Super Gemini - Preset A2 Noodle

video upload by ollilaboratories

"Hey folks... its me again. This time noodling away with preset A2, just a tad of tinkering with the sound but really not that much so what you hear is what you get from the Super Gemini. Also a little bit of reverb on top in my DAW for that room / ambience.

Safe to say i am falling in love with this synth.. it gives me so much inspiration, and it is a pure joy to play.

Take care all, and hey.. make some music!

Peace//BURG"

Wellspring // The Sweet Spot Machine // Review and Demo

video upload by Starsky Carr

"The Wellspring from Teaching Machines has blown me away. I'm generally not a fan of spring reverbs but this one sounds great and is only a small part of the whole system. To me it feels like an analog multi-FX unit, and you can get textures I didnt think would be possible from an analog unit.

I did wonder what was going on and why it sounded so warm... and received this info from the designer:

It uses 2-pole VCFs based around two LM13700 for shaping the delay, and an analog switching system to control the type and frequency of both VCFs at the same time. There are some other filters in the path around the delay too, a gentle high pass, some shaping and a quite steep 8 pole lowpass around 8K, as that makes the delays behave better. So there is always some other filtering going on. There is also some diode based saturation and filtering, to try and soft clip more before the delay if things get really loud.

Having the VCFs in the feedback path of the delays is where a lot of the fun stuff is, as when swept with the LFO they also change the feedback character and length, so you can get these really interesting evolving sounds.

The delays are based on PT2399, though with a slightly unusual implementation, avoiding using some of the filtering on the chip. These are just dirty in general, especially at longer times.

There are some more straightforward uses of the delay. One of the reasons for having the delay is just to add some predelay to the springs, or to act like 'early reflections', or full wet with short times and a bit of delay time modulation to try to break up the fixed resonances you get with spring lines."

Nightverb automated by the Midicake Arp (no talk)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"Here's a somewhat chaotic collection of MIDI CC automation experiments using the Midicake Arp to generate the data. The Arp feeds the Nightverb synced data which affects the sounds coming in from the LXR-02. The Arp and LXR-02 are running from an external clock.

Originally I was blathering over the top about how it was all done but perhaps just seeing some of the twiddlings, especially toward the end of the video, may get the idea across just as well. I tried to give a wet and dry example of what's happening but this is all pulled from about a dozen or so meandering noodles so forgive me if they're not all perfectly structured. Headphones reveal some of the finer modulation timings. There's also a lot of unpleasant oddities but I thought them worth keeping to show the range of modulation.

The real star here is the Midicake Arp. The new v7 firmware is what opens up synced MIDI CC automation. Unless you've got a good dedicated sequencer, or take feeds from your DAW, chances are this hasn't been easily available. I remember looking into devices which would allow simple synchronized MIDI CC automation a few months ago and there weren't many choices. It's why I ended up selling my El Capistan. I bought that specifically for its "degrading loops" functionality but that only available by MIDI CC. In itself that's not too hard, but if you want it clock synced then that's another story.

Sending four channels of automation to the Nightverb, sometimes with extremely fast LFO-like modulations, did sometimes overload the Nightverb and require a power cycle. This usually happened if I flipped between intense presets while running.

If you have any high-end effect units chances are there are all sorts of interesting things available via MIDI CC. With Arp is very easy to access them in real-time sync. So congrats to Midicake for adding this excellent functionality!

ROLAND SH-4d | PLUCK SYN BEATS Pattern / AL-DEMO SONG

video upload by Andro Lectric

"Small DEMO SONG with the SH-4d Synth

The Pattern "Syn Pluck Beats" is so fantastic.
I thought I'd just make a smart Song out of it,
without editing the Pattern.

Fading via REASON-DAW

You hear the direct AUDIO from the SH-4d.
Recording via USB directly with REASON.
Final little, smart Master with Wavelab.

Conclusion:
The Synth is fun straight away.
Kind of a reduced MC-707 - it's OK.
The Sounds can be edited more quickly directly.

Great Addition for AIRA-Link Fans... anyway.
Perfect for spontaneous jamming outside the Studio.
