The "slot machine" method of random writing with the DB-01
video upload by Richard DeHove
"Slot machines (AKA pokies and speilautomat) supposedly get a lot of their appeal through the fast cycle of anticipation and reward. And if you don't get the reward you wanted then you can instantly run the cycle again. Wins are reinforced by pretty lights and little tunes.
Well, that sounds a lot like small-chunk randomization with the DB-01: Quick randomizations of a few steps and with instant rewards. Except you won't be broke at the end.
I'm always trying to find fun ways to write patterns and this method is, imo, one of the best. Although it's specific to the DB-01 you could just as easily take a MIDI-Out feed and power other machines.
I also think it's very interesting to see the actual process people use to write patterns. If you've got a favorite method please share it in the comments.

Background Modulars No.5 - Buchla 100 and EMS VCS3
video upload by Memetune Studio
"Don’t have a Buchla 100 and EMS VCS3 to hand? No worries! Just put this video on in the background (in full-screen mode), and have the next best thing 😁
Here is 10 minutes of self-playing modular synthesiser randomness. Why not put it on loop - then you can have it bubbling away in the background while you do other things
A note on the patch: The whole thing is being run by the EMS Random Voltage Generator, but that is being modulated by a divided down set of voltages from the Buchla 8-step sequencer, so it changes the randomness very slowly, which makes it seem like its evolving as it goes along. There are ring modulated VCOs, cross mod VCOs and pitch shifted VCOs, from both systems all being mixed on the 205 matrix mixer, which also has feedback paths set up to go to the WEM valve copycat and also the Buchla dual reverbs and dual compressors. So the whole patch is intermingling and feeding back on itself via the matrix mixer. Its a highly complex patch and is pretty much impossible to describe fully because I just kept patching it until I liked the result enough to let it run and film it for 10 minutes"
Kawai SX-240 - A first pass (initialized) patch building
video upload by MIDERA
"I repaired the tact switches on the left board and replaced the battery for a friend (the same friend who gave me the Ensoniq ESQ-1). I put it back together and wanted to test it out. I started with an initialized patch. You hear a lot of fast LFO stuff, because I didn't realize that in an initialized patch the LFO speed is 99. I eventually figure it out.
As I was playing, I realized that the parameter buttons were difficult to press... sigh... I should have tested these before repairing the synth. But all I could think about during the making of this was that I knew I'd have to fix this. He didn't ask me to fix it, but... I guess I sort of feel obligated to fix things, if we don't care for things, who will?
Eventide Blackhole VST used (after a while) for reverb."
Cycle Instruments Tetrachords and Expert Sleepers FH-2 (quick and dirty)
video upload by Martin Doudoroff
"This is just a simple example of using the FH-2 as an output expander for Tetrachords. In this case, I have the FH-2 providing pitch, gate and velocity from MIDI channels 3 and 4, which I have assigned to Tetrachords tracks 2 and 4, respectively. (Audio is just from the cell phone.)"
via Cycle Instruments
"The Tetrachords is a 4 track polyphonic CV & MIDI note sequencer for Eurorack systems.
Featuring extensive connectivity, the Tetrachords can act as a bridge between a modular system and the rest of a studio.
The unique, built-for-purpose interface turns a studio into a melodic and harmonic playground. Easily explore anything from unisons and simple melodies to dense note clusters, made-up scales and polytonal mayhem."

Landscape w/ Evicshen Introduces FERROUS - Handheld Spinning Magnetic String Resonator
video upload by Perfect Circuit
Superbooth video from Perfect Circuit
via Landscape
"Spinning Magnetic String Resonator ↈ Collaboration with Evicshen
Made to resonate steel stringed instruments. Ferrous’ spinning disc contains six strong earth magnets. Adjusting the rotational speed of the disc will change which strings are most affected and their harmonic content. If the disc is spinning slowly lower strings resonate; if the disc is spinning quickly higher strings will resonate louder. The results can sound like an unknown instrument in a reverberated physical space, floating sine wave tones, or feedback. Fluctuation of rotation speed by using the thumbwheel, rev button, touch-plate or control voltage input can create a soft strumming effect across multiple strings or shifts in harmonic content. New harmonics and overtones can emerge from both lower and higher strings as the disc spins faster. The distance at which Ferrous is held from strings affects how strongly they will resonate and their harmonics. If Ferrous is placed near guitar pickups you will hear the heavy sounds of the magnets and the motor with the resulting pitch based upon the disc’s RPM."

"I’m pleased to announce the second edition of Belgian Modular Day, which will take place on the 15th of June in Ghent at the venue of Wisper on the site of Dok Noord.
During BMD I will be giving a talk titled “A wavefolder is not a wave folder”. This talk wil showcase how I use simulations in my design workflow. If there’s things you’d like me to specifically talk about regarding this topic (or another), please feel free to reply to this mail :)
I’m proud to contribute to Belgian Modular Day by sponsoring the performance of Dries Geusens at 20:40. Dries has a preference for self-built, analog modules, and live recordings. He approaches patches as “impressionistic snapshots of the temporary state of the system”.
Dries describes his latest release “Sakura Variations – 4 studies for modular synthesizer” as "4 pieces combined in 1 track serving beautiful sounddesign, fantastic harmonies, emotional-deep-calm layers, inspiring transitions, modular solos, energetic-relaxing-hypnotising rhythms and sequences with sometimes a jazzy flavor." My personal favourite track by Dries is “Variations on Sakura (live)”, a recording from his live performance during the previous edition of Belgian Modular Day.
You may also know Dries from the bands Nordmann, Knelpunt, and Elias, where he plays bass and synthesizer."

"Very clean vintage Oberheim OBXa from the early 1980s. This is an 8-voice model that is completely fully functional and loaded with the original factory presets. It was just serviced which included:
-Recapping the power supply + new bridge rectifiers.
-Replaced J wires where necessary.
-Key buss polishing.
-All new bushings + key chassi alignment.
-Calibration.
The cosmetic condition is impressive for its age. It is not dead mint, but certainly one of the cleaner ones I’ve seen over the years. These are considered to be in the circle of the best poly-synths ever made and with good reason. They sound incredible and are endlessly inspiring instruments."

Waldorf Microwave XT Non-Nextel Orange Desktop Wavetable Synth

"Whats the difference with the Nextel versions? Most Microwave XT versions have that crappy Nextel paint which decays very naughty (gets sticky, flaky, dirty and grey-ish) over time and this can't be fixed anymore. The surface on the edition listed keeps the strong orange colour, has texture and is non-sticky/grease collecting/decaying/falling apart etc. You will end up with something that will never look good anymore. Its just a matter of time.
You can recognise this rare Non-Nextel Microwave easy: it doesn't have the plastic display cover (but green painted elips around the display instead and best of all: it looks super fresh orange, doesn't feel sticky and doesn't peel off just like that. Just compare this one with the other XT's offered.
Also the (on all units) decaying original knobs are replaced for the beautiful Waldorf Q knobs, they look better and don't fall apart over time. So this XT is ready for the future."

Things to Do with the Voltage Lab 2 // Tips Tricks Ideas and Tracks
video upload by Starsky Carr
"It's definitely a lab because experimentation is key. The Voltage Lab 2 encourages you to dig a little deeper every time. Pittsburgh Modular have got this one bang on... the results are stunning.
The oscillators can sounds as grungy as you want. Those harmonics just keep on coming until you're faced with a sonic wall of jagged spikes. The temptation is to go over the top, whereas with most it's hard to get 20% there.
In this I demo some of the more hidden functions and give some ideas to get the most out of it. Like patching the ocillators into each other, or using the function generators to control the LPG essentially giving us a 'standard' VCF. Then there's some hidden stuff in the touch controller, like per step parameter locking using the blue CV channel, or per step chance by setting the chance to 100% and patching chance into the blue channel... now the blue CV is per step chance.
Cool stuff."

Modded Roland CR-78 - Individual Outputs!
video upload by foleytronics fx repair
"This is a CR-78 we modified to have individual 1/4” TS outputs for each drum sound. It wasn’t as simple as finding where the bass drum is generated and connecting it to a jack because we found the tone of the instrument would change without any buffering. Our solution was to create a buffer board that would isolate and amplify each of the sounds without sacrificing tone.
It’s really fun to use with a mixer - changing levels on the fly, reverb throws, different panning, you name it!

GTO | Serge Tutorials | Episode 03 (one of the coolest modules ever made)
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"The first two episodes where about the big Serge heritage in 4U panels, the translation to eurorack and the relationship between DUSG and Maths. Starting from episode 03, I'll downsize the cases and focus on individual modules in small setups.
The GTO is the 'V2' of the legendary SSG (Smooth/Stepped Generator). A few weeks ago, I wasn't even aware of these two. At first glance, it looks like a mix of a Cycle and a Sample/Hold. The 'challenge' with Serge is that you can't tell what a module can do when you look at it. But WOW. The GTO is a force of nature. If you have an interest in Serge, this module can keep you exploring for many, many months. If I had to confine myself to choosing one Serge module only, it would be the GTO.
I am making this series to teach myself the ins and outs of modular, sharing the journey as I progress. I invested in a big case, but only because I am planning to teach and do 'master' classes. I just can't teach modular without knowing about Serge. So this series isn't affiliated with Serge or Random*Source.
I fitted the Befaco Bananuts myself, they don't come with the modules. Also, there are no white ones, so I spray painted a few bags of silver ones. I still need to remove a bit of excess paint, but they look awesome. I guess it's something autistic, but I am proud of it.
I am not sponsored. R*S offered me to borrow modules I'd like to cover, but don't fit my budget. There's an SSG coming soon, together with the Paperface 50 4U reissue. I am not doing 4U videos, but it's cool to actually see and hear where the eurorack modules come from.
Finally, the appearance of Lego models is purely for fun and decoration. Everybody is using plants to decorate their modular videos and I wanted to do it a bit differently. They're models of carnivorous plants (Carnivor is also a Serge combo)."

It featured a 2-OP FM synthesizer, producing sounds reminiscent of the Yamaha Porta series home/toy keyboards.
Equipped with a 2-octave touch keyboard, the PCM 100 boasted a robust real-time/step sequencer with 8K RAM for recording. Its large LCD screen facilitated composing and note entry, allowing playback of any of the 100 onboard FM sounds.
Although the synthesizer itself was monophonic, it offered three additional parts for accompaniment, including bass lines, chords, and 15 rhythmic patterns. Uniquely, the PCM 100 included a built-in cassette recorder for storing and loading composed sequences.
