Elektron Octatrack | BREAK the 16s recording LIMIT!

video upload by Mamotreco

"Do you have an OCTATRACK?

Have you been frustrated by the default 16 second record limit? What if I told you, you can bypass it with a couple of button presses?

Let me show you how you can get much more time!
First Press FUNCTION + MIXER to access the OCTATRACK Settings
Press the Down Arrow until you get to CONTROL

Right Arrow and then Down Arrow until you get to MEMORY
Hit the YES button to see the MEMORY Options
Down Arrow to select DYNAMIC RECORDERS

Press YES to change the settings value to YES
Then Press NO to validate (I know it’s strange)
You will get warning about playback stopping and any unsaved recordings in the buffers being lost

Press YES to validate
Press NO to exit the OCTATRACK settings
And when you check it out now by pressing FUNCTION + RECORD 1

The recorder screen now says 396 seconds which is about 6 and a half minutes in 16-Bit mode, if your recorders are set to 24-Bit you will have less time but still way more than the 16 seconds we started with.

Paia 2720 + 4700 (1970's DIY modular synthesizers)

video upload by Tinfoil Cat

"I've been telling myself for too long that I should post more Paia videos. This is an old video shot before I fixed the keyboard on the 2720 (broken sample and hold as you might hear). The main part is 4700, the 2720 helps out with a fourth VCO. The spring reverb is a little noisy.

These were available as kits from Paia starting in the 1970's. The 2720 is closely related to the 2700 that arrived on the market over 50 years ago!"

Interesting side note via sdiy.info:

"Frac rack, FracRak or Frac, from Fractional Rack, is the modular synthesizer format designed by John Simonton of PAiA. It has a mainly USA following largely through the popularity of Blacet modules.

Like the Eurorack format, Frac is considered a 3U format..."

Interstate 710 (Long Beach to Pasadena) - original synth soundtrack

video upload by CatSynth TV

"We take a trip along Interstate 710, also known as the "Long Beach Freeway", one of the major freeways in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area. We start on California Highway 91 in the town of Bellflower and then switch on to I-710 northbound at the northern edge of Long Beach. The freeway winds its way through several towns and neighborhoods along the Los Angeles River before turning northward towards Pasadena. Along the way, we cross several other major freeways, Interstate 105, Interstate 5, California 60, and Interstate 10.

I-710 currently ends somewhat abruptly at an intersection with Valley Boulevard in the town of Alhambra. Originally intended to continue northward to Pasadena, the extension has been blocked by community opposition, and it this point will likely never be completed.

Original music by Amanda Chaudhary features the following instruments:
EastWest Fantasy Percussion, Fantasy Brass, and Stormdrum 3
Arturia CZ V, Pigments, Vocoder V, and FX Collection

"Hello!

This tune happened after the jetlag from the flight from Latvia to Malaysia vaned out, hence the title ...

I enjoyed composing it very much, first melodic parts, then supporting parts and transitions.

I spent much time tuning my synths for proper sounds, actually proud of the leading sound. Love the hands-on sound design on JX-08 and it's FX.

Barker meets Gliss

video upload by Bela Platform

"This video is the first in a new series in which we get Gliss in the hands of artists we deeply respect. It is our great pleasure to open this series with Barker, a Berlin-based electronic musician and DJ working on the outer limits of dance music.

Since 2018’s Debiasing, Sam Barker’s influence has helped steer the direction of contemporary electronic music. Despite his being musically active for many years previous, notably in the duo Barker & Baumecker, his recent solo work has managed to shape a zeitgeist offsetting bittersweet longing with hyper-articulated, post-human body movements.

His releases for Ostgut Ton (particularly 2019‘s Utility), and most recently, Smalltown Supersound manage to straddle a line between the high-tensile, pump-action flex afforded by modern rhythmic and timbral programming techniques, with a nigh-on pop-level keenness for lilting, heart-string-tugging chord progressions. It’s this balance, combined with a microbial focus on all things-music composition (from developing solenoid-powered percussion devices to self-playing pianos) that’s made Barker an artist to love for new initiates and production nerds alike.

With Bela’s Gliss, Barker has found a powerful new tool for shaping melodies, chord progressions and timbres in his modular system. In this video he uses a pair of Gliss modules to record gestures that alter the melodic contours of the patch, and offset the root note of the chord, creating one of his signature, soaring progressions with tactile touch control.

Gliss is capable of much more than recording gestures and real-time parameter control. To learn more about its extensive and intuitive capabilities, visit bela.io.

IDUM RETURNS!

video upload by Mystic Circuits

"At long last IDUM is back! IDUM is our multi-effect processor for gates, allowing anything from a little variation to absolute insanity. Here is a little jam showing off using IDUM's new features - split mode and the improved looper.

We have a two IDUM system here with one controlling the VPME quad drum and a second controlling a set of SSF percussion modules as well as a voice made with the Schlappi Engineering Three Body and Boundary. We are also controlling our Tree/ Leaves combo module which is doing the main sequencing duties. The entire patch is mixed using our 3DVCA modules and our upcoming Ana v2 modules are acting as a macro controller, allowing us to change the whole patch with just four knobs. The main sequencer is the amazing Westlicht Performer.

In this jam I am focusing on showing how much variation you can get out of IDUM without changing the source sequence at all. This means that the same trigger sequence is driving IDUM the entire time and the note sequencer is not changed at all either, all of the variation you hear is either from manipulating IDUM or from changing some of the timbre settings of the drums.

If you would like to learn more about IDUM go to our website here:

https://www.mysticcircuits.com/produc..."

"‍IDUM is a gate processing effect that turns its input effortlessly into IDM. Making complex electronic music with the modular usually requires meticulous sequencing done in advance or a large ecosystem of modules. Unfortunately, the level of expertise needed to accomplish this is not accessible to the average modular user. IDUM aims to make this process easier and put Intelligent Dance Music, also known as IDM, into the hands of people with average intelligence. IDUM does not require much knowledge to get immediate and compelling results; but with some extra familiarity, this module can enable innovative music making techniques. Instead of generating musical patterns on its own, IDUM acts like an effects processor for the sequences that run through it. For example, a filter or a delay allows the user to alter their sound by twisting the knobs or modulating the parameters. Similarly, IDUM manipulates the actual gates and sequences of connected modules, but with a level of playability normally inaccessible to a sequencer. IDUM can vary carefully crafted sequences or turn your music into an onslaught of controlled chaos. Its open source code and hardware based on the beginner friendly Arduino Nano Every encourage users to tweak their modules to taste or to add new features all while ensuring future improvements as IDUM makes its way into the wild."

Laniakea - Solo Dronebox

video upload by Uncertain Music Corps

"Really just scraping the surface of some of the things this intriguing oscillator can deliver by way of an initial demo. There will be others later I imagine.

To be clear, this is just the module on its own, recorded direct to camera. The FX aid is just being used as a convenient master level control. No external effect is in use.

Essentially this is a wavetable oscillator combined with a modal resonator and a decent reverb. But that doesn't really do justice to the world of sounds you can get out of it. This isn't a first run out. I've had it for about a week now and it's taken time to get to grips with its interface and some of its more obvious quirks.

The big knob is a kind of macro controller. You can set which parameters it will control and their depth/range. It's doing fairly subtle things here, modulating 3 different parameters simultaneously. I'm also using the dedicated pots at the same time.

The wavetable in use is not the factory standard one. Wavetables are in the familiar, open source format supported by WaveEdit app. They are easily swapped using an online app at the makers website via a USB C connector on the back of the circuit board. Keen eyes will notice I've got a cable installed as standard which saves time taking the module out of the rack just to update it and also reduces stress on the USB connector.

It's not an oscillator for everyone. But I think its a keeper for me."

ARP Odyssey – What a monster!

video upload by Marius Leicht

"I recently got my beloved ARP Odyssey back from restoration after more than two years! But it was so worth the wait.

The Oddy (pun intended) can be a bit intimidating at first glance: No pitch and modwheels, sliders instead of knobs, a bit of a quirky layout... combined with its surprisingly complex modulation capabilities, this puts the ambitious synthesist on the quest for the "taming of the unruly".

After spending some quality time with this now fully restored beauty, I get in touch with her soul deeper and deeper and I just performed a little improvised sound meditation, pushing the amazing 4023 filter of this rare whiteface mk I to places where no Behringer clone will ever go... ;-)

It touches my heart how she sings and dances with the Juno! Let me know what these sounds evoke in you!"

Erica Synths - Hexinverter Mutant Machine

video upload by Erica Synths

You might recall Erica Synths was set to resume production of Hexinverter modules.

"The Mutant Machine began as a quest to create a rich-sounding eurorack snare drum synthesis module to complement the existing Mutant Drums. The project quickly became too large and costly to justify the module being capable only of snare drum sounds. So, the decision was made to learn from the architecture of the TR-909’s snare and kick circuits, to develop a module capable of generating multiple forms of analog percussion, and various other effects. Even though it can create alien sounds, it still can deliver those classic 909 house snares and kicks if you want them. There are no microcontrollers in the Machine. The signals and waveforms are all generated by discrete components and ICs, for a distinctly analog sound, and user experience. Now redesigned by Erica Synths in collaboration with Hexinverter Electronique.

Timeline:

01:57 - Manually triggering and designing a sound
02:59 - Jam 2 / Sequenced and modulated with Black Sequencer
04:33 - Jam 3 / Triggered with Drum Sequencer (with accents)
