in Japan sometime in the 1970s, it is a Multivox String & Brass keyboard synthesizer. Model MX-202. 61 keys. All kinds of various little functions. We tested it out today. It seems like everything works EXCEPT for the G#2 key, which does not work in any setting. The settings are brass, strings 1 & 2, along with the ability to blend them together. There is also the ability to select which of these sounds are played over the lower and upper sections of the keyboard. There is vibrato, sustain, and slow attack. The ensemble (chorus effect) has 2 modes. The voices sound very cool. It has a very retro sound, and when you put the sustain combined with the pitch modulator together and do some simple arpeggios, it sounds like is straight out of the "Stranger Things" TV show. Stand not included. The case is functional. The handle, latches, and hinges all work."

Behringer's EMS VCS3 Update

The Behringer EMS VCS3 was first mentioned in 2017. A patch point render was teased in 2019, followed by a protype in 2021 here and here. In 2022 Behringer announced the clone was nearing completion with 50 units in the works.

The lastest update from Behringer follows:

"We’d like to give you some exciting update about our VCS3.

In our previous update we shared our mechanical challenges with the pin matrix, which have now been resolved. We’re very pleased to report that it has passed a stringent 100,000 lifecycle test.

We’re now shipping units to our beta testers for final testing and comparison with the original synthesizer. Once passed, we will start manufacturing.

We know this synth has taken much longer than we thought, but we’re sure the wait is worth it.

Thanks for all your patience and support:-)"

EMEAPP/CHERRY AUDIO PS-3300

video upload by EMEAPP

"Are you thinking of purchasing the new Cherry Audio PS-3300 plugin? Check out this video! Make sure you purchase it directly from cherryaudio.com as 10% of the profits will be donated to our organization during the month of October. An option for an additional $5 donation is also available at checkout so please consider that as well, your support is greatly appreciated!

While we were involved in prior product releases (GX-80 and Novachord), this was our first collaboration from the ground level with Cherry Audio and we definitely wanted to make an impression. We felt that a recreation of our cherished and ultra-rare KORG PS-3300 polyphonic synthesizer would be the perfect candidate for Cherry to translate from the actual hardware to the computer screen in their inimitable style. They did the PS-3300 justice and we are extremely proud to have been the source of the secrets to this mythical beast. We are also extremely grateful to the fine folks at Cherry Audio who have gone above and beyond in their support of EMEAPP and our mission. We look forward to future projects together.

InstruĹŤ - Befaco FX Boy - microPhaser cartridge | All-pass filter tutorial

video upload by InstruĹŤ

"Here's something a bit different!

Befaco (https://www.befaco.org/) have launched this very cool module which uses the "game boy" cartridge form factor as a means of hot swapping analogue and/or digital circuitry as effects processors.

I caught up with Manu and Diego at Superbooth23 and learned of this mad idea. I very quickly asked how I could get involved and contribute a cartridge design.

Time was a bit of a crunch.
I set the target of a month following return from Berlin as a timeframe for getting a cartridge production ready.
Challenge accepted!
I believe I had the first two (heavily circuit bent) prototype cartridges in the mail to Barcelona in just over a fortnight.
The last 5 minutes of this video shows a bit of this process designing the first prototypes.

The FX Boy ships with 7 carts in total designed by a wonderful range of creative developers.
I'm very excited to be part of this project.

This video goes through some of the capabilities of my microPhaser effect and ends with some behind the scenes recordings of the rapid development of the circuitry.

Cheers!
~Jason

Exploring the Tenderfoot Electronics Pinhl LPG!

video upload by Signal Sounds

"Pinhl is a vactrol-based 3 channel passive low-pass gate.

Each channel of Pinhl features 3 different tones selectable with the switches on the front of the panel.

With the switch in the upward position, the channel is in low pass mode with a mild cutoff. When the switch is in the down position, the tone is darker with a stronger level of filtering. In the middle position, the channel bypasses the filtering circuit and acts like a passive vactrol-based VCA

In addition to this, the bottom channel of Pinhl is voiced slightly darker in tone than the top 2 channels for even more variety.

Befaco FX BOY // Gameboy based Eurorack FX with CV controlled EQ, Drives, Modulation, Delay & more!

video upload by DivKid

"Eurorack FX in Gameboy style cartridges that are hot swappable into a module with CV controlled parameters and a four band fully CV controlled EQ … YES PLEASE, WHAT A CONCEPT!

Beyond the obvious nostalgia hit of the Gameboy cartridges I’ve long been a fan of swappable FX platforms that allow a module to be used in a wider range of patches. FX BOY comes with 7 ‘founders pack’ cartridges with the Making Sound Machines Analog Wavefolder, FEEDBACK modules Flanger, XOR Electronics Delay & Granular FX, Instruo microPhaser, Befaco TRASH distortion, TouellSkouarn Noise & Feedback Fuzz and Tesseract Modular AVMA downsampled & ring modulator. It’s a wide range of FX all with two CV controlled parameters, plus CV over dry wet for parallel blends and modulation.

In this video I chose to give each cartridge it’s own patch, letting them shine on different patches with different use cases, as that’s how I’ll end up using the module going forward. However each cartridge easily warrants it’s own demo video going through a range of patches as these circuits have proven to be great on a range of sources. So I’m already thinking about future videos … leave a comment about what you’d like to see more of.

FX BOY is an open source platform for people to develop their own cartridge circuit FX, so who knows where this will go, whether Befaco release more cards, companies sell them on their own or whether it spawns some interest DIY ideas along the way."

"This is the rare Prophet-3000 Rev B 4MB model. The standard 3000 had 2MB, and few had 4MB out of the factory (although some could be expanded to 4). As such, this unit is a bit of a rarity.

The floppy drive is needs a cleaning. I am considering doing it myself, but obviously that makes me a little nervous. However, if you are patient with it the current drive will do. The controller works well too.

This unit comes with about 45 disks of sounds, many custom from the original owner. It sounds excellent, as only 3 samplers were ever made with both analog filters and 16-bit sample rates. Truly its a champion of its category."

The oscillators hold tune perfectly and all knobs switchers and sliders are scratch free, smooth like butter. This synth is amazing and sounds great in 2 Voice mode."

UNLOCKING THE SECRETS OF THE FARFISA SOUNDMAKER

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"There seems to be some mystery surrounding the Farfisa Soundmaker - how does it sound, is it actually cool, and what does Poly & Strings in Mono actually do?

In this video I go through the presets of all three sections and then move on to the marvellous Poly & Strings in Mono - unlocking your Poly & Strings in Mono is crucial to really getting the best out of your Soundmaker though.

I added some text to further explain its unique architecture - but here's a short info sheet:

Then Soundmaker has three independent sections - each with its own with volume and cut-off filter.

1. Polyphonic section with 3 Piano presets, 1 brass preset with its own fixed vibrato setting.

2. The additional Polyphonic section is the strings section : 2 footages of strings with attack, decay controls on top of volume and cut-off sliders. The strings sound surprisingly good - top tier 1970s string machine.

3. Monophonic preset section with additional Free mode which let you modulate the preset sounds with filter and ADSR and lastly - the Oscillator bank (LFO) with LFO controls, wave forms and vibrato controls.

Engaging the Poly & Strings in Mono internally routes both Polyphonic sections into the filter and oscillator bank of the monophonic section - letting you modulate them freely and really unlocking the uniqueness of this instrument.

The best way to experience the Poly & Strings in Mono is to create a dedicated Monophonic audio output - which the Soundmaker unfortunately doesn't have.

We carved out a Mono only output by cutting the Polyphonic signal to the Phones output in the back.
This is quite easy, you flip open the machine and simply cut the wire from the Poly section inside (it's easily reversible) - please have an experience technician do this for you if you're hesitant.

The second trick to enhance the performance of Poly & Strings in Mono is easier : turn off the mono section preset with its dedicated on/off button (it will still pass audio but no preset will be engaged). Since the mono preset sound is much louder in volume than the signal arriving via Poly & Strings in Mono, turning it off will make you hear the effect better."

Moog Minimoog somber demo

video upload by MIDERA

"Tonight - I read a poem I had written years ago about my cat Pivot. I made it in the style of Dr. Seuss, about how she poops on the floor. We laughed a lot as I read it. But then I hit the last line and realized how it ended, and I just broke down crying. My wife and my kids consoled me, it was nice. I knew it would be hard to lose this cat. And now I have this burning desire to get another tuxedo cat (I got Pivot a week after my last Tuxedo cat, Winchester, was put down). I feel like it would be a fitting tribute to her... but then again, it would be another cat to take care of (we still have 2 cats, and 2 dogs).

Anyway, I know I'm not sharing the poem here... but it's odd how something can hit you so differently at two different times. The story was supposed to just be funny.
