Tomorrow comes too soon | IDM music

video upload by MIDERA

"I've been really pining after my old Nord Drum 2. I can't believe how much the prices have gone up over the last few years. I bought mine for $650 and it had all this extra stuff. Sold it for the same in 2019... now, they go for over $1000. I really just want to get it back, sigh. I don't know whether I will or not because that's just a lot of money. Been trying to see if my Tempest or Machinedrum can pull off the same sounds, but there was something weirdly organic in that Nord Drum 2 that I can't quite seem to get out of these. The Monomachine was actually much closer, but it can't exactly pull off that sound either.

I dunno. I know I don't need this stuff, and my studio already feels overwhelmed with gear. Well... who knows. It's a simple problem, which I'm glad of, after everything last year. I'll take it as a good problem to have and be thankful about it.

Gear used:
Radikal Technologies Spectralis 2
Sequential Prophet 10
Dave Smith Instruments Tempest
Eventide Blackhole VST for reverb"

Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 - having a play

video upload by Oli Freke

Oli Freke is the man behind the "Synthesizer Evolution", "Vintage Synths", and "Drum Machines and Samplers" books previously featured here.

"In which I have a first play with a Prophet 5 rev 3 (a friend's, not mine!). As you can tell I have a predilection for hard sync / FM type sounds, which may not be the usual lush analogue chords you might initially be expecting!

It was actually quite a lot more digital sounding in that way - cross-modulation and FM giving rise to those harsher/brighter sounds I guess.

I'll have to do another one that's a bit more 'Stranger Things'! :-)"

Two Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiters w/ MPG-80 Programmer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this listing

"This is an analogue dream machine: TWO Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter rackmounts (each basically a rackmounted, 8-voice Jupiter) plus the MPG-80 programmer to control them via knobs and sliders. One MKS-80 is already a dream synth; two together becomes really quite stunning.

For example: split or layer sounds on your keyboard while retaining full 8-voice polyphony. Combine completely different sounds, focusing one on weight and depth and the other on air and high-end, for textures a single MKS-80 can't reproduce. Pan the two machines across the stereo field and spread their soundscapes as wide as you like – again, impossible on just one unit.

And, perhaps most powerfully, with the MPG-80 attached to the first MKS-80, and a MIDI cable running between both units, you can program both simultaneously – which lets you create the same patch on both machines, and then further tweak, edit or detune it on just one of them for an absolutely MONSTROUS depth of sound.

This set-up is insane. If you turn on Unison mode, you are stacking 32 analogue VCOs at once! (I've tried this and it sounds gorgeous...)

Programming is super easy on the MPG: you can dial up all the analogue classic sounds in no time at all. PWM pads, sync leads, pulse basses, big thick brass and string patches... it's all here, plus (with the high-pass filter) plenty of ethereal washes, bell tones and all kinds of cool stuff. Having two units working together makes for instant and very powerful detuning, lending natural chorus whenever you want it.

WHAT REV?

One unit is a Rev4 (serial #501xxx) and the other is a Rev5 (serial #563xxx). There are subtle sonic differences between the two, which makes combining them even more effective :-)

CONDITION

Both MKS-80s and the MPG are in excellent cosmetic shape from the front, but have different amounts of wear on the main chassis. The Rev4 unit is in great cosmetic shape all over, but the Rev5 has significant scratches on the top and sides (but not on its front) – this is detailed in the final six photos. The MPG is excellent all over. Do check the photos for yourself: of course, none of the body wear is visible when the unit is racked. There are some very small scuffs on the front fascias. All units work perfectly, with the MPG talking to the MKSs seamlessly and all front-panel operations working without a hitch.

The original non-backlit LCD displays (impossible to read in low light) have been replaced on both units with vintage amber OLED displays, which match the onboard LEDs and make seeing what you're doing a lot easier! The 10th photo shows the units in low light so you can see how they look..."

MAM ADX-1 // DRUM SYNTHESIZER with 5 VOICES // Internal Modulation

video upload by LESINDES

"I was asked about how fast the
internal random LFO is. Hard tell.
So I decided to make a demo on
the capacities of the internam
modulation of MAM ADX-1.

A technically 100% identical re-issue
is MODE MACHINES ADX-1.

Sorry for the dirty left thumb:
I had to fix my bike today. So bike
is fixed but grease is very persistent ;-)

MAM ADX-1 is a very handy 5 voice Analog Drum Expander with single and stereo outs. Affordable back in the day but quite rare right now with a corrisponding higher price.
It features the classic analog drum sounds like ROLAND TR-808, 909, KORG Mini Pops etc. Here it was triggered with LOGIC PRO via MIDI.

MAM or MUSIC AND MORE discontinued it. Their latest product was a 303 sound expander called MB-33 launched in 2015. There was a second edition of this dummer by MODE MACHINES in black an silver at about the same time."

► Dark & Dirty / Fragile & Broken ► 3.0 sound design on Polybrute (NEW CUSTOM PRESETS / PATCHES).

video upload by Jexus (sounds-for-synths.com)

"My thoughts & info: https://sounds-for-synths.com/arturia...

You will receive all the sounds that you hear in all my demos plus extra. This is 213 patches / presets in total. Every preset has two sounds / layers in it (morphable A & B). You will also get all the sequences that I play (they are stored as patch data). I did not use the Motion Recorder so you can use it for your own purposes. You must have firmware ver 3.0 or higher on your Polybrute to load this soundset. The fancy / artsy names of the performances that you see in my Youtube videos are often too long to fit in the synth’s display so all my presets will be named 'WCOG'.

I did not use any external FX in the demo; all the delays, reverbs, noises and other effects are part of the Polybrute engine / mod matrix. However, I used some EQ-ing on a few sounds."

Kitaro - 'Silk Road' Example Volume Pedal Camera

video upload by ltpstan

"I thought of doing a simple video demonstrating the volume pedal as an expressive tool in this Silk Road cover. I hope this sheds some light on one of the most important aspects of playing an analog synthesizer like any other acoustic instrument. To date, Kitaro has never stopped using volume pedals as part of his setup.

Beta testing a new module from LARIX-ELEKTRO

video upload by ALEQ Modular

"This is a new module from Larix-Elektro.
I'm testing the prototype.... For a Noise/Drone/Ambient/Indus like impro.

It's a dual oscillator based on sinus and wave folder.
With a strange mixer output that allows Mide-Side processing, or dual ring-mod kind of effect. ... and some more feature.

I'm using the module only: no others effects added, even during editing on the computer (no "mastering")

Erica Synths Introduces BLACK PĒRKONS HD-01 / Discontinues BLUE PĒRKONS HD-01

via Erica Synths

"Erica Synths is stoping the manufacturing of the jet fighter cockpit blue PĒRKONS HD-01 and introducing an all-new sleek black finish!

Due to a few considerations (including popular demand) we have decided on releasing a new edition of the PĒRKONS HD-01 now in an all-new sleek black finish!

We are pleased to see the enjoyment the PĒRKONS has brought to users worldwide over the past two years despite the numerous production setbacks we have encountered along the way. From studio setups to clubs it is heartwarming to see our thunderous creation inspiring electronic musicians to express themselves in new ways and most importantly – to have fun while doing so.

To celebrate its success we have decided to transform the beast by giving it a new demeanour – a timelessly black finish to match our other instruments and to visually complement the dark aesthetic that has become synonymous with Erica Synths modules and desktop instruments all over the world. The original edition in jet fighter cockpit blue will remain a unique piece of music instrument history and hopefully cherished by the owners of these now discontinued units

The PĒRKONS – the weight of a storm - now grown dark as the night."

How paraphonic patching can add depth to your sound

video upload by Monotrail Tech Talk

"Simple ideas that can add depth and interest to compact modular voices are great! And today we tackle on of those ideas: Paraphonic patching. It’s a simple idea, but it opens up a series of fun experiments and patches that can create unique sounds and textures."

The ADDAC Random Bezier Waves

video upload by Monotrail Tech Talk

"Best day ever! I have been working on a module with the amazing people over at ADDAC, and it’s finally here! The Random Bezier Waves is an easy to use dual organic random voltage generator. Both waves have manual and CV control over frequency and output level. Curve and offset control, as well as three different clipping modes allow for a lot of different waves, from calm organic flowing voltages to chaotic jumping madness. The module produces 6 wave outs, and has two different gate outputs on top, making it great for patch-driving features and generative setups."

Timetable:
00:00 – Introducing the Random Bezier Waves
02:02 – Module overview
07:11 – Basic patches
16:46 – Advanced ideas
22:14 – Generative heart

"This module started with an idea from Rijnder Kamerbeek aka Monotrail, a straightforward random generator with interpolation between random points making it something like a complex, ever evolving, LFO

The concept is simple. It contains two identical smooth random voltage generators. Each has a frequency, level, offset and curve control. The frequency control sets a steady pace with which bipolar random voltages are generated. The level control works like an attenuator/VCA on the output, reaching from max output to closed. The offset allows shifting the whole wave up and down on the voltage range. Curve determines the shape of the interpolation. The bipolar activity on the main outputs as well as gate outputs are visualised with LEDs.

Both Frequency and Level controls have a CV input with attenuator. When there is nothing patched into the CV inputs, these are internally connected to the main output of the other channel. This normalization makes it very easy to add randomization to the frequency or level for more depth, or of course, add cross-modulation for chaotic voltages.

The output VCAs are usefull to dial in subtle and time-based modulation without the need for external VCAs. For example, to modulate the amount over time with an envelope, or use the other generator with slower speeds to add random changes to the level of a random voltage.

Both generators also have two other outputs. One is an exact inversion of the main output, so it responds to the level and CV input. This is great for stereo or inversed effect patches. The other is a simple pulse output, here there are two different behaviours, channel A outputs a pulse at every random generation, channel B acts like a comparator. Whenever the main is positive this comparator output is a high gate. And whenever the main output is negative or close to 0, there is no gate output. Great for random triggers or firing other events like envelopes.

A couple other outputs are also available and are obtained by averaging both channel main outputs. The first output is the average while the second is an inverted average."

Invisible Touch album

This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks.
My intention is not to create covers that sound exactly like the original (if you want to hear identical sounds, please listen the original). It's more of an inspiration with my sounds from the old synthesizers from the past and of course the great appreciation for the original performers and producers.

"A friend lent me some little Roland synthesizers to try out with Midicake ARP. They are both packed with good sounds and very playable. For that Mid-80s vibe, they really shine.

I'm not that taken with the J-6 sequencer but, given its size, it still packs a lot in. Once you disable the in-built sequencers, however, driving them with ARP makes for a brilliantly compact tabletop setup!

And, of course, ARP opens up possibilities that just can't be achieved any other way. Who needs Astrolab!? ;)"
