According to PBS, 'South Africa’s National Space Agency (Sansa) told reporters that the storm had originated from a solar flare 'that erupted from sunspot 3842 on October 3.' It said this was the strongest Earth-facing solar flare recorded by Sansa in the past seven years and that the eruption briefly affected high-frequency radio communications, 'resulting in a total radio blackout over the African region which lasted for up to 20 minutes.'.' "The Townshend Studio was unveiled on Thursday 10 October at the University’s Ealing site. The new studio arose from Pete Townshend looking for a home for his synthesisers, leaving a legacy for the next generation and a catalyst for creativity.

The collection includes some of the most influential instruments in the development of electronic music. It comprises 12 principal synthesisers including the ARP Model 2500 (1970), used on 'Quadrophenia', and the rare and sought-after Yamaha GX-1 (1975), one of only 10 made with a retail price of over 60,000 USD on release, plus many other instruments played by Townshend throughout his career.

'It’s my hope that the studio will be a creative space for learning, collaboration, experimentation and play, inspired by the musical and artistic legacy of Ealing, an area integral to the development of British music in the 1960s,' said Pete Townshend."

Cric is a fully-analogue patchable synthesiser, designed to showcase our approach and attitude towards subtractive sound synthesis. It is not a clone or derivative of a pre-existing musical instrument, nor is it simply our Eurorack modules cased up in a box. Whilst some of Cric’s functionality descends directly from our experience in designing modular synthesiser components, it has been designed as a fully fledged, standalone instrument, which can easily be introduced into an existing electronic music studio, or even form the heart of an entirely new set-up.

Rock solid voltage-controlled oscillators give the user both pitch precision and FM flexibility. A comprehensive filter section affords timbral sculpting from basic filtering to total transformation of incoming tones. Four cyclical function generators can be used as envelopes, LFOs or even audible VCOs. Pin matrix patching allows for the synthesiser to be configured as a standard triple-VCO subtractive synth, or a paraphonic synth, or a drum machine, or a noise box, and so the list goes on. Four inputs and outputs allow for audio processing, external CV control, feedback routing and more - there's even a microphone pre-amp on input 1. Steel casing, Mirrl-clad HIMACS end-cheeks and hand assembly and testing ensure a rugged and durable build quality.

The Trepanator is a 14hp analog 'Bent by Design' experimental instrument featuring a Dual VCO, Difference Rectifier, 3-band EQ, Sample/Track and Hold, and SVF(state variable filter) all built into one nonlinear module. Its origins trace back to a love for Rob Hordijk’s Benjolin and patching a similar pseudo chaotic feedback-based instrument from scratch using all Zlob modules.

Although not based on Hordijk’s circuit or signal flow, it uses a similar architecture of dual voltage controlled oscillators, an “interference pattern generator,” a state variable filter, and internalized cross-patched feedback. Instead of a Rungler and comparator the Trepanator uses a sample/track and hold with slew, a difference/rectifier circuit(based on NLC), and a self-oscillating 3-band EQ. Utilizing this excessive feedback between the VCO’s, EQ, S/H, and SVF, creates a completely new instrument for discovering abstract electronic sounds. The Trepanator is a highly interactive, unpredictable, and an immediate instrument capable of a huge range of organic and sounds from: snarling, plucking, bubbling, screaming, gurgling, hissing, grunting, pinging, and quacking, to machine like rhythmic loops, circuit bent broken modem sounds, no-input mixer screeching, intermittent short wave radio fizzling, and full on Harsh Noise Wall all within the touch of a fader or a small knob turn without any external audio or any control voltage in.

"Here is a full demo on the Roland Jupiter 6 Polyphonic synthesizer. This unit belongs to Thane Evans, and it over-went a pretty major surgery to get it back to good health. History on the Jupiter 6:
Work done on this Jupiter 6:
-Main issues found were CPU locking up/causing intermittent failures when doing normal operations (moving sliders/random glitchy lights)
-Unit wouldn't accept the Cassette factory presets wav file upload, and would cause unit to crash/freeze.
-Battery Replacement + Socket
-Replaced Corrupt RAM chip (TC5517APL)
-Replaced heavily corroded/faulty Slide Potentiometers/Pots on both Panel boards. Unit feels great now and doesn't jump around the values causing lockups on the CPU.
-Replaced electrolytic capacitors that were out of spec/leaking on both voice boards. (x71 total throughout entire synth)
-Rebuilt Power Supply, hit cold solder joints on connectors and voltage regulators, through out entire synth
-Full Calibration to factory specs, tuning and D/A calibrations
-Upgraded Firmware to latest V6 firmware (previous firmware/eprom was V2)
-Burned 2732A Eprom and installed factory presets
-Hit cold/cracked solder joints throughout all connectors for better reliability in future
-Burned in unit for 48 hours, tested all functions-sounds great now!"

"??CHECK: individual outs now?**** Destined to be an absolute classic of analogue polysynths - in fact probably there already. This was sold at VEMIA four years ago, and has now returned to the auction looking identical - very little used, probably always stored in its original very well designed carton. Back in 2020 it had the latest software - not sure if there have been any revisions since. We've only tested a tiny part of the abilities of this synth, but everything we tried was perfect (once we realised that you need both outputs connected because the eight-voice structure is always split 4 + 4.....).

This really is a gorgeous design, sounding great, and visually one of the most beautiful synths ever made. MODAL made the probably wise decision to start with no-expense-spared real analogue design before branching out into much lower-cost spinoffs - which are all successful, but in a completely lower league than this and their 002 - also long-since discontinued (and nowhere near as pretty as the 008). We'll cover the carton in card to keep it looking great (6GBP)."

"I offer from my collection a very nice example of rare Yamaha GS2. The first commercially available FM synthesizer of the brand, a bit differently built synthesis than its successors (for example, separate parameter settings for each 4 adjacent keys, so splits are possible, etc.). Very analogue, distinctive sound, a joy to play. This is also helped by the perfect wooden keyboard with relatively fast response. The instrument is fully functional with all accessories - pedals, cover/legs, original sound bank on magnetic labels (22 labels). GS2 is fitted with Synthark's sound ROM, it has 128 sounds from Yamaha Library 1 and 2, the individual banks are switched by a rotary switch instead of the Store button next to the label reader (which is internally disconnected, either the ROM or the reader can work, not at the same time) so access to the sounds is instantaneous. But can be switched back to the reader at any time. The instrument is really heavy (~80kg), it is located in Prague, but I can personally deliver upon agreement within DE, NL, BE, A, or we can work out some shipping."

FLAME "BLACK FILTERBANK"

The Flame Black Filterbank provides an analog 24db filter bank with 12 bands, which are controllable by an internal pattern sequencer. The signal path is in stereo, as is the dry-wet control. An analog stereo overdrive (with germanium diodes) has also been integrated. The overdrive can be switched on or off manually. Four inputs are available for CV control. The integrated sequencer can be operated via MIDI clock or via 16th analog clock/reset. Outside the 99 slots of the pattern memory (before the first sequence number), Black Filterbank runs in manual mode and offers several filter types (all-pass, low-pass, three band-pass types and high-pass). Updates are possible via MIDI Sysex...

FLAME "FM KOSMOS"

The module is based on a four-voice FM synthesizer with 6 operators and an integrated multi-effect processor. Each operator contains an ADSR envelope (also loopable), as well as settings for ratio and level. There are 32 algorithms available for the operators. A special feature is that you can morph between two sound variants within an algorithm. The separately adjustable effects are also morphed. To make programming easier, each operator can be called up directly and the parameters can be edited directly with the potentiometers in just one page. The module contains 128 sound memory locations, as well as a further 128 example sounds, arranged in 8 groups. Many parameters can be controlled via MIDI or via adjustable CV inputs. Updates are possible via MIDI Sysex...
