DSI Prophet 08 (the better one) night time melodies

video upload by MIDERA

"I had no interest in recording anything tonight, but I feel like any time I sit down with the DSI Prophet 08, I enjoy it, so I recorded this. Sorry about the crackling. I don't know what it is about the P08, but it seems to distort more easily than other synths. Maybe I just have the levels all wrong.

I had been comparing the P08 to the P10, side by side, and I still have to say to myself 'WTF - I like the P08 more.' In almost every sound I create, the P08 feels more melodic. I don't get it. There's something almost 'boring' in the P10. Or maybe it can just go too wild at the 'same settings'? I don't know what it is, I am sure the P08 is more tame so in a way it more easily makes things sound pleasant. I can usually get them super close (which speaks highly to the P08 I think).

Also - I call it the 'better one' because I absolutely hated the REV2, after owning it once and borrowing it from a friend to compare to the P08. I concluded that the P08 was better then. And it's still one of the best synths I have. I like it more than the P10, PE, P12 (easily), Jupiter 6... Not sure about the Chroma Polaris, which itself is wild, but in a more "Bladerunner" sort of way.

On a personal note - I'm one week into being bald. It's weird. Most people don't say a word and I wonder 'Does that mean they think it looks terrible or does nobody care?' One person did stop me to say they thought I looked good, but I felt like maybe they said that just to be kind, knowing I must feel pretty bad otherwise. Truthfully, it's hard to get used to. I think 'great, I'm just another bald dude...' and think a bit less of myself, but part of me loves the idea of not having to think about my hair after I have a hat on or bike somewhere.

And finally, today I got my final gift from my mom. It was new indoor slippers. She bought me a pair about 10 years ago and I wore them beyond the point that they had holes in the soles. I asked her for a new pair for christmas, but she didn't make it to then, and so I bought myself a pair. I'm wearing them now. It will be sad to throw the old pair out, but I should lay them to rest. They've served me well.

Blokas Midihub 1.15 Update: Practical MIDI Workflow Enhancements

Press release follows:

Lithuanian music technology company Blokas has recently released a significant update for their standalone MIDI router and processor, the Midihub.

At the heart of Midihub lies the concept of "pipes", sort of MIDI effects. These pipes can be seamlessly utilized using Midihub’s dedicated software editor, which boasts a versatile drag-and-drop interface for input/output configurations.

Version 1.15 introduces a suite of pipe enhancements and new features aimed at refining the MIDI processing experience. This update focuses on practical improvements that expand the device's utility and ease of use for producers and live performers, with each new feature aimed at solving common MIDI challenges.

Key Features of the Midihub 1.15 Update

Enhanced MIDI Mapping Capabilities

In this update, users gain the capability to control pipe parameters using MIDI messages generated within the Midihub itself, eliminating the necessity for physical loopbacks. This opens up a realm of intriguing possibilities for internal modifiers and self-modulation techniques. Moreover, the update allows for more detailed and precise manual MIDI mapping, enhancing control and customization.

Revamped Clock Pipe

The clock pipe, essential for tempo management, has been improved to offer more flexibility in its placement within the signal chain. New features like mappable tap-tempo and tempo nudge buttons have been added to simplify syncing with external equipment.

Precision Modulation with 14-bit LFO

A 14-bit LFO mode has been introduced, allowing for finer MIDI modulation depth and control. The addition of a Sample & Hold waveform for LFOs enables more complex and textured sound design possibilities.

New Dispatcher and Arpeggiator Algorithms

The update brings 7 fresh algorithms to the Dispatcher and Arpeggiator pipes, including "Entirely Up Then Down" and "Entirely Down Then Up" patterns. These additions provide users with more creative options for note sequencing and pattern generation.

By valuing community feedback and prioritizing the practical aspects of music creation, with the 1.15 update, Blokas ensures the Midihub remains an integral part of the creative process, simplifying MIDI workflows and sparking new creative possibilities.

Details via Reverb

"This week, we stumbled upon an extraordinary discovery—a Linn LM-1 drum machine. This rare gem stands apart from its more prevalent counterpart, the LM-2, as only a limited production run of approximately 500 LM-1 units was ever crafted. This unit, with serial number 382, is in impeccable condition considering its age.

Renowned bands and artists such as The Human League, Michael Jackson, and Prince have employed the distinctive sound of the LM-1 on chart-topping hits. Notably, Prince's LM-1 remains on display at Paisley Park. Even four decades since its initial release, the LM-1 (or at least its samples) continues to be a highly coveted tool in the realm of electronic music production.

Upon its debut in 1980, it was the first drum machine to incorporate real drum samples that were recorded and stored on an EPROM chip. These samples were recorded by Roger Linn himself who meticulously captured and stored the sounds of a real drummer playing a kick, snare, toms, and more. The samples were then played back using variable sample rates through its filters and amps, creating a distinctive sound character that's hard to duplicate with modern samplers.

Discovering an original Linn LM-1 drum machine in excellent condition is exceptionally rare, making this week's find the ultimate addition to any music maker, gearhead, or collector's repertoire."

Doctor Mix & Anthony Check Out the PWM Mantis Synth | NAMM 2024

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"Join me and my good buddy Doctor Mix as we explore one of the most talked about synthesizers at NAMM 2024. It won't be difficult to discover how much fun we're having checking it out for the first time. I can see that there is still a lot to unpack about this synth and I'm looking forward to doing just that. Please stay on the lookout and tune in to AMM for a much more in-depth look at this super fun and great sounding instrument. It's part of a special family of synthesizers that were all designed with much love. PWM Mantis is a collaboration between the late Chris Huggett (EDP Gnat, EDP Wasp, OSCar) and PWM (Paul Whittington). A hybrid-analog synthesizer, Mantis utilizes mathematically-generated oscillators with a pure analog signal path and a modernized design architecture based on the EDP Wasp with an OSCar-style filter. It is also duophonic, with two fully independent voices, and features dual multi-mode filters that can be combined in series or parallel. Fully featured, Mantis is equipped with an arpeggiator, 37-note full-size semi-weighted keyboard with aftertouch, multi-function joystick, and MIDI/USB control for easy integration with any studio or live environment.

Behringer Wasp Vintage Patches: Bass, Lead, Pluck Sound Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Behringer Wasp Deluxe «Analog Classics» is a collection of 50 presets: 16 Leads, 16 Basses, 18 Plucks.
It includes famous sounds that are found in many electronic tracks, from vintage to modern, musical solo timbres; retro basses that will fit into any track or performance. The patches will add uniqueness to your music, featuring the characteristic sound introduced by the Behringer Wasp Deluxe.

Plucks are excellent for use with arpeggiators or sequencers. In most examples of this category, I utilize an arpeggiator. Wasp Deluxe doesn’t have a built in arp/seq, but you may integrate your preferred arpeggiators or sequencers from your DAW or MIDI controller.

📚 Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/wasp...

The presets are suitable for a variety of genres, including: ambient, electronica, IDM, deep, techno, house, progressive, trance, lounge, downtempo, funk, jazz, pop, chill out, new age, cinematic, breaks, jungle, drum and bass, dub and others.

The soundset is presented in the form of PDF-Document. Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to develop the timbre during a performance.

There are audio examples of all patches inside the folder with the soundset."

DIY Quad Mega Percussive Synthesizer

video upload by Àlex

"4 MPS (Mega Percussive Synthesizer, by Thomas Henry):

- 4 equal percussion voices. Each one is 1 MPS.

- Individual trigger and CV (for shell pitch) inputs.

- Independent outputs for each channel.

- Output on the rear panel with the mix of the 4 channels.

It's a DIY project from a few years ago, maybe 10. I haven't used it almost at all. Although the condition of the panel is not the best (it has some scratches, the silkscreen is lost at some point, etc.), in terms of sound and control it is perfect. Unique sound, you won't find anything like it on the market (unless you buy 4 MPS and put them in a Eurorack case.)"

Corsynth - Dual LFO - Patch Examples #mumodular #muformat #5U #synthesizer #modularsynth #synth

video upload by Corsynth Modular Synths

"Dual LFO - Patch Examples. This video is a compilation of patch examples that I've been uploading to the Shorts section.

If you want this module to become a reality... pre-order it now :)
Pre-order is open until the 12th of February"

via Corsynth

"It's a dual LFO with some interesting features. Modulation sources are always a must have in every system and this module can be a good addition to save some space.

Those are the main characteristics :
Two LFOs in one space.
LFO1 range : 20 seconds per cycle to 20Hz (can be extended using CV).
LFO2 range : 40 seconds per cycle to 10Hz
Each LFO has an independent Sync input that will reset the LFO.
LFO1 is voltage controlled. It has a FM input with attenuator.
LFO2 triangle wave is normalized to the LFO1's FM input. This connection allows to create complex modulations without any patching. The normalization will be broken if a patch cable is inserted into the FM input.
LFO1 has two waveforms available simultaneously Triangle and Saw
LFO2 has three waveforms available simultaneously , Triangle, Sine and Square.

The module is designed and fully working but since we don't know if there will be enought interest, we have opened a pre-ordering period to gauge the interest. During this period you can pre-order the module paying a 50€ deposit and with this you will get a 10% discount from the final price (220€ +VAT (VAT only for EU residents )). This deposit is fully refundable in case there are not enough preorders and the module is not released.

Read carefully the following pre-ordering conditions."

SEGA SPACE HARRIERより”MAIN THEME" MEGA SYNTHESIS Ver.

video upload by NOZ MUSIC

MEGA SYNTHESIS本体だけで、ここまで再現出来るなんて、本当に素晴らしくて楽しい商品ですね♪"

Googlish:

"Step sequence performance of the MAIN THEME from SEGA's experience game "SPACE HARRIER" using SONICWARE LIVEN MEGA SYNTHESIS. MEGA SYNTHESIS is a retro game music composer that directly reproduces the built-in sound source of SEGA's home game console "MEGA DRIVE."

・YM2612 FM synth x 3 tracks (6 voices)
・SN76489 PSG synth x 2 tracks (4 voices)
・8-bit PCM sampler x 1 track (3 voices)

I created 25 patterns by inputting 4 measures at a time using a step sequencer, and played them all the way to the end while changing the patterns manually. It is by design that the sound cuts out when switching patterns.
All the tones for the FM sound source parts were created using the MEGA SYNTHESIS itself, and the PCM drums were sampled from the YAMAHA RX21 using the MEGA SYNTHESIS itself.
It's a really wonderful and fun product to be able to reproduce so much with just the MEGA SYNTHESIS itself♪"
